  • Lauridson's music fits a band so well - oh to be a parent of any of these kids - lovely - at 2.01 they handle ML's signature "welling' so beautifully with grace and tenderness

  • beautiful intonation!

  • we played this at all district in my area, loved it

  • Lol heck yes she's great. It's not her fault her alto clarinet is a piece of shit and squeeks all the time. This was my freshmen year at all-state. I loved the conductor, Out of the three so far shes the best. We'll see what the one is like next year.

  • the last note wasn't long enough the clarinets should have been the last inst. played

  • This was my freshman year! The conductor was really funny but awesome. :D

  • Awesome! We played this piece in 2007's Florida All-State! -flute-

  • Eww! With the exception of the clarinet that screeched at 3:08 this is VERY good.

  • Wow. We're playing this piece in my band. It is so painfuly slow, but it's really beautiful. This band makes it sound so good, and they barely look older then 15, 16 years old! Well done!

P.S. Anyone else watch the condoctors face as she, well, conducts :D?

  • Yes, and I personally find the conductor's passion and thoughts more easily communicated when they put expression with their face. It more easily depicts whether he/she needs something to be more tender or more prominent.

  • what's wrong with 10 french horns in a lauridsen piece

  • my HS band is playing this lolz :D

  • I'd like to hear this song in orchestral form...

  • I've only heard this done as a choral piece. But it's beautiful as an instumental piece too! I love this song. Lauridsen's music is absolutley incredible.

  • lol at 3:07 my friend was the one who squeaked

  • My god, isn't lauridsen simply genius! Well done!

  • rofl at 3:07.

But very well played. THUMBS UP!

  • jesus how many people are in this band? there are like 10 french horns!

  • 256. and if you count, there are 12 tubas

  • Holy crap!! The Massachusetts all state band has about 120!! (estimating)

  • Truly on of Lauridsen's more sublime works

  • Listen to the recording with Polyphony and Stephen Layton: just perfect.

'The composer runs the emotional gamut, from ecstasy in the sublime to subdued introspection, qualities readily engendered and reflected by Polyphony's matchless singers. Their love for words and music register with unwavering conviction, doubtless fuelled by Lauridsen's singability.'

  • we are playing this for UIL

yeah, 4th band playing this is gunna be weird

we sound good on it so far though

  • :38 = hehe im playing trumpet hehehe

  • nv on earlier comment

  • They have a interesting tuba set up, broken up by the euphonium and god that band is massive

  • i think it was too fast, and the beginning was a little too loud..its hard to stay quiet with like 20 horns. sounds amazing. my band played this at our state festival, and i agree it is alot harder than it sounds..but none the less this director took it way to fast, which took away from the emotion of the piece

  • way too many horns, you need maximum eight. Beautiful sound. need more third horn. trumpet is not with the band near the fermata. the conductor nedes to shape the notes.you should hold the clarinets for longer at the end. the climax could have been more emotional. anyway, it was great, and i have played this pece so i know how defficult it can be to grasp the emotion.

  • only problem i have is that they started the piece quite loud that didn't allow for a lot of dynamic contrast... that was probably due to the massive amount of players, but still, dynamics are dynamics.

  • well there are like 20 french horns, so it probably was hard for them to contain the sound. look at the band its like they have 400 kids playing!

  • its a ballanced band. i was one of the tuba players. i loved this song. it was my freshman year and my first year

  • I love this piece. I'm playing it in band this year, and it's 10 times harder than it sounds. Great job, suprisingly good sound quality for a video, but personally i think your conductor looked ridiculous... but awesome anyway.

  • gorgeousssss wow theres like 98475984 people in each section!!!

  • This piece is so pretty but the fourth horn part sucks.

  • lol, clarinets.

  • That one squek is my great friend Janae. She rocks. Um, balls.

  • *gasp* Janae Harlow? I know her! She's great. :)

  • Honestly.... There is nothing more than a wonderful morten lauridson piece.... This one is very beautiful... 2 complaints.... Its too fast, and all you can hear is oboe.... Other wise it was wonderful!

  • Add the choir and the orchestra pieces!! The choir's VERY impressive!

  • my symphonic band played this piece for the All NW conference this year, and i think the conductor rushed the piece, by far, waaaay too fast. sounded really good though. i also thing the fermatas should have been treated as grand pauses, thats what we did, adds a really nice effect to the sound

  • i think they did a good job.. i love this piece.. Symphonic Band @ my school played this piece as well. i think this director should've slowed the piece down a bit.. it's a beautiful piece.. i heard a few intonation problems but not too bad. they just need to listen a little better.. good job

  • everyone knows it's all about texas all-state. =D

  • great piece, but let me say what i heard =P

after first fermata, when the trumpet and flute entered the trumpet was sharp and the flute was flat

might be video and audio lag, but looks like the trumpet didnt follow the conducter towards the 2nd fermata.

intonation problems at some of the fermatas.

also the piece was kinda rushed in my opinion.

slow it down and fix some intonation problems =P

  • Hey this song sounds really good and expressive sure there was one screw up but that doesnt matter. Oh and TimGBone Im a 9th grade all state trombone of florida. IN fact the best 9th grader in the state. anyways this song is very expressive.

  • Congratulations! That's cool cuz I was a 9th grader (when I wrote that comment) and I was the only 9th grader in the trombone section in the all state band so I thought it was cool.

  • Wow, great job. By the way, 1 squeak isn't the end of the world, even at that level of music. The main thing is recovery, and that squeak almost sounded sort ofin tune, lol.... Oh yea, Massachusetts All State trombonist right here.:)

  • Wow, they did a great job. 1 squeak isn't the end of the world though, so chill out... Oh yea, Massachusetts All State trombonist right here. :)

  • oh goodness ONE squeak, u guys are lame critizizing such a wonderful preformance.

    Awsome

  • Great vid. Beautiful.

I'm trying out for NC All State band next month.

  • Pretty Flawless, EXCEPT FOR THAT DAMN CLARINET, but yea pretty flawless..one thing though....WHERE ARE DA NIGGAZ IN DIS BAND!!?? LOL!!

  • Beautiful rendition.

Funny how peple will critizise a performance with out knowing the effort and talent it takes to just even be nomitated to perform in such a great event.

    Great Job

  • Leave it to the clarinets to screw up a priceless moment...man what a great song though...what a shame....
