@maxreger: I'm not sure, but I think Frank Miller went to play briefly in Chicago under Reiner. Alfred Wallenstein had become a conductor in his own right. Harry Glantz may have retired. He was already pretty old by the time Toscanini retired in 1954.
I have no idea what happened to the Principal Oboe, Clarinet, and Flute. Concertmaster Daniel Giulette had briefly joined the Beaux Arts Trio, but was then replaced, I think
@jin12345678 I'm with you! Such a disgrace what television has become -- UTTER GARBAGE! To think that these shows and shows like it -- Bell Telephone Hour, Firestone Hour etc. -- were shown on network TV in prime time. We'll never see their like again. Television executives today play to the lowest common denominator -- in my opinion. SHAME ON THEM!
@jin12345678 SERIOUSLY What happened to Western Culture? Entertainment for the intellect has been abandoned. If I were to see this on TV, late at night, I would probably think it was a dream: "Wow, what dimension am I in? Bernstein on Beethoven, ON TV? That's impossible!"
The best damn coda anybody has ever written!

Fascinating to see this on all levels. A thousand thanks apolloxias.
I don't see a single first chair player from the old NBC Symphony (under Toscanini) here in the new version--the Symphony of the Air.
Does anyone out there know how many players stayed in this orchestra after Toscanini retired?

@Pianofy
Well said.
I myself rarely watch TV,apart from the odd Star Trek or documentary.
Youtube et al has provided a means of choice.
Some of us REALLY don't need spoon feeding on endless horseshit thank you very much Mr Murdoch.
