I wish embedding hadn't been disabled. :| I was trying to share this on my FB but no one is looking at it because no one will watch on youtube if it doesn't play on my page.... seriously........ Stunning performance!
For those who enjoy performances by prodigies such as Sarah Chang, see the YouTube performance of this same piece by pianist Aimi Kobayashi when she was 8 years old. It is unbelievably beautiful. It makes one ponder how it is that young children like Aimi and Sarah (age 10 here) can have such a deep understanding of music. Aimi is now 15, has recorded two albums, has performed with orchestras around the world since age 11, and will be making her US professional debut in April at Carnegie Hall.
@thepromman I think I read somewhere that her parents didn't actually push her hard to practice. She did it on her own. I think that's plausible because she couldn't possibly have gotten this far without love for music and her violin. I believe she loves her job, and when you love doing something, it's not a huge chore to spend a lot of time doing it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think this kind of emotion and feeling is produced by parental pushing. :-)
@wwewesty Um.... you... really can't play an out-of-tune note on the piano unless the piano itself is out of tune.... What's far more amazing is that the violinist doesn't play out of tune.
...She's so young in this video, but her sound is already so mature..... To be honest, I'm a little sad - I think kids should try to retain the carefree-ness they have for as long as possible. Once it's gone, it's gone.
@wwewesty Wah~ I'm so sorry! I'm actually extremely prone to mistaking sarcasm where there is none and vice versa.
On a more serious note, although I've been playing the piano for quite a while now, I'm actually not too familiar with the mechanisms. Thanks for the golden nugget of knowledge! ^-^

@hotbebimauz Oh yes, I also hate to see pieces interpreted with various voices and expressions, or adapted so that a greater number of people can have the enjoyment of playing and retelling the story of a composition. People are so selfish and manipulative.
the violin she has now is a FULL size violin. The one she's using in this video is a QUARTER sized violin (1/4). It is a Del Gesu though. This was recorded when Sarah was 10 years old which would have been in 1990 or 1991 and she's currently 29.

I believe that prodigy's such as this are reincarnated souls continuing their mastery and love. That's why it's important to always learn and master in life, because it is never wasted.
I was a huge fan of Sarah in her childhood years, until I heard the Strauss sonata she recorded in her mid teens. At first I thought the piece was just boring, but later I heard other interpretations (esp. Heifetz's) and realized only then how great the piece could be.
I love it!

She raises her eyebrows when she senses she needs to raise a note a bit higher. When she hears she's played the sound right she also smiles. It's a result of having perfect pitch. I believe that prodigy's such as this are reincarnated souls continuing their mastery and love. That's why it's important to always learn and master in life, because it is never wasted.

Yehudi Menuhin ought to be credited here.
Even though the Chopin was arranged by Milstein, Menuhin was a very great child prodigy whose insights concerning Sarah are more than casual.
Her interpretation is truly lovely; no Strauss necessary!

You won't believe it, she was only 10 years old. This must be 1990.

I was a huge fan of Sarah in her childhood years, until I heard the Strauss sonata she recorded in her mid teens. At first I thought the piece was just boring, but later I heard other interpretations (esp. Heifetz's) and realized only then how great the piece could be.
