  • I like his voice but tilting his head back is a real bad habit for sining. It tightens the larynx.

  • GUAAAUUUUU!!!!!!!!

  • Je constate que cette video est la plus vue de ton profil ! Rufus numéro 1 parmi toutes tes vidéos, j'en suis très contente !!!

  • oh come on

  • He puts his turn on the song & pulls of a MASTERWORK.. Lovely... HeY go go.. RUFUS!!!

  • HA HA HA singing right out his snout HA HA you kids no nothing of a singer , its either you are or you aint ,Rufus aint

  • thank you veeeeeeeeeeeery much Rufus!

this song is magnificent! specially 'cause today's my love's birthday :( but he's not my boyfriend so, i guess i have to hide all the words again :(

I can't even tell him that i love hi

  • Rufus + Judy = Awesome music!!!!

  • Jesus, I 've never seen such a "naked" performance, so much expression and intimacy! Almost as he is making.... whoops sorry, *shuts her mouth*

This is his best version of the song. Thank you so much for uploading it, it's still in my favourites.

  • this is the way this song should be done, but with his normal voice. has this been recorded by him on another cd by any chance?? the best version I've heard.

  • it's great to hear this song being performed the way it should be

  • Wow, great sound quality for shooting this from your seat!

  • Thanks. It was hard filming because the cameras were not allowed and we had to hide.. The sound is from our minidisc.

Despite his sickness (or maybe because of it), Rufus was never as moving and entertaining as that night. I saw him cry. He had a standing vation at the end. Deserved.

I think this is the night he really became the star he had always wanted to be.

  • great interpretation of a classic song.lovely arrangement too. whats that about out of tune...i dont think so...hes just not typical and predictable.

he does a great job, especially if hes having throat troubles.I dont get the fuss with Judy ...and im gay...

  • I wish he'd redo this with a fresh healthy throat. It is so spectacular by him otherwise.

  • thxs for the post! do u happen to have rufus' "do it again"?

  • You are pathedic and cold hearted.Rufus was terribly sick,he couldnt even talk and still he insisted to continue the show. That is signs of a TRUE entertainer,I'm sure not even Judy had done that.

  • Um, EXCUSE ME. Miss Garland was much sicker than this moron almost every single time she performed in much of her later life. But still, she went on. And believe me, Judy at her worst, isn't even anywhere near in comparison to this guy at his best. THANK YOU.

  • Oh yeah okay buddy, trust me, I saw "My Shadows" or whatever too, okay,Judy wasnt exactly a role model, but I digress.

  • Well, ya know what, buddy. I didn't watch it because I refuse to watch that crap. You actually believe that garbage? Heheh. Shows how much you know. ;)

  • Wow am I actually argueing with some assburger about who knows the most about Judy Garland? This is somethinbg I'll tell my friends!

  • Oh, no, of course not. I'm just trying to educate you. Tell the world, I don't care.

  • I think he did a good job, its his own version of the song. everyone gets sick . lets not get angry or make a big deal of something so little. Its music, lets just enjoy it

  • What a song to have a sick scratchy throat on. A beautiful version. Thx.

  • This video's made for people to just gaze at his beauty lol

  • WHats all the jim bailey bit-- I thought we are watching mister rufus? why compare an impersonator funny queen with a cool canadian stud muffin?

  • He was ill that night. But he did a great performance anyway. love him

  • Rufus is just such an *amazing*, passionate performer, I LOVE IT!!!!!!!! (I love Judy too)

  • If the promised CD/DVD comes anyhere close to the performance in this clip, it will be a real tribute. Here he has closely realized Judy's idea, combining her arrangement with the natural innocence and youthfulness of his voice. By his usual straight vocalism, his only way of singing, he avoids the cliches that would make this just another "I Can't Give You Anything but Love".

  • My previous comment leaves out Rufus' composing. His song, "The Maker Makes" is the reason I have taken an interest in his work. That song has a magical affect on me because of the song and the singing.

  • Rufus' main thing is voice. It is great that he loves Verdi, loves Judy. As a child of the 1940's, I agree that he is not totally familiar with the swing element that was such an important part of Judy's style and the more subtle vocal conventions of swing. It doesn't matter. I feel sorry for those who don't respond to his singing.

  • Jim Bailey is a female impersonator.

Rufus Wainwright is a talented musician.

    You're comparing apples to lemons.

  • Jim Bailey does a tribute show too and hes even better

  • he's great i cant wait to see him at the Hollywood bowl September 23rd.

  • Even if Rufus was ill...he still showed those wonderful dimples...and gave it his all. I love him.

  • Im glad he and Jim Bailey are showing everyone Judy was the greatest entertainer of all time.

  • He is

  • does he smoke too? that doesn't help much. he's still amazing.

  • Rufus was very very sick, he could hardly even swalow and still, he gave the audience the best. Everyone had a great time, he was very moving. I wouldn't exchange the memory of that night with anyone else that had Rufus not sick. It made it very special, as we all understood the pain he was in and couldn't help beeing on his side... Something really happened between him and the crowd.

What a tribute to Judy : he was just prooving how much he loved her ...

  • Wow...just wow.

  • Absolutely marvellous. I LOVE this guy's voice. And, the way he presents himself. Thank you.

  • other singers would most likely cancel the show rather than sing when sick, so major props to rufus for caring that much about his fans to not deprive them of his charismatic stage presence! it's a shame he couldn't talk (as some have said) since his on-stage musings to the audience are so much fun!

  • pity he didnt cancel!

  • Jim B

  • Sorry, I was being rude, and you expressed your opinion in a polite way, which doesn't happen often here. The fact is that many people attack him saying that he can't hit those notes, even if it's quite obvious that he wasn't in great form that night...If you hate his voice, that's ok. I hate many singers' voices!

  • Can't you see that he couldn't sing?he couldn't speak at all!He couldn't hit the notes because he had one third of his voice left, because of a bad cold and not because he can't sing. Stop it please

  • Not only does he copy everything Judy did including her innunciation...he's trying to sing it in her original key and can't hit the notes. Give me the real Judy Garland any day. Reminds me of a quote: "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else." -Judy Garland, 1922-1969

  • He had a sore throat, and he was great despite all this.Have you ever tried to sing with a laryngitis? He couldn't even speak, but he pulled off a great concert nonetheless.

  • I love the way Rufus does this song, especially how he enunciates "baby." He really puts heart and soul into a song that many performers sing by route. I don't think he's trying to tell the world that he is as good as Judy ... he is a different person with a different style. I admire him for singing her show in his own way. There's no drag involved here. I like him for coming on stage as himself. Judy would have, too.

  • nice

  • poor Rufus! he has anginas!

  • jim bailey did the same concert at carnegie he was excellent

  • Rufus is amazing! I love his voice, he's beautiful<3 poor guy, i admire him for doing this even though he was sick:(

  • erghhh - he cant sing this.

  • This is just wonderful - no flip or sarcastic comments - beautiful

  • I think Rufus Wainwright has a nicer ass than Judy Garland, but he's not doing this song the justice she did it.

  • Oh my God. I think I love you for posting this.

  • i hope Rufus's concert is released on an album.

  • It's going to be, but after his new album of original material. There's also a documentary about it directed by Sam Mendes.

  • it's coming out on dvd and cd in june

  • Judy Garland herself sang many a concert with a bad throat..and sometimes to greater effect...Nobody these days, except rufus, could pull this off...with or without a cold.

  • I couldn't agree more.

  • thanks for sharing! I had a great time at the olympia, and even sick, rufus was perfect.

  • Goodness.. this man is very special.. he has a very rare gift, thank whoever for Mr Rufus Wainwright..xxx

  • Of course he was amazing ! I had the best night !!! Thank you for your words anyway :)

  • Before anyone says anything about him not hitting those few high notes, please realize that he performed with strep throat this night. Taking that into account, I think he does an amazing job here.

  • im glad u think so i think the whole project is crap

  • Great. Good for you. So, why are you wasting your time looking at this video?

  • well clearly i cant comment on something i havnt seen can i anyone with half a brain could see that!

  • Well, clearly you never actually commented on this video. You just said you thought "the whole project" was crap. That implies that you had prior knowledge of and exposure to the whole Rufus/Judy thing and just chose to voice your disdain on this particular video. Anyone with a quarter of a brain could see that:)

Just go watch something you enjoy. Peace.

  • i have seen many clips of him which is why i can comment so get your bloody claws in dear dont be so angry you may a heart attack!!

  • I'm not angry at all, hence the use of smiley emoticons:) I would view this more as friendly banter, but you can think whatever you want. You're the one who threw the first stone, dear. I'm merely responding.

  • thats fine but you dont have to throw rocks do you and everytime i reply to you i have to listen to this rufus guy wailing his lungs out what a life!!

  • I agree, everyone needs to leave him alone. He's still a person jesus! I love rufus<3
