Very good cover... it's lost the atmosphere though. Couldn't really picture walking through a really grim brothel with this playing - a dodgy strip show maybe, but certainly not a gritty brothel.

Couldn't really read Sacher-Masoch to it either - pity.

The vocals in this version are great. But I do like the original better... The drifting in-and-out-of-dissonance better conveys of idea of the mixture of pain and pleasure. It makes me want to vomit in joy.

I agree. The great thing about Devotchka is that in all the covers they did, they always manage to make the music their own. Their cover over Siouxsie and the Banshees "Last beat of my heart" is also stunningly beautiful.
