  • @lepra01 ohhh so Kyivan Rus' was a name for a time period? Like we say Medieval Europe? Wow thats my first time hearing that, I would have to talk to my history prof about that, its actually a good topic for my upcoming essay thanks :) and yes I totally agree with you on the part that history is extremely biased depending on who writes it. It's just the way that we were raised I think plays a huge role in how we interpret our history. Were you born and raised in Russia?

  • @xanyxxxx @vixvis @alexpj19 @econormal and the word "Viy" looks very stupid next to the title "Russian Horror"... The word "viy" does not even exist in Russian language, it's a Ukrainian word... and @TheVixvis please explain to me how does the word Ukraine LITERALLY mean Russian region? I've actually been doing a lot of reading and never have I seen a literal definition of Ukraine meaning "Russian region."

  • @shevadabest11

It's not true. "Kyivan Rus" - don't exists. This state were called "Rus' or Russian land " with capital in Kiev. The name "Kievan Rus'" ( Kievskaya Rus’) was coined in the 19th century in Russian historiography. This name was coined, dude. It was coined for periodization of historical periods.

  • @xanyxxxx @vixvis @alexpj19 @econormal ... i am always open to more civilized and educated discussion, and would love to hear your educated side of the story, however if you will again choose to use vulgar ignorance then please do us all a favour and dont even reply.

  • @xanyxxxx @vixvis @alexpj19 @econormal ... that effect obviously worked as we can see by the comments today. I am not saying that I (as a Ukrainian) am in any way better then a Russian, all I'm saying is that I am different I have my culture, my nation, my pride, my language and in no way am I a "little" brother to you. Yes we are brothers but not "little". and thank you econormal for at least not using vulgar language, if you can show proof that hohol called himself "Russian" then I will agree

  • @xanyxxxx @vixvis @alexpj19 @econormal ... next whoever said, kyiv is second to moscov... while kyiv had 400 churches in the city, moscow was nothing more then a little village. now for the name "Russia". We all know history i hope and know about "Kyivan Rus" Until Peter the Great, there was no such thing as Russia, it was Rus-Ukraine was part of Rus, and before Peter the land "Russia" was called Muscovy. Peter renamed Muscovy into Russia to give it the effect of being the motherland

  • @shevadabest11 Muscovites, Muscovy - not russian words. Russians never called self so. This term was used in Poland and Grand Duchy of Lithuania. There was political causes. Hellenised term Rusia was used from 15 century in official russian documents. And citizens of Moskow and other regions not controlled by Poland and Lithuania called self - russians. It's fact.

  • @shevadabest11 Official title of Peter the Great before 1721 was "Tsar and Grand Duke of the entire Rus" after 1721 "Emperor and Autocrat of All the Russias." "All the Russias" means Great, the Little, and the White Russia. You need read more, not only Grushevsky or ukrain-canadian "historians".

  • @xanyxxxx @vixvis @alexpj19 @econormal ... Gogol was born in the Ukrainian Cossack village of Sorochyntsi,[4] in Poltava Governorate of the Russian Empire, present-day Ukraine. His father Vasily Gogol-Yanovsky, a descendant of Ukrainian Cossacks. Gogol developed a passion for Ukrainian history and tried to obtain an appointment to the history department at Kiev University. Russian critics Stepan Shevyrev and Vissarion Belinsky, reclassified Gogol from a Ukrainian to a Russian writer

  • @xanyxxxx vixvis alexpj19 econormal , first of all, why r u insulting me? if you cant put up a good argument then dont talk at all. I am not fat, i am currently studying law, history and psychology at university and all i'm doing is trying to make a civilized argument, i will even site where i get my information from: Ilnytzkyj, Oleh. "The Nationalism of Nikolai Gogol': Betwixt and Between?", Canadian Slavonic Papers Sep–Dec 2007. Retrieved 15 June 2008.

  • yall all fucking stupid Ukraine is Russia and the name Ukraine literally means Russian region, so what the fuck are u all arguing about?! and that fucking dumbass shevedabest11 is a fucking tool who needs to read more books. hes probably also a Ukrainian Nationalist full of BS

  • I truly hate people who want to draw lines and separate nations--what they got already is a weakened, 3rd world, 2nd rate corrupt countries like "Ukraine" and "Russia"

  • in soivet russia movies are badass

  • i have been to the dikanka village twice for the " sorochinska yiarmarka"

    legendary place

was better back in the CCCP days!!!

  • 1967 is the one

used to scare the shite out of me

my father warned me not to watch it

took me 4 attempts to finish it

    back in the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is a remake of an old UKRANIAN movie that had to be made in Russian because you would be killed for speaking /writing in Ukr. back then.

Used to scare me when I was a little girl in Ukraine...Oy the Russians, always stealing our culture, they love us too much. Always stealing either from us or the French. Get your own!

  • @CoutureSista дура

  • this book from Nikolai Gogolj I Had read a houndred times , there is a group

of Horror stories in One book with a HEADLINE, VECHE U SEOCETU KRAJ DIKANJKE. I really dont know how would i translate on English, that Headline was

for Serbian Readers, but that mean something like this (Night in the village close to window) Vij is the one of the story from that Book ,and they all scary ,real scary,There is one story scare too( terrible revenge) I can wait to see this movie. Gogolj father of Horrors

  • @MultiKretino

Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka

  • Original Viy is better!

  • fuckfaces tell me where i can get this movie

  • It's not out yet, they're still polishing some special effects and other stuff )) it's said to be out in March in Russia

  • thanks dude

  • I love this movie I always imagine myself as a young priest in this movie.

  • "Vij" to wyj po ukraińsku?

  • Wij - ukrainskie slowo i tak samo brzmi. W rosyjskim jezyku takiego slowa nie istnieje. Wij - demoniczna figura z ukrainskich legend.

  • This movie looks AWESOME.

According to IMDB, an American remake is also due out on 2009. Thats cool HOWEVER its being directed by Robert Englund. Hopefully he does a good job but I think IF there were to be an American version of Viy, it should be done by Tim Burton

  • How about- ENOUGH WITH THE REMAKES!!?? If audiences can't appreciate the originals because they were made too long ago then screw 'em! Movie makers and writers go thru years of film school to get degrees to do remakes??!! Gimme a break!

  • The Robert Englund version is no longer happening ;)

Also, the movies could be considered adaptations as opposed to remakes because the source material has been around for so long.

But you are 100 percent correct that the amount of remakes is absolutely ridiculous. I remember when the Spanish horror movie [REC] was still in theaters in Spain when the American version was announced!

  • why is it called russian horror if it took place in ukraine and was written by ukrainian poet hohol? sorry, but I just hate it when ukraine is called russia.

  • It's simple thing. Gogol - great russian writer who was born in Russian Empire. He has written Viy and all his literary work in Russian. Russians make this movie and native language of movie is russian. Hence this movie is Russian movie.

  • ___Someone got to warn you Russia and Ukraine did NOT existed before the 20th century. The Russian Empire was the union of the four Russ, and Kiev (Kiyv) was obviously in, as the "second" russ, after Moscow. You can take the emperor's (tzar) title as a proff, he was The Emperor and Autocrat of the Four Russ, Moscow, Kiev, Navgorod and Kazan.

  • ___Also, as I've said above Ukraine was integrated in Russia, so they call themselves as being "Russians". The nobility of Kyiv was then Russian and they, being connected with the empire and thus, with the world outside, used to write in the language that we know now days as being "Russian". Gogol was part of this nobility and is one of the most important writers of Russian, being also interested in revealing the culture of Ukraine for the rest of the empire.

  • alaenoctis, you're right.

  • The Ukranian cities always talked in the language far close to Russian. In fact, the literary Russian language was formed under a strong influence of Ukrainians, from clergy of the 17th c. to Gnedich, Gogol and many others. Grigory Skovoroda wrote his poems in Russian, as did his philosophical works in Ukrainian, and never minded.

  • "he'd probably be killed"

    LOL, bullshit!

  • His father was a Ukrainian dramatist, his family's friend Kotliarevsky was a great Ukranian poet, popular in the whole Russia. Gogol became one of the best Ukrainian annalists, as well as one of the greatest Russian writers and philosophers, finding no contradiction here. He loved Ukraine and would be disgusted seeing how it is being transformed into a sort of anti-Russia.

  • "He loved Ukraine and would be disgusted seeing how it is being transformed into a sort of anti-Russia."

what does that mean? during Soviet times everyone was taught how critical he was of Tsarist Russia (although he loved the Russian people no doubt), why should he represent the Kremlin now?

  • Gogol was a Hohol, a pure blooded Cossack. Modern Ukrainians were the original Rus, leading up to these times modern day Russian was called Moscovia and it's people the Muscovites or Moskovtsi in the Rus language.

Ukrainians were the original Russians. Not in the way we see Russians today though. As you can see in Taras Bulba, a "Ukrainian Cossack" referred to their land "Ukraine" as Rus and them as Rusy peoples.

Ukrainians are descendants of the Rus people, like Knyaz Vladimir and such.

  • The thing that has divided modern day Russia and Ukraine has been the western world. In reality we are the same people, but due largely to the Polish influence through out the centuries, the language, the culture and many other things have changed to lead these two to separate.

And having a Slavic hating Georgian-Jew Stalin claim so many Ukrainian lives did not help. But the Ukrainians and the Russians of today must look past all that and realize that we need to come together...

    We are Rus

  • @shevadabest11 Gogol was happy to use beautiful, expressive Russian language and he knew how to use this language like no one else. No, go back and clean your trashed room in your mama's apartment, you fat loser with no life

  • @shevadabest11 ye well Ukrainians are Russian, if it makes u feel any better russia came from ukraine

  • @vixvis you people dont get my point. i have nothing against russians although like skiproducts said, the stalin and ussr regime does make things worse, but i just want to be recognized for who i am, i'm sick of hearing russia and russia when its actually ukraine, if its truly russian, ok call it russian, but if its ukrainian then let it be ukrainian. forget this movie, lets just look at klitchko bros, i still see media calling them russian even today. why?

  • @shevadabest11 well ukraine and the european part of russia were 1 land called the Rus, look i really dont have time to explain just look up geography and history if ur so interested, kiev used to be a capital of Russia also, and

  • @shevadabest11 Gogol (who wrote Vij) was a part of Russian Empire, dumb bitch

  • @shevadabest11 Narrow-minded lowlifes like you simply can't comprehend great cosmopolitan people like Gogol who had the best of both worlds, Russian and Ukrainian. It's laughable how some Ukra-nazi try to grab at works of art trying to use it for their little fake agenda

  • @vixvis Exactly, there's really no difference between Russians and Ukrainians, it's greedy politicians who want to weaken Slavic countries who brainwash people to believe so. On paper, I'm half Russian, half Ukrainian, just like so many people from former USSR, let me check if I'm gonna live as Ukrainian or Russian today

  • @xanyxxxx Yes exactly my point, oh i was born in Ukraine but i grew up in Russia my mother is Ukrainian and My father is Russian, thanks for understanding me brother.

  • @xanyxxxx I'm a ukrainian, and people in those days woul've been killed and or imprisoned if they even so much SPOKE of Ukrainian pride. Ukraine for Ukrainians, you're probably the kind of person that would cheer if the Moskals invade us with tanks.

  • @dimitry246 I'm an American, betch, so shut your dirty trap neo-Nazi wannabe. I don't want to go to your dirty Ukraine, neither to Russia, to live like a slave. I'm talking about CULTURE and great Russian-Ukrainian writer Gogol, not the fake political boundaries made by greedy politicians (whose slave you are).

  • @xanyxxxx Then wtf do you go here and spew your hate around, you obviously know jack shit about Ukraine and Russia and her delicate history, and you're an American, the land of the free(mcdonalds) and the home of the brave(burger king). The fact that your dumb ass idiotic country invaded iraq for no reason and elected the biggest jackass on the planet for two terms says enough.Your country has enough flaws, dont go pointing out others. Now go to your walmart, and break down boxes for your paycheck.

  • @xanyxxxx So if I reply to myself that automatically means i aim my material at myself? My reply was aimed as a final contribution to my first statement, but since you're (again) to stupid to realise that,I refuse to further answer and/or reply to your ridiculous, and downright STUPID claims, the truth is and always will be; You are a (+-) fifteen to 17 year old little shit, don't know ANYTHING about what you're saying, and are (and always will be) a huge fail.I feel deeply sorry for you parents.
