Actually, the only interest kurds have in Kerkuk is the Oil. There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that Kerkuk was ever a majority Kurdish city. Only when the war began in 03 did kurds pour into Kerkuk to populate it with majority kurd. Kerkuk kurds have always been a minority. I am not trying to offend you in anyway. I'm speaking strictly from historical point of view. There are many towns and villages in northern Iraq who are majority or fully kurd, but Kerkuk is not one of them.
