I proposed this idea to BP, I sent this to them at the time of the accident, but the managers who ran this process were not the best. BP still used this process but very late, they did recovered a lot of OIL. I agree that it was big pressure preventing this pipe, but by putting a bigger pipe and using a clamp to hold them, pipes will be sealed very well with the pipe coming from BOP, and it will have eliminated the oil release after cutting it first at the BOP until a better solution was found.
I used to hate bp but now it's not all that bad. Hey, if they capped that well in about two months that's fantastic. Even the CEO is A OK. I've changed my mind about them. I don't see anymore oil spilling into the gulf, although I still think all of this could have been prevented if that stupid bp manager didn't decide to replace the drilling mud with seawater which caused the explosion in the first place. BP needs to put more safety measures into their work.
its a very good idea, the thing is that the oil comes out at an incredible amount of preassure. it would be very difficult to but the bigger tube in top of it

@Judeau0311 well when you drill a hole in the sea floor then you have to have a pipe all the way down to the sea floor other wise you can't get the oil out. And just what do you think the blowout preventer is. It's a failsafe device to seal off the leak should one happen. So who's faultis it that the failsafe device didn't function like it was designed to do. Maybe they should be required to stack 2 blowout preventers on top of each other to double the saftey measures.
Tycoon monopoly are now borrowing the arrogant religious of multinational corporations to confuse all of our common sense of the material world and twisted all our domestic and well intended technology, operations and infrastructures into major disasters.
BP and the oil industry is trying to play that the 5000 feet deep mass media psychology so they can take away our common senses of general physics just like they can take away our daily economic efforts by manipulate oil prices in Wall St.
what they should do is to put a pipe ON TOP OF THE DOME. as long as the dome is heavy enough to counteract the buoyancy and pressure of the water and oil, the dome stays down and acts like a reverse funnel which channels the oil up.
you have know idea what your talking about bud. you cut that pipe and you'll have 100 times more oil leaking then there is now. there is no why to stop the leak or contain it. this wont stop tell the relief wells are done, thats the only way.
As sealhunter5 mentioned, there is the pressure from the oil spill itself, the water pressure at 5000 feet and you need a 5000 feet long pipe as well. Ya, lets excluded all those factors and sound like This is why they have a 100 ton concrete dome to counter the lifting force (which wasn't enough apparently)
Buddy, this is not replacing your leaking garden hose
we need to get off oil, good vid. i doubt what we are told is truthful. this diagram may be a lie to begin with. too many unknown's to many lies. there should be a fleet of independent engineers at the site of this crime, and get bp outta there... criminals
@vidarjens Because they are owned by the energy corporations. Ask yourself how many commercials have been on the news channels for all of these energy corporations/ banks.
@sealhunter5 The numbers got mixed up on the internet. The average gulf of Mexico oil well has a pressure of 15,000 psi. When they said 70,000 they were probably referring to 70,000 barrels and someone put a one in front of that.
yep slide a larger cap over the top and seal a flange over the old sht....the pressure will make it flow out the bottom as the oil fills the pipe...water can only float so much...so put a cap flange and a pump...
im not an engineer, so i have no idea. but what happened to that video you posted a couple days ago about the government discovering time travel, or whatever it was. that was some pretty crazy shit, thought you went nuts or something.
And you are right... this is - or "should be"- common sense.
Whoever thought of the "dome capture" idea has got to be a real idiot in my opinion, which leaves me to wonder if BP has any engineers left with "common sense".

"I am a Florida licenced Mechanical Contractor and inventor certified in fuel
line piping. I wrote the Department of the Interior with a design to cut
a large hole in an oil tanker. Sinking the ship over the leak capturing the
oil for weeks while other plans are readied. Oil entering would displace the water. It could also be raised and/or pumped away." "

What is the psi at the leak? I heard everything from 200psi to 70,000psi.

The oil companies have trillions of dollars, they wouldn't let disasters like this happen, and continue to happen unless they wanted too.

170,000 psi there is nothing by man can move a pipe over that kind of pressure!
At a 8 inch diameter pipe, lifting force of that is 2,135,200 lb. of force !
What on earth can be subjected to that kind of force 5000 feet below the surface!
