  • Wow this helped alot. I was going up the stairs the wrong way! I jus hav to get used to crutches lol

  • hahah the wrong ways are just hilarious :D. And yeah, honestly the hardest part for me is climbing stairs... I guess it's all about getting used to ballancing on one foot and then on the crutches. :)) Other than that it was a really helpful video. Thanks. :))

  • Love the cast :D

  • I remember when I had crutches i would always go up the stairs the wrong way

  • Lol and ty I just got surgery on my ankle and need to know how to walk up the stairs and down Ty 😊

  • I have a twisted knee so i need to use crutches i love this video it made me laugh and helped a lot XD

  • I have different type of crutches, the ones where you rest on your hand not armpits....anyway I was climbing the wrong way, now i know the right way,TY but going down the right :)

    sorry for answering so late...

  • I have subluxation in my ankle I think. Do I need crutches?

  • oh thank you so much! i needed to learn how to use crutches on the stairs after my foot surgery, because my school doesnt have an elevator. and my school prohibited me from going to my classes if i didnt learn, thus, i wouldnt be able to go to school the day of the state science test and i would fail the 8th grade even though i have fantastic grades. If i failed it as a result of not taking the test, i'd have no other option but to repeat the 8th grade

    THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hi. I just went for Calcaneum Fracture ORIF. I need help on how to use the crutches when:

    1. getting on and off an escalator. Of course elevator is the best choice. But this question been bugging to tried it out myself.

    2. and is walking up and down a ramp or slope similar to normal walking or different? Due to many factors like uneven surface, steepness etc. I tend to be off-balance forward when walking down a slope/ramp and vice-versa.

Hope you and some kind soul would help me out. Thanks!

  • @ThisIsHafiy ok i can answer number 2 walking up a ramp or slope with crutches is NOT like normal walking so be careful i got my crutches Wednesday and i went to school the next day and went down the ramp and the arm part of the crutches jabbed into my armpits.

  • @bjwsassy True, it jabbed into the armpits real hard. Have to angled it abit to allow to walk up and down the ramp. I'm already walking ,yet still limping. Thanks anyway! :)

  • This is actually really helpful! I just started using crutches because of a messed up knee, and now I see that I'm doing it all wrong! I'll remember the tips you gave for the stairs. I hope that poor guy didn't get hurt, with his bad technique!

You get an A+ from me on your video :)

  • @celestecoleman i got a messed up knee to :l

  • @celestecoleman same for me

  • Thanks for making and posting this video, it's been really helpful , since I live on a second floor and I have a broken ankle and talus and I needed to learn how to go up & down, thank you.

  • THANKS! That was helpful, I will be in crutches for 5 weeks -__-

Does anyone know if it feels weird after getting rid of them? It's because I like to run, and I'm afraid that one leg may be weaker than the other one for not using it or something like that, if you know what I mean.

  • we have different crutches in Ireland..our crutches only go as far as youur elbows..just sayin..

  • @SashkoFromUkraine Yup, an absolute pain on the hands and forearms.

  • I broke my leg nearly a week ago. I ask my sister to take one of my crutches up, then hold the railing and get up that way. To go down I do the same.

  • ok heres my story i got half life 2 xbox original and hurdled a couch and sprained or broken we dont know yet and i have to use crutches this will help, please respond to my true but funny story ( i still had the best day evar )

  • SAME FOOT!! lol

  • hjb

  • same foot as me lol

  • i fractured my growth plate a couple weeks ago..i know how to use the cruches but this came up on the side of a video so i klicked on it ..lol

  • the wrong ones loooks easier >.>

  • lol very cute. thanks.

  • For me, most steps aren't wide enough to go up\down the way you demonstrated in the video.

The method I was taught by an occupational therapist at the hospital before I was released involves using a handrail with either one crutch or both crutches in one hand opposite the hand I am using on the handrail.

I still step the same way shown in this video, but I use a handrail for extra balance and support. In the absence of a handrail, I will crab-walk with my good leg if the steps look narrow.

  • Great Vid! Has anyone ever used Millennial Medical crutches? They have spring shocks on the bottom and I have seen them on pro athletes too.

  • @joxter13 I've been using the Millennial In-Motion Pro crutches since December and they are so much better than traditional crutches. The cable loaded crutches with the spring bottom makes a huge difference in shoulder fatigue. Plus the ergonomic wrist rests are nice. These are great. I got mine through Vitality Medical and used a coupon code.

  • I'm getting mine on Monday,

Any way to show us how to use crutches when boarding the bus?

  • Thats good... you should make a video where you are wearing a sleavless shirt on crutches.

  • Did your armpits get a bad rash?

  • @Intensity835 no...no rashes for me...

  • Did your armpits hurt when you where on crutches?

  • @Intensity835 yes...they did!! i was ready to put some pillows under my armpits!!

  • @xollister lol you should of tried the forearm crutches (over here in europe you get them they dont hurt the armpit because it hooks onto your arm)

  • i broke my toe on christmas morning and i just got crutches. i had a question for you, is there any other way to go down the stairs with crutches?? Please comment back. Thanks!!

  • @simonandpappy123 hey! i'm sorry about the break... well if you don't want to break anything else while on crutches it's best to stick to this way....

You could try getting a cardboard and slide down the stairs...lol...but that's never really safe...

Hope you get better soon and don't have to use the crutches...!!

  • @simonandpappy123 Your lucky. I broke my toe New Year's and got nothing. I had to play basketball on it. :(

  • thank you for the post. apparently well just yesterday i used the wrong way to get up the bus. the people in the hospital did not teach me how to walk with these crutches.
