  • As an atheist, I used to feel frustrated whenever anyone brought up the topic of religion. Until I saw this. David Mitchell, I love how you think. This made me laugh, and then made me really think, questioning everything I learned doing a Religious education GCSE

  • I love how these English talk shows are intelligent, interesting, and funny.

  • Religions may be belief systems that is mostly based on lies and uncertainties, but so are politics. So if you're a true atheist you shouldn't vote!

  • @luminous2341 even richard dawkins isn't a "true athiest", true athiest believe god does not exist under faith that there is no god,(which is stupid to state befcause the'll never be evidence for or against) they don't fight against beliefs, only truths and facts. Like a scientist you should analyse every party and then disregard the shittiest one. personally the only party I havn't disgarded is Labour and UKIP

  • @luminous2341 That is such an illogical and idiotic suggestion. What about politics is lies and uncertainties?

  • @TheSparchitect don't get your panties in a twist. It was mostly meant to be humorous and not a provacative statement. I based it of a wellknown prejuidice, that all politicians are liars and that they don't keep their promises.

  • I like to think that if there is a god, he would reward the atheists for their skepticism and not being mindless drones!

  • I like his eye twitch when he says "wrong"

  • What's the pattern on Alan's shirt? mewants it!

  • Heaven for only atheists, life was a test, not of faith, but rather of intelligence.

  • Can some generous person put subtitles on it? Or explain me what David Mitchell say between 0:43 and 1:00 (I think so)?? Please!!! Sorry, I have hearing problems =s

  • @superdtd69

    He said:

David: If there's a third option, and there is an afterlife and that you only get to go to it if you're an Atheist.

Stephen: Ohhh I like that one, that's an amusing one!

David: because you get all the Christians - dead! and then a load of bitter Atheists going, "and worse of all, I was wrong!"

Stephen: they've got all eternity to worry about it...

David: Yeah, exactly... with these lovely angels offering them cream cakes.. yeah sod off!

    C: ~

  • @CarrotVirus

    Thank you very much!!!

  • @superdtd69 You're very welcome ^ ^

  • @CarrotVirus Well done! That was so nice of you :)

  • @NegusNegest C: Thank you!

  • "From the end of season compilation episode of QI's "G" series." Yeah..you could just say the NAME of the episode. Now I'm going to have to look up series G on wikipedia... Thanks a LOT.

  • David Mitchell is a legend.

  • i like how David Mitchell's version of heaven has cream cakes in it

  • one thing i don't get about religion is when people say "how can you believe there is now god". I usually reply saying they don't believe in any other god so i just belive in one less than they do

  • @TMOMFXD

And boy are we all sick of hearing that one.

  • You safer just not believing in any god and seeing what happens lol

  • @StereOasis93 Atleast then you can explain to bhudda about how you didn't have any evidence, so you stuck to your morals and decided to wait and see.

I think any omnipotent being would appreciate that.

  • There are in fact a thousand options, as which god should you believe in? it's not enough just to believe, you have to follow their rules and explicitly worship them.

  • Thing is, you can't just tell people you believe in god and you will. It's not something you just decide.

You have to physically be mentally deficient.

  • When people say that evolution is only a theory, it gives me hope. Hope that maybe they feel the same way about, you know, the theory of gravity. And maybe they'll float the fuck away.

  • @feelalive00 Tim Minchin? :')

  • I have only 2 problems with creationists. 1 is that they lack any sense of scale, and 2 is that They understand little to nothing about science.

  • its comedy , why u wasting time arguing over evolution , even if evolution was wrong ,it still doesnt prove a god , well , not a biblical one anyway.

  • I don't think I've ever heard anyone say "sod off" so venomously.

  • Oh, the bliss if theres nothing...the highest thinkable being, is not being...oh the hope for such bliss is my highest hope but you dont get it guess...try...please try...and then relax the whole issue at that, at nothing...are you able?

  • Hah! I've seen this argument made before, that there lies a possibility that there's a perverse God who only allows atheists into heaven. The Pascal's Wager is flawed in so many ways that I can't honestly take it seriously. Great video, nonetheless.

  • Haha I came up with that theory too;)

  • David Mitchell to the purest!

  • What does 'Best Pole Dance Move Ever' have to do with this video?

  • @danflyer22 absolutely nothing at all..!

..somehow still glad it's there though..

  • And another thing, if all the Christians were dead who the fuck would we debate in youtube comments!?

  • @dragonforce525 Oh shit, I hadn't thought of that.

  • @dragonforce525 Ourselves. For once we'd have honest and good debates instead of reason trying to break down the wall of bias and lies.

  • @dragonforce525 What a horrible time spent...

  • @dragonforce525 I wish i could thumbs up twice!

  • Comment removed

  • @dragonforce525 9/11 twoofers are almost as much fun, they seem to be immune to logic too.

  • @dragonforce525 if something, like debating would be rendered foolproof universe would provide a better fool in an instant. strangely enough, the number of madmen has always stayed even through the decades.

  • @dragonforce525 Hari Krishnas.

  • @dragonforce525 muslims, scots, americans, basically any group, country or religion that has a chip on their shoulder. Why are we christians the butt of everyones jokes? Is it because we're the religion that wont try to blow you up or hold racist demonstrations if you insult our god?

  • @MrTheAntman You've clearly never heard of Draw Muhammad Day, a very recent event started in 2010 when muslims threatened death to anyone who drew their prophet Muhammad, people were encouraged to draw a picture of Muhammad and upload it to the web, my contribution was in the form of a video which you can watch by clicking on my username. It's not that we consider your religion any more or less a threat, it's that most atheists were raised in a Christian environment.

  • @dragonforce525 my god you make it sound like ur conducting a war on us for our beliefs, "it's not that we consider your religion any more or less a threat".

  • @MrTheAntman Sorry, I just meant that it has nothing to do with who's bombing who, but more to do with how the majority of atheists were raised, I was raised a Christian so know more about it, so it's instinctively my go to religion when discussing the pros and cons of theism. I probably should have worded it better.

  • @MrTheAntman We don't like it when theists want legislation against abortion a same sex marriage based on a book written by desert roamers and marauders that has no evidence to support it other than itself. How can you believe a book that doesn't even mention the Chinese empire?

  • @MrTheAntman On the contrary, a lot of Christians are very violent and racist and self righteous if they feel they are being mocked even slightly. And sometimes even when they aren't, and just need an excuse to be arseholes.

  • @MrTheAntman hah "won't hold racist demonstrations if you insult our god", thats a good one

  • @dragonforce525 yeh cant have one without the other

  • @dragonforce525 nazis =/

  • @dragonforce525 each other over everything else that isn't regarding the existence of a god.

  • @dragonforce525 scientologists, duh

  • @dragonforce525 Muslims? Scientologists? Followers of the Invisble Pink Unicorns?

  • @dragonforce525 Its not a debate if they don't have a chance.

  • @dragonforce525 Muslims.

  • that would be so hilariously ironic!!!

  • Atheists, we're just never happy...

  • Gotta love David Mitchell...

  • which episode is that? someone tell me please? :)

  • i would pay david mitchell good money just to come into my house and complain about things

  • Wow, the top comments are from the exact worst kind of atheist.

  • @ofrichmahogany The most correct kind :)

  • Pretty stephen :)

  • "And worst of all, I was wrong." I love his face when he says that.

  • For everyone calling people stupid for believing in an afterlife, why aren't you stupid for not believing in one? Is there some secret proof that God does not exist? Proof that only atheists know of? Why is believing there is a God any more stupid than believing there is not a God?

  • @HunterSTomsn you xcant prove a negative...

you cant prove god exist so i dont need to prove he doesnt... end of discusion

  • @henryhenriquez There is no actual proof of any of the theories of creation/evolution. So if you believe any of that you are considered stupid?

  • @HunterSTomsn any proof? a banana is proof. speed evolution. dogs were wolves we evolved them to dogs.

    carbon dating.

    dinosuars bones.

    your dead wrong.

you are considered stupid if you dont know the basics of evolution and physics.

    bacteria is proof.

you haver no proof. while i have TONS of proof

  • @henryhenriquez Carbon dating has been proven inaccurate. If you take 2 items from the same time period carbon dating often times will date them millions of years apart. Dinosaur bones? All that proves is dinosaurs existed. That is not proof of how they got here. Bacteria is proof? Because several thousand generations of bacteria lead to a small mutation? Mutations happen all of the time. That is no proof of evolution. You expect me to believe humans evolved from a slime? I need actual proof.

  • @HunterSTomsn can your prove carbon dating is inacurate since its pretty acrate unles you read only retarded religious people comments with no scientific facts to back up their claims.

mutation is proof retard. its called natural selection.

    or human manupilation.

if a mutation is beneficial it will pass on to more thus making the species better and different after enough mutations the species is no longer the same species and cannot reproduce with the other species. thus a new one.

  • @henryhenriquez Did you forget to mention they pass on the non beneficial mutations also? I feel like I am talking to a child. You are not as smart as you think. Why does everyone with google at their fingertips think they are a scientist. You obviously don't have a clue what you are talking about. Not even worth arguing with. The stupidest people in the world are the ones who they they have it all figured out.

  • @HunterSTomsn the ones who believe 2 thousand year old books are more retarded in my opinion...

    and not scientific tested facts.

agian you have NOTHING to back up your religion. nothing.

and i already showed you proof.

yet you deny it... typical religious retard lol.

believing a guy 2000 years ago knew the origin of life.. lol

  • @HunterSTomsn Proof that it doesn't exist ? That's why the Flying Spaghetti Monster is such a good explanation, can you prove me that it doesn't exist ? No, are you stupid for not believing in it ? No ? Are you for do believing in it ? Perharps ? Just as Christianity ;)

  • @ItsRG4M3R My question was why is believing in unproven evolution any different than believing in unproven creation. Evolution is just a far fetched. There is a better chance I could tear my computer down to thousands of pieces, throw all of those pieces in the air and having them land so I have another working computer. You don't think it requires some faith to believe that?

  • @HunterSTomsn so your ignoring everything i said,,, lol.

    typical religious retard.

once they get trown with facts they go lalalalalalalalal cant hear ya..

    lol so funy.

    evolution far fetch..

agian dogs, and most of our food our a result of speed evolution by humans.

and agian. we have fosils to prove it bones from our ancestors

  • @henryhenriquez I said you were not worth arguing with. I'm done with you. You said some things that prove you are a fool. The reason I don't argue with a mentally challenged person is the same reason I won't argue with you. Good day.

  • @HunterSTomsn mentally challenged??

    lol

the guy who believes a book written 2000 years ago by barbarian are a far more trustworthy then today scientist.... ahahahahhaha you make me lol you retard.

  • @HunterSTomsn There is an utter mountain of evidence supporting evolution. It can be seen through fossil records, we've observed it in short-life insects in laboratories, the genome, our similarities with apes, bananas (although often used to prove creation, they started out as blue irregular things before variation made them yellow). It requires zero faith, only logical thinking. If there is overwhelming evidence then it is foolish to disregard it. However, stay skeptical.

  • @HunterSTomsn

" unproven evolution" HAHAHAHAHAHAHA . You idiot, Evolution is proven, fact.

  • @gazzthompson no it is not my assumption is that you belive that animals evolved throught thousands of mutations, which would indicate taht the mutations are adding information to the dna of the animal causing it to evolve. Well proven science has showen taht mutations can never add information only take it away, so how was the new information added to dna causeing evolution?

  • @onyo101 Information adding to DNA makes no sense and has nothing to do with evolution. You clearly have no idea what your talking about.

  • @gazzthompson really you clearly know nothing then cause your dna tells your cells how and what they are supposed to do. you clearly know nothing do some research before you say anything cause you are the one saying evoltion is fact yet you dont even know the basic information on how it works glad you klnow about a what you belive

  • @onyo101 Evolution is FACT it has been observed on ALL levels. You want to talk about DNA? what about the fact universal genetic code? All cells on Earth, from our white blood cells, to simple bacteria, to cells in the leaves of trees, are capable of reading any piece of DNA from any life form on Earth.more facts ? The fossil record. more facts ? Genetic commonalities more? Common traits in embryos what more? Bacterial resistance to antibiotics! these are ALL evidence of evolution.

  • @gazzthompson Evoltion is not fact it is a theory, and adaptation has been observed on all levels not evoltion. and they are not capalbve of reading any DNA. DNA is waht determains how your cells come togeather. you are saying things are facts that are not i have used scientific facts, that i can refreance for you if you would like. were as you have not given any facts to counter what i have said you are just giving examples of adaptions and calling it facts

  • @onyo101 You have no idea what DNA is, information in DNA is stored as a code made up of four chemical bases. The order, or sequence, of these bases determines the information available for building and maintaining an organism, similar to the way in which letters of the alphabet appear in a certain order to form words and sentences. But this is all not needed when talking about Evolution. I have provided you with scientific examples:Bacterial resistance to antibiotics is EVOLUTION , just 1 e.g

  • @gazzthompson DNA as you just said is what gives the information for your cells to know how they go to gether it is the basis of evolution that the DNA changed to have a change in the organisms. and what you are saying is that when humans get a vaccination they are evolving because now they are immune to a virus or disease. the only difference is they trait is passed on because of how bacteria reproduce.

  • @onyo101 Please read about how the immune system works before debating about it. Also, both you and gazzthompson should rethink holding a debate via youtube comments.

  • @onyo101 In science the term "Theory" is any framework that connects otherwise dissconected observations. As such the terms "fact" and "theory" in science are not mutually exclusive.

e.g. The fact that the planets orbit the sun is a scientific theory

  • @bradkey98765 thats correct. but then a theory gains overwhelming evidence (like say a repeatable experiment that everyone can do or documented pictures) and then becomes science fact.

so like the planets orbiting the sun, it was theory, until we got pictures that they do in fact revolve around the sun, therefore, its a fact.

then we get stuff like the speed of light, which was a fact, until some boffins discovered that neutrinos started arriving early which indicated they were going FTL.

  • @airsoftmanic The simplest definition of a theory (in science) I can give is “an explanation of observations”. Even if a theory becomes a fact, it is still an explanation of observations and therefore still is a theory.

As for the Neutrinos going faster than light, there are a few good explanations for this. E.g. The articles “1110.2685” and “1110.0241” on arxiv dot org, I am also unconvinced since particles moving faster than light should emit further particles as they travel.

  • @bradkey98765 i am well aware of this if you read what i wrote, he is saying that Evolution is a fact were as it is not it is a theory that has facts that support it but it is not conclusive therefor it is not a fact but a theory.

  • @onyo101 You seem to be saying, it is not a fact so it's a theory. When actually somthing can be a fact and a theory, and somthing can be a theory and not a fact. In the case of evolution it is both a theory and a fact.

  • @onyo101 Evolution has been observed, it is a fact

  • @SirCorrino evolution from apes to humans is what i was referencing and it has been proven as a fact that it is not possible for that to happen information would have to be added to the dna through mutation, and proven with science no information has ever been added to dna through mutation so if you have another way of causing things to evolve let me know

  • @onyo101 I have a feeling you get your information from creationist websites, if you look into the matter you will find plenty of examples of DNA mutations that add information. I can’t really list them here because of the character limit, but If you google “Talk origins information” and click the first link, they have a list of credible references you can check if you want.

  • @onyo101 Oops, "Talk origins Information add" and click the first link even.

  • I'd like to see a skit of this.

  • Shock horror there's a religious debate in the comments.

  • @aaron9099

Yes, who would have expected a religious debate in the comments of a video on Pascal's Wager?

  • I love this clip soooo much. David is brilliant! x

  • come one, it's not even worth giving a minute to the thought "if god were a judge in the sky".. it's just an idea, a very bad and self-incongruent idea that only caught on people of incredible stupidity and gullibility.. it became a part of our culture well before we understood that germs cause disease and that cells make up our body, and that atoms are a fundamental physical unit.. religion is like a cult based on the poorly written manuscripts of a few men who could read, write and manipulate

  • what if the god you believe in isnt the god!

  • A few problems here:

    1. god would be able to tell the phonies!

    2. if god was truely just & loving, he would not care if you didn't believe, but only that you were a good person!

    3. Burn in hell forever? a loving god does not torture, has anybody ever heard the phrase "the punishment should fit the crime"? come on! at best, hell should be like jail, i.e. there's no torture & it does NOT last forever! & if you've already paid your debt to society, there's no need to be punished a second time!

  • i would rather spend an eternity in hell for not believing in something unproven, rather than live an eternal blissful afterlife with something that allowed all the disgusting stuff that has occured on this planet.

  • this is great because its funny and tears apart pascals wager, you could say that about most things but there's a greater chance there isn't afterlife so you may as well live your one life to your principles and way of thinking!

  • @Tess8040 His comment was meant as a passive-aggressive swipe at believers. Sod off.

  • @ThehigherVoltage....to say that you hope there is a Heaven for us Christians is very noble of you......but do you not realise that all this doesn't exclude you? If there is a Heaven and Hell (as you don't want to believe) you will still go to hell if you don't believe in Jesus Christ. It's not as if because you're an atheist this doesn't apply to you!!!! It applies to everyone on this planet. And before you tell me I'm arrogant, just think about it.

  • @Tess8040 Well I believe that Atheists and Pagans of the Germanic religions are going to Valhalla and you evil monotheists are going to Helheim. So shove that up your Pascal's wager!

  • @GodsGayLover you believe im going to "valhalla" first off im not really a halo fan and second off its good thats not going to happen then isnt it

  • @TheGRAclan 1. Only a Halo nerd would make some unfunny joke about Valhalla being something in a computer game. 2. Valhalla would be an awesome place to go if it existed, the only people who would hate it are Christians, Jews and Muslims but won't ever go there.

  • @GodsGayLover No....valhalla is for those who died in combat. Meaning you would have a higher chance of getting into valhalla/ folkvangr if you were a suicide bomber.

  • @Tess8040 oh, sod off! :P

  • @pcvideogamer Why wear a seat belt? Because even if you're completely unafraid of death, there are a LOT of non-fatal injuries which can be prevented by a seat belt. You're going to have to come up with better arguments than that if you want to sound smart.

  • @SBFloppie

actually the religious have answered your question many times before. If by some chance the hapless chap suffers from an injury in a non fatal car crash, it's just god's plan. Plain and simple. He works in mysterious ways. Following that line of thought to it's ridiculous conclusion, wearing a seat belt would actually mean you're rebelling against god.

Kinda like if, i dunno, noah had made a couple of spare boats for his friends, "just in case"

  • @pcvideogamer You're meant to live this life by preaching The Word of God and living a good life.

  • @TweekDash yes of course understood, i used to be a Christian myself, but i wonder, doesn't it bother you worshiping the Egyptian 'sun' god all the time?

  • @pcvideogamer Doesn't bother me.. I've been agnostic for 11 years and 99% atheist for 2.

Why do you talk of the Egyptian Sun God?

  • @TweekDash oh sorry i thought you were a christian still, doesn't matter.

  • @pcvideogamer Wow, way to go to extremes. Yeah, I'm sure God would want you to kill yourself and not make a good mark on this world, that you shouldn't be working hard, being good to people. etc. Seriously /sarcasm.

  • @pcvideogamer dont know how uptodate you are with the religous bulshit but its kinda a sin for them to kill themselves.

  • @1xlottiex1 Thanks for the heads up, but i used to be one... an evangelical Christian that is, the 'barb' of belief was sunk deep within my psych when i was vulnerable and after some years i came away and removed the barb by myself and i now know that what they actually do is sucker us all into thinking that kindness and the sympathetic nurturing caring nature of all humans is somehow exclusive to their religion, by default we are good people, they just hijack that state in the name of Jesus...

  • @1xlottiex1 (cont...) also they had to develop something called an 'Alpha' course not to bring in more worshipers but to inform the already established 'flock' (their own people) about the nature of Christianity itself because many didn't have a clue what it was really all about, most were just singing and being charitable to people mostly, fair enough.. but what they didn't tell you on the Alpha course which i helped teach myself about ten times was the meaning behind the word "Amen" (cont...)

  • @1xlottiex1 Amen...Ra!, ( the Egyptian 'son' god) - see what i did there? :) - sun/son.. bringer of light blah blah, it's all Egyptian mate, we borrowed (or rather stole and made the rest up) the lot from ancient Egyptian philosophy and do you know why? to keep the proletariat in line, give them something to think twice about when they stole or raped or whatever (in times of old) today we use CCTV :) Back then it was called Clandesdine-Christians-Terrorizing-Vulnerables... :) cheers

  • @pcvideogamer cool i am a roman catholic christan, (who kinda isent cheering on the bench) but i swear before any other religons started like 70% of the world was pagen, at one point?? And true but in order to keep the working class in line that would mean that we would have to live in a capitalist society, so yeah thats correct :) (im a postmoderinst) :)

  • @pcvideogamer Trying to call every single Christian a creationist is a generalisation. And really, who are you to tell people what they can and can't believe?

  • @eiffel0108 sorry for the generalization but even among yourselves you cannot agree so i just throw you all into the 'whatever' box and move on... oh and believe what you want, wear a traffic-cone on your head and paint it pink if you like makes no matter to me, just don't try and palm it off to the rest of us as 'truth' by spreading the word or by being evangelical... thats sort of trying to tell people what to believe isn't it?

  • @pcvideogamer Neither can all atheists. I wasn't trying to tell you the believe what I believe - I don't have a problem with atheism, it's what you want to believe and that's fine. But that goes for what I believe - trying to tell me that something isn't true, or that what I'm believing is wrong isn't fair and you're only doing what Christianity did during the middle ages.

  • @eiffel0108 so i killed like christianity did in the middel ages???

    no....

i simple tell logic. if you wish to believe it is your choice. im not holding a gun to your head. unlike you christians did in the middel ages.

you just have to accep you believe in fairy tales...

when you deny in zues and all other gods, you understand why i deny yours...

  • @pcvideogamer suicide is a sin you fucking retard.

  • @yotakojima no, I've never fucked a retard in my life, that my friend... would be a sin!

  • @pcvideogamer You are demented for saying that.

  • @pcvideogamer I called you a fucking retard (not a person who fucks retards - which still isn't a sin). This statement [a fucking retard] can be interpreted in two ways:

    1. You are a retard [said in a belligerent manner]

    2. You are a retard who fucks.

Either way, you're still a retard, and from the way that you interpreted my original comment I'd say that this statement still right on the money.

  • @yotakojima and your a bitter troll... cya

  • @pcvideogamer and you're a retard ... bye. (Because you spelt "you're" wrong, amongst other things.)

  • @yotakojima whats your IQ? I'm a 43 year old programmer working for UK security services (7oxicty GCHQ) you have hang-ups over my spelling? look mate, your obviously under 25, frontal-lobe hasn't developed properly by the sounds of it... and all over my comment made a while back, must of touched a nerve, 44+ thumbs-up to... hmmm did it get under your craw? feeling a little psychologically fragile because of it? don't worry you'll get over it, good luck, be well.

  • @pcvideogamer I also hate that, people who resort to spelling mistakes because they don't have a real argument against you. Its like snubbing a person with a speech impediment in a debate, If Winston Churchill was snubbed then who knows what might of happened to Britain WW2

  • The only people who deserve an afterlife are those not stupid enough to believe in one.

  • @KapStuf Yeah, no heaven for the dumb-dumbs

  • I don't know why there is a big rant going on but I'll voice my opinion. All religions express the same thing, a belief in the afterlife. All men are born with and develop a strong fear of death and these religions are created to bring hope and justify their actions in life. They all also center around one great power which shapes the world around it, be it a god, an energy force or even multiple gods.

  • This doesnt compare in the least with American television. In America we have reality Tv, not smarty comedians going on about dead mathematicians. Why dont you Brits have our standards?

  • @ZombiBuddy are you being sarcastic? i can't tell

  • @goaterism Yeah, I didnt convey tone that well. This is actually one of my favorite shows.

  • @ZombiBuddy American comedy is shit. Reality TV sucks in every way possible, just a bunch of whining, arrogant assholes. This is a thing called banter were people talk about stuff properly, and add a bit of wit to it. This whole programme is fantastic.

  • @MrOrganicCarrot I am bad at sarcasm, I get it. Think critically for a second, if I liked my county's TV then why would I be watching British TV on youtube?

  • @ZombiBuddy I know I didn't spot the other comments, sorry mate. Also you can't really be sarcastic when you type a message.

  • @ZombiBuddy To enjoy all that is out there? I'm British and love British TV, but I still love to see TV from other countries as well :)

  • I keep an open mind - 'maybe there is, maybe there isn't - who am I to decide for certain?' Surely I win all 3 outcomes? 1) No afterlife = What do I care? I won't exist anymore to know! 2) There is an afterlife for believers = I kept a healthy open mind to the fact their could be an afterlife so God could surely allow me entry because I did not deny his existence I just took a belief in the world around me. 3) Atheist heaven = I didn't fully believe so surely I could sneak into this one?

  • The common analysis of Pascal's wager ignores the cost associated with believing that there is a god/afterlife when in fact there is not. People suggest that there is no cost to having belief in the afterlife regardless of its truth or falsity, but nothing could be further from the truth. Because those who erroneously believe in an afterlife often feel the need to convince others, a vast quantity of priceless time is wasted on arguing about the truth or falsity of said afterlife.

  • @jumperjess not to mention hours upon hours of sitting in a church praying and all the restrictions and laws you have to obey throughout life, which all make life itself less fun

  • @jumperjess when in fact there is not - how do you know ?

  • I've heard that argument before, One of my theology teachers at college answered it. In his words "God would rather honest disbelief over dishonest belief." He went on to say you had a better chance of being saved if you didn't believe and said so than if you lied about believing

  • but which god do you bet on?

  • Comment removed

  • @PimpMyParadigm the one with the coolest outfits

  • @LaserOrange VISHNU!!

  • pascal forgot that to win this wager, i have to live by their rules, which is less fun while im living.

since that chance is 100%, i will bet on no afterlife.

  • Well, thanks for being assholes and instead of coming up with yet more funny scenarios like David Mitchell, you just started slagging off a concept you have no respect for. Much obliged internet. I was going to suggest if Buddhism was right and when we die Buddha stands there and says "Well, who's pushing who around now" but you'd probably have one of those furious "I'm looking down at you" rants with cold anger. Oh and I'm actually an Atheist, I don't believe, but I can still be respectful.
