Probably the bearings are worn too. Smaller induction motors with loose bushings used to rattle like this. Very sometimes even ball bearings can do that on bigger motors if the bearing fits in little loosely. My WM motor did it once, though no biggie just was funny.
Nice old motor. Seemed to me like the brushes didn't separate entirely too and some vibrations combined with the rotor slip resulted in some repeated switching between start and run mode.
you know im not sure? i just had a class in there today i should have looked. ill have to look, im not sure of the voltage. im pretty sure it will be 110/ 220v 60hz like the century motor i have. mine is ancient.

Nice old motor, those Century motors never die!
My big old 2-1/4Hp one was doing that, the brush linkage was all gummed up, and the brushes were sticking in their holders.
take it apart and clean it up, it'll work like new provided the brushed aren't worn out.
