It's way above the quarry towards the saddle, however it was a large lake with an impressive dam wall and a valve tower. The Dam was breached, in the 1960's I believe, because the residents of Abergynolwyn were concerned that the lake represented a flood hazard. I think you can see it on old Ordnance survey maps. The Dam was used to power pumps that produced the compressed air for the quarry tools.
Right, so it no longer there when we went. There would no doubt have been some remains, but we didn't see them - we weren't, after all, on an archeological expedition, but on holiday!
Impressive though it has grown up a lot since 1990, in fact it's pretty well forest now. Did you get up to the old dam?

No, memory has preserved no old dam! But I'm glad to have a record of how it was before being engulfed by trees. Was the dam far away?
