  • Oh so amazing! Beautiful creatures Indeedy. :)

  • i wouldnt want to accidently get in the front of that

  • wow great creatures

  • o yea it was in ballyliffin also...lol

  • Aren't they one of the "harmless" Sharks?

  • i love the water sound effects....i dont know why...

  • Those Sharks scare the living shit out've me....

  • yeh two fucking right, i would have shit my self if i was in that water

  • Yeah :|

  • i was surfing 2day nd there was one of these beside me.....i nearly died..

  • lol, that's so amazingly crazy

  • it dosent scare me because basking sharks are harmless against humans unless you harpoon them.

  • Oh dear!

I was paddeling down Galway Bay and one of those things tackeled me!

Scared the hell out of me too ;)

  • I know Basking Sharks are harmless, but I'd pee myself if I were in the water and saw that. Kind of an aquaphobic so going out on the real deep water scares me anyways.

  • yes me to i also heard they only have a diet of plankton thats the only thing they eat!

  • Lol same man. they just look plane freaky. id hate to be swimming and see that infront of you when you turn around.... DANM

  • dudes i was surfing of fanad head that summer and we were just after geting out of the water when everybody started shouting WTF IS THAT.we almost craped ourselfs.

  • I saw one when I was younger. I was like 11 and we were diving of our sailboat pretty far from the coast of Cape Cod and there was one feeding really close to us. To this day is the scariest fucking thing thats ever happened to me. ha

  • ballyliffen british!!! typical colonial superiority

  • Nice that the UK, with a general lack of anything big and exotic, is heavily surrounded by the worlds second largest fish.

Not so optimistic about the amount of recent great white sightings, though..

  • typical "British" reaction to call a part of IRELAND the UK. FYI tomsega.. Ballyliffen is in Donegal which is a part of Ireland NOT the UK.. Just in case you didnt know IRELAND hasn't been part of the UK since 1921...

  • What a laughable reaction! Okay then, 'British Isles'. That's still what it's called I'm afraid. This Irish shark must have a lovely accent. (BTW, I like the Irish, and hate xenophobia, but as far as I can tell the world only knows Ireland for Catholicism, conservatism, famine and terrorism. And Guiness. So you may as well be a bit more pro-British!)

  • Come on now.. thats a bit ignorant.. i only pointed out the a fact that your education system obviously chooses to ignore. still i shouldn't have expected anything more from someone who comes from a country that has done more damage to world affairs (second only to the USA in the hate stakes) than any other country. As for "terrorism" Britain deserves what it gets for trampling all over the nations of its "Empire" and bringing misery to the peoples of those countries..

  • I'm not proud or ashamed of the British empire. I don't think it's black and white. Certainly Ireland is one of the countries it had an awful relationship with. But its not as if the Irish 'chose' to be good guys in world affairs - they didn't have the option! Any dominant empire is going to make massive mistakes, but that arrives from the power itself, not from the conscious evil within a people.

  • Britain brought prosperity to many places. Look at Hong Kong. Its a complex mixture of progression, protection, oppression. It wasn't violent in its agenda like Nazi Germany, and generally dismantle its empire in a benign and conciliatory way. We also did as much to save the world from Germany, Russia, Italy, Japan. You think they had more positive, loving ideologies?! The British were bastards - but lesser bastards.

  • ANYWAY: "Ballyliffin (Baile Liffin) is a small village located in the North Western tip of Inishowen, County Donegal, Republic of Ireland."!!!

How the hell am I supposed to know?! You're just itching to register your disguist at an English person. It wasn't ME who oppressed you, and its nationalism and 'us and them' thinking that causes all this trouble anyway!

    Good day, sir!

  • Hahaha hes cool i reamember a dog fish swam up beside me and thear acutly something to worry about cus they to bite and have teeth but i got away haha and there like not even a quarter that things size that thing doesn't even have any teeth

  • Wow.. that is just so scary =/

  • although they dont kill or wutever it wuld still be scary as hell! that guy is freakin crazy ! i wuld not be in that water while those thing are in there i wuldnt even be in the damn ocean!

  • they cant kill ya but amagine how scary it would be if it swam right past you!!

  • I wonder what other sharks besides this and the whale shark feeds like that?

  • for example the megamouth shark.

  • I wasn't really expecting that shark filter feeding. What about rays? They're not really sharks but do they also feed like that?

  • Well Manta Rays do, they are also the biggest species of all rays. I think smaller rays are prey for crustations or shellfish etc.

  • I used to call them yawning fish growing up. I had a National Geographic that had an article on them and I remember thinking they looked really bored.

  • awesome i want it as a pet :D id call him/her fish :)

  • I LOVE LAMP

  • nice, basking sharks are pretty cool, get them in the UK now

  • i know there the best! :D

  • ya i commented on this like 2 months ago. d after i based it off of my previous studys of sharks from years ago. but after i commented i decided to start resaerching the awesome and fantasic world of sharks. i no now that sharks are smarter then we used to think they were. so that explains most of my stupidity and i know that basking sharks eat small fish and plankton and i know how freindly they are. most sharks are. it was just a joke when i said theyd eat you.

  • whats a DALPHIN? that must be even worse than a basking shark!!

and you call me a dumbass... idiot

  • ? wat the hell?

  • I know it cant eat you, but id still fill my swim trunks if i got anywhere near that things mouth

  • holy shit thats the scarriest thing ive ever seen...

  • You know what's interesting? Those things have huge mouths and are among the largest fish on earth, but their diet consists entirely of organisms that are nearly microscopic!

  • Wow John,pretty amazing footage!!

    Sean

  • wow, i wonder what it would do if u swam in its mouth

  • that would be a horrible idea.

  • I have visions of myself being swallowed up by a basking shark. I just see chunks of me floating out the big gills.

  • it would just spit you out, watch jackass the movie, he does that with a whale shark (similar to the basking shark) and it just spits him out

  • it probably would spit him out, but probably not, i mean a whale shark is acctually a fish and would probably no that it wouldnt be able to swallow it (and completely digest it)but a shark is much stupider then a whale shark

  • one word for that basking monster and holy shit that thing is big but it's beautiful.

  • yup!

  • holy crap. good thing they eat only plankton lol

  • That, and human babies. They've even been known to come on land to feed upon them!!!

  • one of them got my baby sister! Now my life is wonderful!

  • you guys are sick bastards

  • Seriously. Bluenote, no, that ain't true.

  • Is so - they pack themselves into a VW bug (usually about six per car) disguised as nuns and clergy men. It's horrible sh*t.

  • lol!
