People here complaining about Tekken make me laugh.
There just is so much more in Tekken than there is in, say, Street Fighter. The timing is incredibly unforgiving, the combo strings are long and often very hard to execute. There are no projectiles and no lame uppercuts or Super/Ultra comeback meters for scrubs to abuse.
Its all about the raw skill and timing, ability to counter, good juggling and parrying your opponent effectively.
Tekken, for me, is one of the last true fighting games

Aris uses Dragunov and Armor King, both mid tier characters, and is considered one of the west's best. one of the UK's best, Starscream, uses Hwoarang, who's considered ass-tier.

I've always hated that you can never have benefited doubt to defend from ground. I would expect much from this characters to evolve to something kind of like check kicks or punches or parry in ground to prevent a continuous juggles anyway not a exciting final. PS I know they have roll escapes.
I think skill in Tekken is your defense not your offense. Anyone can be offensive but only the good players can block, parry and reverse moves thrown at them.
dodging/blocking/parrying/reversing/countering in this game is pretty freaking hard, most of the moves come out so damn fast, and you have like no warning, the only way to deal with that is just knowing EVERYONE'S moveset and what all of the attacks look like before they really come out

@pilchtastic American Tekken players have always been split between pad and stick players. Also, Japanese Sticks, typically used for street fighter, aren't as good as Korean sticks are for tekken.

how is street fighter better? each player has about 5-10 moves and 1-2 unblockable combos... xiaoyu has over 150 moves and maybe 10 juggles. After a counter or opening, you can juggle In both games when you find an opening. In both games the player is disabled. To say otherwise is ignorant and you haven't tried both. SF4 is the most LINEAR fighting game ive ever played, worse than killer instinct 64.
@b0niK1337 Having more juggles, and more moves, does not automatically increase strategic depth of a game. I'm not going to lie and say I'm a tekken expert, but the whole game looks like footsies. And nothing else. Everyone looks like they play at similar ranges, and have similar strategic goals. The whole game feels homogenous and gets old fast because of it. SF4 at least has different playstyles.
@Pandaman64 So you saying that u can make more combinations of numbers with the numbers 1-10 than I can with numbers 1-150? More options = more depth. You don't understand the ranges/fakes because as you said, you don't really play tekken. For example, in SF4 you can do 3 things on the ground, get up and block/ get up and try 2 uppercut on 1st frame or throw counter. In tekken, you can -roll left- roll right- roll back- roll foreward - rising low or high, leaping jump, short kick or just stand.
@b0niK1337 that makes for more options, sure, but where? All at the same range. I get the fakes and doublefakes, and that's all well and good, but it all just kind of washes together. Rock paper scissors doesn't become a deeper game because you added 5 more hand signs you can throw.
Again, everyone looks too similar in playstyle, and feels like they have really similar goals. Tekken feels like a 3D version of SF3.
@Pandaman64 Range is hard to percieve like a noob to sf4. Like @ 2:06 miguel tries to do a launch trap (sf4 uppercut trap equivilent). So only if bob did an attack he would be caught. Most of these players style was to deny the opponent of pulling off any time consuming move, baiting the opening and chipping away safely. Both players were playing safe probably because of the prize money.

@Drrailaa A video game tournament for MONEY. When money gets involves, salt reraches critical levels. Guy that won in the vid recieved over 5K for winning. Loser got ~1500. He lost out on $3500 for that loss.

how is street fighter better? each player has about 5-10 moves and 1-2 unblockable combos... xiaoyu has over 150 moves and maybe 10 juggles. After a counter or opening, you can juggle In both games when you find an opening. In both games the player is disabled. To say otherwise is ignorant and you haven't tried both. SF4 is the most LINEAR fighting game ive ever played, worse than killer instinct 64.

@b0niK1337 Having more juggles, and more moves, does not automatically increase strategic depth of a game. I'm not going to lie and say I'm a tekken expert, but the whole game looks like footsies. And nothing else. Everyone looks like they play at similar ranges, and have similar strategic goals. The whole game feels homogenous and gets old fast because of it. SF4 at least has different playstyles.

@Pandaman64 So you saying that u can make more combinations of numbers with the numbers 1-10 than I can with numbers 1-150? More options = more depth. You don't understand the ranges/fakes because as you said, you don't really play tekken. For example, in SF4 you can do 3 things on the ground, get up and block/ get up and try 2 uppercut on 1st frame or throw counter. In tekken, you can -roll left- roll right- roll back- roll foreward - rising low or high, leaping jump, short kick or just stand.

@b0niK1337 that makes for more options, sure, but where? All at the same range. I get the fakes and doublefakes, and that's all well and good, but it all just kind of washes together. Rock paper scissors doesn't become a deeper game because you added 5 more hand signs you can throw.
Again, everyone looks too similar in playstyle, and feels like they have really similar goals. Tekken feels like a 3D version of SF3.

@Pandaman64 Range is hard to percieve like a noob to sf4. Like @ 2:06 miguel tries to do a launch trap (sf4 uppercut trap equivilent). So only if bob did an attack he would be caught. Most of these players style was to deny the opponent of pulling off any time consuming move, baiting the opening and chipping away safely. Both players were playing safe probably because of the prize money.

@b0niK1337 I know why they were playing safe, and I don't down that (safe play is usually good play). And traps are something I understand (every good fighter has them, lol), but that's nothing to do with what I'm talking about.
For example, that range miguel was stutter stepping at, what characters would that stutterstep range be a bad place to be? I don't think there are any, because everyone fights at really similar ranges. Feel free to correct me, because I'd like to be wrong.

Again, if miguel is at that range to stutterstep, is there ANY character in the game he doesn't want to do that with? Any char that has a signifigant advantage at that range against him? I'm pretty sure there isn't, which makes for a homogenous experience. the matchups are too similar to eachother.

Tekken tournaments are always ruined and look weak by the end cause all you see is Alisa or Bob in the end. Its about the cheap tactics to win instead of skill. Its fucked up and they should ban characters. I mean for fuck sake noone grabbed even though they both turtled. I woulda destroyed these two.
