u shouldnt use heavy sowrds like the meat cleaver with him cuz if u miss a hit he might do his stupid push attack and him might throw u out the cliff so i think if u use a str8 sowrd like blueblood might be better :D
@MuffeCam i thought it was piss easy on NG then on NG+ its got interesting somethings seem easier cuz i have my strats down others seem pretty hard if it only increased by the same difficulty again each time by NG+++++++ i may have the challange i was led to believe awaited. Though i speak to soon that bitch with the meat clever in 5-1 might be a challange and some of the BP NPC'S selen garl and satsuki without cheap tactics could be fun

the game isn't that hard without it... i've beaten the game with multiple melee builds... i guess the only time i've felt that the game is super hard is when I had to do pure black WT with NG+.
When I fought Maneater, I had soul light, total protection, evacuate (not that I had to use it) and light weapon. I used the meat cleaver and enchanted it with light weapon and black turpentine. It worked just fine.
If you have the patience and a ton of arrows you can kill the first maneater before you go into the fog. Just go the the far right side of it, zoom in and fire away. Then you won't have to face 2 (not that you had to here)
You should have waited until the Maneater doubled over and started vomiting. Those snake tails give them powerful magic attacks, but cause them pain as well. He'll be immobilized and you can take him out with a single well-placed Firestorm then.
After you beat the Flamelurker takes it's soul to Ed the blacksmith at Stonefang, he'll let you upgrade weapons with other demon's souls, so basically after that just take a normal club and the Adjudicater's soul to him and it'll let you upgrade them into the meat cleaver.
I'm kind of disappointed that you say From Software's games are generally bad. The Tenchu series has only failed on the Wii, and that was a spin-off. Armored Core is STILL fun, even though they lowered the difficulty for the next-gen systems, and the online is... Well, it varies. It was fairly easy for me. I suppose they softened the players up.
Well sure, not all their games are bad, and in fact they tend to product great games recently (I want 3D Dot Game Heroes so bad :3), but from what I know most of them were only so-so or stuff like that, even if Eternal Ring and the King's Field serie is really tempting me now.

In fact, Firestorm is the best offensive spell of the game, and it's very effective against bosses, so yeah, you should really pick it up when you can. And it's also great in PvP (you nearly can't survive without it now, I mean espacially if there's also a magic user against you or someone with 50-100 more Soul Level than you).

i can deal 11000 dmg with 1 firestorm, and the maneaters only got like ½ of that in hp ;) thats also ng+
