  • when i played this the first time I had a hard time with the trombone part for some reason

  • @casino789 me tew but it bacame easier.

  • Wonderful piece. I'm practicing this for a festival, and so far my band sounds good! I'm not a huge fan of the song, but I like it a bit better now than I did before. It's hard, but fun to play!

  • Best song ever!!!

  • for the 3 people that dont like this you hvae fricken problems you can go die in a burning hole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • BASS CLARINETS FTWW!!!

  • im playing this in band:) its so much fun to play.... cant wait till i preform it in 6 weeks

  • i really do not like this song for some reason... to bad i have to play it in my band... hate it when i have to play suff i dont like

  • @daniangelful Playing stuff you don't like is the BEST way to advance as a musician! How'd you learn how to play something more complicated say, 16th notes? Or double tonging for brass players? Or sextuplets? If you played only songs you liked, you'd have a very limited library to choose from ;)

  • @bassrocks10101 i can play stuff like that. i just dont like the song. i CAN play everything in it. i just do not like the song. its not my "cup of tea" if you will.

  • @daniangelful "i can play stuff like that." I figured as much, hence why it was phrased as a question. And I understand not liking music. I played a piece of music where my part was holding a low Bb for 82 measures straight, all slurred together, all at piano. I hated it, yes, but it taught me how to better control my breathing even better than I could before. Playing music we do not like is a part of the experience. Its apart of learning to be a better musician. Cont'd...

  • If we only played things we liked to play, we might only play one or two pieces a concert. I didn't like learning blues and jazz for double bass, as I am a classical player. Yet it helped, as I learned how to move my fingers in newer and more creative ways, as opposed to the classical training that I am used to. All I'm saying is that you don't have to love the music you're playing, as long as you learn what it has to teach, and never ever stop playing.

  • @bassrocks10101 That is wrong. If you do not enjoy playing, no matter what is is then you either need to stop playing or take a break. No matter what you learn from a song you cannot become better unless you enjoy it. Whether or not you enjoy a specific song is a trivial matter as long as you enjoy playing it.No song is truly worth playing unless the performer can express themselves through the work, the purpose of music is not "learn" but to make music itself.

  • @daniangelful Me too!

  • WHOOOOO PERCUSSION! LOL

i get to play the rocking toms part at the end!

  • Trumpets.

  • This song confuses me. Especially around measure 74. Tubas dont have a good part in this, not good for the 7 large Tuba players in our band. lol. Mad tubas = not happy band. jk.

  • WHOA, WHOA, WHOA...hang on a minute. So many instruments, but WHAT ABOUT THE ALTO SAXS?

  • @elfie1015 The alto sax has an amazing solo in the first movement.

  • @elfie1015 they play at like measure 21 and 22 with the flutes, right?

it's written as a cue in my trumpet part. :D

  • LOL JEb stuart high is playing this song (concwert) and i love this song xD go clarinets!

  • My wind ensemble band is playing our "Welcoming Winter Concert" this Thursday. We are playing all Frank Ticheli pieces. We are playing Cajun Folk songs movement 1 and 2, Simple Gifts movement 1 and 2, and Amazing Grace. They are all really amazing pieces. Difficult, but beautiful once mastered.

    Oboes ftw!

  • Playing the toms for this, SO MANY RESTS!

  • @MrBadmusiq lolz, I know how you feel, I played toms, and tambourine for this. My band got to meet Frank Ticheli, and that last tom run, he told me (cause I kept messing it up) "think 'I want a car, but not a diga diga dut'" xD

  • we all know clarinet is the most underrated =[ we need to be recognized more often! go hear blue shades! that will make clarinets out there understand why we are the best ;Dhha

  • @bert099 BEST clarinet solos. ever. (:

  • @bert099 Not only is clarinet the most underrated, it's the most important. The clarinet is to the band what the violin is to the orchestra. Not very many soloists, but THE most important section.

I'm not a clarinetist, btw...I'm a flutist, and a band director. GO clarinets!!

  • Everyone is saying this FTW but I play percussion and clarinet. What do I say? I know. BAND FTW!!!

  • Oboes ftw! :P

  • Baritones FTW!

  • my band is a class C and we played that song at festival, the judges were astounded because we did an awesome job playing it for a C band :) btw, tenors <3

  • Playin this in band, along with Sea SOngs by Williams. 2nd CHair Euph.

  • Funny how our band keep miss count at measure 126 to the G.P. , and then when the festival come, they actually scare of that part but in a sudden, they nailed it !! It's was a complete silent on time, and we end up with a superior score on that. weee!!

  • Sorry. I am a trumpet player and if you know anything about trumpet players, we are not humble, but we played this at VA Tech's honors band and the trumpets blasting a mute out makes any piece amazing! Any trumpet player knows mutes are not to make you quiet, but to add color. Although I admit, the funny time signatures and accidentals threw me off a little

  • The Symphonic Band at my Intermediate School s playing this, it's awesome.

  • I really like how the low brass just RIPS at 1:09. TOTALLY EPIC.

  • this is our second piece for my concert band this year. and represent clarinetsss!!!!

  • Xylo FTW!

  • I'm playing this song; I just play the marimba part from 2:16-2:38, though... We have so many percussionists at my school.

  • This piece is not as hard as you make it sound. It is an amazing piece for every instrument in a high school band. Trombones!!!!!!!!!!

  • This piece is not as hard as you make it sound. It is an amazing piece for every instrument in a high school band.

    Hooray, my children!

  • I'm in middle school and we're playing this song and its sounding good

  • We're playing this song this year. What do I play in this song? The triangle. I get to stand there...for the entire time...to play 3 notes.

  • me and the county band (johnstown) played this not too long ago, and i have to say i absolutely love it. I was second Alto and we just had a blast playing this, although we only worked on it together for two days, it still turned out to be an amazing piece we played

  • @marchingbandrockable omg, I was there!! :):) I was listening to this cause I was thinking, that song was so good, I'm gonna youtube it. county band @ forest hills, right?!

  • I'm the only bassoon player at my school and I get really happy when I read all of the comments about how awesome it is!

  • What grade is this?

  • @HopeRox1011 I played it in 7th grade :P Just depends on how skillful the b and is I guess haha.

  • @HopeRox1011 Lol, I'm pretty sure this i either computerized or professionally recorded.

  • I had to play both movements of this song in jr. high and high school. Wasn't bad, but I didn't want to play it twice.

  • love the bassoon part haha my friend nick rocked it last year

  • I think we played every Ticheli song when I was in high school. This is definitely one of my favorites.

  • we sight read this last year for some contest but it was so easy it was hard. i wish we could've played this, its pretty

  • I played the piccolo part for it, but there isn't much of a part. Had a ton of fun anyway! I loved this song

  • our school played this just recently. a buddy of mine did the solo on her own exactly the way it sounds, it was beautiful (:

  • our middle school band played this peice. and i play saxophone... and i was second chair so i was part of the solo in the first movement and i almost peed my pants i was sooo nervous. also we played this piece at the hershey park band festival and we got first in every thing we r just amazing

  • @elfhysco What school do you go to?... because I'm in Rondout and WE got first place on everything. I have the pictures of the trophies to prove it.

  • my all-county band played this today in our concert and we rocked it lol such a pretty song ......i played the sandblocks and the susp. cymbal

  • There's bassoon in this?

  • I played this with the Symphonic band I'm in. It was so much fun! And the bassoon part was interesting, finally. My band teacher never picks music where the bassoon is prominent anywhere. I love this peice so much. :)

  • I got to do the awesome glissando on xylophone at the end. :) I wanted the marimba part, though.

  • Played this with the senior band at my school, it was absolutely nuts!

  • As my name implies, i play tuba. This song was really fun to play in band. Didn't seem like anyone had problems with key changes(though i kept missing an a A at 2:30) Our main problem was 126. Don't understand how a straight eigth note melody could be so challenging.

  • my middle school played this last year, it was awesome

  • my middle school band played it faster than this...=]

  • We're learning to play this piece

  • this could be faster still sound good

    ^ _ ^!

I found this no problem me and my twin payed in our middle school band and found it quite easy

  • yes, the solo was fun to play, but nerve racking to play in front of three judges for festival. Our director was bothering us over over about the style of this piece, we finally got i tho.

  • How about the Toms, Thats all me at 118 best part ever!!!First Movement is bad ass also, and I also play Tamb.

  • My band is playing this song for festival the low brass deep chords are a killer for us cause the section is only 5 people cause we have 4 band classes but we manage I'm on first chair tbone that last run at 126 is too fun

  • I play french horn, and our band is playing this. Great music. only problem is the key signatures. hard to keep track of sometimes.

  • @robotdude14 Sorry to be this kinda guy but, no key signatures and just watch out for the ocassional b natural and the killer e flat. lol. I, too, am a Horn player. goo luck with the song, we're playing it too.

  • @halomonsta I ment to say time signatures. sorry

  • then i completely agree... love the sax solo tho. it's awesome

  • I'm first chair flute and my jr. high school band's playing this. Alot of flutists complain about the really high notes but they're easy. so we'll be fine. :D

  • @AshleyRoxYerSox Lol. The notes aren't so high. There are worst XD I'm sure you'll sound fine. When I played, there was only two of us flutists. GOOD LUCK!

  • our bassoon keeps having problems with the rhythm at 93. D:

and the run the flutes have is MURDER. DDDDD:

  • the flute's run really isn't that bad, i'd played this last year in a concert band competion with the Salem High School Concert Band (Mass) we had no problems with it

  • i play bari sax and i have to transpose that part especially from bassoon to bari sax. not fun..

  • im in 9th and we are playing this for our music festival but i barley bpay anything but i got a solo cuz we dont have a bassson! btw i play bass clarinet!!! oh yeah!!!!

  • hahahahahah, we have a bassoon...

  • i barely play anything its alot of counting on my part

  • are you in pit? (percussion)

  • @twilightguRL1oo5 im not in pit i play the trumpet

  • this is an awesome song were, playing this

  • this song isnt hard at all

  • it's not, but it's the accidentals that get at you if you're not as good of a sight reader.

  • I'm playing first trombone on this! Agh!

  • @UltraMaXAtAXX first is fun and almost the same as second. i play second :D

  • Our second bone is strong. She chaired in our district honor band, and she's improved over the months! It's our third bone I'm worried about.

  • its pretty easy, i am too... O_o

  • Comment removed

  • Im in 7th grade honor band(saxophone) and we are playing this right now both, movements

  • I'm playing this song right now in band and it is one of the most fun songs i've EVER played!!! i LOVE it! :D

  • I remeber playing this song my 7th grade year. Unfortunately we didn't get to compete with this song because of our lack of percussion. But we played a song called Palladio and made all ones!
