They actually just proved on the National Geographic show The Indestructibles that the hollow imprint is NOT what saved Scott. It was in fact the fact that he was hit by the vehicle at nearly 30 mph, and was knocked out of the way of being rolled over.
If there was a hall of fame for innocent people getting run down, this poor bastard would be the first person they make a statue of. But there isn't. I looked.
