@churchmouse144 Practice. That's what it took for me, that's how everyone does it. Find some shapes to practice (Such as D minor or C Major) and try that. The way i improved was constantly playing the Duncan Hills Coffee Jingle by Dethklok, and the intro to My Will Be Done by Unearth. Start slow, and build speed.

@mattmanmkb Haha. Yeah.. The side of your palm has to be resting on the string above it.. FOR EXAMPLE: sweep starting with the A string, your palm better be on the low E string.. that's what I do.. i'm still perfecting it.

The only thing I hate about sweeping is when you have three notes on the three different strings but on the same fret.. THe whole finger roll sucks :/

Take out the drums and you could chart it in 6/8 though the notes just wouldn't be triplets if you did.

Any tips for the B Major where you have to roll your finger over three strings? Those are hard as fuck to play cleanly.

@chaseef 3 adjacent notes is quite a feat to sweep. I have one suggestion - posture. Try adjusting the way you hold the guitar or how you're sitting or how your arm rests until you can get your pointer finger to be angled toward the nut. Now, try sweeping three adjacent notes. You might notice improvement. The finger lays better across the strings this way, the mechanics evade me. Watch Shawn Lane's sweeps, you'll see what I'm talking about.

@Firequacker Great point. Also if you can always try (though difficult) to practice with your guitar as similar as to how you play standing up, that will lessen the chance of you not understanding why you simply cannot play the same thing as well standing as sitting.
