Alcohol does not excuse any form of violence. If he chooses to drink and lay a hand on Blair, then it is abuse plain and simple. Please stop your ignorance and realize that it's not okay the way Chuck has treated Blair. It is not okay to cause your supposed love one to bleed.
I hate it when people say this is all about shipper wars. This is NOT about Chair and Dair. I am not even a Dair shipper i am a non-shipper but even I can see that this is clearly abuse, and the fact that the writers of this show want to make it seem like it's not is not only a shame, it is cruel.
there should be a step 10: find someone who would take care of you, make you tea when you enter his house, hold you close when you have a worry of losing everything with him responding, of course, "you'll still have me" and finally someone who is generally not abusive...sometimes i worry girls who ship chair may be in an abusive relationship themselves that's why they identify with chuck and blair's relationship. i hope not.
God, are we all of a sudden forgetting that Gossip girl is a TV show? And not a good-natured TV show at that. It's supposed to be like this but I detest that this is abuse because Chuck hardly hit her at all. And he was drunk. Gossip girl is all about the scandal that crowds Manhattan. If this happened in real life then I would understand. But it's GOSSIP GIRL. so no.
@groovestufs Yes he did. He sexually assaulted her ( kissing her neck when she said 'no' 'its over' etc) and then pulled her to him, and then pushed her onto the couch. I'm not EVEN going to get into the emotional/verbal abuse.
Chuck isnt abusive and either there relationship! Chuck wanted to marry blair but she choose louis. So chuck was mad and when she came he tought she choose him but no so he punched the glass and it hit her. Plus after the season finale she didnt seem to care bout that. And all you "Dair" fans never going to happen that would just ruin the show even though they had something doesnt mean theyre perfect toegether and their relationship would never reach what chuck and blair have! So chair ftw! Ch
Chuck and Blair do not have an abusive relationship in my opinion he was angry and heartbroken and hit the window in a rage he has never hit Blair the glass hit her by an accident. Also at the party where he says that she is embarrassing people hes trying to convice her not to marry someone else so I honestly dont see how this is an abusive relationship.
I'm so glad that you used Chuck and Blair as an example, their's is one of the most abusive relationships on TV and some people still try and pretend that it's not.
I don't think the fact that Chuck abuses her bothers me as much as the writers say it isn't abuse. An SL where they deal with abusive relationships would actually be pretty interesting and if they dealed with it correctly it could possibly teach girls about those kinds of relationships but the fact that they just ignored the fact that this kind of relationship is dangerous infuriates me, girls will watch this and think it's completely okay because they say that its fine
This is what people don't understand. Characters are just characters!! When we see murder on tv no one say it's okay, or it is not murder. It's considered bad by everyone. However according to Chuck fans and amazing writers, that wasn't abusive. Can you imagine a girl in real life with a similar relationship thinking it is not abusive??
thank you for this video, its gorgeous! and come on chuck has always been an asshole and just because everybody wants him to end up with blair they're all like 'oooh hes changed, blair changed him' BLAH BLAH BLAH, obviously he did not change at all.
K, I'm not saying this isn't abuse, but this is a show and the way that they express their characters is the way that artists paint images: with their own opinions and beliefs.
I've gone through many shows where the character I LOVED was twisted into something wrong because of the writers, and that's happened to Chuck. The pilot episode was drawing his character heavily from the books and in an antagonistic light, but then they changed him into the Chuck Bass we love.
@GCGCGymnast98 they do have a point.. lets forget chuck. Whats not right is for girls to have it stuck in their subconscious that it is tolerate experiences like these.. :|
@GCGCGymnast98 Yes it is. One that MANY little/teenage girls watch and get the message that this is 'okay' and 'not abuse' and that is just terrible. Gossip Girl (although I used to watch it and now re-watch season one and two) sends an AWFUL message. (Like being an attempted rapist = attempted kissing bandit)
You also have to look on the sunny side of the matter: Chuck didn't hit Blair he hit a window and gave her the most picturesque wound in the history of tv. That's not abuse, it's accidentally letting glass fall on her. Boohoo. He could have hit her, for better ratings and all... Jk jk

This is hilarious!!!! Hahahaha! The best part is the fact that people are arguing about if Chuck abused Blair or not. A. ITS A SHOW!!!!! B. It's ridiculous how far "Dair" fans are taking this. "Dair" will not and has not ever happened. It's also sad that a lot of people who indicate they are being abused are watching this. Delete it. Its pathetic beyond reason.
GG is a show which means things are going to be over dramatised.Chuck thought he had lost everything, and to top it off, Blair comes and drops the ultimate bomb! How do people think Chuck would react? he's angry OBVIOUSLY, and when she said "Chuck, Stop" he did immediately and instead took his frustration out on the WINDOW, not Blair, you people should be supportive of him AND everyone just bails on him, it's so sad.
@quicksand241 First of all, if you can't hold your drink, you shouldn't be drinking anyway. Secondly, being drunk and going through shit is no excuse to hurt her. We all go through major shit, but that's no excuse to lay a hand on someone. There is never an excuse.
I understand what you are trying to say but this is a TV show where most things are over dramatized. The audience should be able to separate fact from fiction in that even though Chuck/Blair work on TV they should never want to date him in real life. In 4x20 Chuck was not romantic but he was not being abusive or trying to rape Blair. What he did was wrong yes but he is not an abusive boyfriend. Blair and Chuck are both destructive and they work together in TV which is what this is. Fictional TV
@MizDIVA101 Chuck is an abuser, that "punch" episode is just one of the many moments Chuck has shown this kind of behaviour. For example when he sold Blair for the hotel he emotionally manipulated her and then blamed her for what she did. And it may be only a show but the writers are trying to romanticize it and tell us that what we're seeing (abuse) is not true (a famour e! online interview), so it's a good thing that at least some people call Chuck for what he is.
It's a SCRIPTED television show, not real life. I'm also pretty sure the writers and producers have more of a clue about what these scenes really mean than some young adult viewer.
@loveitalwaysyeah unfortunately, the executive producer came out and said that it shouldn't be seen as abuse. If he had came out and said that it was I don't think people would be this mad
I hope some of the die hard fans of Chuck and Blair can view this with an open mind. I'm just shocked when I read comments by girls stating that the tortured games are "romantic". Some people were actually excusing Chuck's attack on Blair as just "losing his cool".
Life experiences eventually show you that putting up with some guy's shit is not love. You don't marry the bad boy that strings you along. You want a dependable and respectful husband that loves you and can help with the dishes.
@alrightypewriter I love this comment, I wholeheartedly agree. Unfortunately, from the very beginning Gossip Girl has been telling girls the direct opposite of that. For example, Nate is a perfectly decent guy and a sweet boyfriend, but why do Nate and Blair end up breaking up? Because they "don't have a spark." The show has placed all this emphasis on having "a spark" at the expense of having a healthy relationship. If this is what "sparks" look like, I'd take the "boring" guy anyday.
nate also never truly loved her, understand her. He was more into serena. He was real nice. I think he's worse then chuck. Chuck owned his bad boy behavior.
oh please, you're an idiot if you think this doesn't affect girls. A TV show like gossip girl is watched by many teenage girls and it's popular ENOUGH to convey messages like it's ok to act like Chuck because "he's so in love with her." Abuse is abuse. Fuck that.
