  • How excellent and instructive ... Which direction is the clave ? please ... Thanks, is it possible to dance on2 with a 3-2 feel ? (novice dancer feeling on2 while most dance on 1 around me !)!

  • @Pianotec I think you'll find they are dancing cha cha cha

  • @FilipeColez Yep, thanks, noticed, but not all times. My question is more about clave "orientation". I cannot feel a 2-3 clave on a chacha rhythm, so I fguess it is that (3-2 majority principle). I admit this is not so important, but as a pianist I feel clave sometime differently than some dancers. Also on all document I find they talk of "son" clave as of 2-3. I guess you can catch it as you want if you dance, when playing it is different...

  • bien bonitas las bailarinas de este tiempo. You don't get women this beautiful anymore without the help of surgery. And the male dancers were very small, I guess to be able to move so quickly.

  • @jitkasuarez no, with nano-technology you can have beautiful women too ! please why women should be less beautiful by now ? (too much junk food cannot be counterbalanced with lot of sports ?) may be the dancers where yet living in caverns ;)

  • I prefer NYC Mambo, but Pérez Prado was a revolutionary.

  • Comments turned off on Rico Mambo: How about some history on Mimi Marshall?

  • "EL SUAVE" CANTINFLAS

  • 100% mexicano.....

  • no mamen.....

  • The best!!!

  • Perz Prado, unique !!!

  • whats the name of that song?

  • wow, thats history there...thanks for sharing this clip and some details about these great artist!

     saludos desde florida

  • Notice the young latino men and women took care of themselves back then compared to most young latinos today that are overweight/obese and listen to disgusting/condescending rap music today that glorifies gang violence and sexual perversion?...ever since rap music came about in the late 1980's, thats the way its been today for most young latinos today; they look at rap artists as role models; gang violence, sexual perversion and stupidity.

  • How old was Raquel Maceda when she died? That's too bad, what an extraordinary dancer she was. I never seen a lady dance Mambo so creatively like her. Her partner-Rolando was equally great! They both put their Heart and Soul into that dance like it was going to be their last. They knew their stuff; and they knew how to DANCE!

  • @Ton2as . You guys can never decide if you are dancing salsa or mambo. True, your NY ¨mambo¨ may be a different style. But if Swedish people play a different style of jazz, it is still jazz, and still American. Mambo, son, cha cha cha, salsa are basically Cuban. Wikipedia, Ruben Blades, Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Johnny Pachecho have all said it.

There have been other innovations after your NY ¨mambo¨ style. You guys are stuck in the basement listening to old music in a time warp.

  • Does anyone know the name of this song? It's not just "Mambo", or is it?

  • Fresh and great!

Let's remember the lady, she rests in peace. Thank you for your contribution to love for dance, mrs. Rachel Maceda!

  • That was the most amazing...I am speechless... Suave...smooth...sophisticated...sexy...words just can't say enough!

  • bien! que rico mambo!

  • Don´t let anyone tell you Mambo is from New York. It is 100% Cuban

  • @timbero1 not true...do more research....

  • @atlasperros All the research says mambo comes from Cuba. 7 people I don't even know agreee with me. Show me your research.

  • @timbero1 50% Cuban 50% Mexican ¬¬

  • @vikmar

    lol... what?

  • @InsuperiorTorment Perez Prado and his Mexican Musicians, never had Cuban Musicians lolz!, read some history about Perez Prado

  • @vikmar

well "lolz", except when he lived in cuba before moving to mexico, in 1948, about ten years after mambo was invented. also, perez prado did NOT invent mambo, thus it cannot be a "50% mexican 50% cuban" genre.it was cachao and his brother, sometimes a case can be made for arsenio. But prado was not its inventor, therefore, he can have all the mexican musicians he wants and the genre is still cuban. Why does everyone and their mother want to take credit for cuban music?

  • @InsuperiorTorment You all wrong , Cuban music was jewish ;)

  • @Pianotec

    LOL.

  • The best video I've seen in a long time!

  • FABULOSO!!!!!!!!!!

  • Credito a Arsenio Rodriguez y Cachao.

  • now this is what you call talent [:

  • mambo yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i love mambo

  • there are so many versions of Damazos' arrival to north america, that now I'm kind of scared to try and share musical history.

Correct me if I'm wrong, the Mambo blew up more in Mexico than in Cuba, especially in the Distrito Federal.

  • Does anyone know the names of the two dancers??????

  • I don't know the name , but the nephew of the lady dancer pm'd me to say he'd spotted the clip and that he'd told his aunty about it and she was amazed to see it on the internet and was really pleased that people were enjoying the perfomance

  • WOW... really????

    Thats awesome :)

    Thanks for posting this :)

  • This is the legendary cuban, Rolando Espinoza. Better known as the King of Mambo, name he acquired by those who admired him for his dance mambo dancing skills. According to him, this was filmed at the Mambate Club in 1945.

  • lol... I didnt even notice that he talks at the end of the video... Duh me.

    But thanks :)

  • The Nephew tells me that very sadly the lady in the film, died from a massive heart attack on February 18th , her name is Raquel Maceda. The dance team on the video clip was known as Raquel y Rolando. They invented the Mambo. Prior to that she danced with his mother and they were known as "Los Caramelios Cubanos." his mom got married to his dad and the aunt teamed up with Rolando. His mom still enjoys dancing to this day,of course right now she is devastated. Respect .

  • not the mambate, the name of the club was MONTMARTRE one of the most famous clubs in Havana of the time.

  • @BolivianSalsaholic Get the name please! The deserve real credit. And try to get his aunt a live interview, before the Americans start claiming credits for all things Cuban.

  • lol ..what rubbish , perhaps you think she should be wearing a jumper and boots as well ! maybe even a moo moo .

  • She looked great! They both danced great. Awesome video of an important time in the dance culture of Hispanics.

  • was this in the 1950's?

  • Yes indeed, when Perez Prado left Cuba due to Communisim in the 50's, he arrived in Mexico City and was welcomed by the ballroom dancing public. It lost speed in the 1960's due to the ever changing music scene.

  • This was in 1950

Comu~anga habla mierda!!!

  • viva cuba y su musica

  • Just to clarify - the dancers in this video are a famous dancing team from Cuba, Raquel Y Rolando. However, the Rolando at the end of this clip is another gentleman, not the dancer featured. That great dancer has passed on, but Raquel is still alive and well living in Florida. I know because she is my aunt and it is very cool to see a clip of her dancing at the peak of her career. Way to go Tieta!

  • Do you know if this clip is part of a documentary or a movie I can obtain. You're aunt is pretty awesome way to go! Mambo!!

  • dude get a life, estas cosas no deben de estar politicidos.

  • Just for the record, Perez Prado is the one playing the piano at the very beginning, the man at the end of the clip is a dancer from before Perez Prado made his mambo in Mexico.

  • Perez Prado is not the one dancing, but the man at the end of the clip.

Gracias.

  • Amazing! I had no idea he could dance that well!
