Wow dude, that's some strong shit! I'm not very knowledgable about powerlifting but it seems like you squat with a narrower stance and higher bar position than other powerlifters. Is there a reason for that?
Do you mind if I ask how you developed the strength to hold a hook grip? I've wanted to use a hook because the mixed grip screws up my start position, but I don't know how to train myself to have a strong hook. Did you just start doing deadlifts with a hook or did you add in any extra grip work or hook work?
@Schwarzalbenheimen I didn't need to build any additional grip strength. The hook actually makes it a little easier to hold on to weights. You just have to work it in slowly to adjust to the pain. I did heavy rack pull holds for a few workouts to speed up this process.
@Blenderate Thanks for the quick reply. The pain is quite bad, yes. I'll try to work it in; it's inspiring to see that others have had success with it. I might need additional grip work though, as I can mixed grip ~500 but have issues double overhanding ~350. Was your double overhand close to your mixed?
great stuff! what did you injure btw? is it lower-body related? i only say this because i notice your squat wasn't as strong as in previous videos. regardless, good luck training for the next RUM!
I'm not surprised that you walked out of the monolifts. I am surprised the guy kept pulling the hooks back after you'd unracked it. HAHA! Force of habit, I guess.
1600 raw and you're not fully recovered? Unreal. Hope to see you soon.
@Blenderate understood. Hook grip is indeed more badass, especially with 600+ on the bar! Nicely done! Double overhand didn't make sense to me since I think even with particularly good grip strength a DO grip is gonna limit bar speed (particularly at lockout). My name is urban and I approve this lift.
@Blenderate Hi, I wanted to ask, on the 600 deadlift you start off pretty slow, similar to me. What is this caused by? I would expect that someone who can do such heavy deep squats would be strong in the bottom of the deadlift, why are you not that fast?
I don't even know if I can call it being slow in the bottom, because once the bar moves half an inch, you get a lot faster, it's exactly the problem I have.. is it maybe a technique problem? Not having maximum leg drive right when you start?
@Blenderate And one last 2 questions - you are someone who isn't afraid to squat and train a lot. I wanted to ask, what do you think about a program where I will squat and deadlift twice a week? I really want to improve my deadlift at the moment.
@Blenderate And lastly... the difference between my 1rm and 5+rm is huge in the squat, gigantic in the deadlift -315x6, 490x1- though I did have better form in the 6reps, I still took a lot of time between reps.
Maybe my cns is efficient, and my muscles are weak, I really don't know. My goal is to improve my 1rm even more, but how can I use this information that the difference between my 1rm and 6rm is huge? Should I start doing 8rep deadlifts, because that's my weakness?
@OMFGO It would take a significant investment of my time to give you thorough answers to your many questions. And I couldn't begin to address them without first collecting a lot more information from you. If you want to pay for a consultation, send me a PM and I'd be happy to help you out.
Sick quads. That's an awesome high bar squat, well done.

@Schwarzalbenheimen I've never tested how much I can do double overhand without a hook, but I doubt it would be more than about 450.

Why double overhand on deadlifts?
urbandruid 1 year ago
@urbandruid
Just guessing but that's probably how he trains.
BulldogsRule12 1 year ago
@urbandruid It's a hook grip, not double overhand.
1) It's more badass. :)
2) Symmetric loading.
3) Eliminates the chance of biceps tears.

@tlast2O12dude Yes, but it's not nearly as bad as it was when I first started using it.

Sick lifts dude, welcome back now time to get healed up. Cya this week
gol10dr1 1 year ago
lol why did you walk it out of the mono lift?
300Spartans1 1 year ago
@300Spartans1
1) Because that's how I'm used to squatting and I didn't want to modify my setup technique at the last minute.
2) Because I have a particular idea of what a legit squat should look like, and I'm not going to change my standard just because the rules allow it.

I'm surprised they allowed you to lift in your bare feet. Oh wait! That's the IPA. The judges almost look disgusted that your squatted so deep.
Nice lifting. Congrats on your performance.
