I know that Barrowman himself is gay, and it's fine of course. Only in my opinion this song isn't just about being "gay" or "straight"; there can be OTHER ISSUES than your sexual orientation in life that can cause unjustified shame. A very common feeling is: "I'm just not good enough. I'm a failure!" Every day, everywhere in world people tell themselves this. Mostly it's not true. Look in the mirror or shout it from the roof: "Hey World! I am what I am. And what I am need no excuses!"

I'm not a fan of John Barrowman (he comes across as too American and too formal or whatever, not enough emotions I suppose) but this song works for him because he seems to be in the right mood. Perhaps this is because he feels the emotions inherent in the theme of the music and can respond to them better with acting than he can for other songs. He feels this music - it ties into his life - and he is become apart of his character. What a wonderful marriage.

Can I just say how EXTREMELY uplifting this song is? As a teenager, I know I'm always having to conform to society, etc, whilst stereotype upon stereotype gets heaped on, and this song just sums up the key to releasing inhibitions and really saying, I am what I am.
