@Dlazybeatbox - Thanks for the comment. I do have more tracks on TaurusBeats with unknown samples. Make sure you go and check them out and tell me what you think. Thanks again!
@TaurusBeats yeah man i subbed so i will check them out. to be honest i have no idea what i meant with the ear training. but i bet it was something about mixing and mastering since that is ear training for me. keep it up, like what your doing! - Peace D
@MrAsmakam - It's called "New Life" and you can download it FREE at TaurusBeats. Just sign up as a member. I'm revamping my website to make all of my tracks available to download FREE. Make sure you go get it and "like" it if you appreciate the free track.
I thought i reckonized a that sample and yes i did... check out smilez n southstar - tell me... if i didnt know better i wouldve said u made their beat !!!
@Jaysin114 - Thanks for the comments. I play each "instrument" individually without listening to the all of others in the background as a way to train myself to "feel" the music, develop better timing and my memory. I started doing it as a drummer - focusing on one of my band mates and mentally blocking out the rest during shows. I just play the individual parts like I hear them in my head - individually. It's just "ear training", I guess - nothing really special.
@Dlazybeatbox - Not sure I follow, please tell me what you mean. Maybe what I'm calling "ear training" is actually more "memory training" based on the way I explained it. When I think more about it, I am actually playing one part, memorizing it and then recalling the parts from memory while playing the next individual part. So, I am playing "by ear" but it's more memory recall when I do it like this.
@raginb1 - I didn't have to do anything special to get my MPD and Oxygen 8 hooked up at the same time in Reason 4.01. I just added both devices by looking them up in the preferences area. There is a "search for device" feature that auto detects the device when you strike a pad or a key on the controller.
@tumadresacomiomirabo - I move my head/body while composing in order to capture the "feel" I want the music to have. My head/body movement actually provides the swing/groove that the track will have. I have always done this a drummer.
How do you like the MPD32? Have you played any other pad controllers? I thought the pads were too hard to trigger for finger drumming, even after adjusting the sensitivity and velocity curve.
@TheSoundCypher - Yeah, the trigger finger was no good for me. The pads were too hard and unresponsive. I bought my MPD32 and haven't tried anything else. I love the Akai MPD32 controller.
hey bro. Love your stuff man. God bless your music. Check out some of my beats if you get the chance. I use reason as well. Tips and pointers are always welcome!!
Hey bro. I produce beats myself, just with FL Studio, a sample, a mouse and earphones, haha. But sometimes I wonder what if I've had a MPD, a keyboard, Reason etc? So I'm considering buying some real things instead of my current low budget (or even no-budget XD) production. So what would it cost to have like the same stuff you got over there? And what products would you recommend?
I like your music bro, keep it up. And even though I call Him Allah, may the Lord bless you.
Everytime i want to give up on making beats and can't get myself to focus because of RL issues ,i watch your video's ...and u just pull me back in the ring.
@SkibeatZ82 - Real life issues I face in my faith walk with Christ are what inspire this Moody instruMental Music I "create" (and I do use the term loosely). Truth is, I'm completely surprised and amazed at this music!!! I listen to it like, "WOW! Where did that come from?" The beauty and joy of this is that it pulls me back into it, connects with something inside, and I'm compelled to express what I feel through music. Glad that you're inspired, fam. Don't give up.
@TaurusBeats first I must say that the track is phenominal....the elements and composition are fluid which gives it an original quality. I stumbled onto this video 2 days ago while searching for tutorials for my 10+ year old Oxygen 8 (V1) that I just pulled out of storage....I have not stopped listening to this track since. Thanks for the upload as it is truly inspiring....
I clasify beats into three general categories. 1) Listen and vibe 2) Spitfyre 3) both.
this one is another 3 beat. I can see it has some headroom for rhymes and a good feel to groove to. good to see ya feeling your own beats to bro. -Elek
hey taurus first i love you music and your style so i had to go get a mpd32. becouse you made things like easy with the mpd 32. so i have one now and im running into some issues i have 4.0 reason and there saying that i need reason 4.1 to run the mpd32 and im not understanding whats going on and i see this was done year of 2009 and 4.1 was not out. if you can help me understand why i cant run my mpd on 4.0 when i see other people using 4.0 with this device.
hey man dope shit i was wondering would u be interested in selling this beat to me? please i need this shit right here this would set it off for me i can send u some of my music if u giv me ur email just to show u that it would be going into good hands lol but foreal hit me back about that
Nice music.... you should copy a dictionary sometime, preferably with both hands. Keep it up though, site had even more fire tracks so keep it up like I said.
hey taurus I see u use an oxygen 8 and reason 4 same as me except i got theoxygen 25 but recently i been getting alot of latency it's driving me nuts!!!!!!! hw do u solve that problem do u know i got an mpd 18 as well they all seemed to work for a couple day den stuff got ridiculous . cud it be cos i'm running on vista now? cos my old laptop was xp and i had no probs with it.
I've been thinking about going the MPC route, but I think this video has me convinced that I should probably just grab an MPD32 and a new Oxygen from guitar center. With these and Reason 4 combined, I will probably have saved a few hundred bucks lol

how can i hit a pad, sustaining the sample, and hitting another one to cutoff the first
a very simple but powerful device for sample slicing is the wave traveller! it is a native device of FL studio. many people make only scratches with it, but you can make an mpc program with it, and very ease.
That's what musicians do, we feel our music and move to it. If we can't bump to our own stuff, it ain't worth sharing. Leave him alone and make yourself useful.
NICE beat, the vibe is perfect for something I'd love to flow over. I just picked up a PC from a friend with Reason 4 on it. Wanna get the MPD you got. I hope I can come up with sh*t half this nice. Crazy sample, even without chopping it, very dope sounding.
yo that is the realest!!! i own the same exact gear i also have fl8 xxl reason 4 and sonar producer u have inspired me to knock the dust off the lab and get back to work! check out chi town remix let me know what ya think peace fam. keep it loud man keep it loud.
nice i also use the MPD32 and reason, did you slice up your samples in recycle and import them in the redrum ? caus as far as I know you can only trigger samples that keep playing to have that nice flow in the redrum device..
Taurus your really talented. The music is in you. I could just imagine what you could do in sony studios new york. You definately bring down the whole place. Im trailing your every step, keep up the sublime work.
xXKonvictMuzikXx: Short answer is yes. PM me for the long answer. Notice the first set of flips I do in the beginning of the vid. I'm emphasizing the downbeat in my flip. When I create my drum track, I place the kicks with the downbeat of the sample flip.
I'm using Reason 4 running on an AMD64 PC that I built, MPD32, M-Audio Oxygen 8 v2
Not sure if you can use the MPD32 with Reason3. Check to see if it shows up in the list of control surfaces under Preferences > Keyborads and Control Surfaces > Click 'Add' button > Manufacturer: Akai > Model

NICE beat, the vibe is perfect for something I'd love to flow over. I just picked up a PC from a friend with Reason 4 on it. Wanna get the MPD you got. I hope I can come up with sh*t half this nice. Crazy sample, even without chopping it, very dope sounding.

nice i also use the MPD32 and reason, did you slice up your samples in recycle and import them in the redrum ? caus as far as I know you can only trigger samples that keep playing to have that nice flow in the redrum device..

xXKonvictMuzikXx: Short answer is yes. PM me for the long answer. Notice the first set of flips I do in the beginning of the vid. I'm emphasizing the downbeat in my flip. When I create my drum track, I place the kicks with the downbeat of the sample flip.

nice video & beat.
I was wondering tho, how do you slice en chop the sample? In Reason or do you ease an other edit program?
Kreamcroque 2 years ago
im guessin he used the recycle program and imported it into reason on the dr. rex..
Biggle39 2 years ago
Almost...I used a program called Zero-X BeatCreator (sample chopping) and imported into the NNXT (more control of the samples).

dude is fire god damn, i have a question. can yu use the mpd 32 wit reason 3.0.4. 'nd whats the name of the workstation youre using. wit the mpd32
YoungCheriff 2 years ago
I'm using Reason 4 running on an AMD64 PC that I built, MPD32, M-Audio Oxygen 8 v2
Not sure if you can use the MPD32 with Reason3. Check to see if it shows up in the list of control surfaces under Preferences > Keyborads and Control Surfaces > Click 'Add' button > Manufacturer: Akai > Model
