My boyfriend has seizures. They are SCARY! )'; I get so worried when he's at home alone because he could have one and no one will be there to take care of him! Ugh, these things are horrible. I wish they didn't exist!
@medicalterrylove2 How is that disrespectful? My 17yr old daughter has epilepsy and has been told numerous times by the neurologist, eeg techs and others about the dangers of being in water. She is stubborn and takes baths when no one is home despite these warnings, how many broken hearts would there be if she had a seizure while in the bath and drowned? More deaths are caused by secondary incidents and not the seizures themselves. I was trying to potentially save someone by my comment.
@medicalterrylove2 I worry all the time about that, and a friend of mine lost her brother due to drowning in the bath because of seizure and another friends brother drowned in the pool. Epilepsy sucks and it's no fun being " different " but my daughter and others have to take some responsibility when it comes to their illness or there may be terrible consequences. Your statement makes no sense, that's the point, seizures can happen anytime with no warning !!!
Interesting vid. X_X I have epilepsy myself but only seen it happen once myself. Do you have a memory lapse afterwords? I do, after waking up i suddenly lose about 5 minutes of being awake afterwards.
Hello, I was not conscious as far as I am aware. Although sometimes used to be partially aware of what was happening. Also I have currently been seizure free for over 8 months :)
i was epileptic since the age of 5. I immegrated my country to USA so I can have treatment at the age 27. I was giving Dilantin and pheno barb and that controled my seizures and the last one I remember in 1974. I'm 67 now retired and I was able to cut the phenobarb completely and now I only take Dilantin.
I achieved so much with epilepsy and without but mainly thank god for my childrens and thank god for the normal life that he(GOD)helped me live it

I am so happy to have found ur video and support site, I had my first seizure on sunday and although its not a good thing to have its just good to know that others are going thru the same. I was conscious through it, well I knew my boyfriend was there and I kept fighting it but I did lose all awareness briefly.
Thank you for posting this video. It is so wonderful that you have a fiance that is such a support, and take of you. No doctors in my State are willing to diagnose me with epilepsy, and I actually lost my job because of it. I have no health insurance, and not sure where to go to get help; so my life can be normal again. My symptoms looks very similar to yours, so scary.
My father suffers from seizures but is still aware, but is totally unable to communicate. Frightening thing he was landing an aircraft once while having one (stress is his trigger and was one of the first time's he had flown solo). This was when he no idea he had a fist sized tumor in his head! 38 trips to the doctors before he got a diagnosis (Shock horror NHS again!). Suffice to say no more flying! 15 years later it hasn't grown back, cross fingers! thanks for your video!
Wow. Thanks for sharing this. Our teen son has seizures and the entire family has had a near nervous breakdown when he's locked the doors and been in bath, and not answered us...now we have doors that we can open with a key and rule is he takes NO baths or showers or swims alone...bless you
It can be so hard to strike the right balance regarding safety and privacy. Something I can recommend (I know it sounds odd) is a 2 way baby monitor. That way if a seizure occurs you can here it happening and get to him without his loss of privacy. Likewise you can enquire if he's okay if all goes quiet, and if he's fine and just relaxing etc he can answer, again without losing privacy.
@CDFoakley WOW!!! I JUST HAD ONE IN THE BATHROOM LAST WEEK AND YEA IM NOT ALLOWED TO LOCK THE DOORS ANYMORE!!!
But itz was quite interesting; my mother said she told me to open the door, but i answered her and told her i didn't know the combination, imean does confusion happen?? idk, but it was mad crazy!!
Wow thats classic, do you perform complex tasks during seizures?
eg. Combing your hair or walking or driving?
I've heard of a story of a truck driver who had a temporal lobe seizure who drove to a completely different state than he was supposed to. - thats rare though.
I can walk, follow simple commands like "go to bed" or "sit down" sometimes I phone my partner's mobile (even if he's right there next to me), eat random food from the fridge like carrot sticks or an apple etc. That's about as complex as I get though
My partner will have a complete personality shift and say things he doesn't mean. He recently told me he didn't love me anymore - later on, he had no memory of this and was completely devastated when I told him what he'd said to me.
I was not any medication for it he said he would get scans done then I would called back for the results I had all tests done they ask for yet I have seen the consultant yet as he retired and there are no other consultant neurologists in the county yet and I have been waiting since April to get my results which I am not impressed by at all I feel I am suffering unnecessary I feel like many failed by the nhs I personally scrap the nhs re build it for 21st century
I have temporal lobe epilepsy, and its gone worse over the last year so I have 3 to 8 absent fits a day thankfully not as severe as above but I could talking one min I am next a couple of jolts then I am told I wake up normally 5 or 10 mins later with a headache and also the feeling of feeling hungover and tired also at times I get twitches behind my eyes I feel so alone with it yet I never had any medication for it when I saw the registrar he was amazed I wasn't on any medication he was cont
I have generalized epilepsy. I've had 2 Grand Mal seizures in a matter of 5 months. I was just diagnosed in February. I'm scared and don't have anyone to talk to! I'm happy that people like you are willing to put up videos to show people what a seizure looks like. Thanks a bunch Tania!
i had watter on my brain when i was a babey and it showed when i was 14 i had fits and now im on good meds and i have a tube that drains the water in too my tummy. fk all the people who think fits are funny fk them aye. i respect all the cool people in here :)
Thank you Willhbennet, I am definitely hanging in there. I have recently found out that I am now expecting my first baby. Something wonderful to look forward to. My seizures have actually improved slightly, so all is good right now xx

I am sorry that you have the same enemy as I do when it comes to epilepsy....bathtubs =) lol
Countless bruises and awkward moments with waking up feeling like I ran a marathon and now have a hangover to my parents seeing me naked.
Yup...my life....hang in there ....there will be a cure one day!....I'm glad that you have a good man to watch over you.

do you ever appear conscious during an episode?

Following a seizure I can sometimes appear to be conscious and in partial control of what I am doing, but I will not remember any of it later
