  • Thanks for these educational videos kim

  • 0:59 You went from limp, straight hair in 2006? to 4-5 inch natural hair in 2008! What happened in between? That's what I want to know!

  • @JasmineRBrooks That's quite normal. Your hair grows around 4 - 6 inches per year. If she cut off all her texturised hair in 2006, and started growing her natural hair, by 2006 she could have 4-12 inches.

  • Hello Ms Kimmay - I just recently subscribed to your channel - and I am not a big "You tuber" but I have been an healthly hair fanatic since Dec 2009. I am so impressed and inspired with what you are doing with your natural hair. I just recently had my relaxed end cut off after about a year of transitioning and I am so happy that I did. I did it for my daughter who will be here in November. Right now, my hair goals are right where your length is at in this video. - Thanks again!

  • love the scarf at 8:14 where did you get it from?

  • i'm gonna watch all your vids great that i discovered your channel

    i'm already loving you :p

  • i love that hairstyle with the twist and the bun. Im a dancer and i have to have my hair in a bun. I would like to know how do you do that??? will u please post a video or respond back. thanks!!

  • Also, you're beautiful! =D

  • Oh also, gorgeous hair. You have given me the strength to get mine cut tomorrow. I'm sooo nervous but soo excited.

  • OMG Kimmy I love you! So far, your videos are very detailed, interesting and well put together. You actually give information and advice...some others just tend to ramble on and while it can be fun to listen to, I like how when you speak, it flows and I definitely don't get bored

  • Kimmy, thank you thank you thank you. I can not tell you how excited I am to have found your channel. I am biracial and was adopted by white parents and never learned how to take care of my hair. I am now 40 years old and although I have length, I have always struggled to know how to take care of my hair and how to style it and embrace my natural curl. The information you provide makes SO MUCH SENSE and I am excited to embark on my hair journey being able to learn from you and your channel!!!

  • Hello! I love your channel. Do I have to do the "big chop" before going natural?

  • cani just say im frm britain and i was wondering what does twa stand for

  • @greatmusic52 teeny weeny afro i think

  • @greatmusic52 Teeny Weeny Afro ;)

  • Are there protective styles for short hair? Any pics or videos? My hair is about 3 or 4 inches.

  • How would I start my journey from a twa?

  • I love this video and the pictures especially. Very great with the visuals! Do you have any pictures on how you wore your hair while cutting off the texturizer? Currently I have a relaxer, but my hair is about the length of yours with the texturizer. I have a sew in, but once I take it out (the end of this week) I plan to have watched all 98 of your videos. Great Job, Love the hair, love the fashion, LOVE THE CHANNEL!

  • I love the motivational talk at the end of this video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!

  • I have been natural for 5 years but was dependent on stylist....finding your channel has changed the way that take care of my hair...I feel like a new natural...I am now beginning a challenge to grow my hair waist length. Thanks!

  • Your channel is great. Thank you. I found your chancel about a month ago, and now i'm hooked. haha.

  • Kimmay, I just found your channel and I wish I'd tuned in earlier during my first stages of my natural journey two years ago. I too wore a texturizer which grew my hair LONG, but it was just not natural hair so I cut off my hair a year ago this August '11. You have truly inspired me to keep going and once again achieve my goal of healthy long hair. Do you have any maintenace tips on wearing crochet styles while on my journey? Are crochet braids counterproductive? Thanks for your input.

  • I've been natural for around 9 years. One day I just stopped perming my hair. I didn't know it was becoming popular, I didn't know it would blow up like it has, I was just sick of the smell and the texture and everything about it. Now I love everything about my hair. But I could learn a lot more. I was wondering if you could post you top ten tips that you have learned. I.e. How often do you trim it/ wet it/ what do you tie your hair up with/ what kind of brush do you use etc?

  • Hi Kim thank you so much for your videos. I'm from the UK and you have inspired me to believe that my natural hair can grow past my ears! Thanks so much.

  • I really like your videos, and explanation of how you got where you are today! =) Thanks so much for sharing, it's just what i need to keep my natural hair healthy, and continue to retain length. =)

  • Hey Kim, I just wanted to say that you are such a pretty woman ( and you are in awsome shape girl!) and thank you for all of you helpful tips on hair care! SN: Do you have a channel for healthy eating and or working out? I am asking because towards the end of this video it looked as if you where talking about healthy eating or something.... -Thanks again

  • I found your channel and I'm so happy about it...I've always relaxed my hair and washed it irregular .Know I want to stay natural. Through you I have hope :)

  • you are a pioneer. YOU'VE taught us all very well!! So proud of you!!!

  • I want to no if i can have like a step to step plan that can help me with growth and getting my hair back to that good health

  • I just stumbled on your channel today and WOW thank you so much for such great videos. I never realized protective styles played such a big part in hair growth. As of now i have pretty bad heat damage and am thinking about shaving off my enitre head and rocking that look for awhile, then growing it out natural. the only thing I'm worried about is maintenance. I'm horrible at doing my own hair and just the thought of detangling brings on stress.

  • Hi I have been watching your videos for awhile and I love your teachings on hair. I am still having problems with the ends of my hair it still has that afro texture. Is there something you can recommend for this. I have grown my hair out for almost two years and my length is maybe 6 inches or so. Thanks

  • Thanks so much for this amazing channel! It is well put together and professional. I am glad to have found it. I love the banana clip style. I will try it for work. I have subscribed to the channel. :-) ThX!!!

  • Kim, love the picture of you at 4:19. Beautiful!

  • I love your channel, You have given me so much information to take care of my natural hair. Please continue to share your knowledge with us.

  • What produces you use on you hair. Love your hair.

  • Good evening. I am currently in transition from relaxed to natural. I have over the last month cut 5 1/2 inches of relaxed off. I thought this would be enough. I was trying to avoid cutting it all at once . I am seeing that I do not like both textures but since I've had long hair all of my life I am afraid to just cut all of the relaxer out. I have about 3-4 inches to go all the way around. After bumping into your videos I am inspired, but still a little afraid. Any advice. Thank you in advance

  • Wow! I'm from England and I usually resort to braids when the weather is bad as I was always led to believe that this was a protective style. You have talked more about actual hair health than anyone I' ve seen on youtube. I've ordered those books and I'll be trying those protective styles . Do you have any for shorter hair, my hair is slightly longer than your length when you did the corinne curls. I almost convinced myself that my hair had reached its peak but now i know different. Thanks

  • your hair is beautiful i just found your channel i love the way u have ur channel put together :-)

  • Hi MzMcSnuggleBunny,

Welcome to my channel. Thank you for those sweet words. I hope you'll find my videos helpful. Enjoy!

    :o)

  • @kimmaytube

Just like MzMcSnuggleBunny as soon as I viewed one of your videos I immediately became a subscriber. The professionalism of your videos is UNmatched by in the natural hair community on youtube. The fact that you do some videos and then add WELL SPOKEN audio is an A+.

The lighting is amazing and I want to encourage you to continue posting more, as you have indeed become a hair saviour to MANY. This video is one of my favourites, don't take it down. I am sharing it with EVERYONE!!!

  • @kimmaytube Thank you for the welcome. And your welcome, I couldn't say any thing but nice words this is a wonderful channel. I also found your ph balance video helpful i didn't even know about the ph balance of hair and the thing we put in our hair that helped me a lot. ^--^

  • I come to your videos whenever I get frustrated with my hair. You are very encouraging.

  • I'm brand new to your channel (I just came about an hour ago and subscribed lol) so I'm not sure if you have ever been asked this question but in trying to go natural now would I have to cut off all of my relaxed hair?

  • Omg!! i love all your videos, very inspiring, and you have helped me alot. Thank you so much for posting all your vids and helping others out. I'm so glad someone mentioned your name in their vid or else I would be lost right now with my hair lol. I just decided im not perming my hair anymore so this is certainly going to help.

  • I am about tp get both books...... thank you sooo much i was wondering why natural hair wasn't growing like it shouldve been!

  • your hair is beautiful!! i have extremely curly kinky hair. my mommy always used to brush through my curls and didnt realize it damaging my hair!! now im natural. :) your hair is gooorggeeous!

  • DIsregard my question :) I found the answer in the book you like "Ultra Black Hair Growth II" by: Cathy Howse.....THANK YOU soooo much for this reference.....I love to do research, well being a 2nd masters grad student, it comes natural :).....I did not know how much i did not know about hair period!!!!! Wow! I also purchased the other book "Grow it" by Chicoro....I am sooooo honored to have these in my possession....my two new books to add to my collection.... again, thank you!

  • I own cathy howse's book, and it is simply AMAZING. i read it like 3 times!!!

@QadarahYahawadah: you don't have to cut it off right away, but eventually, the relaxed hair may start breaking off on it's own or interfering with the look of your styles. i would say that if you start experiencing breakage, you should probably but off the relaxed ends.

  • If I haven't relaxed my hair in over an year, can I just start the natural look or do I still need to cut it off?

  • I so love your page. Thank you so very very very much.

  • Do you have a tutorial on trimming your ends?

  • For how long have you been growing you hair? OR How long did it take to get to this length?

  • Your hair is beautiful. Keep up the good work. I never imagine wearing my natural hair, because I have 4C. Now, I'm going to do the big chop . My daugher and your hair gives me the push. God bless.

  • Beautiful inside and out. Luv your hair. And this channel. You are very articulate. And look so healthy :) A great inspiration. Makes me realize I need to change some stuff up, but I'm excited about it. I like my texture, but have never gotten the length I now realize I can. So much damage and what not- but I can definitely get about .5 inches most months. My sisters always had longer hair, and at some points in my life I envied them, but I am gonna work with what I have now!

  • I find it amazing that your three that inpired you on You Tube were, CURLY CHRONICLES, CROWN OF HIS GLORY, and RUSTIC BEAUTY. Those were the very three that got me going.

    WOW!

And THEN.............I stumbled upon YOU, dear, and

THAT WAS ALL SHE WROTE. :o)

  • You inspire me Kimmaytube!!

  • I have a question.. I think that I have ruined my hair! I am so sad because I thought I was doing a good thing for the last three or four washes. I purchased the J. R. Liggetts natural shampoo bar and read the ingredients and discovered that it has sodium hydroxide!! What should I do? Should I start over? is my hair still natural?

  • Your hair is so gorgeous. *Sighs* I've been relaxing my hair all my life, and every time it so much as reaches my shoulders I have to cut it for some reason or other (usually severe breakage). I've stopped using relaxers for a year already and decided to go natural. The only problem is the relaxed hair! The new growth is coming in lovely, all curly and everything. The top of my hair, however, is horrible. It's dry and brittle and breaks. I know I should cut it, but I'm so hesitant to. Advice?

  • Hello Kimmaytube, I enjoyed watching your videos. Your videos have been very informative and inspirational. I am going to purchase both books you suggested,"Grow It and Ultra Black". Thanks again peace and love, Ms.V.

  • How long was your hair back then?

  • Girl, don't you have the cutest shape and a very lovely voice made for audio--kudos!

  • for how long have you been natural

  • I love, love, LOVE this video! I am so inspired by your journey. I have been on my natural hair process for about 7 years now, but I have NEVER heard such comprehensive tips and advice on the subject as I have viewing your videos. Thank you ever so much for making it plain and helping me realize that I can do this! And I particularly love the end where you say it's not all about hair. Kudos to you for saying that!

  • What a beautiful picture at 4:16! Stunning! Needs to be in a magazine or someone's billboard!

  • do you ever trim your hair? If yes, how often. Thanks

  • Wow, even your personal style changed after you got your hair together! Looking great:-)

  • Hello Kim, I have a quick question for you. I love the hair style you are rocking @ 4:23-4:50. I just wanted to know how was your hair set you you created this look. Was it done on stretched air-dried because it seems pretty straight or was it from a twist out. Thank you love your videos.

  • Its funny, I have been natural for many yrs and had similar issues such as yourself. I cut my hair into a Mohawk in 2008 THEN found Youtube! lol, such as life! I do not regret the Mohawk, but it is surely time to grow my hair back.

  • love the bump and fro hawk at 4:43- LOVE IT!

  • I refer your videos to every natural woman I know, even permed women. My hair has grown leaps and bounds since starting your routine in June 2010. I love it. It's easy and I already know what to expect from my hair. Thank you for being so detailed, professional and dedicated. Keep up the great work. I would like to see more of the twist/protective styles that you do.

  • This is a great video, really great. Don't ever take it down!

  • I want to qo natural but idont know how to start off. Can yu help me ?.

  • when do u plan on straightening your hair?

  • I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your journey with us. I have learned so much from your videos, and I just discovered your channel yesterday lol. You've inspired me to take better care of my natural hair, and I can't wait to see it prosper. Thanks again~many blessings

  • I have 2 questions. 1)How often do you add water to your hair? 2) How long does it normally take you to do a protective style?

Just wondering b/c you've said in the video that adding water and washing more frequently is key to retaining length and preventing knots and tangles. I think you've also implied that you wash once a week but I'm a student so weekly washing interrupts study time and requires A LOT of preparation and planning mostly b/c now I have to redo or find a new hairstyle.

  • @ibogirl04 Ive heard her say that she washes her hair once a week and mid weekly she wets her hair and puts in her leave in conditioner[theres a video on her channel ]. She also has a few videos on protective styling ;)

  • I have been relaxer free for 14 months now. Still haven't done the dc as of yet. Sister I want to know how you get you waist so little and can I have your work out and diet cause I want to look like you when I grow up . LOL one luv

  • wow ur hair started of really slow.its actual a scare to me i and i almost want to lose hope.i hope for ur length but not in 12 years.i hope u could share some hope with me.any way i LOVE ur videos very informative and real!thank u soooo soo much for sharing this with us newly naturals.

  • An inspiration! Thank you : )

  • This is the best hair journey ever and you are the living proof that black women can grow very long hair!

    GOOD JOB!!

  • OMG!!! I DIDNT KNO U STARTED YOUR HAIR SO SHORT . I jus started going natural this month and i kno i got a long way to go but u inspire me to do it so thank u so much for your videos :)

  • Love this video. Any ideas about protective style for short hair?

  • just like you i have been growing my hair out for years and only the last 2 years i have seen growth i went to a big salon in new york and was letting them texterize my hair and it kept breaking it was not till 2 or 3 years ago i stop going was paying 300 for them to break my hair crazy. thanks for your video i have learn so much

  • Thank you so much. I let my daughter watch this today so that she can understand why she will be wearing protective styles for the next 6 months. I really want to take better care of our hair! So thank you again for just taking the time to share your experience. I will also be wearing more hats because my hair is so short I will focus on moisture.

  • I love your snap shot at 4:20. That is cover girl worthy. The hair style, the jewelry, the pose--everything is flawless in that one. I like collecting pictures and if I were to see that in a magazine, I would actually save that one.

When I open my YT channel on natural hair and also start a blog, I do want to reference your channel because it has been SUCH an inspiration.

  • Awesome

  • Great video

  • You have great style as well ;o)

    jaz

  • Hi Kim!!

Could you do another update on how you wash, condition, and detangle your hair because I see alot of videos and i dont know what to use.

  • Wow is your waist naturally that tiny...here in the bahamas we wear uniforms and the band on the skirts made our waists small...

  • WOWZIERS! i'm soo glad i found this video! i'm 16 n i went natural (BIG CHOPP :) ) 2days after my 16th birthday. i've been searching and searching 4 videos that actually went n depth on how the hair works and what makes it work depending on certain variables. this explains alot because know i'm at that awkward stage n it's encouraging to c alot of black women informing us of R natural hair n how 2 take care of it! thx u for ur dedication :)))

  • First of all thank you for all your videos! I think I heard you say that you are on the DC area. I just moved to the area is there any hairshops you recommend to get my hair done?

  • Love your videos. I am using your methods on both my natural daughters and my relaxed hair. My question is that I have heard that veg. glycerin in the wintertime should be avoided. Do you have a different regimine for winter than other times of the year?

  • Very informative video. Love it. I think all naturals have been through different stages with their hair.

  • i have been telling everyone about youtube haircare!!!! it changed my life!

  • KIMMAY- could you do a video showing how you created some of those protective styles after the 6:50 mark? I would love to see it as styling is my biggest problem. I would be greatly appreciated!

  • @okiwao hat would be awesome. I am at an awkward length and ned knew protective style ideas. :)

  • I thanks for the vids..You are such a beautiful and inspiring woman. I have been transitioning for 2 years now. Started wearing my hair out this last month, I am getting so frustrated. I do not have a clue what to do with it. I have not done the BC as of yet. I have a few questions, how often do you wash your hair and do you co-wash? also I am in the city of Chicago where do you find the Giovanni products? Thanks for the positive words and advice..Best wishes!!

  • @MsMia70 Ive seen the Giovanni products at Whole Foods Market. and the beauty aisle of many health food stores. You can also order them online either from the Giovanni website or several others.

  • THank you! The same women you mention, especially curlychronicles initially got me on my way to maintaining my natural hair. Now, you've added an additional element of the importance of protective styles in order to encourage growth. Please continue to demonstrate your protective styles. Just as you mentioned, the actual demonstrations show the visual learners step by step. I'm also in DC. Please let me know of any events you attend or sponsor. Thanks again!

  • @6:56 there was a beautiful simple style that i would love to do on my hair bc its too short to do the twisted buns that u do.i know u not our hair slave but can u plzzzzzzzzzzz show me. i cant seem to get not hair as neat as that

  • everytime i'm on one of your videos "mixed chicks" advertising. they trying to make money off u

  • @dumbdumdditty

lol. No. Technically, we are ALL making money. They pay Google to advertise on my channel. Google pays me. And everybody's happy. ;o)

  • I have heard so much about u, almost every video that I watch about natural hair care there is someone there who advises checking out your channel. Watching this vid of ur hair journey it's such a MAJOR INSPIRATION for me. You've come very very far from so little hair to massively long hair. And honestly you've made me realize that it's really not all about length, its more about health..they just go hand in hand. You keep ur hair healthy it has no choice but to grow. BTW I LOVE UR PHOTO @ 4:18

  • You must have went to a Dominican Hair . I say that because that happened to me.

  • i love u gal and your intro rocks.

    Muahhh....

  • Im glad I found youtube too! because ive never had a relaxer in my hair and my hair has always been around or a little pass shoulder length and still is... i appreciate you putting up your experience because it helps others learn more about how to keep hair healthy so that it can grow... so thanks!!

  • i think i started following you from your first video and i definitely saw your confidence build during your journey. some say it's just hair but it's really an extension of what's going on inside. beautiful.

  • Kimmay, what books do you reccomend?

    Thanks,

    Allison

  • Thank you for this awesome video. It was so educational. I am newly natural and looking for ways to keep my hair healthy and growing. You are so right and saying that we often fear water on our hair. I am finally starting to understand how important water is to my hair. Again, Thanks and your hair and views are so wonderful.

    Paris

  • OMG your waist is so tiny! :-)

  • I love your top at 01:24. and your hair is amazing!

  • Hmmmm, I discovered YT in April of '09 after my BC at that time! I mostly did alot and I mean alot of research, after 1 year my hair is neck length now!

  • Is it possible to achieve such great results without doing a big chop and by gradually cutting off any relaxed ends?

  • You are my number one role model! I wear my hair in those types of styles very often, and I get many compliments! I notice that my hair grows in those styles because I can leave it in for a week without touching it. You are beautiful, you are an encouragement to me!

  • Great job!! I love watching your videos. You are so inspiring. Be blessed and I hope you reach all of your goals.

  • Like this video

  • You are wonderful motivation and inspiration. I have been natural for about 7yrs, and during that course of time I cut my hair off 3 times, simply because I had no clue how to care for it. I have less than a TWA right now, and I cannot wait until I can start to place it in protective hairstyles! Thank you!

  • Kimmay, Thanks so much for making these videos. You are truly an inspiration! I just happened to stumble on your video. (As we all know, there are no accidents) I am in desperate need of help with my hair. It has been damaged from years of relaxing. I'm going to follow your advice to get my hair back in health. Again, Thank you! Love the picture of you at 4:18! Awesome!

  • cool

  • u remind me of regina king

  • I noticed that in the past 3 years, so MANY women have been going natural ! It is amazing to see ! I went to this small party last night; let's say there were 10 women, exactly 2 of them had relaxed hair. It was one of the best decisions I've made to go natural. I did it a year ago and I am loving my hair !

  • @olivieraaa yea I agree!!!Maybe its the new trend....a trend that stays that is lol

  • GIIIIIIRLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!

I thank you SO much. I desperately needed a cute wedding hairstyle for this weekend and I love the Tuck and Go with a flat twist in the front @ 6:56!! It's perfect with the flower to go with my bridesmaid gown. Thanks again!

  • AWESOME

  • so you dont age. lol. beautiful skin

  • Can I move in with you? I can just picture myself cooking in that gourmet kitchen, LOL!!!!!!!!! Nice hair <3

  • I'm only 14, but in june i stopped getting relaxers. ive always loved the way my new growth felt like even were i had relaxers. one day at skool, one of my few black friends told me how much she liked my hair even tho it was relaxed. Her hair is natural and is too her butt. I had been growing out my hair for years and reasently just got it past my shoulders, but i had to cut it off because a relaxer had damaged it badly. After that i decided i was going natural because i love the texture

  • I also feel that protective styles are glamorous. I love my cornrows & twists!
