Next upgrade will include AESA radar.
Common development should decrease the cost of evolution and production, unfortunately it causes time stretch from design to production.
@BitnikGr EF is always half- or one step behind. Today it can be named and aknowledged as one great multi-role platform, but in term of air superiority it is clearly not the best.
It needs new RAM for decreasing a RCS, more powerful engines for supercruise, AESA radar and new missiles maybe. By time it will get all this, new development will occur again.
So many efforts and means spent in order just trying to catch up, but never actually being in lead of the pack. :(
um i hate to break it to you mate, but the eurofighter has and always has had supercruise, and from what ive read they sold it to the americans, the original f18 didnt have supercruise but the super hornet does.
New developments have always occured which is why unless there is a war you dont mass produce planes or anything for that matter. If/when there is a war, the EF is cheaper and prob quicker to make (i def know about the less expensive part, time im not sure)

I think we should give Israel some F-22s because I enjoy seeing what they do with their aircraft. As far as the Eurofighter goes, I think it is probably one of the best dogfighters in the world but that is only one aspect of air combat.

we shouldnt read anything into these reports from exercises, they're usually exaggerated and never state rules of engagement and combat scenarios. it came from a french blog, written by that Merchant guy i think his name is, no other side has released any info on this. results from exercises are never published, its political and corporate suicide really, its also a defense issue and why we dont hear details. i always take them with a pinch of salt myself.
its like the reports of 2 typhoons destroying 8 F-15's with no loses. it means nothing as we dont know ROE and combat scenario. the allied nations usually fly together against a simulated enemy threat, if allied aircraft go against each other its usually acting out a combat scenario with a predicted outcome, and without knowing ROE and combat scenario it really means nothing. we dont hear the results for a reason so its up to the individual if they want to believe a journalist.
@TRATTORE1225 the results are ture to some degree. but u have to remember there were rules/limits applied to the EF, like the rafale started on its 6 and used its new BVR radar even thought it cant carry the correct missile or tech for that. I wouldn't be to worried about this. After all a jaguar scored a kill against a Rafale and the 1st time the EF and rafale met it was a different story!

@TRATTORE1225 well the only official results of these sort o exercises to be revealed show the Typhoon to beat the F-15 and F-16 and even get a solid lock on the F-22, so I really doubt the Rafale beat it. The Rafale is more of an offshoot of the eurofighter anyway as the French quit and used their experience to build the Rafale. It's a good plane, but I doubt it could beat the eurofighter, and defintley not 7-1. The fact the Saudi airforce chose the eurofighter is quite telling
@TRATTORE1225 Not only in EAU but also in Corsica (Sept-Oct 2009) in an exercise between RAF and FAF. Again a large victory for rafale (9 vs 1). Combat simulation was based on a scenario poposed by RAF...
EF2000 is a nice plane granted...but no it won't out fly the F-22 and the Super Hornet...well I'd have to say I will need to wait and see....the Super Hornet surprisingly is extreamly agile...and already being tested for Thrust Vectoring.
what do you mean it wont out fly the super hornet. yah super hornet is an agile aricraft but EF is built aero dynamically unstable which makes it extremely agile. and also it can sustain 9G for a period of time
I may have miss-spoken, watching the two fighters doing thier flight show demo's I should have said it would be close. Both fighters are extreamly agile.
the F-22 is a marvel of technology and undeniably the greatest fighter on the planet but its use is debateable when other much more expendable aircraft still dominate the skies. the typhoon has the advantage over the super bug being able to sustain 9g indeffinately, superior climb rates, supercruise and remaining very manouverable and able to sustain 6g whilst supersonic and the more powerful thrust vectoring engines are on the way. the super bug with TVC will be a serious aircraft.
@ChuckMamuck I think what you are saying is that the SH cannot sustain 9g's, this I am not in agreenment with. Watching the SH perform it's airshow and seeing that it is almost but not quite able to perform similar moves as the Raptor and Typhon, I'd have agree with you on the point that cheaper AC seem to still dominate the sky.
the bug can do 9g with ease but its not designed to sustain it for more than a few seconds, it could but the stresses on the airframe over time would take its toll so its classed as unsafe flying limits. the typhoon airframe was designed to achieve it safely so its within its flying perameters. they used many composites in construction to allow extreme g loads. the pilot is a main limit really, with normal g suits a pilot cant sustain 9g safely for more than a couple of seconds.
@ChuckMamuck Kinda makes me wounder if the F-15 and SH could be upgraded in Avionics, maybe contour adjustment and TVC? By the way, I don't dislike the Typhone, I think it's a rather nice Ass Kicker!
the typhoon pilots have their own "typhoon" g suit which allows them to safely sustain 9g indeffinately., its not needed for the bug which has a max g limit of 9g for short periods which the pilot can handle, without the typhoon g suit the pilot couldnt sustain 9g which is well within the typhoons limits. the germans have advanced the suit to allow the pilot to take the aircraft even further. the typhoon was designed and built to go beyond the usual 9g standard of other fighters.
ahh the F-15, my favourite aircraft. its still 1 of the best fighters around today and they should do whatever they have to keep it in service. an F-15 was said to have hit around 37g after the pilot suffered spatial disorientation, theres a vid on here about it. the pilot landed the aircraft and found it was buckled and deformed from the stress. and an israeli pilot landed his F-15 with only 1 wing, thats a fucking serious aircraft, stunningly beautiful also and seriously capable

and i agree with you on the typhoon being an ass kicker, i was unsure about it at 1st after hearing the problems thru development and people thought it would be another tornado. then it came in service with the software probs so the software was limited to 7g and finally after all the probs were solved we found out it was a serious piece of kit and better than what i was expecting, alot better. europe needed to produce a world class fighter and now they got 2, rafale and typhoon.
most deffinately, plus the f-35 on the way which im looking forward too. we've got the measure of the su-30 from the indian airforce who regularly take part in exercises so we know where we stand against it very well. i hope to see the f-15 around for a long time yet, i think the strike eagle has a place in the future USAF. F-22, F-35, super bug and F-15E, thats just the fast jets, more F-22's would be nice so get the cheque book out obama. i think the US will build more in time.
Congress passed law that the F-22 would not be sold outside the US. In a way I think that sux because if it was, the production cost would have dropped and made it more affordable.
On that aspect I would agree. If Congress would allow the sell of the F-22 it would drop production cost considerably and open the door for us to by more. By the way F-22 better or not...it is nice to see our European allies designing such a nice aircraft.

There are 2 kinds of fighter aircraft...... Targets and Stealth ,which would you want to be.... With rail guns and lasers coming online,if your tracked your dead.... The Euro fighter is a jobs program ,not a real attempt to produce the best Europe can produce..
Rail guns and lasers cannot shoot down planes. That's science fiction;-) You still need rockets or good old gun fire. The Typhoon is a fighter/bomber and it does both jobs very well. If the Indian army orders it - as the saudis have done - well then the Eurofighter is going to be a great jobs program for Europe;-)
How can you say that? Lasers and Rail guns will easily demolish any plane. They are not science fiction either. But they have yet to be fielded. If that's that what you meant I agree. For now, no one has to worry about countering these weapons.

I'm not a airplane connoiseur, but in MY OPINION, the A-10 is more respected.
If the F22 were a Mercedes and the EF2g were a Jaguar, the A-10 would be that rinky-dink jallopy that you couldn't bring yourself to get rid of because it's too damn reliable. :^)

you greatly over estimate the raptors power. Though it is a more powerful air to air plane at BVR it would be lucky to take out 2 typhoons. In CIC the raptor would likly be defeated.

F-22 raptor is a limited role fighter unable to perform the mission roles and arsenal a Eurofighter can. Its impossible for the F-22 to shoot down 10 let alone 3 max without being engaged. F-22 cannot even carry the amount of missles required for such a feat.
Having said that the F-22 is the better fighter in the Air-Air role.
In fact in trials the Eurofighters were able to gain BVR radar and missile locks on F-22s before the F-22s noticed the Eurofighters.
I think Americans keep so much classified about the F-22 only to keep public morale high and money flowing into the project when actually it isn't brilliant.
Where are you getting this. From what I heard the F 22 was carrying exturnal tanks when it was tracked BVR. And it was tracked at a much shorter distance with exturnal tanks than a 4th gen fighter is able to be tracked.
In terms of where to position the Typhoon in the current menagerie of fighter aircraft, it can be best described as an F/A-18C sized fighter with BVR systems and agility performance better than older F-15 models, similar to growth F-15 models with same generation systems and engines, but inferior to the F-15 in useful operating radius.
The Typhoon is not a stealth aircraft, despite various assertions to this effect, nor is it a genuine supercruiser like the F-22. Its design incorporates none of the features seen in very low observable types, nor does the EJ200 incorporate the unique design features of the F119 and F120 powerplants.

hey squirrel this is a response to that other comment awhile bk; The paint on it is only designed to reduce the return from radar, but as soon as it uses radar its picked up (triangulate its position), that also goes for when it opens its hatch to fire a missile/drop a bomb.
Once in sight yeh, then its just down to who's A; the better pilot and who's plane is quicker off the mark/maneuverability.
All ive seen so far is people going on specs - ive yet to see the results of an F22 vs EF2k.
high altitude fire and forget missions... where after you drop your ordinance and its on its merry way with GPS guiding it from 60,000 feet then fine... but dog fighting its gonna get eaten alive.

The EF 2000 shape look like the Canadian 1950's CF-105 one of the most powerfull aircraft made by human ( maximum speed in 1950's : 2130 km/h )

the thing for EVERYONE to remember is that every aircraft has strengths and weaknesses, the key is to know what strength your aircraft has over your enemy and use it to your advantage, a simple example is the p40 v's the zero, the americans learned (from the russians though) that the only real way to take away the massive manauverability of the zero was to do zoom and boom tactics, and to ensure that dogfighting happened at higher speeds which the zero was very bad at.
This plane better than that, he said she said cycle of bickering. How many of you have ever sat behind the controls of and F-22, EF, or Su? It comes down to the pilot skill and tactics in the end. Just like how pilots in nam managed to take down so many smaller, more agile migs. Tactics and Pilot experience.
No doubt the Ef-2000 would lose to the f-22 and the su-35 because its what they are purely designed to do. The Ef-2000 is better in ground attacks though

the F-22 is a marvel of technology and undeniably the greatest fighter on the planet but its use is debateable when other much more expendable aircraft still dominate the skies. the typhoon has the advantage over the super bug being able to sustain 9g indeffinately, superior climb rates, supercruise and remaining very manouverable and able to sustain 6g whilst supersonic and the more powerful thrust vectoring engines are on the way. the super bug with TVC will be a serious aircraft.

Watching the SH perform it's airshow and seeing that it is almost but not quite able to perform similar moves as the Raptor and Typhon, I'd have agree with you on the point that cheaper AC seem to still dominate the sky.

the bug can do 9g with ease but its not designed to sustain it for more than a few seconds, it could but the stresses on the airframe over time would take its toll so its classed as unsafe flying limits. the typhoon airframe was designed to achieve it safely so its within its flying perameters. they used many composites in construction to allow extreme g loads. the pilot is a main limit really, with normal g suits a pilot cant sustain 9g safely for more than a couple of seconds.

the typhoon pilots have their own "typhoon" g suit which allows them to safely sustain 9g indeffinately., its not needed for the bug which has a max g limit of 9g for short periods which the pilot can handle, without the typhoon g suit the pilot couldnt sustain 9g which is well within the typhoons limits. the germans have advanced the suit to allow the pilot to take the aircraft even further. the typhoon was designed and built to go beyond the usual 9g standard of other fighters.

ahh the F-15, my favourite aircraft. its still 1 of the best fighters around today and they should do whatever they have to keep it in service. an F-15 was said to have hit around 37g after the pilot suffered spatial disorientation, theres a vid on here about it. the pilot landed the aircraft and found it was buckled and deformed from the stress. and an israeli pilot landed his F-15 with only 1 wing, thats a fucking serious aircraft, stunningly beautiful also and seriously capable

and i agree with you on the typhoon being an ass kicker, i was unsure about it at 1st after hearing the problems thru development and people thought it would be another tornado. then it came in service with the software probs so the software was limited to 7g and finally after all the probs were solved we found out it was a serious piece of kit and better than what i was expecting, alot better. europe needed to produce a world class fighter and now they got 2, rafale and typhoon.

most deffinately, plus the f-35 on the way which im looking forward too. we've got the measure of the su-30 from the indian airforce who regularly take part in exercises so we know where we stand against it very well. i hope to see the f-15 around for a long time yet, i think the strike eagle has a place in the future USAF. F-22, F-35, super bug and F-15E, thats just the fast jets, more F-22's would be nice so get the cheque book out obama. i think the US will build more in time.

you greatly over estimate the raptors power. Though it is a more powerful air to air plane at BVR it would be lucky to take out 2 typhoons. In CIC the raptor would likly be defeated.

F-22 raptor is a limited role fighter unable to perform the mission roles and arsenal a Eurofighter can. Its impossible for the F-22 to shoot down 10 let alone 3 max without being engaged. F-22 cannot even carry the amount of missles required for such a feat.
Having said that the F-22 is the better fighter in the Air-Air role.

Where are you getting this. From what I heard the F 22 was carrying exturnal tanks when it was tracked BVR. And it was tracked at a much shorter distance with exturnal tanks than a 4th gen fighter is able to be tracked.

It's nto a genuine stealth aircraft, although it does have stealth feauters. However, the Typhoon is indeed a genuine supercruiser, it goes supersonic without using afterburners. So your Australian report got one of the most important features of the Typhoon terribly wrong... Hmmm, Look it up on wikipedia...
Therefore, I highly doubt the expertise and veracity of this report...

hey squirrel this is a response to that other comment awhile bk; The paint on it is only designed to reduce the return from radar, but as soon as it uses radar its picked up (triangulate its position), that also goes for when it opens its hatch to fire a missile/drop a bomb.
Once in sight yeh, then its just down to who's A; the better pilot and who's plane is quicker off the mark/maneuverability.
All ive seen so far is people going on specs - ive yet to see the results of an F22 vs EF2k.

lol, the EF-2000, the fighter designed for the cold war - billions of pounds over budget, zero stealth capabilities, good dog fighting capabilities/multi-role aircraft... but thats about it.
Price per Jet:
Eurofighter in 2008: 122 Million USD
F-22 in 2008: 137 Million USD
Eurofighter sure is the best of the standard fighter jets, even probably outclassing a F-15/hornet/su flanker/F-16 , but not a F-22 :( stealth puts it ahead + better avionics :P - naff yank pilots though! lol

I seriously don't care about these comments here and I do love all the jets, it is just my passion. Keep in mind Lockheed fans that F-22 is hella expensive, F-35 was a market competition creation and costs more than originally projected (they did get the contract though). I think you should stop saying this is better or something else, because it is childish. All of those jets have their strengths, weaknesses, advantages as well as disadvantages. The EF 2000 shape look like the Canadian 1950's CF-105 one of the most powerfull aircraft made by human ( maximum speed in 1950's : 2130 km/h )

the thing for EVERYONE to remember is that every aircraft has strengths and weaknesses, the key is to know what strength your aircraft has over your enemy and use it to your advantage, a simple example is the p40 v's the zero, the americans learned (from the russians though) that the only real way to take away the massive manauverability of the zero was to do zoom and boom tactics, and to ensure that dogfighting happened at higher speeds which the zero was very bad at.

This plane better than that, he said she said cycle of bickering. How many of you have ever sat behind the controls of and F-22, EF, or Su? It comes down to the pilot skill and tactics in the end. Just like how pilots in nam managed to take down so many smaller, more agile migs. Tactics and Pilot experience.

wanna bet that Boeing and Lockheed are working on a aircraft better than the EF 2000 right now.
they can easily copy and improve this aircraft.
Or they can just deploy the YF23 Black Widow to show who really the sky dominator.

No doubt the Ef-2000 would lose to the f-22 and the su-35 because its what they are purely designed to do. The Ef-2000 is better in ground attacks though
