@Davyleek No, they threw themselves out of the window because their sins couldn't be washed away anymore. With the laundry place out of business, they were overwhelmed by the guilt of their devious deeds. They couldn't live under the weight of all that guilt, so it crushed them - hence suicide.

I saw this original episode when I was growing up. Not sure what made me think of it yesterday, but I'm grateful to find it here today. TFTD had some awesome episodes, but this was by far my favorite!
