The one where the humans are turned to polygon blocks, episode "By any other Name", it was somewhat surprisingly the yeoman who got killed and not the red shirt security personnel though she was wearing a red dress.
Did Doohan just do that quick shot because the edit would be so quick they wouldn't recognise him or is he playing Scotty in that shot(in which case he obviously didn't die)?
When you see it all together it's kind of depressing. I wonder if they changed to yellow shirts (and ruled that captain stay on the ship) when they realized the universe just hates the color red.
Its a shame, some of these guys were pretty epic. I guess they made Worf to deflect the bad luck and survive it with awesomeness but by association, the yellow shirts became the new targets.
For some reason, I think of Circuit City and CompUSA when I hear the word "redshirt"... yes, I know they all had red shirts for uniforms... but for me, perhaps it's because how both companies went out of business... like i keep thinking of an analogy between redshirts getting killed on the show and the two former retail stores that had employees wearing redshirts going out of business....
long live the Red Shirt, God Damn the Yellow and Blue Shirts.

Wow, all these incidents ended in fatalities. Even Scotty died (before Nomad brought him back to life). BTW, doing it to ELO's "Im Alive" puts this video in the EPIC WIN column. ;)
Red shirts always bumrush into action - That's why they die first :D
... Or, their shirt has some sort of pheromone that makes everything aggressive against the red shirt, and it's probably uncomfy, making red shirts clumsy :|
@gearsguy54 Funny thing is, I think I remember him being in the episode "the Galileo 7" and he survived that which probably makes him the longest surviving red shirt seen on the series.
@mudslideVT033 Ah, I mean ones that don't have main character invulnerability. Also, technically he did die that one episode, the Nomad I think it was called, course he got better soon after.
3. You don't have to use your body anymore: Remember when I mention Tron, well, ironically, just like Disney bought Marvel, WB made the Matrix. Every technology in the Matrix is a direct result of that. In addition, these societies were ruled by galactic religions being Jedi and Sith. Technology was only a tool for these people. They relied mainly on the Force to keep things moving.
2. Time Travel: Remember that scene in Back to the Future where Dr. Brown warned Marty about creating a paradox? He explains three possibilities: one is that the entire universe would be destroyed; second is that the galaxy would be corrupted; third would only affect a single individual. There was a strong suspicion that the second possibility would occur because of time travel, but because of Luke Gore's popularity, nobody stopped him from such, so their history only exists in memory.
1. Transporters: Disney and Warner have made a longer film history than James Cameron and George Lucas. Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny are immortal gods. Therefore, those Star Wars people were suspicious about the actions of Disney and Warner, which includes the usage of transporters. Those red shirted n00bs on the Enterprise, on the other hand, were not aware of this threat and let pirate Mickey on board instead of traveling to a destination instantly.
=o Do the red shirt (red dress) women tend to die a lot as well? When I think about, no women come to mind... I remember one episode of a woman dying, but I think she wore a yellow shirt/dress and the death wasn't permanent since it was the episode of the crew ending up on some amusement park planet (anything they imagined came to life).
Oh yeah, and in the new Star trek Phase II series by james cawley and crew..the red shirt deaths tradition continues. One bites in blood and fire and one gets gunned down in enemy starfleet.
Great video man, good job. It just goes to show you, execept for some red shirts like Scotty,Uhura, and Kyle, red shirts are so darn unlucky in Star Trek TOS. BTW,what song is that in the background? Is that ELO?
I recently created a joke where Mickey Mouse as a pirate is attempting to capture the Enterprise. After fighting Bugs Bunny on the Grid, they become temporal allies and decide to go on a quest for the Star Wars galaxy.
@SirGabriel2076 Because the transporter on the Enterprise works the same exact way as the digitizer on Tron, Spock, one of them awesome n00bs, uses the transporter and finds himself on the Grid with Mickey Mouse right in front of him with that spandex and Frisbee. He starts walking the other way only to find himself flanked by Bugs Bunny in that trench coat and sunglasses with lots and lots of weapons with Kung Fu moves.
Once Mickey boards the ship, he uses Disney magic to kill the red shirts.
Lesson for Star Trek, professional star fleets always use shuttles. Simplicity is one of the principles of warfare.
Star Wars is filled with perfected technology and wonder. They never use transporters, neither had they used time travel. The only time they had used it is to add everything that is wrong with the prequels and cursed the galaxy, causing human infants to be jettisoned throughout the stars.
@SirGabriel2076 The way the Clone Wars actually happened depends on how it is portrayed by Battlefront 2 and Lego Star Wars. Anakin, on the other hand, goes through all the same experiences Luke went through but makes the wrong choices.
The transporter is used in Star Trek because the original show literally didn't have the budget to create and utilize a shuttle prop in an effective and realistic manner for each individual planet. It was, instead, much cheaper to put in a fancy lighting effect and a jump cut.
My favorite "dead red shirt" scene wasn't nearly so visually spectacular: In year three's "And the Children Shall Lead", Kirk orders two red shirts beamed down to a planet the Enterprise is orbiting. Turns out, it's all a trick by the telepathic kids, and there is no planet down there. OOPS!!
Were some of those scenes from Star Trek: Enterprise? The "Mirror Darkly" episode when the Yorktown is found in the mirror universe? Could have sworn some red-shirts from the ST:TOS-era were found strewn about the ship...
@burkesongs That scene was from the TOS episode "The Tholian Web".They made several scenes to connect the "Mirror Darkly' to scenes in TOS(the old uniforms,The tholians and the Gorn)That is why it seems so similar
@burkesongs That would make sense since the Defiant is the same one that dissapeared in TOS episode 64 The Tholian Web. No I am not a Star Trek nut, I just have the internet
@fennectech Actually, in the original series: Yellow is command, blue is sciences/medical and red is engineering/communications and security/tactical. Damn, I'm such a freaking Treky. LOL
Ah, the redshirt. The proud, the noble, the brave. THey make up the best of the fleet, They all deserve me- GODDAMNIT DAVE! YOU JUST HAD TO GET FUCKING VAPORIZED IN MY SPEECH? Send another r-GODDAMNIT! TAKE OFF YOUR SHIRTS! NO! STOP KILLING MY REDSHIRTS!

@Flailwielder Oh, boy, I just got how this all relates to the Communist hysteria of the time that these shows were made. Better off red than dead taken to it's ultimate in Star Trek, because you end up both.
I was reading an article on the cracked website saying that if u wear red all these great things happen to u, ha this video plus the fact that the kc chiefs havent won a superbowl in 41 yrs and the niners havent won in 16yrs dismisses this theory
when I was a kid, too young to understand star trek, my dad dragged me to a convention, and threw me in a costume cuz he thought it'd be cute...he made me a redshirt...jackass....
Man, they really wern't afraid to kill people in the original series were they. There's more deaths in there than probably the rest of the series combined.
@NodDisciple1 I know of two others, Lt. Leslie who was one of Scotty's security personnel didn't die in the series -- he would show up from time-to-time but mainly be background and then there was the main Transporter Chief never died (forget his name off the top of my head, but he had an accent similiar to Scotty's.)
I think the reshirts getting zapped in pairs originated from "The Day The Earth Stood Still" when the robot zapped a pair of army soldiers at the same time.
I'm surprised Starfleet didn't make green shirts or something. I feel a little bad for the redshirts but didn't they do stupid things? Like Olsen in the 09 movie when he pretty much commited suicide....
Is it wrong me and my best friends laughed at that?
Scotty supposedly wore a red shirt during the original series, but what the redshirts didn't know, is that his shirt was slightly more yellow than theirs, just barely enough to render it inert. HE WAS NEVER REALLY ON THEIR SIDE!!
Redshirts, the Kennies (south park) of star trek. Chosen because red is the colour of communism and at the time, communists weren't exactly popular in America. By the way, david2742's suggestion regarding the pre-pubescent arsehole might just be onto something
A Letter from Starfleet Headquarters For all of you young officers embarking on the starship Enteprise who are unfortunate enough to wear red shirts, we send you greetings. It is unlikely that you will survive the five year mission, so we wish you a quick and painless death. Good luck Signed: Starfleet Headquarters Return letter from redshirts Dear Starfleet If you wish us luck, then can you please give us a different colored shirt. Anything is better than this. Signed: The Redshirts

Should have titled this "101 Ways to Kill a Redshirt".

I'm surprised Starfleet didn't make green shirts or something. I feel a little bad for the redshirts but didn't they do stupid things? Like Olsen in the 09 movie when he pretty much commited suicide....
Is it wrong me and my best friends laughed at that?

uhara, scott, picard, and 5 other red shirts are the only ones that survive
clcincinnatiwolf78 1 year ago
Scotty supposedly wore a red shirt during the original series, but what the redshirts didn't know, is that his shirt was slightly more yellow than theirs, just barely enough to render it inert. HE WAS NEVER REALLY ON THEIR SIDE!!

Redshirts, the Kennies (south park) of star trek. Chosen because red is the colour of communism and at the time, communists weren't exactly popular in America. By the way, david2742's suggestion regarding the pre-pubescent arsehole might just be onto something

1:59 - 2:04 & 2:38 - 2:41 is my favorite, that of the lovely space genie, Losira, from the Star Trek TOS episode, "That Which Survives."
Losira easily disposes 3 members of the Enterprise crew with her hypnotic beauty & her death touch, with Sulu almost becoming victim #4
Losira was played by actress & Miss America Lee Meriwether, who also starred as Catwoman in the 1966 Batman movie.
:D
I've posted videos of Losira on my channel. Visit when you can & let me know what you think.
Thanks!

So... wearing a red shirt is basically like having a huge bullseye on you. Except when it comes to main characters.
