  • On fox news there are loads of experts who just spread sick antisocial propaganda? Who are all these cocks?

  • Why do you watch so much fox that you know this? Antisocialism? The democrat speaking Marshall thinks we shouldn't run and gun into a half thought out plan. What person does such a thing will do nothing but fail. Stop whining about fox just don't watch it. Are you from NBC? or MSN? why sign up under a no name in the last few months to complain about a news channel? Austria?

  • I am watching american tv and I am shocked by this propaganda. Guantanamo, Patriot Act, War are problems for individual liberties, elements of a big state, but not universal health care.

Btw. since 2 weeks Austrian universities are occupied by students demanding "free education for everybody" Think about the fact your media does not really mention these struggles.

  • This is an unbelievable offense against the whole of Europe. Yes we have centralized health care. No we are not a totalitarian state. The US preferes a less efficient system only because of the interest rates of some investors.

  • traitor!

  • He clearly has NO CLUE what he's talking about.

  • with Democrats like these, who needs Republicans?

  • Glad to see that the representative is using up to date analogies.

  • It figures it's a Southern congressman ....everyone sees the pattern ..The south is Republican racists' and the Dems are trying to fight them , but not too hard , they got elections to win .. The stupidity of it is that the South has the worse healthcare in the country ...Let them opt out ...then we'll see if they get elected again.

  • I don't think they're racist, I think they're just out-of-touch and stupid

  • Let's get rid of all the public schools in America! It's Socialism!

  • re: toribaltimore

Heh, perhaps we should remove everything listed in this article

  • I for one, am tired of hearing career politicians say that government is corrupt and poorly managed. They ARE the government. If they can't make it work they should get out of the way and let those who believe in good government to take over. They'll be fine as they will all get a fat government pension when they go.

  • The Cold War is long dead, and it's a pity it didn't take many of our ancient politicians with it.

  • Touche, Sir! :)

  • Yeah I know. Marshall hasn't been the same since he found out he won't get to go down into Dr. Strangelove's mine shaft with his ten females after all.

  • We need a strong public option in the final bill and that is the bottom line. If you agree then please help keep the pressure on by signing the petitions that have already proven to be effective. You can find them in the comment section of my profile. Thanks.

  • Yes -- systems are controlled. For example, this Congressman has been bought and paid for by the Insurance Industry.

  • im sure spouting this idiocy will earn him a lot of money from lobbyists.

  • The ironic thing about all of this is that the HMO lobby is lobbying these politicians to block and obstruct any change to the current system, off of which they're making billions. But once a bill is signed all that lobby money will dry up and NOBODY in Congress will be getting any of it, including the shills who tried to obstruct reform.

So, the pro-reform people shouldn't really be affraid of losing their lobby money, because NOBODY will be getting any after this is over.

  • This guy is lobbyed to the extreme. Don't listen to him. The fact that he is somehow a Democrat and talking on FoxNews should send off alarms to everyone.

  • why....

  • If I here the word fundamental one more time I am going to kill my self.

All fundamental politicians fundamentally use the word fundamental to fundamentally lie to you...buts thats all fundamentals and you should know this.

  • greetings from Czech Republic in the former Eastern Bloc. You're all idiots if you compare a Public Option with Soviet Medicine. Idiots. That's all. Take care america.

  • In short,

Markets that base their prices of how much someone wants to continue being a self sufficient and alive human being (i.e. A lot), aren't very good at keeping their prices near to costs.

    greyfalcon. net/ healthcare2

As such, increases in prices aren't because of increasing costs. But primarily because of excess profits.

    greyfalcon. net/ overhead3

Meanwhile, every other developed country has a public program. And they pay much less, for better results.

    greyfalcon. net/ healthcare

  • right on!

Indeed, you raise many points that the lobbyists don't want you to know.

The want you to pretend that the US is the best at everything and doing anything to fix the problems is akin to Communism

  • I, too, am a fan of decentralization. but I am also a fan of health reform. The 21st century is a BAD time to be a control freak.

  • hold on this guy is a democrat ?!?!?!?!

    VOTE THIS POS OUT

  • A Georgia Democrat

  • what... oh shit, WHAT THE HELL?! One of those "blue-dog" democrats, aka republicans with a still functining brain and heart, even though it's clsoe to failing.

  • soviet union? are these people in congress all suffering from "use any scary word, or concept" tourette's syndrome, or what?

  • its not just "any scary word". The lobbyist have been saturating the media with the notion of "government-take over of healthcare" and more specifically, turning any attempt to fix how health insurance in America into an ideological battle against "big government".

Funny how they rail against "government" yet say nothing when Corporations drop coverage for sick people.

Its a concerted effort to blame government for all problems, while ignoring the real corporate takeover of America

  • I also like that EVERYTHING that has to do with coverment, conservative people stamp that as socialism, or even further as this guy "like the Soviet system".

Comparing Corporate Facism and Goverment Facism... I think the Goverment one is better. Due to the fact that companies can just "lets invest in this!" then make most profit of it, then leave it and let it rot.

  • Another irony is a party that claims to be for less government and less spending, except when it comes to increasing the size, spending, and power of the government for their own "moral" interests (I.e., anti-abortion, anti-gay rights, anti-drug rights, pro-war, etc.)

  • Now that you mention anti-gay, one of our parties in sweden, Christdemocrats wrote recently that they are for Equality, even though they are the ONLY party that are anti-gay, even though the only anti-gay point that the have held high is "NO GAY MARRIAGE IN CHURCHES!"

  • Yeah but that's like comparing crap to shit.

The problem is, conservatives are convinced it's one or the other, when it's not...

  • TRAITOR! GET HIM!

  • I think what he meant to say was "like the Canadian, French, British, Australian, and German system." The Soviet Union is a defunct country.

  • Of course he'd cite a defunct country as an example. If he'd cited the Canadian, French, British, Australian, and German systems, and anybody bothered to actually ask those people if they'd trade their healthcare system for the American one, his argument would fall apart.

It's safer to go on saying "this bill will create a health care system similar to the failed Carthaginian system, with rationing, wait lists and death pannels! If you think that's so great, ask the Carthaginians!"

  • Splendidly put!

"We don't want lead in our water like the Romans!"

  • Or...

"We don't want the southwest to be overrun with Latino raiding parties, like the illegal Saxon immigrants that took over Roman Britannia!"

Man, the possible out-of-date analogies are endless...

  • a democrat recognizes one of Americas largest problems. its bigger than left right or even countries themselves, because this is happening globally. Health care needs to be a realtionship ebtween the aptient and the doctor, and no country has figured this out yet.

  • This isn't about health care. It's about health insurance.

  • in my experience here in Canada the two are indistinguishable, but I suppose you are right. Soon enough there won't be a difference.

  • I am a Canadian as well, and I've never had a problem distinguishing. I have a very good relationship with my GP, will pop into a neighbourhood clinic when I need to, and am acutely aware that my MSP card is essentially proof of coverage by the insurance plan all Canadians pay into. It's a great system, imo.

  • lucky you. I haven't had a good GP since December 2002. In my foolishness I signed up with an aged Dr in a part time clinic. I couldn't find a Dr closer. I had a sty on my eye in 2005 and the moron gave me a steroid without proper instruction. how he told me to use it was counter to the instructions, and like I fool I followed his advice. I now have a permanent growth on my right eyelid thanks to my great doctor. I'm not saying all docs are shit, but our system is breaking down

  • I'm not against universal coverage, but I am against a system so strapped it lets doctors who should have retired 10 years ago continue to practise. I'm about quality care and I haven't received any in nearly a decade.

  • there is a thing called second opinion

  • agreed, and if it were easier I would have done it already. my problem is a busy work schedule and few location that provide service after the hours I get off work. Its funny cause in the suburbs there are plenty of clinics that run till 9. I guess I will have to venture out to scarborough or etobicoke in order to find one

  • well i donno in what world you are living but the governemnt is already not between the patient and doctor

  • tell that to the person whose parent was just taken off of chemo and given months to live. We can't have the access necessary to keep ourselves healthy or ahead of ravaging diseases like diabetes or cancer. In our universal system we do not get the preventative care necessary.

  • i don't have the fact of what happened to that chemo person... maybe the treatment wasn't working i donno..

  • that is my impression but I haven't confirmed, simply heard the bad news. If its anything more than that a ruckus will be made.

  • who is we?

  • Well that must be the Canadian system specifically you are referring to. There is lots of preventive health care available in the Dutch health care system (I work for a Dutch health insurance company so I know all about it).

  • its not that we can't get any, its that I can't get any living where I do, working the schedule I do. 1 hour drive east west or north and I could get what I want.

  • OK so then it IS available and if it's important enough, it's worth the 1 hour drive...

But then why are you saying "in our universal system we do not get the preventative care necessary"? You are not being consistent...

  • well for those that drive, and can afford to put fuel in their car, its a minor inconvenience, for those like myself who do not drive, its a problem. I could get better care, if I had the money to move elsewhere but I simply don't. so to be honest some get preventative care, those who already have a doctor, and those young like myself are screwed because the only doctors we can get to see us should have retired 10 years ago, and the care we do get is substandard.

  • I am trying to be balanced ehre, and not hate on my health care system but rather expose and examine the inequalities and insufficiencies in it. I'm calling for better health care. comprehensive health care. something not everyone in Canada gets.

  • Well I guess you know about Canadian health care than I do, but my guess is that Canada's big problem is that the population density is so low in particular areas and therefore travelling distances are so big. In The Netherlands, we try to spread out GPs as evenly as possible so that inhabitants of remote villages can at least get access to a doctor in their local area. Is the same being done in Canada?

  • we don't assign our doctors anywhere so the problem is bad in areas and not necessarily everywhere. Its gotten bad enough we have lotteries in certain cities to be able to see the dcotor because there is only one or two to a town of thousands. Some areas offer to pay for med school if you promise to stay to work as a GP for at least 10-15 years. We are working on it, but there is a lot more to do

  • You mentioned you were unsatisfied about the care you received from your GP. First of all, in The Netherlands you have the right to register with another GP. I hope the same applies in Canada. Furthermore, we have an organization where you can file a complaint about your doctor. Of course, doctors are humans too which means it is impossible to have a perfect health care system with 0 mistakes, but if there is a disproportionate amount of complaints about one doctor, measures can be taken.

  • measures aren't being taken because of our shortage. There is a system to report them to, but it takes years and serious evidence of malpractice to get a doctor barred. We can see another doctor but we have to pay to transfer our medical records from the one to another, bureaucratic bullshit basically.

  • I was shocked to read about the "lottery" in your health care system and the fact that you have to pay to transfer medical records. Neither of these things are the case over here in the Netherlands! I must say I'm a little disappointed to read about these things as I always had a high opinion of Canada. You do indeed have a lot to work on! But judging by the level of development in your country and your political culture, I'm confident these problems can be solved!

  • the lottery is only for remote communities, but our aboriginal peoples get some of the worst health care depending on whether they live on a remote reserve or one near bigger cities. the problem is with all of the health care stuff going on with the states you hear great things about us without the whole story about the inequality the people deal with. People want to paint a picture of how good it is, so they whitewash the turth out of the picture

  • the problems will get solved but only by confronting our problems instead of parading our system as the best one in the world. I know personally of third world west indian countries where the level of care is as good as ours or better. you will never see that on CNN, but that is the reality. We have challenges that our finacial situation will not allow us to address as yet. so I speak the truth and wait ... and engage people so others know

  • bought & paid for shill clown

  • nice to see someone recognize the truth about the soviet union

  • i wonder if he knows the soviet union no longer exist

  • USFgasoline, Why do you think they failed?

That said, we're far from the Soviet Union. Any comparison of America to the Soviet system is an exaggeration.

We are on the wrong track, though.

  • remember those Czars? I bet the USSR had lots of those because the are Russian! The Czars were total pinko commies (Sarcasm)...

These people have no knowledge of history, and all they do is smear

  • Trade? No thank you. I recently had a few operations to restore my sight. If I lived in the USA I would be blind because there is no way I could have afforded the operations. No system is perfect. When all is said and done I want to keep our Canadian system and persist in getting the goverment to improve it. I think our counrty is a calmer place because we know our fellow Canadians do care about us.

  • So let INS Co.s jack up prices w/o supervision or reason whatsoever?

How much did Humana or Faux News paid him to say that?

  • ...or the British system but it doesn't sound as scary when you put it that way does it?

  • wow how deep. *groan*
