  • I love it!

  • Beyond beautiful! Being from planet Earth, I cannot understand how 12 people can dislike this.

  • 4:00 how breathtaking it looksso easy but it's not you have to put 35 notes in half a mesure And people that dislike please say why...

  • why couldnt i learn when i was young? god damn you mother for not getting me a violin!

still, never to late to learn :/ just have to try extra hard

  • i think sara is a very musical person!!! good for you!

  • espectacular, que hermoso

  • Pienso que ella toco esto mejor aqui, en esta presentacion, que despues de grande, pero de todas maneras, siempre ha tocado hermoso :) La admiro muchisimo.

  • @memevideosyay In the month that ahs passed since i posted that, I do realize I can't force my future children to be people they arrn't. I will simply show to them the wonders of music and ask them if they would want to learn how to play a instrument and make music, one of the most beautiful things on this earth that is proof that god exists, in my opinion. A good example of the child parent relationship involving instruments or "Progidys" can be found in Amy Tan's The Joy Luck club,a good book

  • I completely agree with everything Menuhin has to say. Also, Sara's playing is simply angelic. She is astounding!

  • When i have a daughter i am going to have her play the violin.

  • @ArthastheLichking93 same same !

  • What Menuhin said is true. I love you Menuhin!!!

  • I wish I could've met Yehudid Meuhin...... *sigh*

I'm going to work even harder to get as good as this!!!

  • What Sir Mehnuin said is so true.

  • Que perfección, como si el violín fuera parte de su cuerpo y lo hiciera sonar con el alma.

Que suerte que Sara haya nacido en esta era, donde podemos generar un registro fidedigno de su habilidad, como un regalo para el futuro.

  • I wish embedding hadn't been disabled. :| I was trying to share this on my FB but no one is looking at it because no one will watch on youtube if it doesn't play on my page.... seriously........ Stunning performance!

  • simply bewitching, how we have forgotten classical

  • For those who enjoy performances by prodigies such as Sarah Chang, see the YouTube performance of this same piece by pianist Aimi Kobayashi when she was 8 years old. It is unbelievably beautiful. It makes one ponder how it is that young children like Aimi and Sarah (age 10 here) can have such a deep understanding of music. Aimi is now 15, has recorded two albums, has performed with orchestras around the world since age 11, and will be making her US professional debut in April at Carnegie Hall.

  • Sarah Chang is way better when she was young...a real child prodigy :P God bless her!

  • i can play this on piano. so beautiful :)

  • Asians always have a astounding motivation! If only i had such motivation for my instrument...

  • @kittyburger000 actually, it's a combination of pure talent and parents' push.

believe me, my parents (i am asian) push me A LOT, and because of that, i am really good on violin as well, though not a prodigy :D

  • @thepromman I think I read somewhere that her parents didn't actually push her hard to practice. She did it on her own. I think that's plausible because she couldn't possibly have gotten this far without love for music and her violin. I believe she loves her job, and when you love doing something, it's not a huge chore to spend a lot of time doing it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think this kind of emotion and feeling is produced by parental pushing. :-)

  • @Nicolerev1412 ah, my bad. What i meant was the INITIAL push was given by her parents.

There is a saying: You can bring the horse's head to the water trough, but you cannot make it drink the water.

Obviously she was dedicated AND naturally talented, but, she never would have realized that if her parents hadn't enrolled her in violin lessons.

  • it is wonderful the way this girl plays. Almost unbelievable.

    leopoldo

  • she is so amazing! Famous!

  • wow thats her when she was young

  • i wish that i started violin as a kid. but i started last year at 22 lol..

  • @aceTL87

    I started to play at 21 ;]

  • Wow! The pianist didn't play a single out of tune note. Isn't he amazing?

  • @wwewesty Um.... you... really can't play an out-of-tune note on the piano unless the piano itself is out of tune.... What's far more amazing is that the violinist doesn't play out of tune.

...She's so young in this video, but her sound is already so mature..... To be honest, I'm a little sad - I think kids should try to retain the carefree-ness they have for as long as possible. Once it's gone, it's gone.

  • @wwewesty Wah~ I'm so sorry! I'm actually extremely prone to mistaking sarcasm where there is none and vice versa.

On a more serious note, although I've been playing the piano for quite a while now, I'm actually not too familiar with the mechanisms. Thanks for the golden nugget of knowledge! ^-^

  • beautiful! music that I feel deep inside of me. emotional strings that pluck at my heart.

  • I wish i had started the Violin years ago...this proves it *sigh* shes wonderful!

  • wow...i look for many violin player who play this song and she and that violin make me feel the song for real she good:)

  • I cant believe this is a child playing. Usually, kids can play very well techincally. But they often suffer from expressing it well. Not this girl. OMG, its unreal, but Im glad it is.

  • this woman is sooo amazing, i love her and her playing. but i thik that this beautiful nocturne belongs to the piano, not to the violin. that's not chopin. sorry!

  • @hotbebimauz Oh yes, I also hate to see pieces interpreted with various voices and expressions, or adapted so that a greater number of people can have the enjoyment of playing and retelling the story of a composition. People are so selfish and manipulative.

  • SUPERB!!!!

  • i love this piece. truly astounding

  • 素晴らしいの一言で、感激です。バイオリンの音色は、この曲にピッタリです。流石に世界一流のバイオリニストですね。

  • Wow! For me Sarah Chang is one of the world's best violinist. I love this piece .

  • I don't like this man about child when Sarah Chang existe...he is maybe jelous to her! Sarah Chang me fascine!

  • How beatiful she play...fascinating!

  • @gacktnhydeluv

alol... 6 years!!!i'm sorry!! that is sad! =)

  • @smiah777 the violin she's using right now is the 1/2 size violin that her teacher Dorothy Delay gave her, however it is not a del gesu.

  • OMG! she's incredible!! and she puts into her interpretation so much feelings!!

I wish I could play like that!!!

  • i really like her playing..but chopin simply doesn't work on violin...you can just tell. i'm not trying to be close minded.

  • i think violin fits better for this particular piece than piano........

  • @wxyj do you play piano?

  • @Therachh3

    no....

  • 6 years? Seriously?

  • SARAH so sad and sweet music, most talented adult girl! since then,

but her palying music never changed.

  • what violin is she using? that's not the del gesu she has now.. this one has a beautiful tone though :)

  • it's her 1/2 size

  • the violin she has now is a FULL size violin. The one she's using in this video is a QUARTER sized violin (1/4). It is a Del Gesu though. This was recorded when Sarah was 10 years old which would have been in 1990 or 1991 and she's currently 29.

  • Sarah Chang give as the deliciuos and delicate perfume of the sensual musica.

    Sarah enchant Me. Meravillous !!!!!!!!!!!

  • do u know where can i find the scores of this?pls

  • this come close to matching my favorite rendition of this piece by Itzhak Perlman gonna have to learn to play this one

  • How old was she in this video?!coz....she's just amazing...

  • omg, what a wonderful and precious video !

great and emotional performance of this masterpiece , Sarah is amazing ^^!

  • I never thought that a Violin Could Sound so Beautiful untill she stared to play ....

  • Wow, I've been playing violin for 4 years and I still don't know vibrato. But, I love my violin!

  • I've been playing longer than that and I haven't learned also. :( I've tried but I don't think I did it right.

  • Man I have never even heard her play a wrong note! not even ALMOST a wrong note! So Jealous! She's amazing!

  • I actually have....just one, in the Paganini violin concerto, which she played when she was TWELVE. She's definitely an amazing, amazing violinist!!

  • @azngeezer watch her live zigeunerweisen video, she makes a mistake there

  • Hard to believe this piece of music is played by a young girl. Very beautiful.

  • wow!! really good job!! beautiful sound!!!! awsome dinamics! its just BEAUTIFUL!!!

    R5

    Judge 1

  • it astounds me that in the presence of such beauty, we choose instead, as a society, to reward greed, and self-indulgence. this young girl is worth 1000 of you Lexus driving, hedge fund criminals.

  • I completely agree.

  • @callieland : who are you to judge? I can say that she is worth 1000 callielands.

  • @callieland awesome comment :)

  • @callieland one of the best comments to surface youtube in a while!

  • @callieland more like bmw and mercedes driving, hedge fund criminals.

  • @callieland Begs the question, how much does Sarah Chang make? For all we know, she's driving a Lexus, too.

  • @pablononescobar

The difference being that, if she does drive a Lexus, she's worth it, unlike the hedge funders who merely gamble with other people's money.

  • @callieland wtf does this have to do with running a hedge fund..everything is unique in its own way..whether its chopin. einstein, rand, or friedman..

  • beautiful

  • Precioso Precioso!

  • Very beautiful! Amazing! I wonder how old was she?

  • She raises her eyebrows when she senses she needs to raise a note a bit higher. When she hears she's played the sound right she also smiles. It's a result of having perfect pitch. Watch someone who has it when they listen. They'll stretch when the artist stretches to hit a note...and grimace when the note is flat...because to them it hurts.

  • I do the same thing!

As a violinist myself, I hear the pitches and grimace or smile according to how I play each note.

Of course, I've only been playing for two years and I'm twelve, so I'm nowhere NEAR as good as her,

    but I hope to be.

  • It's a good goal, and there is absolutely no reason that you can't be as good as Sarah Chang, or anyone else. Enjoy!

  • Sorry I'm a bit intoxicated, but even something as strong as alcohol cannot intoxicate me as much as listening to a young Sarah Chang play. Damn!!! Even my toenails tingled!!!

  • Comment removed

  • i noticed.......she raises her eyebrows several times during the piece! i guess that's her habit when she's playing violin?

  • thats when you know there is passion. open eyes open implement awareness of his/her playing, but if you have your eyes shut you see the notes, you see your melody in the heart, you play with the heart and thats when it turns into art and not just melody

  • I recognize and applaud all contemporary violinists, but Sarah Chang is my favorite!! I feel she speaks to me. It's an eerie feeling!!

  • omg!

  • Best interpretation I've ever heard

  • She cut her first album @ 1991(EMI), this recital must be done prior to that, if it was1990 she was 10 years of old (born on December 1980) unbelieveble !

  • andrew49247 Sir Yehudi Menuhin has every right to be pretentious when it comes to playing the violin being one the world's greatest violin virtuoso's

  • I remember watching these kind of performing when Shara was at that age. how lovely she was/is :)

thanks very much for sharing these great recordings.

  • youre the most pretentious sounding person ever

  • and obviously he is as sensitive as a stone...xD

  • And what's wrong with that!

  • child genius. i got chills up my spine listening to this.

  • wow! She's soo cuutee and brilliant!!

  • although chopin restricted himself most of the time in mastering only the piano and composing pieces for it, i think he would be happy to know that this piece was interpreted in another instrument and it sounds better and more melancholic in the violin.

  • She plays this song much nicer r than anyone on youtube......including all the older professional violinists, Aran Rosand, and Itzak Perlman.

She plays lucidly and with pristine honest outlook that adults cannot match as they have covered themselves with layers of falseo ego. Furthermore, she looksribly underage, which makes it so amazingly rare.

  • totally agree..exactly, she plays this particular piece better than anybody

  • This little girl make us grownups look like stupid. She plays beyond words.

  • Lovely Sarah... Beautiful performance.

Her violin looks small, is it a 3/4 or 1/2 size? I'm just curious.

  • Look at how small her arms are. It has to be1/2 size. I mean she can't be older than about 10 here. This video doesn't show it very well, but have you ever watched her face while she's playing? To hear her playing is one thing, but to see her... She's so expressive. I've noticed , as she got older, she came out of her shell more and felt freer to be expressive and move around while she's playing.....I'm rambling ;)

  • in one of the other clips of this concert the narrator says it is 1/4 size violin but i think the bow is 1/2 size.

  • She's not a robot, she puts so much energy and feeling into it, it's more than enjoyable to listen to. Amazing performance. Absolutely Brilliant!

  • I believe Sara is a beautful phenomenon

  • wow... how is she not a prodigy... to play like that.... at such a young age...

  • Omg as my username suggests I'm a chopianist and play this every night before goin to bed!! I didn't realise he composed it for violin!! Inssanity!!!

  • It's the arrangement for violin. Chopin composed pretty much exclusively for the piano. ;)

  • It was transcribed for violin by Nathan Milstein.

  • What can I search for to download the violin version???

  • Although Sarah is now a beautiful young woman, I saw her live a year ago, some part of me wishes she had remained a child. I geuss just the sight of a child with such uncanny genius, this piece inparticular, it's so much in the emotion, passion imparted by her, a genius!

  • This is so very beautiful, thanks so much for posting this wonderful video!

  • the sound quality is not good, can u upload a HQ one please? tnx

  • Beauuuuuuuutiful baby,absolutely beautful i love her ;)

  • wow a prodigy, I really want to play the violin.... My school doesn't have an orchestra though, and my parents are too poor. This song displays so much emotion in it, it makes me want to cry.. Chopin is the best

  • Beatifull!!! 5 stars Do you know where can I find the sheets (scores) for this piece? I really want to learn it !

  • WOW

  • Where can I find the partiture of this piece? Please help me!

  • this is the song chopin composed for violin but people forgot to warn him about that.

  • hermosa interpretacion, y ella tambien es hermosa (tomando encuenta que lo digo por que ahorita ya esta grande)

  • Beautiful..the notes just tug at your heartstrings in such an aching way, esp at 3:38-3.40.. I definitely love listening to this piece on violin than piano.. maybe it's the vibrato that gives it a more human-like emotion. I'm not xplaining myself really well here. Lol

  • i think the violin is a little small for her.but anyway great playing!such a talent =]

  • that old man is talking bull crap. the violinist is close to perfect. since theres no such thing as perfect.

  • sound is natural and very very soft. sweet wow

  • that is so not fair. D:

  • what nocturne is this....

  • The full name is:

Chopin's Nocturne No. 20 in C-Sharp Minor, Op. posthumous (arranged by Nathan Milstein)

  • best version of this song ....i think

  • Wonderful musicality, genious, Sarah!!

  • when I was ten I couldn't play the violin like this but i made an awesome mud pie.

  • haha rofl :P, i could lick my nose... but since then my nose and tongue have grown apart :(

  • funny :P i was never able to lick my nose w/ my tongue

  • unbelievable!! i just can't believe it..

  • It is touching!! So naturally played!!

  • Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I believe that prodigy's such as this are reincarnated souls continuing their mastery and love. That's why it's important to always learn and master in life, because it is never wasted.

  • really beautiful music!

  • wow!she's awesome 5*****

  • wow ME ENCANTÓ!!! quiero aprender a tocar violin :(

  • yo lo estoy sacando en guitarra

  • I think Chopin would love that.

  • wow shes so young

  • Yehudi Menuhin ought to be credited here.

Even though the Chopin was arranged by Milstein, Menuhin was a very great child prodigy whose insights concerning Sarah are more than casual.

Her interpretation is truly lovely; no Strauss necessary!

  • wow simply speechless

  • how old was she when she did this?

  • You won't believe it, she was only 10 years old. This must be 1990.

  • wow. i love this particular recording...

  • excellent tone and intonation.unbelievable

  • Listen to Sarah do Strauss, then someone else.

  • Dare to compare.

  • ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

its sounds really good in violin (Y)

    awesome

  • I have always said the same thing. Cute as a Kalachki, too huh?

  • I didn't see this video....ahhhhhhhhhhhh Novemebr 9th. You know, she already has the class at this age, and she is a horse-hair away from autonomic.

  • Amazing. thank you for up loading.
