  • this is fucking GOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the best part is from 0:01 to 7:53

  • Fucking nice song.

  • absolute beauty

  • Aaaaaw! Eargasm!

  • If you guys like this, Check out Alcest.

    Sounds very similar :D

  • @raven66614 alcest and agalloch, also early empyrium and Dornenreich. Music from the soul.

  • 3:20-3:38 best part

  • Great song and awesome vocals.

  • This is kvlt

  • Guys act normally, they are very diffrent bands, ulver didn't only made black and folk metal, but electronic and ambient too. The leader, Garm, singed with arcturus and made la masquerade infernale adn the sham mirrors, the best avant garde metal albums ever. Still opeth's approach is great, very teathrical and full of excellence. But you can't compare a black/avant-garde/electronic band with a progressive death metal with some folk elements band it's like compare apples and cheese!

  • ulver waren einzigartig.einer der größten sounds aus dem genre "atmosphärischer black metal".

    NORWEGIAN BLACK METAL !!!

  • 6:14 Magic Moment

  • Opeth inspired? Actually, sort of sounds like a bad cover, even.

  • @GibsonSGStandardUSA Erm, what?

  • @GibsonSGStandardUSA Opeth sucks, bye.

  • @sfour i'm sorry, i cannot help but laugh at you.

  • @PcCAvioN Did I hurt you? Opeth still sucks, I don't know how someone could talk about Opeth here, on Ulver's video.

  • @sfour excuse me sir, you are on the internet, and the proper term is Umad bro? and i repeat my original statement.

  • @PcCAvioN Not expected. Kids from /b/.

  • @sfour Opeth eats most of the music ever produced alive. Without even moving.

  • @redl3ss metal kids :(

  • @sfour sorry about that. I'm into Beethoven, Miles Davis and John Cage. In my opinion, Opeth rules. They fucking nail everything they do. Give them a chance man. It's a friendly piece of advice. Have fun.

  • @redl3ss Not a bad taste at all. But the last time I listened to Opeth I didn't notice anything different from other mainstream metal bands.

Btw I will give them a try. I would appreciate a recommendation, if you wouldn't mind.

  • @sfour check out To Bid You Farewell off their Morningrise album. It's a beautiful song, almost rock, evokes all kinds of strange feelings. You can also check songs off Damnation which does not feature death metal, or Ghost Of Perdition and The Leper Affinnity for a heavier hint of them. I personally am a fan of progressive rock too, so their blending it with death metal is really intriguing to me.

  • @sfour Opeth is awesome, Ulver is awesome. End of story.

  • I enjoy all Ulver, but this is by far their best work...and incredibly influential.

  • this is song is everything!!!!!

  • so sweet.

  • You can trace the Agalloch, Alcest, Summoning etc sound, and as good and incredible as they are in their own rights, you'll just find yourself back at this remarkable album. hail Ulver.

  • Possibly my favourite Black Metal song.

    Ofver hendes Hode

    Det drybber fra Qviist

    Draabe for Draabe some Blodet

    Fra Kroppen til Jesu Christ

    Pigen:

"Aa, eismal i ein uggin Skog

    Eg kjenn at i Kveld

I Kveld tenkjer ingen paa meg"

  • Absolutly beautyfull!

  • black metal can be dirty/aggressive but also very calm and pleasant ( = it can be many things

  • @zacjar12 Nattens Madrigal is both dirty/agressive and calm/pleasant. :P HAIL ULVER!

  • my favorite black metal song is I Am The Black Wizards, but this comes close too

  • One of the best songs ever!!! I only understand few words because im Finnish!!! I can listen this over and over again!!! Garm is probably the best Black Metal singer ever...

  • This album is a masterpiece. A gem in the middle of a mountain. I would give anything to walk through that forest while listening to this album.

  • Too good to be true!

  • Nice track

  • what metal is this? this doesnt sound like black metal at all

  • @gunnari14 It IS Black Metal. Black Metal is extremely diverse.

  • @gunnari14 It is black metal with folk metal influences. Their probably most pure black metal is their Hymns.

  • When I first heard this song in 1997, it changed my life.

  • @Bukkake yes.

  • Best black metal album witch Thorns

  • beautiful

  • i wish this was my native language so i wouldn't have to keep looking at the translations...

  • the lyrics are for the most part written in archaic Danish so it's no one native language if you are picky :P

  • @robho596 Norsk er også et godt bud?

  • @DOPOJAM70 Nah, det er primært "old dansk" og noget norsk med stærk dialekt.

    "De ventede Tosens Hiemkomst

Hun vaer I morck Skog faren vild

Sneens Tepper hafde bredet sig hen

Paa Stien hiem - hendes eeneste Ven

    Om hun bare kunde

    Folge Stiernernes Baner

    Ey hun skulde vildfare

    Blandt disse morcke Graner"

  • Amazing song!!!

  • a classic!!!!!!!!

  • black metal master!!! death to false blackmetal!

  • Awesome.

  • Jag läste nu texten for förstagången.... helt otroligt... jag har lysnat på denna skiva i snart två år. Satan vad jag blev sentemental, men vem kan klaga när det är för ett sådant mästerverk.

  • Ulvers first three albums are all masterpieces.

  • I love nordic black metal from the 90,s. Every time i go on travell to Northern europe i like to listn to it. This Ulver album has a unike folk, dark, pagan feeling on it.

  • yeah i would don't mind spend a couple of bucks to have an album

  • I agree with, Sanisaninja..This is allmost the best Black Metal album ever! You people, who don`t know nothing about this music, please do NOT argument, nothing about it! Just stay in London or somewhere else with your oppinions, about this music, because you don`t know nothin`about this kind of music..

  • @Cynis666 this and Immortals "at the heart of winter" are, in my opinion, tied for best black metal album ever.

  • a masterpiece. removes all the posery elements of the genre and all the satanic elements, and leaves you with a pure half hour of some of the greatest black metal songs ever recorded to vinyl. my desert island disc :)

  • ok i apologize for labeling you and if you dont like reggae fine but the old stuff is really good

  • or maybe your a narrow minded metalhead that cant appreciate real good music

  • i LOVEEE this :D

I Troldskog Faren Vild! Wooo :D

  • Impossible to buy bm in the uk. I always have to get stuff from places like Norway and Sweden. HMV stores only sell shitty chart music

  • you can get darkthrone,de mysteriis dom sathanas and some burzum in hmv and fopp.i usually go to amazon for my stuff tho

  • @Thunderdome616 im from australia an even in the short time i was in london i found lots of metal cd stores. you're an idiot.

  • @lokisunwheel I don't live in london. I have to go on the bus just to get to a HMV store. There are no metal stores where I am.

  • This song is truly beautiful. It's so peaceful and harmonic...

  • this whole album

    just brings me to be

    content with my surroundings

  • You Got the reason!!!

  • I was 17 when this came out. And this song feels like being 17, free, strong, naive, sad, happy, lucky to be alive, sometimes wishing to be dead, FUCKIN GREAT!!!

  • Great song!

You dont need to scream to make Black Metal!

  • Magnificent 1st album I recently discovered, plus you seem to have a nice selection ...thanks, check out some similar tunes in mines..

  • This beats Darkthrone, Immortal, Satyricon, Dimmu Borgir and Emperor.

I know the comparison is not really fair. I know that too. I'm just so enthusiastic about this stuff right now.

I'm a black metal afficionado too. As such a being I don't appreciate too much being called "narrow minded".

With kisses and a blackened dagger in my heart!!!

  • Dimmu Borgir was really weird, but I think ur right.

  • @ParisChien dimmu borgir are beated by everything...they suck man...not even black metal

  • But I meant the Stormblåst album. It was so good, remember?

  • @ParisChien yeah man...all of their albums are good...they make awsome music...truth be told...but they are posing black metal to make money...they are not black metal...ulver could pose their post metal ambient style with corpse paint and satanic stuff..instead they give you their music as they feel they should.

  • @ParisChien check out Windir my friend and be amazed

  • @ParisChien Since when is listening to only black metal being narrow minded. It's already better than 99% of what the norm mainstream is listening to.

  • @ParisChien I accept almost all of the artists you mentioned. But allow me to be sceptical about emperor. After all, Ulver craft art of the finest quality in many fields, far away from black metal but Emperor are a force to be reckoned with just for the masterpiece that is "Anthems to the welkin at dusk".

  • @ParisChien wow that's quite a statement you've made. I have to disagree, as much as I like Ulver. Immortal beats ALL opposers. Dimmu Burgerking can just go away. Emperor is just brutal and fucking black metal psychosis. Ulver is like lullaby black metal. Its just got its own flavor so you can't say its better or worse.

Except for Immortal, who just fucking win.

  • Let met reiterate; Ulver is awesome but its just a bit softer than typical black metal (on this album anyways). Garm is one of my favorite black metal artists for his uniqueness and originality. I love his work with Borknagar :D

  • @ParisChien I hear you. I have been involved with black metal since early to mid 90's and this is by far still one of the most enduring, original and best mood evoking art there is.

  • @ParisChien I don't even see this as Black metal.. Sure it has a harsh sound and all.. but it isn't Black Metal... It's so much more..

  • @azrael666ethereal It's black metal with a pretty heavy folk influence.

  • This song has excellent atmosphere and production.

  • Their music has nothing to do with prog black..they were black metal with some acoustic

  • This album is so expensive on amazon >_> i need it!

  • I live in norway and they sell it here for a normal cd price...thanks for that

  • I wanna live in norway D: btw Tommycoxisdaman is my second account i use to watch 18+ videos

  • no..hard men..ulver are not gay..you are so close minded..music is not only black metal..wake up sheeps..

  • I agree,what happened to them??? lol

  • The band is still amazing now. Maybe if you took some time to stop being narrow minded and listen to music other than black metal for a change

  • If making bilions was equal to quality....probably those reggae/hip hop beaners would be the best. music ever....but...just no. Ulver's music comes from the soul, not from dancing whores and bling bling.

  • reggae is cool

  • Kan vi ikke få Ulver til Danmark? I kan få Ståle tilbage...

  • Måske, men de må gerne kalde Ståle hjem alligevel,

  • Fan Norge, utmärkt!

  • my god this album is such a masterpiece.

  • @ssjblind maybe you hate me now,but finaly i figured(since some years) out that this kind of opening riff in other rithm could be found by the deftones too.the rest equals to modern enslaved records check them out !

  • to define the majesty of this album is impossible. made at a time and place where templates for this kindof thing were missing. now black metal has become so jive and there are names for the different styles. just imagine one thing no one told these guys how to structure this stuff it came strait from divine insporation. communion with nature. this is true art not kitsch. i hope that some people here that are blind understand between real art and kitsch. creation must transcend creator

  • 5:42 onward, but not to take away from the majesty of the whole.

  • Dödheimsgard - kronet til konge is on pair with Bergtatt's brilliance imo.

Not the same style but nevertheless brilliant both of them.

  • holy hell, i hadnt even heard that album. what a delight to the ears. youre right absolute brilliance. pleasantly surprised, now i will get that album. thanks man

  • im only not giving you thumbs down because of the first part of your comment

  • say what? i dont give a fuck if you give me thumbs up or thumbs down, hate to shatter your dreams homie

  • did you actually just call me homie? lol...

  • Lol. Real bands change their tastes and do what they want, not suck the dicks of fans. Ulver had the balls to go in the direction they wanted, and if you're going to restrict yourself because something isn't 'true' or some bullshit, then you really need to learn a greater respect for music.

  • Ulver's recent stuff is so much better than their black metal. They made some good black metal, do not get me wrong, but the area in which they truly shine lies elsewhere.

  • you obviously didnt read a word i wrote. go drown yourself in a lake and spare the food and oxygen which you take away from nature, pathetic human waste

  • you put too much effort in trolling on the internet. its like you almost are vindicative. you need to die in a fire.

  • I first liked this when I was a kid, maybe 11 or 12. Great stuff.

  • God damn, I have heard about this band for so long and never checked them out. I am so ashamed of never listening to them sooner. These guys are amazing! Thanks for uploading!

  • Those comments below prove something I heard.

    Music kills piracy.

  • Very well put.

  • add "&fmt=18" to any song's youtube url to get higher quality

    try it out!

  • Listening to this, I feel like I'm in that cold twilight forest on the cover. That is how immersive this album is.

  • I guess there are still albums available...Check out ebay...

  • I did that, they dont have it..dammit

  • Any Chance of getting this Album?

  • I found it in a small disc shop, so I don't think he's really rare

  • The album is in every shop where I live. Mostly all of the ulver albums. But I live in norway.

  • I wish the shops around here were like that. The only shop with metal around my place is facing the dance aisle...

  • You are so lucky you live there. I have to live over here in United States where nobody knows shit about good music. I usually end up having to pay around 40 bucks for an import.

  • usa = shit. usa led the world strait into a shithole. why people of the world allowed themselves to be taken over by america and the jews i will never know. want to be famous and rich? make a movie about the holocaust or about homosexuals.

  • I agree completely, I hate it here

  • where do you live man. boston here

  • Oklahoma

  • damn that sucks. probably much worse than boston

  • UK's Amazon has it, so maybe the US's one has it as well. Worth a check anyway

  • I checked out Amazon here in the US they dont really sell it, the only time i found a copy for Sale it was for 49$!!!.

  • My favorite Ulver album

  • great concept album!

  • Good stuff. Also like their recent works.

  • Beautiful Wolves.

  • I see two on ebay right now. One is up for $40 and the other is for highest bid.

  • or alternately, amazon cd, 19 dollarsish

  • "Aa, eismal i ein uggin Skog

    Eg kjenn at i Kveld

I Kveld tenkjer ingen paa meg"

  • Hard to believe Garm was 16 when he did this...

  • Wait, he was 18, not 16. Still incredible that you can do something that great this young.

  • EMKTTHL: On the Demo-tapes he was of course 16!

  • Anyone got a translation for the lyrics?

  • Search them on metal-archives (really great site btw). There are lyrics in english. You will see, just search them on that site.

  • Thanks.

  • is it possible to find Bergtatt somewhere? i can't find it anywhere :S but i just LOVE this album...

  • try ebay?? or else go download it from soulseek, just enter the blackmetal room.

  • Soulseek?

  • to go google and search for soulseek. it's a program for downloading music from other people..

  • yeah but...what you mean with " enter the black metal room" ? is there a server for every music genre?

  • yes, but not that fancy, you find the most folk, viking metal in the black metal room.. there's never anyone in folk metal room:)

  • ..but to download this cd is not the same as to have them!!I have them bought from ebay yesterday and i'm very proud to have this masterpiece!

  • I agree

  • sometimes ebay.. saw there the cd a few times, but ever missed them.

  • i love this album, but my copy was destroyed. can anyone send me an mp3 copy of the album?? i'd greatly appreciate it, thanks

  • Yes thats right!! 5*

  • This song is one ov the best black metal songs ever. Bergtatt maybe is the best black metal album ever done.

    Ulver - Quintessential black/folk metal.
