  • Fact: Engine of Quake 3 is the same engine as Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 =)

  • Fact : team fortress 1 was a quake mod .

  • When I was your age, we rocket jumped all the way to school uphill, both ways... IN BOILING LAVA!!

  • I hate software render

  • i just ended the game, awesome, its really good, yeah it rememberme to half life

    good times....*

  • If you get the steam version, get the ultimate quake patch. Yeah it changes win quake to dark places but you can change graphics to their original settings. But get it because it gives you the nine inch nails soundtrack Trent Reznor composed.

  • i heart nailgun

  • what's the best quake and where can I download it?

  • @xerke best quake is Quake 3. but don't go buy it, there is an online version called Quake Live, it's free and you can play it in-browser, you need a browser plugin first but it's worth it.

  • @karthauzi8726 1st statement is wrong, VALVe "made" the Half-Life 1 engine by heavily modifying the Quake engine with a few lines of code from the 2nd Quake

  • thumbs up if when he dropped into the water portal for Ep4 you were thinking - WALK BACK TO GET THE ARMOUR

  • easy? u pussy..

  • omg i remember this game it scared the shit out of me i wasnt very old cant remeber how old

  • Gamers, take your hats off, to see the Father of all FPS.

  • HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT NOSTALGIA HOLY SHIT!

  • Did anybody come to play Quake again after they saw the easter egg in Rage?

  • thanks for posting this, i remember playing all night after taking a mick jagger.. pure bliss oh to be young and care free again. bloody loved the nineties!!!

  • was this notches favorite game?

  • @TheamazingPK Go ask him. It might be.

  • Oh! He plays this game with KEYBOARD? O_o

  • 1996, such an awesome year in the videogame industry. Quake, Duke Nukem 3D, Destruction Derby 2, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Descent 2 Crash Bandicoot, etc

  • I need support. Quake wont work on windows 7. Not even with compatility set to win 95, 98, xp sp3 or snything else.

  • @dellefranz try dosbox or winquake :D i use win xp. and i played qauke 1 on win 7 with dosbox

  • @karthauzi8726 but QUAKE has a storyline to lol

  • you can tell hes using the keyboard haha i used to aim with the keyboard too

  • i used to play this game when i was 10 or 11 i dont remember :( i miss this game

  • @karthauzi8726 actually HL1 used the GoldScr Engine, it technically descended for the original quake engine

  • MAAAAN i wanna play quake! but i dont have it... and im preety sure xp cant run it

  • @viliussmproductions wrong xp can run it. look at the system requirements.

  • @viliussmproductions Your funny! Quake was out when there was windows 95! And xp only came out like at 2003. I'm pretty sure it will run fine on XP.

  • @CuteFloor Quake was the 1st FPS game that introduced 3D models? I thought that was Descent

  • Damn I used to play this game haha, Fun how fast technology went the past couple of years

  • Kind of reminds me of Red Faction and Wolfenstein

  • @AGuyInAHat Even this day Quake would make both of those games its BITCH

  • It really pisses me off the game doesn't have autosave. Had to start all over. It's a challenging game. It's really hard for me to appreciate though, as I didn't play when it first came out. It's annoying you have just move your mouse to go up and down.

  • someone please put a stop to the retarded argument of quake vs half-life... they each represent major contributions to the fps genre in their own right.

  • @nekittt10 I would too but I'm in my iPhone

  • just checking one thing i heard today :

doom was the 1st, 1st person shooting game?

  • @bielfd1 no

  • @bielfd1 Wolfenstein 3d was, doom was second but used the same engine

  • @HiImJaren

Doom and Wolfenstein 3D do not use the same engine. They are lightyears apart. The original Wolfenstein 3D didn't even support textured floors and ceilings.

  • @nekittt10 I would but I'm on a touch

  • @TheSuperMolman HL2 launched steam. Noob.

  • @100Ultimate he was talking about half-life 1 noob

  • @336Roach I know what he was talking about numbuts, and he was wrong. Derp Herp, moron. He said Half-Life launched steam, it didnt, Half-Life 2 did. Pay attention, douchebag.

  • @100Ultimate hey douchebag, i was just joking -.-

  • @TheSuperMolman LOL. Are you a troll? You came to a Quake video only to comment "OOOOHHHH, Half-Life 1 is beeeeeeettaaaarrr than Quake 1 you looosars!" LMAO

Oh, by the way, some of your statements are wrong. Point 6: Did you ever played Strife?

Just wanted to say... (I don't say Half-Life 1 is bad, it is good actually, but don't say that Quake sucks because of that. AND, don't tell me you didn't said that is sucks.)

  • @TheSuperMolman DOOM had co-op. /thread.

  • Thumbs up if you were bored and typed quake in the searchbox

  • This game's art design blows Quake II's and III's out of the water. It actually looks better. I love the first gun you see in the opening demo play. Something about it is just... so... QUAKE

  • They don't make 'em like they used to...

  • I do still enjoy this game today.

  • Quake is my all time favorite. I played it in nightmare mode.

  • This game actually used to SCARE ME! :S

  • I have this game running on my new Laptop now (with Windows 7) off the original cd! It is still awesome. I use DirectQ to run it and it makes the graphics look more modern but it still keeps that traditional gritty feel too.

It took a little bit of research but if you have the original cd still it is easy to run it (you can't install it by normal means).

  • i love quake

  • Even by this time, id still couldnt come up with the tech to let you look up or down?

  • @superrewardshacker actually this is THE game that gave us modern mouselook. the player just isn't using it in this vid.

  • @superrewardshacker he's playing with keyboard only. As @hipnotyq says, this is the game that made mouse looking a standard. Before Quake, and when it first came out, many people used to play with keyboard only.

  • Fun fact: the Quake engine was the engine VALVe used in order to create Half-Life 1. :)

  • @TheSuperMolman Actually, it was Quake 2's engine.

  • @TheSuperMolman Actually, the quake engine was what they started on, then they developed the GoldSource engine, and moved to that. :D

  • @TheSuperMolman Yes, goldsrc. but they improved it in a lot!

  • @TheSuperMolman no they didnt they used source engine

  • @TheSuperMolman thats nt 100% right since valve first heavely changed the quake eninge before using it to create hl1 but in the end its still kinda the quake engine ;)

  • what do you need to play this on windows xp?

  • Yeah you would select Easy skill, pussy.

    /sarcasm

  • i still play it

  • Direct X 0.1 :D

  • You can get an almost perfect version of this on Kongregate, albeit some risky choices (Your now required to use the mouse to scroll camera). It works, though.

  • This game was a very Metal experience!

  • hell yeah thats righttttttt

  • I've played the demo (5 or 6 levels in first world) for two years in row, sadly didn't find the complete game in Saudi markets!

  • this game used to scare the fuck out of me.

  • Doom 2, Duke Nukem 3D and Quake : the trifecta of epic awesomeness.

  • easy mode? you big pussy.

  • @Ceberus3232 Oh, god damn it. You beat me to the joke. :(

  • Wow this gives me chills watching this....... Anyone remember QSpy? That originated online gaming. So you lil squeeky voiced kids on CoD can suck it. I'm OG FPS and I was doin it before you came out the ballsack.

  • Omg I used to love this game I played it all the time when I was little I almost forgot about it I seen a small clip and new what it was I really miss playing that game now!!

  • How do you do your recordings? I use ProQuake and Tyr-Quake to run them nowadays but whenever I record with hypercam they come out really REALLY dark. Any idea how to fix that? Should I be running a GL version instead?

  • Playing this game without the music by Trent Reznor is an absolute sin.

  • This game used to scare me.

  • hey, my dad bought this game for pc back before i was born and i want to play it. i have the cd but its a dos game soo... how would i play it? i dont want to have to buy it off steam but i will if i have to

  • @MrMagichobo21

You can use the DOS-Box I think. A program designed for compatibility of DOS programs/games. Or otherwise, I was told, you can right click on the .exe file->properties->compatibility mode->windows 95.

  • where is the game, i just see a pile of pixels

  • @TheCrazyput Back then,we didn't give a shit about the "pixels",we cared about fun.

  • @TheCrazyput A Quote from my knowledge:

"The graphics aren't important, what matters is the gameplay!"

And of cource there are pixels Capitan Obvious. Every game has pixels.

  • I love the grenade gun :)

  • would play this and listen to marilyn manson when his 2nd record dropped, good times.

  • Epic game!

  • No one dares select "Hard"

  • NEEDS MOAR BROWN!! Man those zombies used to scare the shit out of me. I'd always watch my older brother play that part on the old ass mac.

  • Damn this takes be back to 95. Got to love that nightmare level.

  • one of the best game ever

  • Damn, i never saw the NIN logo on the nail boxes... Don't blame me, i was a kid when i played Quake. ^^

This is getting the game even better !

  • I remember the first time I ran into a Shambler: "OHHHHHHHHH FUCK WHAT IS THAT?!"

  • had this on the N64 good game

  • doom on radioactive nightmare steroids

  • Yes this was made by the same people who made doom. Stop leaving comments about it dammit.

  • the faces on the walls remined me of Doom 2

  • such a great game, i evan found the original game cd that i own.

  • It felt sinfull playing this game then!! whatever happened to shareware games??

  • This is just beautiful <3

  • Nice memories of Winter1997

  • Son we in softwaaaaare rendering mode. This is pre 3d hardware.

    320x240 on a pentium 90 - kicking it oldschool in 1996 :)

When the CD changed tracks the game would stutter for second.

You notice how the enemy animations don't move smoothly, they're like sprites, no skeletal animaton system - too much of a strain on the processor.

  • I can see how half life spawned from a modified version of this game engine

  • the graphics look like SHIT, get a better computer

  • @GENTRlSTAN maybe cuz EVERYTHING IS BROWN IN THE GAME YOU FUKTARD!!

  • @Kinglsy

lol i was just joking XD

  • @GENTRlSTAN Maybe that's because the game is from 1998?

  • @GENTRlSTAN That's a good one xD

  • the best thing about this game is trent reznor did the awesome amazing music that no other artist could even come close to replicating! trent reznor is the best musician since beethoven

  • ...

    .....

That sound effect... on the door... IS THE SAME FROM SUPER MARIO 64! HOLY FU-

  • @layger7 and super mario 64 was released 1 day later wtf

  • this game was the first fps that i ever played.... and today i still love him, this game, the doom series and duke nukem 3d are one of my favorite classics of all times...

  • i remember the parts where at begining you got a flying ghost thingi and another part where u go with tons of swimming zombies, i used to hide behind my friend while he was playing, this creeps me out nowdays too lol, i havent played this myself yet

  • i played this when i was 6, later then i never saw it again til this day

  • I love this game but I suck at it. I still play it on a P1 computer:)

  • dude,this game is kinda bad,the powerup ``pentagram of protection``sums everythinmg up

  • why do the animations for the enemies seem to run so smoothly here, on my copy they seem to have a lower frame rate or something. Does anyone know what the cause could be?

  • @DEFGI Some more modern sourceports for quake have model interpolation, which makes the animations appear much smoother.

  • @ShadowBreaker9001 oh i see, you got any idea where I can get some?

  • @DEFGI ezquake and darkplaces are both decent, google them and you'll find

  • @MarioLuigiSmashers ROFL a bloody axe.... cmon bro.

play The Suffering, Doom3, Silent Hill, Dead Space, or Condemed youd probably shit your pants dude. hahahaha XD

  • @MarioLuigiSmashers Your "Discusting". First of all, it's spelled, disgusting. Second, a bloody axe is cool. Youve seen nothing untill you play Left 4 Dead. Lastly, if you think its "Discusting" then why are you watching this vid? Go play your little pussy ass Super Barbey adventure game or whatever. This game isnt for little kids.

  • @Whoaman555 Not for little kids? I was seven when this came out and played it intensivelty. Such a great game...

  • I could never figure out how you were supposed to get across the lava to the hard difficulty portal without cheating. I could only do it either by using the weapons cheat (impulse_9?) to rocket jump across the gap or noclip across.

  • looks like improved doom

  • quake shoudla replaced doom3. quake games after this one r no fun. they did advance in tech but i liked the atmosphere of this one

  • @GottaTHRASHtillDeath yeah man i know what you mean about quakes atmosphere. the newer games did change it but like, its still ID software all the same.

you should get the homebrew of quake 1 and 2 for Ds or psp if its hacked :D

  • I remember being like "OMG the bodies look different from different angles!" I was so used to 2D sprites from Doom and Duke Nukem 3D....

  • Comment removed

  • too bad that you only have the shareware (demo) version.

  • I used to play this back in the day..

  • I get headaches just thinking about this game, too much spinning around.

  • they got doom and wolfenstein on xbla, now where is quake?

  • ahh the days before reloading just shoot till you run out of ammo :P

  • dammnn it's been sooo long since i've played this!

  • The player takes the role of an un-named protagonist sent into a portal in order to stop an enemy code-named "Quake". Previously, the government had been experimenting with teleportation technology, and upon development of a working prototype called a "Slipgate", this enemy has compromised the human connection with their own teleportation system, using it to insert death squads into the "human" dimension, supposedly in order to test the martial capabilities of humanity.

  • isnt this DOOM? why is it called Quake?

  • @Condom007of007Solace DOOM was made by the same makers, and is very similar. hope that answered your question. :)

  • @Condom007of007Solace this is quake, it came out after doom.

  • damn those graphics look good, you guys think it'll run on my NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT 1024MB VRAM??

  • @LevKozlodoev sarcasm much

  • I got to get this off of Steam

  • I love using GOD!

  • i can hear steam message alert sounds!

  • Nvm. He dies alot at 4:18

  • I like sim city the most this game is not so fun its depressing.

  • @thedudeyeah Thats because you are a faggot

  • soundtrack by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails.... :)

  • this game brings back a lot of memories.

it is the classic multiplayer game!

  • when i was 6 this game freaked mu the fuck out!!! llol where can you buy it now?

  • Yo this game had it going on. Used to scare the crap out of me as a kid. Has a real creep factor to it from the sound to the lighting but I think mostly it's due to the lack of music, really creates the mood that you're alone. Probably why I turn the soundtrack off in most games I play. Why ruin that beautiful ping bounce with some crappy song

    Awesome, awesome game

  • the best times with the pc :)

    i love quake

  • I love Quake! I played it like crazy when I got my hands on it! In fact, I consider this one the best of the series, as it had a creepier fantasy atmosphere throughout vis a vis the sequels, which are action sci-fi movies.

  • 3:30 that sound always remember me to march simpsons

  • man i use to play this game allll the time! i loved it

  • Between Quake and Doom, I choose Quake! :)

  • whats funny is pressing Q gave u all the weapons

  • Damn this game brings back memories.

I used to play it with my cousin when I was a kid :D

  • @PistonsNr1

    I still play it.

  • @PistonsNr1 i played this with my bro when i was a kid haha, the nail gun was my fav gun

  • they ported the shareware game to flash you should see it!

  • I have the quake CD but it wount install on NTFS:( any ideas?

  • god i miss this game...... Its amazing. Absulutly love it. Its so much fun to play with a friend. But you cant do that when the CD is missing :/

  • i didnt beat the game on the easiest mode.

    Freaking hands.

See the levels are long, and dieing and coming back without weapons is like, a giant smack to the face.

  • lol, try Blood 3D

  • Please don't hate me guys, but anyone played Hexen II? Unlike the first Hexen, it's based on the Quake engine. For some reason, Hexen II seems to match well with the Quake engine. Sorcerers and Medieval stuff just seems more appealing to me. :)

  • I like the first hexen better.

hexen 2 shouldnt have done that. took the feel away,

  • @i486x I Have! it kicksass

  • This was the first great game I played and I've remained a great fan of the series and of almost anything the great John Carmack and his guys at ID have come up with since.

  • better than quake 2

  • do you really like the screen that dark?

  • i still like ike...i mean doom

  • He recorded that with DOSBox, a DOS emulator with a built-in recording feature. The encoder is called zmbv (zipped motion block video) and it's used by DOSBox. He increased the cycles to a high value like 400000 to get a smooth frame rate.

  • He's using the arrowkeys to move around instead of a mouse, what a newb :-D

  • Man they really captured the feel of a nightmare world with this one.

The enemies are freaky as hell

  • reminds me of hexen a bit :)
