People need to stop thinking about anorexics as being vain and blaming the media etc. Anorexics are opting entirely out of their lives. The question that needs asking, is, "Why are so many kids so, so frightened to live?"
this just breaks my heart seeing all these young ones with eating disorders. Too much emphasis on what you are suppose to look like these days..whats accepted & whats not..media/mags/ models rah rah. Its in your face 24/7...bloody hell, whats an 8yr old doing reading what percentage of sugar...calories & so forth is on the side of a box!? I realise emotional triggers come into this ...it was never heard while I was growing up....SO what are WE doing to cause this!? So disturbing...........
The worst part is, I'm like normal size for my age, maybe a bit bigger and I can't believe how stupid i am... i feel like i want this disorder to be skinnier... But then... argh! I would never want to be like that... but i want to know how it feels to be like that... But then these kid's don't want the disorder... I have thoughts that tell me i shouldn't eat but I never act on them but then i feel guilty and i hate myself and basically my minds at crossroads...
You are perfect the way you are. Dont let Ana take control of you like these sufferers have. You've got to fight those voices, ignore there taunts and think, 'Im Perfect In Every Way.' Because you are and so is everyone else with Anorexia, Bulimia, B.E.D and other Eating Disorders.
I thought the same. When I went to Rhodes and the other units id ring my parents crying and pleading with them to take me home on the promise I'll eat. Their meals looked innocent compared to the units. However it took me 5 months to gain 3 kgs. If you are given what is meant to be just nutritious you would be an inpatient much longer and also your because you are so underweight when u are admitted its important to give you body its fat cells back. Its either that or the ng.
I think they should have them puto n weight a bit slower, i mean obviously get them out of the 'extreme danger zone' at 1st bu tthen focus on 'whole' foods and fruit and veg and whole grains and protein and SOMETIMES fried foods and cakes etc. in real life people don't-or shouldnt eat fried foods every day.
@ellie1289 seriously!! i would feel a ton more comfortable if i knew that the weight gain was from nutrient-rich foods rather than crappy fatty processed junk
I prefer those boys being skinny rather than fat. They look good. Well being honest, there must be plenty of better way to lose and control weight. Not danger yourself by starving it obviously.
I don't know the answer really. I have had Anorexia and Bulimia and what it does to you mentally is just destructive. I have never had a binge disorder but someone in my family has and they only binge because it's a ritual and they're bored.
After a while Eating Disorders become hard to control so that's probably why. IDK
how come anorexics get so much compassion but when I watch overeaters videos they're called pigs. "Have a little self control", ect. Just a strange thing I've been noticing since watching these types of videos.
@daughteroftheking01 totally agree, somehow being skinny still look good with the clothes (easy to say). But being fat??? totally not. They even need more help.
So he exercices and he must eat a piece of...cake: baked butter, sugar and refined flower. Why not a couple of banana's? Or a wholegrain organic sandwich with goat cheese, olive oil and some lettuce? Or some hazelnutpaste or whatever.
No...cake, perhaps even an industrial one.
An industrial cake made with industrial eggs and butter would of course be precisely the type of thing that would completely gross an anorexic out.
@suddenlyitsobvious Well. The majority of the population eat cake. And actually, there isn't anything wrong with having cake *occasionally*. I'm sure a lot of children that go into that clinic have anorexia, bulimia AND orthorexia. They do feed these things for a reason.
Yet another term invented in an attempt to concoct another disorder into existence. Trust psychiatry to come up with many dozens of new disorders per year, it's insane DSM manual is expanding constantly.
However, they haven't managed to list 'orthorexia' as a definite disorder yet.
And you're wrong. These kids do NOT know which foods are 'healthy' and 'unhealthy'. They can't discern anything about food and ONLY know calorie counts.
Eating ONLY nutritious foods and avoiding all trash is NOT a disorder in my book, nor by any SANE standard.
Why do you use such terms? Do you really find it's helpful to categorize EVERYTHING, label it with some term and then apply a 'treatment protocol' -which of course typically consists of toxic pills?
Why can't you grasp the very simple fact that the better the quality of the foods we ingest, the healthier we are? Must these things be explained?
Most people are unhealthy and countless millions are obese.
Crops and foods are today increasingly nutrient-depleted and our bodies need more nutrients than are contained in junkfood. Sorry bur your 'reasoning' that boils down to 'everybody goes to McDonald's so McDonald's must be OK' is really VERY unintelligent.
Why is so difficult to understand that ESPECIALLY people with eating disorders need to learn to eat WELL, which means eating the foods that will actually NOURISH their bodies.
This means healthy, unprocessed, real organic foods.
But it seems this completely evident fact is too much for you to grasp...
@suddenlyitsobvious Exactly.. eating well doesn't mean you have to starve yourself... You can eat a ton of food that tastes wonderful as long as it's healthy.. Granted, I try to eat healthy, I sometimes slip into bad habits.
Well, the problem is that all those people 'helping' anorexics clearly have themselves no clue about food. I've seen several of these vids & you can immediately tell by the bodies, skin tone etc of the professionals that they have a completely soulless approach to food.
You can also see it by the foods on the table.
The constant weighing of the kids & the obsessive character of these calorie-bookkeeping programs shows how completely uninspired & unequipped the profs are...
@suddenlyitsobvious Well yes.. I think that telling the kids how many calories they are supposed to consume can tell the kids that "Calories are numbers, numbers can be counted, the more of these numbers i consume the more I weigh, so if I consume less I will weigh less, if i consume little to none, I will have the body I want" I agree with you there. I think the calories should be counted ehind closesd doors.. But I think the rational is that they want these kids to feel that pressure.
@Nick153452 Think about it logically, if they hide they don't tell the kids the weight gain then when they get back home and they see the weight gain the kids could freak and spiral back to anorexia. Therefore, if they have to deal with the weight gain as they gain the weight it will come of less as a shock and the won't be given the final - you've gained 2 stone (for example) - which could be really scary. They can deal with the gain in a secure environment.
@elynch3434 That's a good point.. But I don't think that's what we are necessarily talking about. What we meant was more or less why do they have to be so keen on the calorie count with the kids? I really don't like to pay attention to calories too much, I just try to eat healthy and then everything takes care of itself.
@Nick153452 Anorexic people know everything about calories anyway, they know how many calories they're eating so it's better to be up front about it. Anorexics don't 'just try and be healthy' their aim is not to eat. Anorexics have issues that they can't confont, so they instead control their food. If they confont their issues with food then they are more likely to confront their fears and issues. 4 out of 10 anorexics have been molested - they need to be upront with everything to survive.
@suddenlyitsobviousThe problem with many of the kids is that food is emotional for them so they're emotionally involved with it, if the emotion is removed from it then they can probably learn to eat it and maybe in time enjoy. Also, the problem with anorexics is they're manipulative and controlling, once someone else takes that control away and becomes the one in charge then the anorexic has to eat the food and feels less guilt about it. These people know what they're doing, they're saving lives
@elynch3434 'These people know what they're doing, they're saving lives
'
You mean charge 340 quid a day to basically sit on these kids and force them to ingest 'calories' without understanding what the root cause of the problem even is and without understanding anything about food?
@suddenlyitsobvious I'm not trying to pick a personal fight, remember people DIE if they don't eat. You have to feed them first, to stop them from dying, then find the root cause of the illness. And remember while they are being feed they have private therapy, group therapy AND family therapy. They also go on to learn about food. They're starving their brains as well as body so many have depression - feed them and feed their brains. Once their brains are nourished they'll start to learn&listen.
...beyond the calory count bookkeeping-dimension, which basically turns feeding and nourishment in a sterile, soulless activity.
What about raw foods, nuts and fruits, whole grains, yoghurt and soforth? Would probably gross the anorexics out far less. Basic tastes and basic, nutritious foods.
I can't imagine why they haven't thought of that. Perhaps the cost?
The kids for some reason obviously are highly morbid. Is this being investigated?
Why not fresh orange juice, yogurt and oatmeal and organic maple syrup? Honey?
They're feeding the kids artificial flavours and processed foods. Croissants will
make a nice sticky unhealthy ball of digesting food in the contracted stomacs, hardly stimulating digestion & bowel movement. The cereals soaking in a bowl of (industrial?) milk and having lost all crispness, really look awful and hardly appetizing.
So far, it seems the staff is not aware of what food even is...
...get a feel for life again & start eating naturally?
I've often noticed in these documentaries parents of anorexics tend to eat greasy stuff, fried dumplings, sausages etc., & I find it remarkable that even in this 340 pounds a day program they don't appear to privelege organic foods. Just look at that breakfast: croissants are highly processed, containing lots of butter and sugar and refined flower. And that staff member was talking about muffins...
While it certainly seems putting these kids together has a positive effect, and at least they are made to eat, I haven't seen much work is being done on the psychological/spiritual CAUSES. It appears to be all about focusing on eating, meaning the kids are STILL spending all their time thinking about food.
I find 340 pounds a day a lot of money. Couldn't these kids just as well spend a few months on some farm, in the outdoors, working with animals, fresh air, ...
Warren's cause of Anorexia was never really identified was it? I mean..It said he felt pressure to be thin due to wanting to be a cricketer but surely that wasn't enough alone to push him into Anorexia? Or was it? It just seemed that with the other boys (and most people with ED's) there seemed to be some form of bullying or other factor which contributed not just the need to be thin, where as with Warren they only ever say it happened because he wanted to be thin. He's still very thin even today
Seriously, that clinic doesn't seem very good at tackling eating disorders. They are just shoving crap down their throats, all carbohydrates. I'm betting that more than half of these kids who get out of that clinic develop Bulimia because they have been taught to eat those foods and then when they see the weight increasing more and more they will panic and purge it back up!
@violets2dream I would agree that they shouldn't have magazines, but then the clinic wants to make treatment as much like the real world as possible. And magazines are in the real world. So, that's what I think about the magazines. Yeah, they could be a trigger, it's good to get used to it while they're in treatment, ya know
poor simon! he needs to fit in with those two posers because ooh he's also a boy. just f you. i bet he hangs out only with the girls behind camera. and the makers of the documentary fail to capture the essence of the story.
so does the personnel, are they jealous that they need to humiliate them by weighing them?
These kids are way too young to be worrying about their bodies. Its so sad.Cant believe Simon got so upset that he had to eat more than 400 calories a day
I think it's a bit excessive what they make the kids eat. Instead of having them learn to eat healthy and have healthy lifestyles to help them, they're shoving buttered croissants, heaping bowls full of cereal and everything high in carbs down their throat. I don't think I've seen a single proper meal on this program!
@delightracardeanne Um, excuse me, but I think the idea is to get them eating 'fear foods' like chips and chocolate so they can experience a normal diet again without only living off salad and that shit.
And for the record, I've been down to four stone eleven at fifteen years old, and I eat croissants with butter because I still need to gain some weight. So watch your mouth ... you're sounding like an ignorant pig.
@Leatherlyy Fear foods are horrible for you! That's why you should fear them, they're what made ME heavy! Don't speak ignorant yourself, and trying to start an argument with a complete stranger sounds like you have some even deeper issues you need to absolve.
@delightracardeanne I don't understand how you could write that fear foods could make an anorexic 'heavy' when there are most likely anorexics reading this. Rhodes Farm feeds them up when they are on the brink of death and NEED lots of food, fear or otherwise. When they get to a safe weight, they'll be put on a diet to simply maintain their weight.
@Leatherlyy Though we NEED carbs in our diet, getting them through greasy, high fat foods is NOT the way to go. Carbs and good fats can be had through other foods that are actually good for you! Avocados, chicken, quinoa, rice, spelt, millet, sweet potatoes, all fruits and veggies, trail mix, real butter, whole eggs, coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, raw nuts, the health benefits are endless, and raw nuts will fill you so you feel contented. SO many other things, you can't even count.
half a sandwich? how the fuck can they compare calories to half a sandwich? a 'sandwich' is about a fucking vague as you can get! it could be anywhere from like 300-1000 calories in a sandwich depending whats on it!
I honestly feel like it's horrible for them to tell them all the calories they are eating and top of that telling them how much they are gaining...I say do blind weighing...
Actually them knowing is something they'd rather do. A lot of ana sufferers won't eat something without knowing the calories in it. And blind waiting would make them paranoid, if they put on weight faster then they feel they can cope with, clearly the staff aren't going to tell them, and that's a scary thought, so disturbing to someone with ana, they probability would refuse to fallow treatment.
@ichigomentos Well I think it is different when the patients are so young. Their anorexia is less prone to be triggered by numbers. I think it's because they don't quite understand how calories really work and such (I sure didn't)
Also they are giving them positive reinforcement which unconsciously makes the child associate gaining weight with rewards.
@Innergoth333 Ahhhh.... I didn't see all the way to the end before I commented... The calories shouldn't be mentioned to them, but I stick to my point with the weigh ins.
@ichigomentos the clinic i went to did blind weigh ins and in my opinion it's worse...'cuz when you eventually get sent home and you look at a scale you feel wayyyyyyyy worse. just my opinion
@ichigomentos Blind weighing is horrible.I am 5'6" and was 64 lbs & blind weighed. It made me feel out of control in a setting which had already taken away all of my control. I didnt know how much to eat to not lose weight or gain normally. It provoked incredible anxiety.I got the tube, but then in the end i just ate lots to get out of hospital so i could lose weight again.I should have known my weight related it to portion size & had a sensible excercise program. way to weigh should b a choice.
@mshka1967 It just depends on how everyone personally feels. I've had my eating disorders for three years now and I'm desperatelt trying to recover while desperatelt trying not to weigh myself...that's just being an asshole to yourself. You know you're eating more and are bound to gain weight...why know the numbers...to each their own.
@ichigomentos I think it's because after their recovery they might go back to the anxiety of counting calories, compulsive weighting, etc... and there they are encourage to count calories and see how to monitor their weight can be done in a healthy way. Just my point of view.
@ichigomentos Doing blind weighing etc. wouldn't be that helpful. They would probably just weigh themselves when they get home, and the 'shock' of that could easily set them back into an anorexic/bulimic eating pattern again. With the calories, the majority of the children in there could probably guess it anyways.
its like how people abuse laxatives and it only makes the slightest difference to the calories but people do it anyway since a slight calories reduction is better than nothing
@sianchild Yes, it does. "Burning" is actually a chemical reaction in which the bonds in the food are broken and react with oxygen in the air. It is the breaking of these bonds that gives the food their "energy"; your body breaks them down essentially by burning (this is cellular respiration).
@sianchild I think what she meant was, that if your bread got burnt, then you'd have to like scrape that bit off and not eat it which avoids gaining calories.. used to do tht XD
People need to stop thinking about anorexics as being vain and blaming the media etc. Anorexics are opting entirely out of their lives. The question that needs asking, is, "Why are so many kids so, so frightened to live?"

Meaning, 'the experts' know what they're doing, right? 'I trust the experts, because I can't think for myself.'
The people working in that clinic obviously understand little about food & have wrong eating habits.
More fundamentally than CALORIES, anorexics -as everybody else- require POWERFUL NUTRIENTS, that replenish the depleted body. MINERALS, LIVE FOODS.
Cake is a highly processed product.

XxMeganTurnerxX 1 year ago
@XxMeganTurnerxX i agree. arent they teaching these kids good eating habits and getting some psychological counseling?

yowatzcrackinbiatch 1 year ago
@violets2dream I would agree that they shouldn't have magazines, but then the clinic wants to make treatment as much like the real world as possible. And magazines are in the real world. So, that's what I think about the magazines. Yeah, they could be a trigger, it's good to get used to it while they're in treatment, ya know
Singing4Him4ever 1 year ago
Should they be allowed to have fashion magazines there? I am not anorexic but even I start feeling inadequate when I look at them:(

"so that people look at them and say 'aren't you slim'" hahah, yeah I say that to people all the time. "hello, aren't you slim"

poor simon! he needs to fit in with those two posers because ooh he's also a boy. just f you. i bet he hangs out only with the girls behind camera. and the makers of the documentary fail to capture the essence of the story.
so does the personnel, are they jealous that they need to humiliate them by weighing them?

I think it's a bit excessive what they make the kids eat. Instead of having them learn to eat healthy and have healthy lifestyles to help them, they're shoving buttered croissants, heaping bowls full of cereal and everything high in carbs down their throat. I don't think I've seen a single proper meal on this program!
delightracardeanne 1 year ago 12
@delightracardeanne Um, excuse me, but I think the idea is to get them eating 'fear foods' like chips and chocolate so they can experience a normal diet again without only living off salad and that shit.
And for the record, I've been down to four stone eleven at fifteen years old, and I eat croissants with butter because I still need to gain some weight. So watch your mouth ... you're sounding like an ignorant pig.
Leatherlyy 1 year ago
@Leatherlyy Fear foods are horrible for you! That's why you should fear them, they're what made ME heavy! Don't speak ignorant yourself, and trying to start an argument with a complete stranger sounds like you have some even deeper issues you need to absolve.
delightracardeanne 1 year ago
@delightracardeanne I don't understand how you could write that fear foods could make an anorexic 'heavy' when there are most likely anorexics reading this. Rhodes Farm feeds them up when they are on the brink of death and NEED lots of food, fear or otherwise. When they get to a safe weight, they'll be put on a diet to simply maintain their weight.
Leatherlyy 1 year ago

I honestly feel like it's horrible for them to tell them all the calories they are eating and top of that telling them how much they are gaining...I say do blind weighing...
ichigomentos 1 year ago 50
Actually them knowing is something they'd rather do. A lot of ana sufferers won't eat something without knowing the calories in it. And blind waiting would make them paranoid, if they put on weight faster then they feel they can cope with, clearly the staff aren't going to tell them, and that's a scary thought, so disturbing to someone with ana, they probability would refuse to fallow treatment.
BestxHitxMissed 1 year ago
@ichigomentos Well I think it is different when the patients are so young. Their anorexia is less prone to be triggered by numbers. I think it's because they don't quite understand how calories really work and such (I sure didn't)
Also they are giving them positive reinforcement which unconsciously makes the child associate gaining weight with rewards.
Innergoth333 1 year ago 3
@Innergoth333 Ahhhh.... I didn't see all the way to the end before I commented... The calories shouldn't be mentioned to them, but I stick to my point with the weigh ins.
Innergoth333 1 year ago
@ichigomentos the clinic i went to did blind weigh ins and in my opinion it's worse...'cuz when you eventually get sent home and you look at a scale you feel wayyyyyyyy worse. just my opinion

@ichigomentos I thought that was weird to. Blind weights are way better.

@ichigomentos Blind weighing is horrible.I am 5'6" and was 64 lbs & blind weighed. It made me feel out of control in a setting which had already taken away all of my control. I didnt know how much to eat to not lose weight or gain normally. It provoked incredible anxiety.I got the tube, but then in the end i just ate lots to get out of hospital so i could lose weight again.I should have known my weight related it to portion size & had a sensible excercise program. way to weigh should b a choice.
mshka1967 1 year ago
@mshka1967 It just depends on how everyone personally feels. I've had my eating disorders for three years now and I'm desperatelt trying to recover while desperatelt trying not to weigh myself...that's just being an asshole to yourself. You know you're eating more and are bound to gain weight...why know the numbers...to each their own.
ichigomentos 1 year ago
@ichigomentos I think it's because after their recovery they might go back to the anxiety of counting calories, compulsive weighting, etc... and there they are encourage to count calories and see how to monitor their weight can be done in a healthy way. Just my point of view.
SO3a 1 year ago
@ichigomentos Doing blind weighing etc. wouldn't be that helpful. They would probably just weigh themselves when they get home, and the 'shock' of that could easily set them back into an anorexic/bulimic eating pattern again. With the calories, the majority of the children in there could probably guess it anyways.

Does burning the top of things really reduce the amount of calories?
sianchild 2 years ago 6
No.
anazlyfestyle 2 years ago 18
Well, yes it does. But, only because the body can no longer use the burned portion of the food as food. So, it's kind of like fooling yourself.
CrispyGreyMatter 2 years ago
lol i was wondering that too. it sort of makes sense i guess
chocolatekiss608 2 years ago
LOL i guess it does reduce the amount of calories you EAT ... because you're not eating the burned parts...
moeshie147 2 years ago
no.
LiebenSieSich 2 years ago
kinda....
its like how people abuse laxatives and it only makes the slightest difference to the calories but people do it anyway since a slight calories reduction is better than nothing
lilbeatch 2 years ago
my guess is that he picked off the burnt bits, thus causing him to eat less of it.
coolbeens21 2 years ago 3
@sianchild No
Innergoth333 1 year ago
@sianchild Yes, it does. "Burning" is actually a chemical reaction in which the bonds in the food are broken and react with oxygen in the air. It is the breaking of these bonds that gives the food their "energy"; your body breaks them down essentially by burning (this is cellular respiration).
0987654321050 1 year ago
@sianchild well technically yes. Part of the food energy will be lost by combustion but the effect is negligible
TimpBizkit 1 year ago
@sianchild It doesn't reduce the calories, but if it's really burnt you might not have to eat it.
kizudarake 1 year ago
@sianchild I think what she meant was, that if your bread got burnt, then you'd have to like scrape that bit off and not eat it which avoids gaining calories.. used to do tht XD
