  • Thank you for viewing and commenting!

  • This is an awesome charity! I always feel bad for the my teachers in high school who had to pay for extra supplies. I'm sure most of them do and it's not for themselves.

  • A Gift for Teaching really is a great organization. And you're right - I think every teacher pays for classroom supplies out of their own pocket. And since teachers are often severely underpaid for the time and work they put in, that's just horrible.

  • agreed

  • Good luck with your promotion!. DFTBA!

  • My favorite teacher was Mr. Bowman, my high school choir teacher. He taught me to dream and how to let go through music.

  • And if not for Mr. Bowman, Carb Load @ Cracker Barrel may not have a lead singer!

    Thanks, Mr. Bowman!

  • So true. :) I probably wouldn't have ended up as a librarian either (or a Nerdfighter for that matter!)

  • Mr. Bowman definitely decreased worldsuck, then.

  • Yes he did!

  • What a great video! I've had a lot of great teachers. I would have to say that my favorite was Miss Helms, my first grade teacher, who sparked a lifelong love of reading.

  • That's great that Miss Helms helped you learn to love reading!

Thanks for commenting, and... best wishes!

  • awesome-ness

Do you have a favorite teacher?

  • My favorite teacher was my AP US History teacher junior year. Her name was Mrs. Arrington and she was amazing. She taught and prepared us SO well for the AP and the way she told silly little stories concerning what we were learning was awesome. I plan on visiting her soon!

  • After visiting her, you can come back and post how she's doing!

Yay for Mrs. Arrington and AP US History!

  • My favourite teacher was Mrs.Dawson. I don't even really know why I took that class, but I wouldn't have changed it. She was fun and really easy to talk to, and she was so out there that her class was always fun. Now that she's retired she comes back as a supply teacher sometimes and it's great catching up with her :)

  • Three cheers for Mrs. Dawson!

  • Nice video - My favorite teacher was M. Besnard -she actually taught and challenged and gave useful feedback and advice, and was... awesome!

  • I'm glad you had M Besnard in your life! Yay teachers!!

  • My fav teacher was definitely my 3rd grade teacher, Mr. Rawls. He was my homeroom teacher when I moved to a new school and made me feel welcome. It didnt hurt that we was fun and awesome too. :)

It's a great charity, Matt! DFTBA!

  • Nerdfighter cheers go out to Mr Rawls for being awesome! Hoo hah!

  • My favorite teacher is my 11th grade english teacher. When I was a junior in High School I had a very rough time, and this teacher, saw in in the hallway the day I planned to end everything It was the first time in a very long time that I smiled at school. He knew something was wrong and on my way to my car, he grabbed my arm and said "See you tomorrow. Promise me." so i promised. and because of him and that promise that I would always be in class the next day, I made a p4a vid today.

  • Wow! Thanks for sharing that with us! I'm glad that he was able to turn things around for you!

And thank you for continuing to be awesome.

  • beautiful video great cause!!

    DFTbA!!

Would you mind sharing with the viewers who your favorite teacher is and why? A little viewer poll...

    Best wishes!

  • My favorite teacher would be my US history teacher, Mr. Riddle. He was sarcastic, cynical and bitter. But it was funny, and he really did care for the individual success of his students. He inspired my sarcastic sense of humor and my cynical outlook on life. He also inspired me to actually learn something...so give to this cause. We need to help teachers like this reach more and more people

  • That's awesome. I'm glad Mr. Riddle was nothing like Tom Riddle from Harry Potter! Thanks for sharing.

    Best wishes!!

  • Would you mind commenting about who your favorite teacher is and why? Maybe share a favorite school story?

  • great video!

    dftba!

  • Thanks for commenting and for being awesome!

Can you share with my viewers who your favorite teacher was and why?

  • Oh and my favorite teacher was in 5th grade Miss Gibbs, she believed that learning was better outside the classroom so we had constant field trips to just about everywhere

  • What was your favorite field trip?

I remember going to the tide pools in California when I was growing up. Good times.

My favorite teacher was Miss Zirpoli in 4th grade. But I've had lots of great teachers.

  • My favorite, that's a tough one but I am gonna have to say the science fair the K-State University had....they had a live cow with a hole in its side you could reach in and feel the stomach and stuff.

  • That's really kind of weird... A live cow with a hole in it?

Poor cow! But great that it was a teaching opportunity that you remember to this day!

  • yeah I can only imagine what the cow was thinking having all these young kids feeling the inside of body.

  • OH MY GAWD?!! Is someone doing a charity on the cow? Because they SHOULD!

  • It's too late for me to do a P4A video to save cows with holes in them...

How do you save them anyway? How do you fix a cow with a hole?

I guess the thing to do is stop people putting holes in cows in the first place. The have things called CAT scans and MRIs to see inside live cows. We don't need to give them portholes.

  • I am all for anything that helps teachers and their students.

  • Me too! Teachers are awesome and I have nothing but respect for people who devote their lives to helping children learn.

  • yay! fantastic job!!!

    DFTBA!

  • Thanks for commenting! Keep being awesome!

  • Viewer challenge: Share who your favorite teacher was and why in the comments!

  • Thanks for choosing this charity as your P4A charity...:)

  • Thanks for commenting, AShiningstar17! I hope you have a great day!

  • Awesome video! I am a teacher, and even though not in FL...it is so true that teachers...who may not have a lot to be spending extra on to begin with...spend on their classes and students.

  • Thanks so much! Where do you teach?

I know there are other free stores of similar nature for teachers in other states. If you're interested in finding one, you could contact A Gift For Teaching and they could probably put you in touch with a local resource...

Or maybe you or another viewer could start your own!

AGFT was started by one man who found out about a bunch of paper that was being thrown away. He put it in his trunk and said that he'd find a good use for it...

  • Well I am currently not teaching at the moment but I still am a teacher...once a teacher always a teacher...

I live in northern KY near Cinncinnati and there actually is a store called Crayons to Computers, that I have been able to visit in the past. It is specifically for schools in lower income areas. It is a wonderful place!

  • Crayons to Computers sounds great.

A Gift For Teaching is set up for schools that participate in the Free Lunch program to target the lower income schools as well. Though teachers who volunteer are also awarded shopping days, even if they are not in those schools.

I've only seen a little bit of Cincinnati. I remember driving across the border from KY and seeing just a string of highway patrol nailing people for speeding. I went to the Cincinatti zoo, too.

  • Oh the Cincinnati Zoo is gorgeous this time of year...they do this Festival of Lights thing. I've only been twice I think...once when I was really young and a few years ago. So beautiful!

  • I only vaguely remember it - it's been a while. I went in September 1997. So no festive lights. I remember the polar bear kept walking in circles, which I hear is a sign of boredom. He needed enrichment in his habitat.

  • Oh wow that was awhile ago! It has changed a lot since then. They built a new education center, and a new giraffe exhibit, and probably more too.

During my student teaching I got to go twice within a few months, but I haven't been for a a few years now.

  • I challenge you to go back soon and vlog the experience!

  • great vid! DFTBA!
