  • For the benefit of others, I will explain a few things here. MeowYap is so retarded that he acts butthurt when a person who clearly knows more about video than he does points out that he wasted a lot of effort by posting a "high definition" rendering of a video where the source material was quite clearly an off-air VHS recording of a broadcast that was filmed in America during the 1990s - in other words, standard definition is the most one can get out of it baby! (cont'd)

  • (cont'd) And the "planet is not overpopulated"? Why? Because you say so? Everyone in the fishing industry would beg to differ, and have been begging to differ since the 1970s. Persons who have studied the planet's resource problems at great length, such as Pimentel, also beg to differ.

So the question I am sure is on every non-ignorant viewer's mind now is "how does it feel to be batting .000, MeowYap?".

  • @462kitkat If I could go back in time and throw the asshole who invented political correctness into a plastic shredder feet-first, I would do so with less contemplation in the matter than it normally takes me to buy a bottle of milk. Just saying.

  • I was diagnosed when I was six, but got my first vaccination later that year.

I'm not sure if I was cursed, they said because I had a very high IQ it would hurt me to be labled... I'm now almost 48 and I have never fit in to this world... I have a fixation with many things and I tend to learn them to a level that is unusual.

Some times, I really with I did not have this stupid IQ, I would rather be around other autiscs even if it ment being in a home.

  • wtf video is not working

  • If you are experiencing the same problems I am then I suggest changing the video from 360p to 240p to view the video. Hopes this helps you watch the video.

  • Thank you!

Trying to understand myself.. I don't have motor control issues, but my thinking is very fast and broad, but language and experssing myself and communicating with others - sucks.

When I was 20 I was very successful in business and politics - it was very natural, I didn't have to try. I don't get how I am this way.. Maybe I have autusim.

  • @RUSSKAYAG If ignorance truly is bliss, you must be in perpetual orgasm. I pray to Odin you have no children and will never have any. Simply giving an innocent child the kind of DNA that is necessary to believe such unfounded goop is abuse so far as I am concerned.

  • Thank you for sharing, Dean! My son is an Aspie and it means a lot to me to hear the experiences of others with Autism.

  • From my experience, there are 3 types of people in this world: Sociopaths, "Normal people" and people who are different due to either a mental condition or being on the autistic spectrum. Some people may be offended by this but I think "Normal people" are easily the worst of the 3. At least Sociopaths are not hypocritical, they just want the power to do what ever they want. "Normal people" are just 2 legged sheep who can't exist outside the herd. In fact they wet their pants at the very idea !

  • I don't know anyone with autism and maybe for that reason have never found myself particularly curious about the subject. However, I found your video extremely interesting. I also think it's remarkable how fully you were able to "train" yourself into the smart, articulate person that you appear to be today, despite the difficulties of your condition and your unfortunate school experiences. Well done man. I wish you the best.

  • i know how you feel i am 14 and have aspergurs

  • @OzZyFaN007 my cousin has aspergers and i have autism

we saw the same doctors but not the same time

    i was diagnosed when i was 15 still 15

  • governments faut its the vaccines

  • @fuckthaworld323 The children of the 80s who went around saying "fukk the world" in response to some very normalist attempts at bullying would find your ignorance utterly appalling. Well done.

  • I SPEAK UP for you and others Globally <3 You can find my cause on facebook. "One Voice" 4 Mental Health Awareness. WONDERFUL empowerment! I LOVE your video <3

  • Dean thank you for being such an inspiration to so many people.

  • I feel bad for him. But yeah he should just smoke weed because he is not that bad off.

  • P.S. To those of you who are ignorant, belligerent, and calling names(such as RETARD), how would you feel if it was your child or grandchild that is diagnosed with autism? What if they were treated with ignorance and intolerance such as you have shown? Think about it!

Dean, I am sorry that I had so much to say. GOOD FOR YOU, SPEAKING FOR YOURSELF! I am just sick and tired of people being so ignorant. BEST WISHES TO YOU!

    THE END!

  • As I stated before individuals are a lot brighter than you think. Autism is not the real tragedy, your ignorance toward people on the spectrum, that is the true tragedy.

You also need to be careful of what you say to others and about others, Karma's well Karma. People who are not on the spectrum expect those who are on the spectrum to respect them, you should show some respect yourselves.

  • People with Autism are not stupid or retarded(I find this word very offensive), they simply don't care to prove themselves to others. I admire individuals with autism in the fact that their minds are ever so innocent, most autistics view the world differently that those of us who are not on the spectrum.

Do you realize that these individuals in the spectrum have something in common with many famous people including:

  • Dean,I would like to thank you for giving me hope for my children all 3 are on the spectrum.I am sure that childhood must have been extremely rough since you were not diagnosed earlier in life. To those who refer to people with autism as retarded.Adults and Children with autism may not seem to have a high IQ this is simply because when the doctor pulls out the Stanford-Binet testing kits it is not advanced or challenging enough so they refuse to participate.

    PART 1..CONT.

  • I am so happy you are speaking up about yourself love!

You have others here for you.

  • Have you ever tried medicinal cannabis?

  • @dubified89 I am a bit dumbfounded as to how to respond. What, exactly, would I be hoping to accomplish with medicinal cannabis?

  • you think *you're* screwed....i wasn't diagnosed until i was FORTY! - (lol - actually, it's hysterically sad, eh?) - and that was only after *i* figured it out and asked my dr. for a referral to see a specialist and get tested...bingo....well, bingo, but no payoff...too late, i'm screwed. i got treated the same way as you while growing up...i'm still amazed how my parents and teachers had *no* clue...hmm. thanks for making this video. :)

  • My son was diagnosed when he was 2 years old. After a nasty divorce and custody fight, I did not slip through the cracks and was diagnosed myself at 38. I like to think that I am a success at being a single parent, and can get my son the attention and understanding that I sadly lacked. I just wish Jenny McCarthy would shut the heck up.

  • @Int0l3r4nc3 I just wish we could make a video of Jenny McCarthy listening to us telling her exactly what we think of her before we mail her back to Oprah Winfrey in finely-ground pieces.

  • @aspie182 I would not wish her bodily harm, but rendering her mute would be very nice indeed. Every single forum I go to to hear others talk about their trials is littered with these 'curebie' buttwads. What rankles my fur the most is how people turn to make profit off the people that have problems getting over their grief of being unable to accept a loved one for who they are. Sick cycle.

  • @Int0l3r4nc3 In my opinion, bodily harm is the least of what she deserves. She has already done substantial and irreparable harm to millions of people whom she has never so much as looked at. Being tortured to death would be too nice for her. The latter half of your comment touches upon something we would do well to confront curebies with, however - how incredibly and utterly selfish they really are.

  • So angry. I'm autistic too, man, you can't fix it just live with it. It's a difference not a disease.

  • I think your awesome.

  • im scared that if i have a child he will have autism, you cant stop it even if the family of the parents have no history of problems you can still have autistic children and i really hope i dont get one

  • Sorry people are so ignorant. Thank you for putting yourself out there...

  • @DeityofStuff Not just any expert, either. But multiple experts, two of whom are in the top ten list for expertise concerning the autistic spectrum.

  • Honey I will speak out for you anytime. I have two boys with autism and they are my special angels for whom I fight every single breath of my life. You are an intelligent, articulate, sweet boy and my heart melts for you., Please know there is some crazy lady (me) in New Jersey (USA) who wishes I could reach through this computer screen and give you the biggest hug in the world. God bless you and feel free to contact me at any time. SamanthaKaneNJ@aol.com

  • I still don't fit in, still don't have a job, and most therapists don't know what to do with autistic adults. Why? Because clinical research funds go almost entirely to studying autism in children, not adults. There are no standard therapeutic methods for adults.

Guess what folks, most autistic people ARE ADULTS! Autism isn't a childhood illness. It's lifelong.

And I'm pissed about it! And my mate Dean is pissed about it! We don't exist in the public eye, and they don't really want to know us.

  • @dcs002 Indeed. I am about to go and have a bit of a conversation with the university I have been trying to study media at, and tell them I am not willing to suffer for their ignorance any longer.

  • So I finally know what's been going on my whole life! But now what? Search the Internet for resources for autistic people and all you find is support for parents & teachers, stories about children, and conspiracy theories all over the place involving mercury and vaccines and goofy diets. But what about me? My PhD is in nutrition - I know the food stuff, and the other conspiracy crap is just making children suffer. But I'm an adult? What am I supposed to do now with what remains of my life?

  • Being autistic and unable to hold a job, even with a PhD, is depressing. So depressing that I was hospitalized 3 times in 2008. Yet still the psychiatrists thought I was fine, other than the depression and maladaptive coping strategies.

I haven't mentioned the tragedy of my upbringing, and I'll leave it for now.

So, after all that, after 12 years receiving mental health services, none of my providers realized the truth. My brother told me he thought I should be evaluated for autism, and I was.

  • I nearly flunked out of secondary school, and I was always put in the slow classes. No one expected anything of me but shame, and I learned to live in that shame.

But somehow the university environment worked for me. I was always fascinated with science, for which the bullies loved to pick on me, and I taught myself a lot. I tried one evening class at the local university, and it seemed easy! Long story short, I got a PhD and a few research publications, but I'm still autistic and jobless.

  • Dean, I'm 43, and I was diagnosed last September. I think you and I have a lot in common. We're both living with a great deal of anger, and neither of us can change what might have been if only...

At 42, I find out I'm autistic, and my miserable life suddenly began to make sense! All the bullying and peer harassment from kids I didn't know, teachers & parents blaming or not believing me, no friends, and only freakshows would date me, couldn't hold a job, but everyone somehow thinks I'm normal!

  • wtf is autistic?

  • I liked seeing your video. I'm an aspie too, and although I'll say I'm "on the spectrum" I don't like to identify myself as "autistic". Don't listen to the asses that say you couldn't possibly be on the spectrum just because they themselves know someone who's worse off. Saying that is like saying someone who uses a wheelchair isn't handicapped unless both their legs are amputated above the knee. People are so ignorant.

  • I'm A Mac

  • good on ya mate, keep up the good work. dont worry bout all the unbeleivers and ignorant twats that have commemted, there not worth it :)

  • good video - nice to hear people speak out about their autistic conditions and experiences.....for those who say that you cannot be autistic if you speak, etc.....what aload of crap.......autism is a spectrum, some people are mute, but then there are those who can speak but need extra support in other areas of their communication.....you do not have to be mute, rocking forwards and backwards or hand flapping to have a communication disorder......people should be more open minded ...take care. x

  • Waaaaaa! Like the whole world doesn't have problems of our own. Get a grip.

  • Keep up the good work of explaining who you are and how you feel. Responding to cretins with anger only builds on their ignorance. Truly understanding autism and aspergers is a lifetime quest. Thank you for helping us understand.

  • Keep up the good work of explaining who you are and how you feel. Responding to cretins with anger only builds on their ignorance. Truly understanding autism and aspergers is a lifetime quest. Thank you for helping us understand.

  • Have anyone who does not believe this man ever heard the saying if you met one person with autism... then you met one person with autism... Temple Grandin look her up. She has autism and is very articulate.

  • dude have you tried supplementation w/ HEMP SEED OIL from a health food store

  • So sorry to hear that you didn't have the support you needed going through school. That seems to be fairly common with many children who are labeled as "different". You must have been a delightful, yet misunderstood child. Wishing you great things as you move forward into your future. Thanks for posting.

  • @aspie182

    @NoStreetBs

    @oOLilMammaOo

Aspie182, I also do not think you're autistic. First of all, your user name is Aspie, which is a term for Aspergers Syndrome, which is similar to autism but a lot milder.

My 13 year old mildly autistic nephew could never make a 7 minute video, contemplating the way he's felt about hardly anything. This is much too deep for someone who has autism. Plus, it's rare to be diagnosed when you're 26. The vast majority of parents realize it in the first few years.

  • @TRal55 Go to reputable autism experts such as Anthony Attwood and tell them how mild my autism is. And while you are at it, stop by my place so I can tear your ignorant little head off and shove it up your arse. Your nephew does not deserve to have his life made more difficult by having ignorant retard assholes like you shoving words into his mouth, an act I make no secret of considering tantamount to rape.

  • @TRal55

Dude just cos his autism isnt as noticable as your nephews, dosnt mean it isnt there.

  • @TRal55 I hope you don't feel alone in your ignorance. Your attitude is tragically common. I'm also autistic, and I know what it's like to appear normal (i.e., hide my autism), a skill which has taken decades to learn (incompletely), only to have ignorant people telling me I'm not autistic, and then being bewildered why I act like I am autistic, though I appear normal.

What do you want from us? Do you expect us to remain helpless burdens so you know how to recognize us?

I was diagnosed at age 42

  • @TRal55 Aspergers is on the autism spectrum my son is full blown autistic and at least I educated myself to learn about before making wild accusations to ppl you are cleary unaware that most docters about 20 yrs ago did not know as much about autism as they do today becuz more children are being born with autism so yes he is autistic only mild but autistic nevertheless get educate yourslef before you accuse somebody else of lying

  • @TRal55 Luke Jackson has written a whole book about ASD, Asperger Syndrome in particular, he is only 13, Aspies can be deep.

  • @TRal55 Oh yeah, and while we are on the subject, try going to my parents or sister and telling them that there is any such thing as "mild" autism. Whether it is the memories of trying to help me during my seizures or the fallout they copped from my school years that motivates it is irrelevant. They *will* chase you up a tree and set it on fire.

  • Wow! What a relief to see this. My daughter, 5 has just been diagnosed with Aspergers and sensory Processing disorder and my 22 month old son was just diagnosed with ASD. My daughter starts occupational therapy this week because they feel that is all she needs. I also have my kids on the GFCF diet which I have seen improvements on. She is not as violent and says the glass under skin is gone. My son doesn't bang his head until he bruises as much, he tries to talk and he smiles

  • he hasn't even started therapy yet which will be everything from OT to speech. My daughter seems fine so I never thought anything was wrong but she cannot stand things being out of order, kids breaking the rules so she beats them up. I just thought something was wrong so I made the appointment and found this out. I don't believe in medicating. People w autism are who they are and need nothing changed about them. You can learn so much from them.

  • This man seems perfectly fine to me

  • Absolutely true. The general knowledge about education was very poor in the past all over the world. I am autistic, too, and I would love to talk to you about insights and share with you thoughts about my life as well. I am extremely interested in finding out how others live with this neurological phenomenon and how we can live with it and make the best out of our lives. Thank you for this video. Nicola

  • And i thought i was autistic. .

  • In what way is he autistic?

  • what is autism??????????????????

  • @NoStreetBs Oh, right, I can string a whole sentence together, so there is no way in hell I can be autistic. You filthy little piece of shit. Put your son up for adoption now before your ignorance and abuse turns him into something that resembles me, complete with severe PTSD symptoms (that I left out of the video just to suck retards like you in) and a hatred of normalists. Great going there. On this overpopulated planet, people like you should not be allowed to breed.

  • @aspie182 I second this. seriously, nobody other than those i tell have or ever will know I have Aspergers. it is autism, just because we can articulate doesn't mean are lives aren't hard. Oh and just for the record NoStreetsBs for future reference, don't talk about your kid when he is around, and don't assume he doesnt hear and understand everything you say. Just because He/She doesn't react , doesn't mean their not thinking about it. plus it feels really degrading

  • @NoStreetBs There are varying degrees of autism/ASD. Get a grip, if you really have an autistic child then you should consider that you're perhaps being biased and selfish with this comment. I really do understand how hard it is to care for someone with severe autism but I accept that it seriously affects the quality of life for people with less severe symptoms.

  • @NoStreetBs Get a fucking clue! Plenty of people on the spectrum speak fluently. As a matter of fact, for some of us, language itself is an obsession. A person with autism or aspergers is a person first and foremost, and like all people have varying levels of intellect and aptitude along with all the other aspects that make a person individual. Have you ever watched Temple Grandin give a talk? Are you gonna tell me she's not autistic either? Moron...

  • @NoStreetBs that is why it is called a SPECTRUM, because there are those who are high functioning and some who are not functioning so well and are non verbal. I find your comments very offensive and invalidating, I have a high functioning autistic son and to say that he is not autistic because he can speak is just downright ignorant and very far from the truth. You obviously know nothing about ASD if you think the ability to speak coherently makes you non autistic!!

  • @NoStreetBs okay let's try this again, instead of telling him he is a liar, why not congratulate him on how well he has done for a person with his condition. Yes from watching this video he does not seem to have autism at all.. but isnt that an amazing wonderful thing to have witnessed.. and doesn't it give you hope for your son and all others suffering greatly!

  • @niamhlorraine One, I am not doing well at all. Two, what makes you think that retard's son is "suffering", except from his own dad's incredible ignorance? In fact, between my PTSD and the stories I hear from others who are unlucky enough to be on the spectrum but be too capable to receive anything but abuse, I can tell you that 99.99% of any "suffering" associated with autism is inflicted through the extreme ignorance of others.

  • @aspie182 excuse me? i was sticking up for you. and im sorry to hear that your not doing well. but for your information, my brother has severe autism ! we look after him very well and do so much to help him, he is doing really well and is undergoing lots of intervention to help him. and yes, i do think lots of people with autism are suffering, not from abuse. my brother is suffering, i know that he is because he doesnt know how to let us know what he needs, what he wants to do.

  • @NoStreetBs thats not true at all.. Being a special education teacher of children with ASD your under estimating how articulate many people with autism can be.

ever heard the saying if you met one person with autism... then you met one person with autism... Temple Grandin look her up. She has autism and is very articulate.

  • @NoStreetBs

Hey hes speaking out for autistic people, dont bag him, hes trying to help people like your son. Theres different severities of autism

  • @NoStreetBs Why do you think there is a spectrum for autistic people because there are different degrees of severity. He is "trully" autistic just less than what you have experienced. I think this video is so important for parents with children who are similar

  • @NoStreetBs No, you have the wrong impression of autism. Autism does not strike any single function consistently. IQ is often unaffected, and delayed verbal skills can often be made up later in life. Einstein couldn't speak at all until he was 5. He flunked out of school (age 12 or 13?) and never made it into college, except as a grad student and professor. His self-care was terrible, but his marvelous intellect, considered too poor for school, was simply eccentric and mighty. He's one of us!

  • Powerful video. It is refreshing to hear someone speak about their first hand experience, rather than try to guess autism symptoms by merely observing those with the disorder. I am inspired by this video.

  • @MultiSnooty Autism has nothing to do with mental retardation. Some autistic people are above average intelligence or are even savants (geniuses).

  • Just reading these comments demonstrate what a difficult struggle we have to educate the uninformed and counter ignorance.

  • @udoUpo Indeed, the comment I read just before yours (ie the one above) makes me amazed and sad that our society can allow people to grow to adulthood and yet remain so incredibly ignorant.

  • autism is merely a computer program

  • autism severity varies with every person. i work with autistic children and some can function perfectly (with a few exceptions) and speak clearly. I have some that need help with basic functions and speak very little

  • @patches0208109 I am seriously asking this...is autism the same as being retarded? retard is not the new N word despite what some being may say. I am not calling people stupid, I am just asking if their mental functions have been retarded due to defect.

  • @ryecatcher25 It doesn't matter if you're talking about someones mentral fuctions or calling people stupid. Calling some one that is uncalled for :-( The 'R' word should be fortotten just like the 'N' word. Horrible degrading words that dehumanize those who are different have no place in modern era.

  • @ryecatcher25 that was what I thought too. I remember a boy in my school when I was in middle school that had autism. I was only in middle school and I am a compassionate person, so while people were making fun of him and being mean, I defended him. I did think he was retarded bc he was the first person i was exposed to. Now, both of my children are on the spectrum. I wish children could realize it can happen to anybody. I wonder how many of those mean kids ened up having children with Autism

  • friend there are different levels of Autism. You can be mildly autistic.

  • There is no need to marginalize the man. You don't know all that hes been through. There is alot of personal bagage that im sure he has not told us about. Judging by how little he looks directly at the camera, is a good indaction that he still has alot of trouble with social interations that require eye contact. An Autistic person his age should already been over that by now.

I saw alot of other signes that are telling me hes highly junctioning. I should no becuase I am one myself.

  • Patches, autism has many degrees. Your brother sounds like one of the severe cases. Autism isn't just hand flapping and plate spinning and Rainman shit. A person with autism can live independently with little or no assistance depending on what part of the spectrum they're on. It sounds like you really haven't read in to this disorder and are only going by what you see in your brother. You assume all autistic people should be like him?

  • I'm 32 and going through the EXACT same feelings you are about your past. I can't count the number of Psychiatrists I've told my symptoms to, and none of them picked up on it. I don't have any answers, but know you're not alone.

  • Aspie182, I honestly don't think early detection would have made a bit of difference in the outcome of your life. It sounds like you've done well considering the anxiety that most of you carry. If early detection made a big difference with Aspergers, you'd be like the majority walking around accomplishing nothing great. Keep on writin!

  • wow amazing..so inspiring as my niece is also autistics hope she grows to be as great as u..u hae put some hope in me thanks

  • The one thing that you might not understand is that autisic people can not adapt to the real world. The things that we can't understand are the things we can not see. For example, if my 16 year old son found himself lost with a large crowd he would not be able to understand how to ask for help. If someone tried to help he would be able to answer questions but not know how to ask them.

  • Ok, I understand... thank you for the insight

  • which of the spectrum disorder have you been diagnosed with? for some reason, it looks like Asperger Disorder?

  • gee, i dunno, it could be, since his name is aspie182 lmao

    aspie=aspergers

  • @emeraldsunsets wow, how long did it took you yo figure that out, your so brilliant......

  • @nraldiris1

    why thanks

your sarcasm is duly noted and ignored

  • lololol chris chan

  • More power to ya! Ignorence is my biggest pet peeve!

  • this is a very inspiring vid..There is alwayz hope.... thanx..:P

  • sounds like my life. I spent 10 years taking all kinds of meds for bi polar and not a bit of it did much good. That is part of what made me think I had something else. I still don't go to PTA meetings or parties unless my family is throwing the shindig. get togethers leave me exhausted from trying to figure out if I've crossed some imaginary line that NT's don't tell me about. I don't hang out at all with ppl unless I've told them about my AS. Luckily I found a church that has a group of . . .

  • autistic adults. We meet on Wednesday nights and have a bible study. It's a small group, but we like it that way. No one laughs at us if we stim, or if we don't get a joke. we just have fun reading God's word. I started out about a year ago as a member, now I am one of the teachers. It is my passion to work with other ASD people. They are the one group of people I don't have to stress out about being around.

  • Do autistic people have autistic kids

  • Some times. I do. It makes it easier for the kids in some ways. could you imagine being punished or called a bad kid for stimming or acting out because of sensory overload? NT parents don't understand why their autistic kids do these things. As an ASD parent, I do understand and can discipline the rude behaviors, ie hitting her brother, while redirecting the autistic behaviors ie removing her from a loud room before a meltdown occurs. hope this helps answer your question.

  • Yes. Well, sort of. Aspergers tend to have Asperger kids. Autism is a disorder that occurs within aspergers' from external circumstances (especially rearing and neutricion are important aspects).

But yes, it does appear to be genetic and inheritable.

  • Don't give up! I know exactly how you feel. I was not diagnosed until I was 32 years old. I really struggled in school too. You are not screwed! I have had to become my own advocate. I've had to do a lot of therapies for myself. Just finding tricks that worked for me as I stumbled along. I have a 3 year old daughter who is also autistic and I constantly find myself envying her for getting a lot of services early. I often times use the therapies for myself as well as for her.

    We are not alone.

  • Your not screwed. You are intelligent but learn in a different manner than a class setting. I learn best by myself too. You'll do great, stay strong. We are with you.

    Peace

  • aspie182, I am enjoying your videos and found them because the Robert Heinlein Stranger In A Strange Land video caught my eye.

Specifically, I am enjoying your use of music, and your vivid way of sharing your point of view.

Hve you tried your hand at writing any film scripts?

  • I have a lonely child and I'm from Morocco I saw the video and I want to know more you can become a son like you all I hope so I hope to help you communicate, thank you

  • Be strong! I am with you!

  • I would like to know what you are saying so would you have the time or inclination to subtitle or close caption your video? I am deaf, that is why I am asking.

    Thank you.

  • If I knew how, I would do so. Unfortunately, the source materials for these videos have disappeared, and the likelihood of me doing another lot like this again is not that great.

  • If you really are interested in this video, Ill take some time to write and then send to you the words he's saying.

    It's up to you - it's not a problem.

  • I'm with you bro! There needs to be more support for autistics! Look up Temple Grandin and read her book "Animals In Translation"

  • wow, he's autistic? if that's true, then he's a REALLY high-functioning one. I'm currently writing a literature review on autism for class, and many many many people diagnosed with ASD do not have the ability to introspect or recognize their sense of "self." This is impressive. Do intervention programs really work? To what extent? Does anybody know?

  • Some of these losers believe youtube is about slapstick, low brow comedy and whats new in the media. Then they come across the dark publications of youtube and with that unconcerned attitude. Some people don't realize the encyclopedic properties, and make witless comments after priorly watching a cat on a keyboard.

  • Thank you so much for sharing your story.

I feel sad and rageful at how you were treated.

  • I feel more anger and despair at how those with the power to influence the way the next chapters are written use that influence. I tend to feel the strongest urge to simply give up and declare this world a failure.

  • Some academics are beginning to think autism is not something to "cure", but that the NT's should be as willing to adapt as they expect us to be. Search Google for "Luke Beardon Asperger Syndrome good ppt" and take the second link. Simon Baron-Cohen presents a similar view in his book The Essential Difference.

I can relate to the computer thing. I was given a Spectrum 128k +3 and it was great using it and experimenting with programming in Basic. The computer was more predictable than people.

  • No, not beginning. This has been a widely held belief among academia ever since Hans Asperger's writings were finally translated. Probably earlier, in fact.

History is replete with examples where one group has tried to convince the world that purity rather than diversity strengthens the Human species. Fortunately, evidence in the scientific world consistently proves the exact opposite.

  • Luckily eugenics is not considered a venerable goal & people are more accepting of other cultures etc, but there's still a long way to go. Unfortunately believing oneself better than others is the norm. NAS's website says "there is no cure" - so they feel it impossible to express to a NT world AS is just a difference.

Until people begin to accept the ideas proposed by B F Skinner in Beyond Freedom & Dignity (synopsis available on Wikipedia), I doubt NT's will accept AS is just a difference.

  • What do you mean "Curbie" parent? Are you referring to parents that are trying to find a cure for their autistic child? We have been looking for a cure for over 16 years and are now getting ready to head to a stem cell center in Panama. We have to worry about what will happen to Johnny if something happens to us. You don't look too screwed since you can speak and relate your feelings. We have to communicate with Johnny through scraps of paper even though his receptive language is very high.

  • You are exactly the kind of moron we need to be protected from. You are also the very reason why I spend six days out of seven wishing that I could make assholes like you spend a month experiencing the difficulties that you seem convinced I do not have. Ever been too scared to dose yourself with a synthetic hormone you need to live, despite how much pain you are in from not doing so? You are the reason I pity your child.

  • im so proud of you.

  • keep going in life buddy! keep trying your best and things would be good. =)

  • this is such a great video, thank you so much!!!

  • ive been recently diagnosed at 20 and ive now got a 1 yr old which i find hard i also have been raised by my mentel mum. its hard but im happy i can get help now.

  • I am not autistic and I feel the exact same way about public education--it's disgusting!

  • Thanks for posting this! You seem to be looking away from the camera a lot, do you find yourself avoiding eye contact often? I work with 2 year-olds and eye contact is something we target with them during sessions. Since they can't explain to us why they don't give eye contact, could you share what you feel when you do make eye contact? Does it make you uncomfortable or is it because you are focusing on something else?

  • Just imagine how many other details might be more important to me than your eyes for a second. A good example would be one's hands. Hands are far more likely to strike out at me in the midst of a statement than eyes could ever be.

  • Interesting, so while staring at other details such as hands you are still able to interpret information during a conversation? My understanding of what happens with the children I work with was that they are examining a detail so deeply that they tune out to whatever I am saying. I would guess it could also be that some examine everything so deeply that even if they were staring at your eyes they could still be tuning you out. Thanks for replying, this is very insightful!

  • ive had social problems for a long time. but recently i researched autism and it turns out i tick most of the boxes. surprisingly though i dont feel too bad about it.

  • Dean,, I was sitting on the edge of my seat holding on to each and every word of your experience of 'living with' Autism. Im a single mum of the most incredible little boy who has recently been diagnosed with Autism. He is only twenty four months old. It's very early days for us. Early intervention, speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychologists,, the list is never ending. In my eyes, my son is perfect just the way he is. (as you are by the way). Thank you for sharing your story!

  • I just thought I would point out that your son is still in a very early stage of development, so he will definitely change quite a lot in the coming years. What is important right now is to start identifying what specific needs he has in terms of education. Specialists in early social integration will be of the most benefit to him, as will interaction with other children who have commonalities with him.

I am contemplating shooting another video like this one.

  • Sometimes I wonder why its always "people" that have to change instead of making adjustments to society and our institutions. Conventional schooling isn't ideal for so many different types of kids. Even in typically developing children there have been multiple learning styles identified and yet only one basic learning style is focused on in schools. I wish our society was more accepting of different ways of being.

  • Here! Here!

  • Hey Gorgeous, My name is Adria and I am a 46 yr old Autistic. I so enjoyed watching your video, you explained so much that I haven't been able to explain. I felt that you were speaking for me too.

    Thankyou so much. <3

  • Sir, thank you so much for this video. I have a 28 year old fiance who has had almost the same experience as yours and I'm so glad to see that other people have had his same experience.

  • You are incredibly well-spoken. And I don't mean for someone with autism, but for anyone; you're very clever as well. I wish you all the best, and you should share your story in as many ways as possible. It's beautiful. God bless.

  • Hi, I love your video, my cousin has autism too and lately he's been complaining about bullies at school... He's only 13 and its so hard just seeing how upset he is about going to school. I really wish i could do something to help him. The other kids at school just don't understand how hard it is for him

  • you're very lucky to have the willpower to overcome your autism and speak out. This should be encouraged for all children with autism as it will probably help their development. This was a good video and elightening too.

  • I can't thank you enough for this video.

The Turtles' 1965 "Let Me Be" is the Autism Anthem. It is long past time adults on the spectrum were recognized as that is one demographic that is often overlooked.

In today's world, many adults are diagnosed. The advantage is if you are an Aspie, you can understand what you are contending with. The world is for EVERYONE and NOT just neurotypicals.

    thank you again!

  • So what is the problem then?

  • Thank you for sharing this video. My daughter was diagnosed at age 5 with PDD-NOS or more likely Aspergers. It was interesting to hear you have muscle difficulty, as she does also, and has very sloppy writing which her teachers are always bugging her about. It is hard for me to know what she can do better in, and what is just part of being her. She also loves to write. God Bless you !
