Might suit a friends sailboat as most machines are too heavy and use old fashioned ceramic or tungsten steel magnets. At sea corrosion is a big problem but nowadays stainless steel ballraces are available. I'm renovating a Rutland this way (it was seized and had horrible brown rust streaks running out of the the bearing housing - hours of amusement) Yaw bearings were also rusted and seized - only do-able as a hobby but easier than building a machine from scratch.
