  • Tonya is so much better than Scmancy NAncy

  • 20 years ago today! This is still a performance for the ages.

  • Tonya was a very athletic skater. She had such incredible strength in here jumps!

  • Wow! Perfect!

  • kerrigan sucked balls

  • Brilliant.....This is one of the very best free skates in the history of ladies figure skating. Tonya was one of the most athletic female skaters. People can say all they want about Tonya but man what a skater!

  • AMAZING PERFORMANCE!!! one of my favorite performances!!!

  • Absolutely fantastic. 1st rate performance. Personally I thought she should have won Worlds in 1991 and her performance there was not as strong as here. A natural performer with tremendous talent - a great shame it was wasted. One of her biggest mistakes was ditching Dody Teachmann. She could have been one of the greatest ever - in the league of Witt, Ito and Yamaguchi.

  • @premierrules I met Dody Teachman in Sun Valley in the summer of 1991.She was so nice.Tonya was like Chris Bowman in some ways, lazy, not trained enough but had pure raw talent, thats rare.I met Chris Bowman years ago and he was so sweet.I hope he is in a better place now.Tonya has found happiness with her 3rd hubby and her baby is due soon.Don't forget Janet Lynn, just as great or greater when it came to artistic talent as well as her jumps.

  • Skating to Tone Loc? Really?

  • @btrater The second part was to ZZ Top.

  • Poster KRISTIRULESICE is the multiple-identity (huetboy27, hatula87, muffycat26, hairbrush81, aaprato3, aaprato4, aaprato5, etc.) YOUTUBE EMPLOYEE who acts as a troll and abuses her emoployee access by messing up the comments and accounts of people she disagrees with on the videos of her favorite figure skaters.

  • c'est beau de la voir rayonner sur sa prestation

  • she's a beautiful skater

  • In my opinion this is one of the BEST figure skating performances of all time....she should have got 6.0 across the board for technical merirt and no less than a 5.8 for artistic....just a shame she let all that talent go to waste....still think she was and is one of the best figure skaters of all time

  • I think the biggest irony is that Nancy wasn't even much of a threat to Tonya's talent/ability. She really didn't need to plot against Nancy, and if she focused on her own training instead, she would have been unbeatable.

  • I think most fans are still wondering why Tonya "never made it." Bad luck? Sad background that set her up for failure?

  • first of all she put a lot a weight after the 1990/1992 season and she'd never lost it and for sore her she background didn't help to reach a life balance... bad luck??? maybe

  • I guess you missed her on Oprah back in the spring. She is also on the Dumbest Crooks show on Tru TV.She lost a lot of the weight and looks fairly good.

  • I don't live in US... Oprah is not programmed i Italy...

  • There should have been more than at least two 6.0s.

  • Superb. This was probably the best skate of her life, together with Skate America 91 where she was equally fantastic. Had she kept this up, she could have won Olympics 92 as her ability, like Ito, was natural, not manufactured.

  • this is an Olympic-quality program.

  • Yes it was. She had so much talent, only to waste it all. What a shame.

  • it's awesome that tonya landed that triple axel and the take off was just weird cuz she was in a straight line instead of taking it from a circle. now that's power:)

i still prefer midori ito's triple axel any day, it's just way big and more powerful for some reason.

  • she's fun to watch!

  • Please don't insult Tonya by comparing her to Brittney Spears. Tonya looked out for herself, never had a breakdown and doesn't need someone else looking after her money. Brittney is a train wreck.

  • i totalee agree with you grizzlypompinto!!!!!!!

  • THE BEST EVER female skater!!!! Let's see the whiners do this program with no faults!!!!! Can't, can they?!!!!! Please post your perfection. I'm waiting. Same program, please. Then I'll believe you!!!

  • Please go away, Nancy Kerigan. Go back to your adulterous husband where you belong!!! And quit giving my comments a minus!!! If you don't like this great performance, get lost elsewhere!!!!

  • I way prefered Harding to Kerrigan. Kerrigan was so overrated! She never had a performance that even came close to this or some of Harding's other best performances.

  • I agree, Kerrigan taught me to cringe and wait for her program to fall apart on the ice, as it so often did. Kerrigan got attention largely due to her looks. Holy cow, Tonya had a much larger vocabulary and was more articulate in interviews, too!

  • let's see kerrigan do this same program! Even with her adulterous husband, can't do, can she? Prove it, Nancy! How does it feel to steel someone's husband, Nancy? Tonya never stooped that LOW!!!!

  • i taught her hubby was divorced when they hook up

  • @grizzlypompinto Nancy's lowlife brother had a rap sheet a mile long. The media in Boston kept it all quiet. All hell broke loose a year ago when he " killed "his Dad.He will go on trial later this year.

  • This is THE BEST skate EVER by a female!!!! Tone Loc just adds to the excitement. Watch the audience. They LOVE it!!!! NO better female skater before or after. This is IT!!!!

  • Still the best ever!!! Such a shame that she's been punished for something her ex-husband did.

  • Tonya touched me.

  • SPECTACULAR!~!!! however i cannot forgive the bizarre music cuts. On Golden Pond switching suddenly into Tone-Loc Wild Thing. Just * SO * Wrong.

  • thank you...Tone Loc...things that make ya go hmmmm

  • Sad that her life has so far amounted to little, yes. Of course, has amounted to little other than being a history-making, record-breaking athlete.

We should all have such *sad* track records.

Sad too that small minded people think that growing up poor and disadvantaged makes one a born loser, when instead it takes that much more ability, drive, and determination to succeed when you don't have the advantages--and when bigots like those here look down on you from the outset because of it

  • What a beautiful performance by Tonya. Watching it, I was so sad that Tonya ended up the way she did--this routine showed what a wonderful skater she really was. Sad, sad, sad. And I agree with the others---water always seeks its own level--in both Tonya and Britney Spears. You can take the gal out of the trailer, but you can never quite take that upbringing of the gal. You know what I mean!!

  • Please don't compare the hard working and talented Tonya to the white trash with money and UNTALENTED Britney Spears. Trash begets trash. Look at little sister!!!!

  • Britney Spears is untalented, it's true--but I only meant to point out that people can be as talented as they come but they are still WHO they are down underneath---class always shows. I wish Tonya the best--she was amazing!!

  • You are SO RIGHT!! Sorry, I just admire Tonya SO MUCH!!!! And she's had it so hard. Please forgive my unrelenting devotion!!!!

  • she's actually from vancouver, wa.

but we are proud of her here in ptown as

well. did you see that triple?

sucks that she let fools guide her back

then, she coulda been a contender!

  • It is a shame that Tonya Harding couldn't believe in herself more...she would have seen that she was quite capable of anything any of the other skaters could do plus so much more with her own natural talent/abilities. This performance shows that with practice and determination, you can pull off an amazing performance. Tonya Harding could have been a great inspiration to so many people if she had just practiced more and remained honest. This is such sad ending to a strange story.

  • You'd think there was another person in the commentators booth with how high Uncle Dicks voice becomes when he says "Oh, isn't that great" . . . but only somebody who was in their prime in the 40s and 50s could have said it that way.

  • Tonya was a bit like Britney Spears. No matter how talented she was always going to be trailer trash. Well Britney wasn't talented like Tonya but you know what i mean. Just a year later she was already starting to slide and never reached this pinnacle ever again.

  • I was telling my mom the same thing with Britney. She's the new Tonya Harding. But tonya definately had some phenominal abilities.

  • OMG you are everywhere I go. LOL I loved this performance of Tonya's.

  • The only difference is that Tonya was a fighter and Britney is a bimbo.

  • lol funny!

  • Wild Thing by Tone Loc? Who picks her music? Great program otherwise

  • By far her cleanest best performance ever. Doesn't get much better. The only thing misssing would have been her quad loop. I saw her land a clean one in practice back in 1990.

  • wow..she actually did a quad loop?!?!?!?!? I've never heard of this!

  • At her peak she was landing quad loops in practice and did one for a Texaco commercial.

  • Anyone else want to vomit when Dick Button says "wonderful stretched legs"?

  • Me.

  • LMAO ME TOO!!!

  • LOL!! I know!! He just got a bit too excited with that Triple Axel. And so did the judges! 5.9s for presentation? Let's be real here . . .

  • "Anyone else want to vomit when Dick Button says "wonderful stretched legs"?"

Right. He should have said, "excellent flexibility," or something like that. But try to understand his position. Imagine you were told that your job is to talk and talk and talk. Even if you have nothing of interest to say, just keep talking. Eventually, you'll say something stupid. It's inevitable.

  • @kenp3L Right. And one thing that Dick Button knows how to do is to keep on talking! I don't think anyone had to tell him to blab, frankly. :-D

  • Her plot against Nancy Kerrigan was a tragic bit of stupidity. I saw the 1994 championships, and Tonya and Nancy were miles ahead of anyone else at the time. (It was the year Michelle Kwan debuted as a skinny, awkward kid, and she was third.) One of them was going to get the championship, and both of them would have gone to the Olympics. By participating in that plot, Tonya guaranteed that she would never be allowed to cash in on her skating skills.

  • Well Tonya and her gang were not exactly brain surgeons. She didn't really acoomplish anything by having Nancy taken out of the Nationals. Like you said Tonya was almost guaranteed a spot at the Olympics. Maybe she just wanted another national title really bad and knew she couldn't beat Nancy in a fair competion. She couldn't have been so deluded that she thought if Kerrigan was out of the way she'd win gold at Lillehammer. Tonya had no shot at a medal let alone gold in Lillehammer anyways.

  • Well exactly right on all you said.

    1. She was pretty much a lock to make the team with 2 spots anyway, it was her and Kerrigan barring a meltdown by her.

    2. She may have just wanted a last U.S title really badly, and there was no way she was going to beat a focused in-form Kerrigan that year.

    3. She was not a medal contender for Olympics anyway. Baiul, Kerrigan, Chen, Sato, Bonaly, Chouinard were the contenders. Sato and Chouinard had much bigger mistakes in the Olympic SP and beat her.

  • I love her skating so much!

  • I agree. She was amazing. ._.

  • a great talent at the time ,to bad the judges were short sighted

  • Good heavens I miss this girl. I wish she could skate again. What a brilliant athlete!

  • That triple axel was fantastic!

  • just amazing! my all time favourite skater!

  • This program was insane! I can't imagine her perspective before, during, and after this program. I think that it is very interesting that Midori Ito and Tonya both had lack-luster lives after climbing the ranks in the 80's, revloutionzing the sport in the early 90's and by mid 90's resulted to eating disorders (ito) and conspiracies (Harding)...

  • Maybe it's a problem of peaking early: nowhere to go but down.

  • All that talent lost as trailer trash and a stupid mick jagoff boyfriend with a big dick. Really stupid person. Both should still be in prison. What a waste of a gifted woman.

  • Her triple lutz is EXACTLy like Liz Manley's (see 1988 Olympic lp)

  • I actually really liked her music selections for the Skate America performance, especially the great chord as she sets of for the triple axel. And she does very well with the sultry saxophone music. Anyone have her and Kristi's programs from worlds? I'd love to know how Kristi managed to beat this.

  • Tonya did not skate as well at Worlds. She did the triple axel at Worlds also, but the triple-

triple she nailed her she turned into one big ugly popped open one-and-a-half toe two footed. Then near the end she doubled a triple salchow.

  • if that weree the case I might still put her first. I'd have to see the programs though

  • I would have put her first there too actually. I was just pointing out that it wasnt as perfect and outstanding as here, so she gave the judges an excuse to not put her 1st. You know in close decision between her and Kristi the judges always went with Kristi. 1989 U.S Nationals short and long, 1990 U.S Nationals short, 1991 U.S Nationals short, 1991 Worlds short and long, etc...

  • I used to think her Skate America LP was her best performance, but then I saw this...absolutely PERFECT. =)

  • 7 triples for 1991, including a triple axel and 3-3 combination! AMAZING......even for today. However, would someone care to explain the relationship between her 3 different cuts of music??????

  • well, there really isn't any relationship between her music cuts. Several of her programs did that. I still love to watch these older clips of her though...just amazing!

  • I think that was a trend in the early 90's... random music selections and horrible choreography with big poofy hair.

  • Such a wonderful moment, I hope she treasures it as much as we all do! Skatng was such a fool to ban her. She should have been forgiven and brought back into the fold, this is clearly one of American figure skating's GOLDEN moments.

  • Yeah, an awesome performance.
