  • spy harder with dick steele

  • They should have used this on the Bond film. The Sheena Easton song is dreadful! This song fits the James Bond films unlike the one that they used.

  • WAY Better than the one they Chose for tjhe Movie!!! LOVE DEBORAH HARRY AND BLONDIE!!!!!!

  • I think what hurt this song was that, the first two or three times you ever hear it, the lyrics are hard to understand. But, I like this song much, much better. It sounds like *spy* music. LOL

  • Naaaa....Easton's song sounds waaaayyyyy better and much more fitting to a Bond movie. this doesn't even sound like a Blondie classic, compared to Heart of Glass or Call Me or One Way or Another. it's forgettable.

  • This doesn't really work for the film but isn't bad

  • The guitar is beautiful on this song! I can't believe they rejected this song!

  • Blondie had a lot of integrity, they wanted to record this song but after rejecting this version the producer still wanted Blondie for other song (the one Sheena Easton ended up singing), but BLondie said NO, either our song, this one, or no song.

  • This song is very James Bondish unlike Sheena Easton's song. This should have been used. In fact they should remake the movie just to use this song.

  • dla mnie fajiejsze i takie ...no nie wiem ale moze sie myle

  • Absolutely gorgeous and far superior to the Sheena Easton version. I think I know why this was rejected. Thing is when you hear a Bond theme you have to only think of James Bond and nothing else. Debbie would've stolen 007's thunder had she appeared on the screen, and it would've been all about Blondie, so they got Sheena Easton instead. I'm not going to say Sheena's song is bad. I thought it was pretty good and that she was very pretty but she was no threat to the franchise.

  • @bhols52 Im not buying that. I just think it was a matter of indifference of production. Mike Chapman produced this. I don't think he produced the song they recorded in early 81. I would love to hear the original version BLondie did.

  • Not unused, rejected by the film producers :(

  • I agree! Much better version!

  • This should be the original lead track to this movie... For me this song is way better than Sheena's version, I do actually think her song is terrible

  • this is a way better song than that sheena easton shit!!

  • freakishly good

  • Did this all start with Woody Allen's "What's Up TIger Lily"?

  • I never really liked this movie and I really couldn't stand the Sheena Easton song. Never felt like it belonged as a Bond opening theme. This is a much better song and I wonder why they never used it.

  • Sheena's version is one of my favorite Bond themes. But FYEO is not a very good movie IMO. This Blondie theme sort of fits the film better. This song is one of the weakest Blondie songs ever, but it wouldn't be the worst Bond song ever.

  • I am so glad Blondie turned down doing the bond theme. I would never trade this song for Sheena's version. Blondie was great but this is not a good song. The only people who are going to like this song are fans who think everything Blondie did was great.

  • I hate James Bond, but this song kills! :)

  • The Sheena Easton song is a classic and I like A LOT but this song actually has a more appropriate soundtrack vibe to it and it's actually a great song. Not saying it's better or worse than the Easton song, it sounds like it compliments the feel of the movie better for me than the original song which again is a great song! Glad to hear Blondie turned down singing the other song but of course they were not the type of band that wanted songs handed to them, that's integrity from a great band!

  • It's a fun song, but it's hard to get a good grasp on it because it doesn't match with the visuals, which obviously would have been different if Blondie's song had been used. But that said, I think the Sheena Easton song works much better.

  • So much better then the original song..

  • Comment removed

  • This song (in the words of Simon Cowl) is AAAAAAABSOLUTELY dreadful! Blondie should've swallowed their pride and sang Sheenas song, it would've revived their (at the time) dying career.

  • @totallytommy-Given that this movie came out in 1981 when Blondie was at their commercial peak, your chronology needs work. When you put this song in the context it was intended, as this video does effectively, it actually works, better i/m/o than a View to a Kill. Between "Call Me", "Rush, Rush" and and the music for Rock and Rule they did some decent film work. Oh, and it's Simon Cowell.

  • @ihasch-How could I forget the songs Debbie Harry wrote for Polyester? Any song that has "French Provincial" in the lyrics gets my vote.

  • @totallytommy Fuck Simon Cowell!

  • Blondie did much better songs than this! Very forgettable.

  • great song, blondie refused to sing the other version....

  • This is mediocre compared to the song they used. It's good but it's kind of like chopping wood. I think Broccoli generally made the right decision. He's a clever man! or was. LOL

  • Unbelievable that this was not used.

  • This is better as the intro song for the movie. I also would have enjoyed some of the sound of this song (the winding surf sounding guitars) to the movie's actual score, which is really too disco. Good Bond movie still.

  • Blondie hints the so-called "New Romantic" vibe in this song!

  • Would have been cool if Blondie would have actually did this and Debbie was on the opening credits screen instead of Easton.

  • very well done.M

  • Yeah, I like it. I think that's interesting that they didn't use Blondie's version. In the long run, it's a better choice. Blondie's music has stood the test of time.

  • This song fits so great with the a aesthetics, and has a great lyric.

It would have worked so well...

  • they should have used ths one for the intor and used the other one for the end credit

  • The problem with this is that Sheena Easton appears in this song, singing. However, this is evidence that it would work, and the Blondie song is a great song, and would be great for a James Bond movie.

  • love blondie, but they made the right choice going with the sheena easton version. that song had an atmosphere all it's own.

  • I grew up listening to Blondie. I also grew up an avid Bond fan (especially of Connery). Sorry, but compared to most of what Debbie Harry wrote/sung, this song just doesn't cut it. It's easily forgettable and not very creative. Just my two cents, take it or leave it.

  • ブロンディーが歌っているなんて、知りませんでした。感動しました。

  • @sakamoomo - Hello ! Try English ?

  • P.S.-The writers of the song that Sheena Easton ultimately sung were Bill Conti and Mike Leeson.

  • My understanding is that For Your Eyes Only was not written by Sheena Easton. When the producers decided to go with that song they offered it first to Debbie Harry to sing but she turned it down. For Your Eyes Only of course was a big hit. Never really listened to this one, but this song is actually pretty good.

  • jas22 - I have a lot of respect for Ms Easton so I'll leave it at that but there's no comparison of Debbie Harry to anyone else in this world of ours. The Blondie ver has a sublime beauty and scope which only true fans of Ms Harry will understand.

  • Okay on its own, but the Sheena Easton version was the best and works beautifully.

  • sheena easton sucked. that "morning train" song was a travesty, and the one for this movie? dull and uninspiring.

this one by blondie actually SOUNDS bond-esque. plus, its a rock song, at least - composed and performed by the actual band.

  • @jas22 ... Jeez. I can't agree with your first two sentences whatsoever.

  • greengear - as is your right!. i know most people wont agree with me. i stand by those comments, though. we all perceive art in different ways, i suppose. :)

im shocked i havent been tarred and feathered yet! maybe sheena fans are nicer than most.

  • I love this version but I don't think it's a Bond theme especially For Your Eyes Only.

  • I ignored this trivia, great addition to the fil vault, where is this song found?

  • This song is just awesome! As much as I love the Sheena Easton version, I can't help but wish that this one was in the opening credits, and the other one in the closing credits!

  • It's actually a good song on its own merits. Maybe hard to picture in place of Sheena's, but still ace, as usual from Blondie.

  • Very good song from a very good group, but Sheena's version perfectly fit the movie. Anybody with a brain who watched the movie recognizes this! Ranks in the top 5 best 007 title songs: Goldfinger, Live and Let Die, Goldeneye, Diamonds Are Forever, and FYEO. It's still sounds modern and the melody lingers in the listener's ears. It rightfully deserved the Grammy and Sheena was so gorgeous they incorporated her into the opening sequence. All anti-Sheena posters here are TOTAL MORONS!

  • @ilovesheenaeaston, Debbie Harry is also gorgeous and has tremendous range as a vocalist.

  • this is far better than Sheena's song!! I can't believe they didn't put it in the movie...

  • wow this is good actually

  • This does't fit....

  • if you enjoy this you ought to check out Cherie Currie's cover of it...

  • This is one of the best Bond themes - shame they never used it.

  • Blondie released their version of For Your Eyes Only on thier 1982 album, The Hunter :)

  • blondies song needs to fit the edit for the visuals to line up with the chorus and drama that is blondies version . the easton song has no guts,no bond excitement,no bond sound, wimpy. blondies lyrics were too abstract for a major motion pic, possibly this is why this wasn t used,or a contractual thing between chrysalis and the movie company.?

  • @ottawamanz actually it wasn't used because blondie had written this, and the producers had already had a song (the theme that was used) and blondie didn't want to perform it, so they went with Sheena Easton.

  • much better then the song in the movie. that in the movie is boring!

  • Comment removed

  • the chorus of this songs reminds me of "from russia with love" theme

  • Harry would also have made the perfect Bond girl back in the day. The ice cool beauty .....

  • sheena easton's is better

  • Blondie u were so for then, mmmmmmm.

  • This song has such a grand epic sound to it, it's so very Bond! Should have been the official song for the movie. The Easton song is great too but it doesn't scream james bond to me like this one.

  • This would have made a brilliant bond theme. What a pity it was never used

  • Classic Blondie 1982 the Hunter Album.

Still excellent song after all these years.

  • this should have been the best bond song ever ,but for that fekin esther rantzhen show and im scottish

  • Is it just me or does this song have a kind of Phantom of the Opera feel to it?

  • james bond isnt a love story, Its about his job to his gun, with women getting in the way with love but its not a love story. This song is excellent it really tells the story unlike the other song.

  • Glad this version didn't make it. Easton's song is beautiful, emotional and the best of them all. But even better with the swedish sensation Ewerina Sewerin singing it

  • u like da cock iyy;)

  • is that supposed to mean something? =P

  • noooop just after that comment u left i thought 2 myself hmmm this guy must luv da cock;)

  • wow. a caveman. not everyday we see people like you these days. fascinating. narrow minded homofobic. sweet.

  • Blondie's version > Easton's version

  • This works even better than Easton's tune as a movie opening theme! It's a shame they couldn't use it some how in the film.

  • This song, like many other Blondie songs, grows on me quite quickly as I listen to it more and more. The melody, mid tempo and guitars of this song sound more Bond to me than the Sheena Easton song but the Sheena Easton is is quite good though it's not quite as Bond-esque as this song.

  • i love this version the best!!

  • excellent.

  • This (Blondie's) song feels more appropriate as a theme tune; I would have put Easton's song somewhere in the movie during an important scene (esp. obviously a romantic one) as a back-up or a support for the movie's main theme, but not actually outright ditch Easton's.

  • I beg the differ.

  • I beg TO differ with you.

  • Exactly. They need an attention getter at the beginning.

  • @Anomaly112 I love Blondie but thought this song was pretty average and didn't suit a Bond theme at all, wisely rejected by the producers i thought. Im not really a fan of sheena easton but her song is far far better than this one.

  • @Russell230870 wrong!! it's sheena eastons song that is pretty average, the producers must have been pissed when they decided to use sheena eastons song over this! the film is one of roger moore's best as bond, the only thing wrong with for your eyes only is sheena easton!

  • @xxxdarkheartedboixxx blondie refused to appear in the opening titles, thats why they wrote a new version of FYEO

  • @garrychelsea well anything would have been better that sheena easton's crappy song!!

  • @garrychelsea no

  • @Anomaly112 I would have put Easton's song in the garbage because Blondie's would be much better

  • how they chose sheena easton ova ths i'll neva knw :O

blondie's theme is so mch betta!!

  • God Sheena was so AWFUL.........shameful that she did the theme for Bond.

    Blondie had it right

  • Whoa man. I feel in LOVE with her song.

  • I agree. Beats the song they made in Quantum of Solace. I love you Alicia keys but you could have been a Really good Bond girl...

  • Sheena Easton's "For Your Eyes Only" is the best Bond theme of them all. And considering "FYEO" and "Nobody Does It Better" are the only two Bond themes nominated for Oscars, I'd say that puts them in a class of their own.

  • You're right For Your Eyes Only is one of the worst.

  • Live and Let Die was also nominated for an Oscar and is widely seen as one of the best James Bond movie themes.

Heck, Paul McCartney of the Beatles wrote that one.

How could you have not known Live and let die was also nominated for an Oscar for best song?

  • debora kerr blondie group rock

  • debbie harry

  • who is the singer of this song?

  • Pathetic - Try Listening to Blondie's version of For Your eyes only! Even Blondie's Rules for Living shopuld have Been teh Prince of Egypts Theme tunes , By far more suited as Movie themes.

  • Sheena Easton has never received an Academy Award. She has, however, won a Grammy.

  • I was wrong, it was not the Oscar... it was a Grammy award that sheena won. Thank you, lol! :O)

  • I just found out about the song and knew obviously that somebody have switched the title song with the theme as I viewed the Tomorrow Never Die's one with Surrender before. So lo and behold, I found this and honestly, out of all the bond themes I have heard, Sheena was the worst one I have heard and this one seem more fitting and bond-ish than her version.

I love how there are alternative songs that were considered for bond themes but never became one.

  • first time i heard this song was at a blondie concert i immediately felt it was bond like

  • sheena easton was a dud. 'morning train' was a stupid irritating song. a song like that could never be a #1 nowadays. thankfully.

  • different time

  • I think this one could have been used in a later Bond film.

  • I think Sheena's song is better. It's more melancholy and matches the Greek girl from the film who is avenging the murder of her parents.

  • This is good. Her voice matches the older themes in the series.

  • Blondie did come up w/ a great 'Blondie' tune that could have been used in Bond film but ... I agree that it might have been easily forgotten & certainly might not have been up for an Academy Award that plus ...

Blondie was an American artist & group's star was on decline that plus ...

Sheena's star at time was on rise, she is British & yes this film was marketed & produced as more romantic. Agreed Sheena's song is sort of out of date, but it did win the Academy Award & I do like it.

  • was this the opening song? i hope it was very bond theme i rekon

  • naw its blondie

the original joint is from Sheena Easton

  • LOL! I'm not exactly sure what this means, but it just made me laugh. :)

  • I like it! Sheena's version is good, but this version has a more Bond ring to it.

  • This song is less catchy but still has resonance nearly 30 years later, while the Sheena version sounds quite out of date

  • this iz better any1 no y it dident gt used

  • there could be a use for this with the new bond. roger 's easton song if fitting.

  • Yes! I always knew this Blondie song was bond like.

  • This is soooo much better than the Sheena Easton version. they should have used this.

  • I love this song. This is way better than the one that they used. I don't like how they actually have Sheena Easton singing in the intro. This was actually my least favorite Bond movie, but this song would have made it a little better.

  • Miss Harry's beautiful haunting melody has a much better tone. I like Miss Easton's too, but this one has gotten my vote if they ever needed an alternate version.

  • I actually like this version better, has that kind of Bond danger feel about it,I dont know why but from the mid 70's to mid 80's the Bond songs seemed to be love ballads, I like the more exciting one that get you in the mood for the action thats to come

  • This fits surprisingly well for a title sequence where Sheena Easton is lip-synching another song on screen!

  • This version is BORING. Very ladi da da da. Were it chosen as the theme song it would have been long forgotten. Sheena Easton's version provokes emotion and was nominated for an Academy Award.

  • I love Debbie Harry, but this version just doesn't fit with the movie's atmosphere. Sheena's is slower and more passionate. It also has a stronger romantic pull that goes better with the underwater scenes.

  • I'm glad that even those who do not prefer this version are at least respective of Blondies version. At the time when they wrote this a lot of crap was happening to everyone in the band, they were at a breaking point.

  • Once again, they did not choose Sheena Easton over Blondie for the theme song. They had asked Blondie to do the song, but Blondie declined, being too busy. Then, they asked Sheena Easton and she agreed. Blondie did the song much later when they had time, but the movie was out already........Blondie's "For your eyes only" would have been much better for the movie.....had it been played a bit slower, I agree.

  • I much prefer Blondie's own "For your eyes only".....it has the sound and feel to a James Bond movie. By the way, they did not turn down Blondie's song for the movie...they just asked them first and Blondie declined because they were just too busy at the time, so they asked Sheena Easton instead. Later when they had more time, Blondie decided to do the song anyway.....and they proved that they can deliver! Blondie rocks!

  • Weak lyrics and unimpressive vocals. I like Blondie, but this just isn't very good. I think they made the right decision to go with Sheena Easton.

  • The way the film's opening SHOULD have been! Easton blows, DEBBIE rocks! Great clip! Thanks for sharing.

  • i love this version the best!!

    kudos to you pal!!

  • Thank you for posting this...But, more than that KUDOS to the person responsible for using Sheena's version. I'm very glad Deborah Harry didn't get shown in the opening sequence. Especially after she didn't perform with the (on hand) original line up of Blondie at their recent induction to the Hall of Fame. Stupid, stuborn, heartless woman.

Sheena is still the only singer to have been shown in the opening title of any bond film. Only for you... Only for you!! ;O)

  • More than likely the producers felt this version sounded far too much like From Russia with Love. Check the music at 1:19 - 1:23, 1:31 - 1:37 and 2:29 - 235.

  • wtf you talking about the original blondie was there just not some of the orinal members, it was here band anyways, here lyrics in almost everything too....

  • 'But guitarist Infante was desperate to take to the stage with his former friends to perform "Heart of Glass," "Rapture" and "Call on Me." When accepting his award from Garbage rocker Shirley Manson, Infante Pleaded, "Debbie, are we allowed?"

She replied, "Can't you see my band is up there?" Infante, Valentine and Harrison had no choice but to leave the stage, leaving Burke, Harry and Stein to perform with more recent members.' do more research on your beloved, Deborah! & STFU!

  • hey you got the most deserved name on youtube, CLOWN, it's good to be upfront about%2

  • You really can't discuss the topic anymore, you just have to resort to a weak attempt to make fun of my name? Oh, well? :O)

I really am glad that you NOW know what happened on that night that Blondie was inducted.

  • no I knew before, and it was no big deal, and blondie (ie Chris, Beb, Clem, and Jimmy) where right.

  • yes fearclown you researched but not to the full extent, the reason Debbie wouldnt let them play is because infante, valentine and Harrison filed a lawsuit against them to stop them playing under the name "Blondie" when they got back together in around '97 - '98 because they didnt want to rejoin. Shes not heartless and to be honest yes they did help in a big way to get Debbie to where she is but if they were so nasty by suing would you play with them again?

  • If I was sued by former bandmates... I would act in the same fashion that Debbie did at the Hall of Fame. She is not heartless after all! I am sorry for my ranting without knowing all of the facts. :O) I would like to see the original band back together though!

  • I think its a great song and video. I like both the Sheena's version and Blondie's one. Depending on ones taste and mood, both would suite the movie just fine. Thanks for sharing LuiECuomo.

  • This would have been a great closing theme at least.

  • It's interesting, I'll give it that... But I think Sheena Easton's song was the right choice.

  • I agree. This song does have a James Bond kick to it. But, this film was targeted as a romantic film, so with Sheena Easton version is better.

  • this is the song they should have used for this film much more Bond like better than that load of soppy rubbish by shena easton

  • Interesting. Not too bad.

  • Neat. Thats such a cool idea to muse over: Blondie doing a Bond cover title tune.

How cool is that ? :)

  • It's not a cover tune... it's the song that was originally written before the producers decided to use Sheena's version instead.

  • Actually Sheena's 'version' is a different song -- although same title. I like Blondie's song, too, but it wouldn't have fit into what producers of film were trying to go to w/ this Bond flick. This might have fit in better w/ Pierce Brosnan Bond film. Also, don't forget that Sheena was from Britian (Scottish) & star at time was on rise, while Blondie was American group that had already broken up. I agree that it might have been able to be used for film if it had been slowed down a bit.

  • What's up with the thumbs down/poor comment marks for those who praise the song?

    What gives?

It's a good song, nontheless, coming from a non-Bond fan & a person who respects and aknowledges Blondie, but not is a big fan of them.

  • I think Blondie's version would have suited the film just fine if it had been slowed down a bit. Check out Cherie Currie's cover of it and you'll see what I mean.

  • good observation steve.

  • I've heard about this song but never heard it - cool!

  • WOW!!! I never ever heard this song but knew it was out there! Thank you so much for posting this!!!!

  • Nice, I prefer Sheena's song but I like it.

  • This is a good song ... seems more suited to the Brosnan Bond. Sheena's version has always been one of my favorites and I have to agree that it's a love song ... after all, she's singing it to 007. What an interesting alternative history this song provides, though. Thanks for posting.

  • You Xant saying that her voice is whiny and stuff, Sheena Eastons song is Boring to be honest and this song has more of a beat. Youve also got to consider that Blondie were only makin this album because they had too they ACTUALLY wantd to split up but couldnt cos of there contract. So they wouldnt of given much of a toss if the album was a flop. Listen to the other songs on the album The Hunter, they are no where as near good as some of there other songs but I think this song is 1 of there best!

  • This is a fantastic version! Debbie Harry's voice is so rich and full. By comparison, Sheena Easton sounds shrill and whiny.
