Burt was an incredible talent. He shook everyone up when he appeared in the USA on record in 1964.. The most haunting singer , guitarist songwriters, who ever picked a tune......An Icon who influenced many, many well known artists, on both sides of the pond. The simplicity of his voice woven around his , intricate, inventive, unmatched, eclectic, mesmorsing, guitar style. One of a kind... Thank you for your inspriation and influence Burt.... RIP buddy....
First heard this in 67 in Glasgow whilst under the influence of............still love this and Renbourne etc.......saw the Pentangle concert last year in Glasgow......also JB & RW at Inn at Lathones recently
I think it is very romantic, that he sang this to her, and her being so young too. Your auntie is a very lucky lady! What a journey, the stories and then finding yourself in his music. Magique !
my auntie was going out with burt jansch.she run away from home in portsmouth when she was 14 .and ended up living in a flat with jansch and renbourn.she told me he wrote this song with her in mind and took her down to soho square to sing it to her.i remember her telling me about it before i had heard his music.when i got a record of his from her i wasnt expecting much.but was totally blown away on listening.
Okay - I "favorite-ed" it. I have been a fan of Jansch since I discovered his music at 15, in 1966, when I bought the "Lucky 13" album.... he is truly great!
This was the first fingerstyle song I learned, at 16 or so, about '67; re this album, I always thought that when I could play Anji I'd be a good guitarist, then found that though I'd nailed it, there was still so much to learn. Decades later I'm still learning.......that what makes guitar (and all instruments I suppose) so great, it's a never ending journey. Thanks Bert for the inspiration you gave me.
In the BBC doc "A Boy Called Donovan", D does a version of this, but plays it differently than Jansch, not changing the chord as Bert does, making it (I think) bland, lacking the magic of that major 7th chord, however briefly it sounds. I always thought that this sounded like a Donovan song, but I don't think D really got what it was about, so it truly belongs to Bert.
There!!!!!! I have added it to my favourites! In fact, I have known and loved this song for years, along with a lot of his music. He is indeed great; it is a pity there is so little video around of him.
wow! molto toccante e evovativo

@gcorking12 Very overlooked. However I don't he regrets/regretted that. He voluntarily kept himself on a low profile.

One of the two masterpieces from Jansch's first album (the best first album of all time). The other is 'Ramblin's Gonna Be the Death of Me'....
