huge fan huge fan came across them on triple j in oz i think there just the most kick arse rocknroll band in the world.in oz not getin commercial airplay but if you go into a record store thers 5 albums ther luv to know how well there known in the states.just my favourite band
They are a Brooklyn band because that's where they all met up and started playing. Craig does sing a lot about living in Minneapolis (and I've seen a lot of Minnesota Twins baseball caps at Hold Steady shows) but like cubbies said, they all live and record in Brooklyn now so that's why they are introduced as such.
P.S. If you haven't heard the new album yet, it's awesome and it comes out on May 4th. And if you haven't seen them live, you really should, it's a fucking rock'n'roll party.
Craig and Tad are the only guys in the band who lived in Minneapolis (Lifter Puller, now that's a Minneapolis band) But yeah Craig talks about Minneapolis alot, but he also sings about his times in Chicago, Florida and Ohio too. They live and record predominately in Brooklyn. Hence "Brooklyn band".
Now that you have read what I wrote, forget it because its all semantics anyways. Best American band since the Replacements broke up!!!!!
they are not a brooklyn band. their a minneapolis band. listen to their lyrics. they say barely anything about new york, they have tons of refrences to minneapolis and saint paul.
On two occasions now, Letterman has introduced them as a Brooklyn band. I have to think that the band had something to do with those intros. But we know they're mostly a Minneapolis band!
Yes, the Springsteen influence is glaring and giddy-inducing to me...I'm hooked on The Hold Steady and I just saw Bruce & the E Street Band in Boston. The Globe reviewer wrote that "Don't the Bust Stop on 82nd Street?" (which Bruce played by sign request!!) - "if you listen carefully, you can hear The Hold Steady being born." AGREE 100%!!!
I was told to listen to this band before I finished bashing them. I listened. And my attack on the band was justified. Boring. Pointless. And horrible cloths.
right on this is post 90s garbage a few years to late fellas. plus the guy trys to sound like he can write a song lol. i only like the song about tampa after that fuck these old ass guys
epiphone blues custom 30? yeah i noticed too but they most likely probably customised the entire amp with top notch tubes and speakers they might of even ripped out the printed circuit board and even put in a hand wired point to point one...
Saw these guys on British TV last night (Jules Holland). Absolutely fucking brilliant, one of the best bands I've seen in a long, long time (and I've seen a few!) I'm now a big fan and if they do a tour in the UK, I'll be there. I might even buy the CD for god's sake (and that IS an accolade from this 10 year mp3 bandit!)
Just like the 'Mats! And they do have some of that vibe. Which is to say, they are growing on me - and fast! God, how I've missed no b.s., unironic rock n' roll!
Rock 'n roll is alive and well. These guys are incredible, and just getting better.

Did they bleep out the "sucking off" line or did he just not say it? Damn censorship.
