  • AOR 80's RULES!!!!!!

  • File both Glenn Hughes and Pat Thrall under "criminally underrated". Hughes played and sang on my favorite Deep Purple album, has recorded a pile of great songs with Tony Iommi, and is currently ripping peoples' heads off in Black Country Communion. Pat Thrall, meanwhile, gave the mighty Pat Travers a serious run for his money as co-lead guitarist in The Pat Travers Group. Hughes/Thrall is an inspired collaboration, as commercial as it is.

  • @KowankoMusic

Serious run for his money ? Hell, Pat Thrall outclassed Pat Travers 24/7 with his eyes closed playing with his teeth. Amazing tone, phrasing and a far better technique than travers, the few live clips available from that time just confirms that in my opinion and so does the studio albums, Pat Thrall could make the hairs on your arms stand up with just a bend. One of my all time favourite players, simply kickass.

  • this album is a classic a real gem

  • i've heard his stuff. I'm not impressed. On the Deep Purple stuff, he sounds like he wants to be a white Stevie Wonder. He does not do soul singing any justice. He is no 'Voice of Rock'. How many records did he sell? A: not many. Any singer was joining Black Sabbath in the mid-80's. That's not an exclusive crowd. David Coverdale is WAY more a voice of rock. David has at least sung with Jimmy Page. This 'Voice of Rock' is self-proclaimed and not deserved.

  • @EContrary How many records did he sell? Is this a litmus test for quality? How many records did Hootie and the Blowfish, Celine Dion and Michael Bolton sell? Geez, you might as well measure artistic merit by the number of Grammy awards won (fun fact: the aforementioned three crap artists have all been given Grammies).

  • I think Night Ranger stole some of their sound, sounds kinda like dont tell me you love me, even the solo.

  • Glenn was and still is not a very good singer. His singing in Deep Purple sucked bad. Listen to any live recording or him in DP and he sounds like a cat being strangled. He sounds like a white guy trying too hard to sound "soulful".

  • @EContrary Are you a specialist in singers... before you speak you should listen to the more than 30 albums recorded Glenn Hughes with Black Sabbath, Black Country Communion and most of those are albums solo. Of the few singers in the world that are capable of singing soul, funk, rock, blues and all what he wants. He was in Trapeze before Deep Purple, listen first and then shut up.

Inform yourself before you say crap

  • Hey dude Glenn Hughes has got one of the best voices in the world, especially in Hard Rock/Metal..thats i reckon anyway. But yeah listen to the Gary Moore album 'Run For Cover' he sings on that and also the John Norum album 'Face The Truth', you can't get much better then that when it comes to good vocal technique.

  • @EContrary that is why he is known as "the voice of rock" (!)

You know nothing about him obviously. Which singers we like is a matter of personal taste, but to diss him so clearly when he is known as the voice of rock is just stupid to me.

  • @EContrary Yeehh Stevie Wonder named Glenn Hughes his fave singer in 1972 when the Trapeze album "You are the music" came out .. but what does SW know. LMAO

  • @EContrary Just get fucked honestly and honestly get fucked. Wow you fucking totally pathetic person. I do relly feel sorry for a person for the first time in my life. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The vintage music from 80s is just amazing!

  • Glenn's my favourite vocalist, and if you like Pat Thrall, check out the first "Automatic Man" album- a very cool, unique, spacey album finally on CD.

  • OMG I cant believe this is on here! I turned everyone I knew on to this album, we jammed the hell out of it. FOR THE TIME, IT KICKED ASS and it still holds up. Glen Hughes is probably the most overlooked vocalist ever, ironically Ritchie Blackmore chose him AND David Coverdale to sing lead for Deep Purple when...was it Ian Gillian that left? Sadly, while Glen Hughes has had success in Europe and elsewhere, NO ONE EVEN KNOWS who he is. Pat Thrall kicks Travers ass on this record, too!

  • @serpentbrew I thought I read somewhere that they originally just wanted Glenn for lead vocals, but decided they needed a "frontman" as well- typical lead singer without instrument, sort of thing.

  • Sometimes Hughes sings all the songs the same way and the same lines but his powerful bass is there.

  • best glenn hughes album outside deep purple

  • coolllll

  • Too bad the follow-up album was cancelled, guess there wasn't any demand from the record companies

  • I love this song & Hughes!

But this PV is too old for young.

Especially, it is regrettable that the woman looks like Michael Tomioka.

(He is Japannease DJ,Talent & Comedian.)

  • the Voice Of Rock

  • just awesome song but glenn did a harder version with the Europe Guitar player John Norum live check it out on youtube buddy

  • @aphasia1972 I saw Glenn in Newcastle in 1994 live with the "For Now On" album soon after he kicked the drink and drugs. He had 2 guitarists, didn't realise it was the guy from Europe but should have figured that out. Anyway the band was superb. Have you checked out "First Underground Nuclear Kitchen" with Chad from the Chilli's on drums. Very good

  • Hughes Thrall. Gimme a break. The greatest album of ALL time. This album is really the finest piece of music ever recorded. Thank Heaven for Glenn Hughes and Pat Thrall. 'Cos you know I've got your number. Pure bliss. Can I get an amen..............

  • The voice of rock!

  • THIS IS MUSIC...................the best !

  • Amazing voice, great guitar parts, what else? Very, very good this stuff, I love this kind of music. AOR 80's rules!!!

  • @kalungarocker Great bass playing by Glenn too

  • This album didn't the the coverage it deserved at the time. The whole album was great.

  • rned into my mind forever

  • One of my top ten albums of all time. I remember the order of album so well that I could'nt listen to it without starting from the beginning to the end. The last song was Coast to Coast - on the LP. What an incredible album which nobody knew about.

  • @fluxdust Excuze me!?!Still is to this very day MyFriend!!!Peace Out

  • An amazing album.

  • Great bass lines!

    Great guitar!

    Great voice!!

    This is Awesome!

  • great!

  • Always loved this song, but just realized how much this sounds like Night Ranger, even the solo. Or should I say how much Night Ranger sounds like them?

  • exactly because glenn hughes is a great songwriter

  • グレンのこんな姿が見れるとは!

  • Great song from a great album! Thanx for posting!!! Aahhh, and for those wondering, Frankie Banali of Quiet Riot fame played the drums on this album.

    ROCK ON!

  • also gary ferguson and gary mallaber played drums on this album

  • The most underated Hard Rock masterpiece album. Every song on it was a gem. After the first ablum they did a "rap" song for the "Dragnet" movie with Tom Hanks

  • somewhat sadly, the best vocals ever are in the Dragnet song called City of Crime. Glenn's voice was ultra powerful on that one.

  • They should have stayed together for a few more albums, probably two or three more...

Damn! I hope Hughes/Thrall 2 is as good as this one!

  • theres a new album recorded by the pair and it should be comin out this year ;)

  • This is a dumb video done to promote excellent music and musicians.

    Hughes/Thrall deserved better.

  • Hughes Thrall had the cool video girls way before Robert Palmer (RIP). Some of those shots are pretty riske as well. Don't think I ever saw this on MTV. Thanks for posting.

  • On another thought- Although the drummer did a great job on this record, I think another great addition would be Tommy Aldridge. Glenn, Pat, and Tommy. Wow. Go find the original live recording of Boom Boom Out Go the Lights to hear Tommy and Pat Thrall. That gives me chills.

  • "Go for what you know" is the name of the live Pat Travers album and it is one of the absolute best live albums ever!!! Tommy Aldridge, Pat travers, Pat Thrall and Mars Cowling on bass... Simply SUPERB!!!

  • Agreed. I don't remember ever seeing this video on MTV but I do recall seeing the "look in your eyes" video once or twice.

  • Can you imagine if they ever got together for a few more albums together???? It would be scary how great it would have been.. Check out any of Glenn's solo projects, Great stuff!!!!

  • Absolutely.

  • One the best damn hard rock albums EVER!!!!! Glenn's vocals are amazing and Pat's playing is over the top. Check him out with Meatloaf during the early 90's.

  • Hughes Thrall one album wonders. Which alway got me to wondering why did they split?
