We are mid. class and that didn't stop the Army recruiters after my son. I fought them off for 2yrs only to have my son join the US Marines 3 yrs later. Michelle dont make up lies. my brother is in the ANG and after BMT they had graduation most of the ppl in BMT are white guy's the military doesnt target people. they will try and go to most high schools and put up information. then you on your own time go talk to a recruiter. They also do get alot of their recruits from college's by giving them scholorships. You can join the military and fight, or not fight, your choice not thiers. The marines dont want to kill you!!

Michelle, the USMC requires a green card or citizenship just like it requires perfect health. However, I was medically questionable because of a prior sports injury. They gave me a waiver. Even though I wasn't "qualified" on paper, I received a waiver. You can get a waiver for just about anything. If they are exceptionally qualified or it will not affect duty, a waiver is given. Foreigners fit into this category

I served with many illegal citizens when I served the Marine Corps in California. The military can't hand out green cards, but they do help them gain their citizenship. I know this cause I have seen it with my own eyes.

There are such things known as waivers from the military. That's right, you don't know that cause you never served. If someone wanting to enlist doesn't meet requirements, the recruit station sends a request to Washington to get a waiver to allow that individual in? Please do your homework.

One more thing....a foreign ID and/or birth certificate is substantial enough documentation. Once this is in hand, they then get a waiver to allow that person to join.

When their talking about that documentation, they are referring to US citizens, aka, Americans. The answer to your question is yes. If your friend has lived in the US for a minimum of six months, and proves that he/she wants citizenship, then they can and will get a waiver.

The fact of the matter is that green cards and citizenship would help these people, and the military is one of the few ways they can achieve this if they are already inside the country. When you couple that with the bonuses and high pay (compared to the other jobs they'll have) it helps their families and gives them the opporitunity to have the capital necessary to start a business. I was eligible for 53,000.00 but only received 40,000.00 because that's the cap.
