  • I first became aware of Jenks "Tex" Carmen from a radio program of the late Utah Phillips from KVMR Nevada City, CA. The song played was "Beach on Waikiki" and Utah jokingly stated that Carmen's voice would "peel the varnish of a canoe paddle"!

I think Utah secretly had an affection for this one of a kind singer/guitarist!

  • This is a delightful Tex Jenks Carman recording, with Joe Maphis adding his characteristically wonderful lead guitar to the proceedings. It would be good to know whether this was cut at Woody Fleener's Sage & Sand studio in Hollywood, or whether Jenks recorded it elsewhere and leased the master to Sage & Sand. I suspect he later recorded in Roy Lanham's studio. Many thanks for posting this fine performance by Jenks.
