I currently own a 2010 4Runner which I bought back in January 2010. I recently moved from Delaware, USA to Vancouver, Canada. I drove the 3000 miles trip. I went to Mt Rushmore in SD, then drove thru the big horn in Wyoming, up to 10,000ft, then drove to yellowstone national park. I finally got to my destination with no problems. This truck was comfortable and very powerful. I could not ask for a better truck.
yea...the exterior of the 90's and early 2000's models were amazing, but this new exterior design, im not likin it at all. but don't get me wrong, a 4runner is a 4runner!
I like the previous 1990 to 2002 4runner, I do not like 2003 to 2011 after the 4runner, lightweight design, after the 2003 to 2011 4runner sport utility vehicle exterior design of the original flavor loss and 2003 to 2011 'after Lamp' the worst design.
I am a 4runner owner. my last one is an 04, and after going to the dealer to upgrade to a 2010, I was completely disappointed. This is a step backward for any 4 runner owner. A 6 cyl, featureless box thats so ugly, it makes my 04 look brand new again. and 19 inch ghetto tires on the ltd??? WTF? not one reputable tire co makes a decent 19. its time to look elsewhere for me ( and many others) as this horrific looking piece of shit hits so far below the mark its embarrassing.
@icanafforditt Actually the the V6 produces more power than the old V8 does and it does it more efficiently. Step backwards? The 5th gen is a huge leap forward mate, just look at the trail edition. If you base your SUV on the size of tires and how large the engine is rather than capability off/on road, then you probably should own or even be looking for a 4runner. Go a buy an American P.O.S you ignorant wanker
@icanafforditt They have taken a little bit of a hit in the interior materials, but it's all put together well. And you don't buy a truck for it's features or material quality. You buy it for it's capability and in the 4RUNNERS case dependability. But I agree those rims look pretty for the city, but definitely wouldn't go train cruising with them.
@Zinizzle You are correct. but i've upgraded 4runner's for years, and it has always been either a lateral move or a step upward in every aspect. 2010 was the first year I saw it as a step backward. Im being honest when i say this vehicle is downright ugly and featureless ( compared to previous years) , and for the first time since my 1st 4runner, I actually have to look elsewhere, and i dont like it. the end of an era for the flagship of the Toyota brand IMO.
@icanafforditt: Evidently, you haven't looked at the Trail Edition. it's the most technologically advanced 4Runner yet. Looks are objective...but if you don't like the tough looks of the Trail, you must be a fem.
TOYOTA WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST! People need to realize that Toyota has the most 4X4 sales on the planet, that wouldn't happen if they were not the best at making them. Oh and the most car sales:)
You should read all the responses before making knee jerk remarks because I replied to a another gentleman that used similar eloquence to yours in his remarks. To give all the naysayers an update, the brakes and rotors were finally changed in May 2010 (again at the Toyota dealer and 10 years after I purchased the vehicle) at just over 365,000 kms.
262,102 miles on my 88 v6 4runner, still runs great, well apart from having a burned out TPS. I want a new 4runner so bad, but am only 14 so cant have one!
Cool. Now we know the 2010 4runner can drive forward, ascend and descend small hills, climb over small rocks and look nice and large hills. How about showing us the interior, where we tend to spend 90% of our time.
The "unintended acceleration" is an issue on some mostly North American made (Corolla/Rav4/Highlander) Toyota models. The made in Japan 4Runner has never had these issues. In case you missed it many NA made cars have also been recalled - for small things like steering failure or engine stalling...all that fuss about Toyota's recall because it is a first for Toyota. Why would you pick on this issue with just this vehicle?
@jamestaggreen 3rd owner paid $7500 cash with 150000 mi. Now at 200,000 after 2 years of ownership. Lots of fun and still runs great. I rock crawl the thing every week. So far I have had to replace rack and pinion after crashing into a boulder (my Fault) replaced fan clutch/ water pump/belts. Replaced tire with 265 r75 km1 bfg tires and removed running boards. still runs strong and I abuse this thing to the max!!!!
I own a 3rd gen 97 4runner limited with stock rear e locker. The 3rd gen was more capable then the FJ stock. These new 4runners are very nice and refined. That is just it nice. There to nice. As some call them queens. Toyota needs to bring back the capabilities of the 3rd gen. Add some refinement and you would have it made. Listen to the consumer and stop building a luxury SUV that's called a 4runner. 3rd gen still rules in my book for now!
@goalkibble I have the limited edition, the locker was a option on the 3rd gen. If you have this option there will be push button on the left hand side of your dash. The push button will show rr diff lock. I have seen people talk about adding the feature later on. As The wire harness is there for it. However have fun. It looked to be very complicated process. Might be better to go aftermarket if you dont have it.
I think that Toyota is now taking marketing 101 from the Genius's at GM. 1) why have a LTD version if it doesnt have 90% of the bells and whistles of the rest of the line? 2) The tire choice on the LTD has 1 manufacturer, and its a city tire. Why make the best real 4 x 4 with city rims? 3) Tan interior as the only option in Canada? I"m on my 4th and last 4runner for the above reasons, and i'm sorry to say that Toyota is now on its way down. They killed a classic.
@TheChivasare1. the trail edition is for the true off road enthusiasts. I am at best a weekend warrior who loves fly fishing in those hard to reach spots, as well as lots of winter steelheading and skiing. my 04 LTD does all the above with ease, comfort and luxury. I would never opt for a trail edition as Im way past that. Still a great truck but IMO they messed up on the marketing side. still a great truck.
Very nice SUVs, at first I did not like it, but when I test drove it, I had to get it, and yes, I went and bought one for myself. They are very comfortable, and very easy to drive, I changed my 08 Pathfinder for this 4Runner!
How are you? I like it a lot. I boughtmine a week before the recalls, but despite the facts, I still feel safe driving it. I live in the east coast, so these past two weeks, I had the chance to use the 4X4 because of the snow, and it is very responsive. It is more confortable than the pathfinder, and more leg room too. The driving is a lot smoother than the pathfinder, and gas milage, i am getting lie 16mph with city and highway mixed, but I only have less than 1000 miles on it. Hope this helps
I've owned my 1998 4Runner since new and was thinking of trading it in for a new 2010 - after seeing the new 4-Runner I will be keeping my 1998 truck a little longer. I was not happy with 5 things: 1. the fixed mast antenna on the fender 2. the gas door is no longer locked and opened from a inside switch 3. the window and door lock switches inside on the top of the door 4. ugly ass rims on all models - especially the Trail Runner 5. LED tail lights are no more, back to bulbs. 3rd generation # 1
i have a qustion i am from vnzula and when that truck come to vnzuela?? venezuela plzzz i am very fan for TOYOTA and never i used olther car only TOYOTA
apart from the 1st generation 4runner, ive got from the 2nd till the 4th generation 4runner, thats the 08 LIMITED. cant wait to get this one. I LOVE TOYOTA 4RUNNER
Looks like a nice truck small little changes made to outside and inside. But i still love my My Sport Edition 4WD Titanium 07 4Runner. My wife fell in love with it when she test drove it and hell these trucks aren't cheap but honestly i think i am a 4Runner guy for life. Can't wait to get a 2012 4Runner now there is were my money is going. What's awesome though is that this truck has taken me through a bad winter 07 storm in Colorado Springs these trucks are a work horse!!!
the white trail model looks kinda like the nissian gtr in the front. ...i love 4runners aand at first when i saw the new model i didnt like it much, then it grew on me and im starting to like it more, however i still like the 2003-2009 models the best so far.
Ive owned a 99 4runner and now a 06 4runner. I almost cried when i traded in my 99 4runner for my 06 xsp. Im sure ill cry when i trade in my 06 for an 2012 limited. Thank you toyota. Im a 4runnner man for life.
I also have a Gen 3 4Runner and had 80K miles on the original brakes. The dealer stated that I had plenty of material left on the front discs & rear drums. I just replaced all 4 sets of pads, because I thought it was too strange. I love my 2000 Limited 4Runner 4x4. Still feels tight and everything works.
I agree that no V8 was a bad move, but buying a jeep is an equally awful choice. Have fun with your 235 horsepower jeep, unless you get the 5.7L that is awful on gas... premium gas that is. The blind spots are miserable too. Check out the Pathfinder if you're leaving Toyota. Jeep just makes a bad automobile.
I have 342,000 kms on my 2000 Runner. It tows, goes off road and does everything I ask it to do. These vehicles are unbelieveably reliable and tough, 10X better than all the GM trucks I owned in the past. Despite everything I put it through, I haven't even changed the brakes!!! Needless to say, I will never buy any other truck than a Toyota and my next truck will be another 4 Runner. I'll keep mine until it dies which means I may not get my next Runner until the 6th generation comes out!
I know it's hard to believe that brakes can last this long but it's the God's honest truth. The Toyota dealer that services my vehicle is shocked as well, but all my service work is electronically logged and traceable through Toyota Canada!
I've also ran into other owner of Gen 3 Runners and another person told me that he got over 300k on his brakes as well. Folks, nothing touches these trucks for reliability and I urge other owners to post their experiences as well. THANKS AGAIN TOYOTA!!!
I'm with you on this. I got a 5th gen 4Runner last March and it's outstanding. Prior to that I had a 2004 Tacoma that I had bought new and I traded it in with 87,000 miles on it and I never had to change the brakes, either. Absolutely great, I love Toyota!!
the 5th gen looks great, too bad it looks like an Evo x and Sequoia got freaky and this was the result. and nice to see the V8 dropped. remind me of the 2nd gen, small front large rear with good approach and departure angles.

Either you lie or someone is doing that and you don't know about that. It's impossible for a brake pad to last for 342,000 km.

I lol at "looks like an Evo x and Sequoia got freaky"
Anyway we should get a good result from that mix
