  • I'm flexible enough to do a split, but I can't lift my leg to do a spiral!! any tips??

  • @princesitadecubillas Your muscles are probably weak near the lower back and butt area. Try toning that area and see if that helps. That was my problem anyway.

  • It's still not perfect, it's a work in progress at the moment. :) but I've stretched every day for 2 years, that probably helps.

  • Your arching is good but make sure you keep your head up more.

    I have also been stretching daily for a good spiral and I can curl my leg over my head like the biellmann now.

  • Great video. I am flexible, but can't seem to get my spiral up high. My split jump is nice, but I need to get my spiral and biellman up. I think I need to stretch a lot more. Thanks for the tips.

  • I got them after about 6 months.. but I just took about 10 minutes out of my day and stretched and yeah.

  • I just stretched a lot. I have two videos of stretches.. and that's all I did. 5 minutes a day every day and a year later, wow. yep. Cuz I couldn't touch my toes even when I started, and now I can.. obviously. haha.

  • I am 27 and 5'8. I am a figure skater too. And very slim too. Don't be sick. Tall skaters look better on the ice, don't they? :)

  • ah yes, but the shorter you are the less distance you have to fall, and the less gravity you have pulling you down.

    but i agree. tall skaters kick butt.

  • also shorter limbs are easier to control.I love tall skaters like carolina kostner and viktoria volchkova. I have a short skating video maybe you'd like to check.

  • try to lean back on the foot thats on the ground while doing it... it makes you have more balance

  • I was just showing how I got my good position, and how to stretch. When I'm actually practicing them, well that's a whole different ballgame.

  • Well I don't really know what your problem is with your spiral. Are you not getting the freeleg height that you want? Do you have balance issues? It's hard to help if I can't see them.

  • I took a full one month off, no skating, and then 2 or 3 weeks after I didn't jump at all. And eventually it got better, but now I have tendonitis in both ankles.. so that's almost as obnoxious.

  • Tendonitis, I share your pain! Except mine are in my wrists so it doesnt affect my skating. By the way,im that girl of sashafans, MiishGiinahX who asked for stretching tips (titled stratching tips :S) and you brought me to this video, thanks!

    You can do a split both ways, practically! JEEZ. That's so impressive. I can do a spiral like that with my right leg, but with my LEFT... not in a million years!

  • Well, do a bunch of these where you lift your leg up as high as you can without bending your torso(I know mine bends a little but my upper body stays straight, if that makes sense.)and hold the position for as long as possible. and go do my stretches 3 times a day and you'll be there in no time.

  • It's not as high at the moment, no. It makes like.. at least a 45 degree angle with the ice usually. My problem as of right now is a combination of having to regain my strength from being sick all the time, and from my stress fracture, and boot issues. But yeah, it's definitely not in that position on the ice. But I am proud of what I have at the moment.

  • That was the goal! And remember, just because I am as flexible as I am, doesn't mean I can always hit these positions on the ice. Yes, flexibility is a HUGE part of that, but you also need a ton of leg strength to be able to lift your leg up that high, as well as stay balanced on the ice.

  • yh i no! i find it easier to balance on the ice rather that off the ice!
