I can't get enough of this clip! This kid had so much natural charisma and charm. If you order The 400 Blows DVD from Netflix by mail you can see his audition tape, which is hilarious and really captivating. He had a bigger supporting role in another Truffaut film, "Tirez Sur Le Pianiste" (watch it on Netflix or youtube), which was made the year after The 400 Blows.
