Poison Oak is one of my favorite native plants. I have noticed two varieties of Rhus toxicodendron. There is a bush variety which grows under a hot sun. Its leaves are smaller and the bush itself is dense with foliage. The other variety has larger leaves, but tends to grow like a vine around trees in the same manner an ivy plant would do. Both have white berries and leaves that turn red in the autumn, however, the bush variety has more berries on it than the vine.
There does indeed appear to be a wide variety of these beautiful but irritating plants worldwide. A quick look at Wkikpedia turned-up some interesting info. I have noticed the variation in the plants in my area as well - some bushy, other more vine-like... and then there's Squawbrush (Rhus trilobata) which looks very similar but with smaller leaves and is harmless. Lots to watch out for up there in the hills! XD
I've been pretty impressed with this camera so far.. It also helped that the foliage was particularly bright and colorful, too! Thanks for watching and commenting :-)
This is one of our few plants that really change colors nicely for fall, and they really do stand out from all the other foliage. Glad you enjoyed - thanks for watching :-)
This is the only time of year that this plant really stands out - it's one of the few that changes color in a big way! This was shot with the Canon HF100 HD camcorder. It really does do a nice job of recording color, even in minimal lighting. :-)
Beautiful foliage!

Great video! As I often say my bushwhacking is curtailed more by CHEMISTRY than PHYSICS. (Detour because of poison oak)

I'd have to agree - I'd rather deal with scaling a cliff than traversing a patch of THESE! XD

I agree - the sounds of a running stream are very relaxing - probably second only to the sounds of ocean surf :-)
