Did you notice that the boosters were falling whitout noise until the reach something like 20'000m ? Because there wasn't enough air to make any wind and noise.

I remember watching this live. I saw a launch ( I think the shuttle) from Buena Vista. One of the greatest moments of my childhood. The next time I saw the space shuttle was in my front yard if you believe it. It was leaving the space station, and the two dots were running across the sky. Truly amazing what these machines do.
