That's pretty irrelevant since "Eastern" Catholics are just like all other Roman Catholics in that they support the ridiculous heresy of Papal infallibility.
Roman/Eastern/Byzantine Catholic... it doesn't matter, none are part of the Orthodox Church of Jesus Christ.
Too bad the pope/Rome won't swallow his pride and admit he isn't the ultimate authority of the Church. If he did then there would be unity between Rome and the rest of the Orthodox Church. But he refuses, so division remains.
Orthodoxy is not divided by ethnicity, but rather enhanced by diversity. Any Orthodox Christian can receive communion in any Orthodox parish in the world... be it Russian, Serbian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Greek, Cypriot, Kenyan, Syrian, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Australian, Aleutian, Canadian, American, Mexican, Brazilian etc. At the Chalice we are one.
The Roman Papacy is united under a monarchy of earthly power, for the pope insists on claiming to be above and beyond political authority... even to the point of being able to appoint/depose kings and emperors.
For a bishop to claim not only supreme universal jurisdiction over the Church, but supreme temporal/secular power, is far removed from the collegial tradition of the early Church. The Fathers of the Seven Ecumenical Councils would find such an episcopal role inconceivable. Christ Himself said: "My kingdom is not of this world."
And yes, the Orthodox Church has many Patriarchs, because we already have one Head: Jesus Christ our Lord, Son of God the Father, Who is eternally glorified together with the Holy Spirit, now and unto ages of ages. Amen
"CATHOLICITY will indeed be ours if we follow Universality, Antiquity, and Consent... We shall follow Consent, if in antiquity we follow the definitions and opinions held by ALL or nearly all the ancient Bishops and Doctors."
When viewed in light of this famous Vincentian Canon of Universality, Antiquity, and Consent... Papal infallibility falls flat on its face. It is the Universal COUNCIL of bishops that is the ultimate authority of the Church. The Body of Christ is not led by Papal Monarchy but rather Collegial Tradition.
And yet, 500 years later (1073 A.D.) Pope Gregory VII issued these official statements:
"The Roman pontiff alone is rightly to be called 'universal'... He himself may be judged by no one... None shall be considered 'Catholic' who are not in conformity with the Roman church... The Roman church has never erred, nor ever shall err to all eternity."
Ironically, Rome had just "erred" in the very first sentence.
These claims of the pope are what separated and continually separate Rome from the Orthodox Church.
Orthodox Christians pray that Rome will one day humble herself, repent of her errors, and be received back into communion with the One Holy Orthodox, Apostolic, and Truly Catholic Church of Jesus Christ.
Well, I am afraid I have an objection to this animation. It seems to make a false destinction between the people who are the body of Christ, the clergy who serve them and the saints, those who have achieved deification.
"The Orthodox Church is evangelical, but not Protestant. It is orthodox, but not Jewish. It is catholic, but not Roman. It isn't non-denominational - it is pre-denominational. It has believed, taught, preserved, defended and died for the Faith of the Apostles since the Day of Pentecost 2000 years ago." Anon. .
perhaps you are ignorant, but just as orthodox use icons so does the devil and you are using Freemason iconography here, the building of a triangle, ie egyptian, and the top completed in the work of the masons ie eye, which in this image is jesus which makes the image of christ a perversion
Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. (Proverbs 16:18) Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted. (Luke 14:9) Conceit, that subtle arrow of the devil, secretly wounds the heart, and its seed is subtly planted; so that, little by little, it grows into a Pharisee. (St. Macarius of Optina)
You are obviously quite mad. Do not quote that which you do not understand. Any person who says they are Orthodox as did Arius yet supports evil ie freemasons is not Orthodox. Orthodox stands for upholding right doxology or worship as did Athanasius, not to vainly stand by and watch pagans destroy the church.
just because the video has the building triangle does it mean its evil?
Can we conclude then that all triangles are evil?
Thats insane!
Even though you say that, whats important is not the symbols we use but the reverence we have for the God, we worship, which is Christ. Symbolism and whatnot, they dont matter!
Ow? sidhaguru, do you hate the freemasonry? Imnot a freemason but ive always been suspicious about that organization. i have nothing against it, but I just feel theres something notright in there.
An "eye" isn't in the top of the triangle... it is an icon of the Holy Trinity. Below that is an icon of the Theotokos (Mother of God), below that are icons of saints, below that are pictures of bishops and priests, and at the bottom are pictures of the faithful at Orthodox Liturgies. And of course, the audio is a recording of part of the Liturgy.
Nothing freemason here, just the beauty of the Orthodox Church of Jesus Christ.
I am brother of 'sidha guru' and am orthodox and doing a PhD in Patristic/Cappadocian Theology. This is totally pagan and not orthodox. The triangle was put into Orthodoxy by Evagrius and Origen and both were excomunicated. Freemason symbols were incorporated into Orthodoxy in late 1800's but excluded after freemasonry was rejected in the 1930's in synods in Athos and Athens. Freemasonry is and a quote a "serious abomination."
There are unfortunately much freemason symbology in Orthodoxy, even in Athos, and many freemasons, all of which are condemned by orthodoxy.I have served under a bishop in UK and know of at least 4 Arcgbishops that are freemasons and it is thought the ecumenical patriarch is one. All this evil in the Church was prophesied by Seraphim of Sarov.
Without humility, there is nothing in a man but darkness alone.
(St. Seraphim of Sarov)
The man who cries out against evil men
but does not pray for them
will never know the grace of God.
(St. Silouan of Mount Athos)
He who busies himself with the sins of others, or judges his brother on suspicion, has not yet even begun to repent or to examine himself so as to discover his own sins.
You are not an Orthodox Christian. I know my Church and what it believes, and after browsing through your YouTube profile page I can tell you that virtually everything there is in direct contradiction to Orthodox teaching.
You call yourself a saint? St. Seraphim of Sarov (who you seem so eager to quote) referred to himself as "the wretched one."
"The truly righteous always think within themselves that they are unworthy of God. We recognize that they are truly righteous because they acknowledge themselves to be wretched and unworthy of God's concern."
Please don't come here acting like you are something you're not... you're just confusing everybody, including yourself.
If you believe that random chaos produced the miraculous structure of creation, then no amount of logic, facts, or knowledge of any kind is going to open your eyes.
Belief comes before enlightenment.
† May God bless you and lead you into His glorious Light.
Are you at all familiar with Orthodox Christianity?
It is a completely different reality than either Roman Catholicism or Protestantism.
The "Eastern" Orthodox Church is the original historic Body of Christ that has existed in continuous and unchanging succession for 2,000 years. As Christians, we know that Christ Himself is the Truth... and He has revealed Himself unto us.
Orthodoxy is different from "normal Christianity" because:
It is the one original Church that all other schismatic groups (Roman Catholics and Protestants) broke away from.
Yes, virtually all Christians believe Christ to be the Son of God. However, the way this Truth is manifested in Orthodox Christians' everyday life is a completely different reality than anything the West is familiar with.
If you really want to see the difference, go attend an Orthodox Liturgy.
Um, Im usually debating with protestants, its because they tell me that the Celebration of the Holy Eucharist is a "tradition' set up by the MEN of the founders of the original church..
I always tell them that Christ himself instituted this Holy Sacrament,
But as i have been undergoing cathecism in the internet, i have come to know more about Orthodoxy, and I would certainly LOVE to go to a Celebration of the Liturgy, unfortunately, there are none here in the philippines...
Praise God for revealing to your understanding that the Eucharist is the Mysteries of Mysteries... being the very Body and Blood of Jesus Christ... Who is One of the Holy Trinity: God: the Uncreated Creator entering into created mankind... making His abode within them.
Its sad that the Orthodox population of the our country numbering 9000+ cant even hold the Divine Liturgy in a Church but in the space of the slums.. Whats worse is that thereonly in the Capital, whilewe here in the not so important cities are left behind in evangelization. Please encourage more to come preach to our country.
I wonder why somany of my countrymen, fell for a preacher named "MANALO" who preached that he was an Angel from the heavens come to bring the truth. His followers claim to be worshipping Christ, but it seems to be that there worshipping MANALo and not Him.
They call themselves Iglesia ni Kristo, or Church of Christ. Its a shame there stronger in number than the Orthodox.
Praise the Lord that you are so eager to be received into His Church. So many in the world (especially in the U.S.) have Orthodoxy right in front of them, but they don't care... they just want to ridicule it.
God knows your heart... keep trusting in His timing for all things.
The Divine Liturgy is always celebrated every Sunday.
There are also various times when it is celebrated on weekdays.
Also, churches or monasteries often have a special Liturgy for their patron saint on the saint's day of commemoration.
It is very likely that every single day the Divine Liturgy is being celebrated somewhere in the world... and most definitely every Sunday and major feast day.
If ever orthodoxy will come and take root in our country, will the Divine Liturgy be celebrated in our language or is it in the language of those who preached to us?
Orthodox missionaries always try to learn the native language of the people they are going to witness to (they also try to have literature available in that language).
So yes, as soon as possible the services will all be in the native tongue of the Philippine people.
Brother, stay in prayer... asking our Lord Jesus Christ for guidance... and asking our most blessed and glorious Lady Theotokos to intercede for you.
Also, pray to St. Cornelius who (in the book of Acts) was a righteous man who longed for the Truth/Christ... and God finally sent Peter to go preach to him.
Ask St. Cornelius to give you the strength, courage and patience to persevere until you reach your goal: to be received into the Orthodox Church of Jesus Christ.
I believe you are a member, kindly tell me your username there so I can communicate to you more effectively than having to keep on making comments here. Ive just register, and Ive kept posting already, Ive learned alot from the other posts...
Yeah right SHFUTS, and what created universe than?? Was it you maybe?? What is the reason you doubt the existence of omni potent being? Science can't explain everything..By the way, I'm dealing with science myself,i am a physicist, but i know what are its boundaries..
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, liturgy after the tradition of men liturgy, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. col 2:8 ok i admit i stuck that word in there but christians should defend the faith not the traditions of men. we should preach Christ not ... well you know
The Divine Liturgy is the action of the Church assembled by God in order to be together in one community to worship, to pray, to sing, to hear God's Word, to be instructed in God's commandments, to offer itself with thanksgiving in Christ to God the Father, and to have the living experience of God's eternal kingdom through communion with the same Christ Who is present in his people by the Holy Spirit.
That having been said... Evangelicals are Protestants. Protestants have no direct connection to the original historic apostolic Church of Jesus Christ. Their only connection is through Roman Catholicism (which they obviously reject).
Rome broke away from the original Church around the year 1,000 A.D. when Rome tried to assert their bishop (the Pope) was the ultimate single authority over the Church. The vast majority of the Church rejected this ridiculous idea. All bishops have always shared equal authority... there is no one "head" other than the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.
When Rome broke away in 1054 A.D., it formed a virtual wall between Europe and the rest of Christendom. Most all of the western world has been ignorant of the truth of the Church's origins.
Praise God that Orthodoxy is one of the fastest growing "denominations" of Christianity in America! It is actually experiencing great revival throughout the world because many tyrannical governments which have persecuted the Church for generations are finally coming to an end (Russia is a prime example).
All Orthodox believe that which has always been believed:
In the words of Saint Vincent of Lerins (who reposed in the 5th century):
"We hold that faith which has been believed everywhere, always, by all... This rule we shall observe if we follow universality, antiquity, and consent."
Thekingof pop, please excuse my reaction. However, by using such a language you seem to have missed an essential message of Christianity. I wish you all the best, B.
Nothing that we do, nothing, faith, love, works, alms giving, none of that means a thing without humility and with that in mind, we are undestroyable.
Anyone who wants to know about original Christianity, not what you see on televangelists, you can PM me. I will try to explain as best I can. I'm not theologian but i will help if i can.
however, even though I completely agree with you, perhaps our witness to the world will be stronger if we show them how to love everyone... even those who persecute us.
I appreciate your enthusiasm to point out that Western culture's version of Christianity is very distorted.
Its true that many people just assume that Roman Catholics and Protestants are the only "Christians" in the world. Nobody seems to realize that Christianity is technically an EASTERN religion (i.e. Middle EAST)
When you tell someone that you are an Orthodox Christian... they often look at you and say:
I see a lot of people showing up here to try to get a pot shot at Christianity. bunch of freshman philisophy majors here thinking they've figured the universe out.
First off no one is making you watch the video.
Second, don't confuse what you have been raised to know about "christianity" as actual Christianity. The Christianity where you probably live is no more then 200 or so years old with little or no theological correction to the True Christian Doctrine.
you know i could think of many thinjgs to say but of all of them i wish to get this point across stop spam everyone comment boards it's really annoying and needs to stop. i get enough christian going to church and reading the bible i dont needs this shhoved down my throat when i'm tring to relax.
exclusive religions like yours are the reason we have wars. christianity is a joke because it gets so damn picky and specific about its doctrine. it doesn't matter how many nails jesus was nailed with, and it doesn't matter how many times you eat bread and drink wine each week. faith is all that matters.
to claim anything else, quite frankly, is just an organization attempting to manipulate you.
Show me where Orthodoxy has started a war. Until you can do that shut your ignorant mouth. Wars happen because idiots like YOU make stupid assumptions.
"I did not break away from the early church. Neither did the people of 'my church'. Only the historical context of 'my church' did. You cannot hold us accountable for the actions of others."
True, but if you know that 'your church' separated from the original Church... and you don't return... then you have purposefully stayed outside the Church... and therefore you are accountable for that.
This isn't a contest to see whom has the most ties to the early church. This is about being Christ like, as the literal translation of "Christianity" goes.
In modern times, Protestants like to try and sweep their disagreements under the rug... pretending they don't exist. They all say: "Well, at least we all agree on step one."
The problem with this is: no one ever gets anywhere... they never take the next step beyond the essentials because they don't want to step on anyone's toes.
Protestants are inevitably linked to Roman Catholicism because RC is their heritage... without RC, Protestants have zero concrete connection to the original Church.
Rome left the Church 1,000 years ago... then 500 years later the Reformation happened. Today, there are over 30,000 denominations of Protestantism that all use the same Bible to "prove" 30,000 different meanings.
The Orthodox Church has direct historical connection all the way back to the Apostles. The Roman Catholic Church can also trace their origins back that far... however, they broke away from the True Church 1,000 years ago (because they insisted the Pope should rule the Church).
People make up the church. Seeing that we are not the same people you cannot hold us accountable to the actions of others. Even the early church lied in division. Division by city, yet it is clearly recognized that though they were seperated all were the church. They were the "one body". It is cultish to state that only one denomination is the true denomination.
I completely agree with you that Christianity is much, much more then text. However you provided only historical context to my question. I did not break away from the early church. Neither did the people of "my church". Only the historical context of "my church" did.
I for one love this, especially the animation. If one looks at the orientation of the pictures and the diagram itself, one notices - with a correct understanding of Orthodoxy liturgics - the Holy intricacy and "Ultimate Reality" that the Divine Liturgy reveals. A great, and mystical, acquaintance with Orthodox worship!
listen i dont need you to teach me about some othordox crap i am crhisten but listen the nuclear age is over so we don't need to worry about it god dosent hate ous if he did he would kill ous anytime he wants but god loves ous jeuse loves ous too we are in the clear so every one calm down the world wont end and if it does it will be in the next milloin years we all will be angles looking down at earth
Remember, however. Christ said that at the end of the age, none would be spared if he did not "shorten" events. There is catastrophe in our future, which will be able to wipe out all mankind, except that Christ have mercy. Will it be nuclear? I know not.
Truth does need us to agree with it. A wise man will follow it and a foolish will ignore and denounce it. Jesus said, I am the way and the truth the alpha and omega the beginning and the end the law is fulfilled in me. If they not doubt in their heart they will be saved. Most of the apostels were killed for this truth and tortured to denounce it. Peter was crucified backwards and still he did not denounce. God bless, all.
okay i respect that voice4. hey, to all the people, there's no point in arguing about faith. you're entitled to your own and no one is right or wrong because there is no measure or standard that is set to prove one from the other. It's faith, either you have it or you don't. YOU ARE ONLY AS RIGHT AS YOU SAY YOU ARE!
Millions of Orthodox Christians were tortured and killed for refusing to deny Christ or accept another religion as true. There is no other religion that views Christ as the unique one-and-only Son of God. I know this to be true, and will not accept any other belief. To do so would be a betrayal to the One Who saved me from death itself.
As an Orthodox Christian, I respect everyone (or at least try to). However, I cannot give my approval of their beliefs unless they are in line with the Living Tradition and Living Word of the Orthodox Church of Jesus Christ.
Being a Christian involves not just belief, but action that manifests that belief. You don't just believe in love, you SHOW love... otherwise your belief is dead.
God is merciful... everyone is accountable for what they've been given.
much love and respect! I'm an atheist but i was brought up by my family with Christian values. My parents are both very devoted Christians and so are my siblings. how ironic! hehe but honestly, it's true. My point is respect each other's faith. I know how it is to feel like your faith is the only right one, I was once a believer. As long as it works for you and aims for the common good of all then it's fine, we all believe in something, let's just leave it at that. Let's not be close-minded.
Yes, sadly, the Roman Catholic approach to everything is "excessively analytical."
From an Orthodox perspective, as time goes on, it becomes more and more obvious that Roman Catholicism is falling farther and farther away from the original Truth...
and it becomes clearer and clearer that it is ONLY the Orthodox Church that has kept alive the essence of Ancient Christianity.
Please understand I mean no offense by these remarks.
As you have stated, I mean to produce no strife by my writings.
But wouldn't you conclude that the essence of Christianity lies in the words of Jesus and the epistles? If this is true I would believe you to consider the Othodox Church to be a manifesation of such words. So what excludes any other Christian church from keeping alive the essence of Christianity?
Think logically, (and I am Catholic, so I am not asserting Orthodoxy here...maybe just Eastern Christianity in general). If there is a Church which manifests the Words of Christ fully, then any Church which does so must look like that Church. Since no other Church manifests identically to the one, it can be concluded that it does not perfectly manifest Christianity.
As a Catholic, I worry that our approach to theology (especially that of the Trinity) is excessively analytical. It is a Mystery, and I appreciate the Orthodox Church's caution about venturing much beyond the 7 great Christological/Trinitarian councils.
Hmmm, well I was going to comment from purely an animation pov and say how basic and shit this vid looked but... I had a read of the comments. voice4orthodox, you sound very christian. From my experience they seem to think 'believe what I say or you will be damned to hell for eternity' I don't agree with this at all. All this 'lord have mercy' stuff that get's spouted...there is no such thing as god.
you don't know crap it's not believe in me or be damned all you have to do is to believe that Jesus son of God was our lord and savior and go to heaven
So if I believed in jesus and his bag of magic tricks and decided to go out and kill 50 children and 50 puppies I would go to heaven, whereas a person who lived a good life, gave to the needy, loved their family, didn't drink, smoke or curse etc wouldn't. Does that sound right? I don't know what you mean by saying that I don't know crap, I have heard people say that if you don't believe you will burn in hell.
If you understood that Christianity is a free ticket to do as you would have, you are mistaken. Christians strive to do as Christ would have. No need to tell me how bad we are at it, but we are certainly right to try and do well
Sure you're right to believe whatever u want & be the best person you can be. What isn't right is saying that people who don't worship your god are bad/evil/damned. You don't have to be christian to be a good person and if god sent a good person to "hell" for not believing in him then he is indeed an asshole. Sorry if I misunderstood your "ALL YOU HAVE TO DO is to believe that Jesus son of God was our lord and savior and go to heaven." That certainly seemed like a free ticket to me
Oh yeah and I personally don't believe in heaven, hell or god but that doesn't mean I'm a horrible person that should burn for eternity etc etc. I certainly wouldn't kill 50 children and 50 puppies.
The majority of denominations believe that everyone is inherently selfish (sinful) and deserves to go to Hell. Faith in Jesus (Orthodoxy believes this is different to any old 'belief') is God's way of ensuring that He will be able to share Heaven with some people, whose sins are paid on the cross and so invisible in Heaven, where sin can't enter. True Christianity does not believe that Christians are better than others, just luckier.
Orthodox Christianity does NOT believe that everyone is inherently sinful. True, we are living in a fallen world and our human nature has fallen from Grace, but we are all still "inherently" made in the image of God.
The current state of the world and ourselves is NOT our original/natural state. For God created the world and "saw that it was good."
We are all inherently GOOD... but we've just turned our backs on the Truth and fallen into darkness.
Through His Incarnation, Crucifixion, and glorious Resurrection, Christ has redeemed human nature... indeed all the cosmos. We now have the opportunity to turn back to the Light and enter back into our original inherently good state of being.
If we are inherently good (deserving), how is it even possible for us to have chosen darkness, and to go to Hell. God is inherently good and for this reason never sins. Jesus said 'only God is good'. There are many definitions of 'good' and Genesis may have been translated from another one. E.g. pleasing is not the same as morally deserving. I agree with you though, we have the divine image within us and may choose to stop fighting it.
For example I may say that my food is good, and not mean that my food is morally deserving one way or another. Inanimate objects are not even moral agents, yet God said they were 'good'. He was pleased with the stars and the Earth, but that doesn't mean they were MORALLY good.
It's not worth arguing about IMO. Personally I think if we choose to do bad we prove ourselves to BE bad, by definition. But as even the existence of free will is beyond my understanding, I may be wrong and there are more important things to comprehend. Still, various interpretations are important to consider if we don't want people to reject the Church because of minor speculative teachings they disagree with.

The Nicene Creed (325 A.D.) says "I believe in One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church."
The Orthodox Church is not divided. All her members share the one common Chalice. Therefore She is indeed "One" and "Holy."
However, Rome's insistence on Papist supremacy undermines the very word "Catholic."

"Whoever calls himself, or desires to be called 'Universal Priest,' is in his elation the precursor of anit-Christ."
- Pope St. Gregory the Great (588 A.D.)

And yet, 500 years later (1073 A.D.) Pope Gregory VII issued these official statements:

Orthodox stands for upholding right doxology or worship as did Athanasius, not to vainly stand by and watch pagans destroy the church.

This video has NOTHING to do with freemasonary.
voice4orthodox 4 years ago
sidhagaru let me ask you..
just because the video has the building triangle does it mean its evil?
Can we conclude then that all triangles are evil?
Thats insane!
Even though you say that, whats important is not the symbols we use but the reverence we have for the God, we worship, which is Christ. Symbolism and whatnot, they dont matter!
God bless you.

sidhaguru 4 years ago
Um... I am very confused. What exactly looks "freemason" here?
voice4orthodox 4 years ago
eye in triangle is a freemason sex magik symbol,it means that all of satan power is active in that place.
sidhaguru 4 years ago
An "eye" isn't in the top of the triangle... it is an icon of the Holy Trinity. Below that is an icon of the Theotokos (Mother of God), below that are icons of saints, below that are pictures of bishops and priests, and at the bottom are pictures of the faithful at Orthodox Liturgies. And of course, the audio is a recording of part of the Liturgy.
Nothing freemason here, just the beauty of the Orthodox Church of Jesus Christ.
voice4orthodox 4 years ago
Truth to be told... Its because of the freemasons, the triangle is now a debated symbol...
Lord have mercy..
Iwanttoconvert 4 years ago
I am brother of 'sidha guru' and am orthodox and doing a PhD in Patristic/Cappadocian Theology. This is totally pagan and not orthodox. The triangle was put into Orthodoxy by Evagrius and Origen and both were excomunicated. Freemason symbols were incorporated into Orthodoxy in late 1800's but excluded after freemasonry was rejected in the 1930's in synods in Athos and Athens. Freemasonry is and a quote a "serious abomination."
sidhaguru 4 years ago
'Sidha guru'brother cont.
All this evil in the Church was prophesied by Seraphim of Sarov.
sidhaguru 4 years ago
Without humility, there is nothing in a man but darkness alone.
(St. Seraphim of Sarov)
The man who cries out against evil men
but does not pray for them
will never know the grace of God.
(St. Silouan of Mount Athos)
He who busies himself with the sins of others, or judges his brother on suspicion, has not yet even begun to repent or to examine himself so as to discover his own sins.
(St. Maximos the Confessor)

sidhaguru...

Consider the words of St. Isaac the Syrian:
"The truly righteous always think within themselves that they are unworthy of God. We recognize that they are truly righteous because they acknowledge themselves to be wretched and unworthy of God's concern."

God bless
voice4orthodox 4 years ago
o_O uhm yes how is that different from normal christianity is Christ not the son of god so do you belive in the exsistence of god?
SHFUTS 4 years ago

Is Divine Liturgy celebrated Everyday in Orthodox Churches Worldwide?
Iwanttoconvert 4 years ago
The Divine Liturgy is always celebrated every Sunday.
There are also various times when it is celebrated on weekdays.
Also, churches or monasteries often have a special Liturgy for their patron saint on the saint's day of commemoration.
It is very likely that every single day the Divine Liturgy is being celebrated somewhere in the world... and most definitely every Sunday and major feast day.
voice4orthodox 4 years ago
Tell me..
If ever orthodoxy will come and take root in our country, will the Divine Liturgy be celebrated in our language or is it in the language of those who preached to us?
Iwanttoconvert 4 years ago
This is one situation that shows the great difference between the Orthodox Church and Roman Catholicism.
In Orthodoxy, it has ALWAYS been top priority to have the services and scriptures in the native language of any given culture.
voice4orthodox 4 years ago
Orthodox missionaries always try to learn the native language of the people they are going to witness to (they also try to have literature available in that language).
So yes, as soon as possible the services will all be in the native tongue of the Philippine people.

The Divine Liturgy was written by St. James in 54 A.D.
voice4orthodox 4 years ago
The word "liturgy" means "common work" or "common action."
The Divine Liturgy is the common work of the Orthodox Church.
voice4orthodox 4 years ago
The Divine Liturgy is the action of the Church assembled by God in order to be together in one community to worship, to pray, to sing, to hear God's Word, to be instructed in God's commandments, to offer itself with thanksgiving in Christ to God the Father, and to have the living experience of God's eternal kingdom through communion with the same Christ Who is present in his people by the Holy Spirit.
So how exactly is this a mere "tradition of men"?

That having been said... Evangelicals are Protestants. Protestants have no direct connection to the original historic apostolic Church of Jesus Christ. Their only connection is through Roman Catholicism (which they obviously reject).
voice4orthodox 4 years ago
Rome broke away from the original Church around the year 1,000 A.D. when Rome tried to assert their bishop (the Pope) was the ultimate single authority over the Church. The vast majority of the Church rejected this ridiculous idea. All bishops have always shared equal authority... there is no one "head" other than the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.
voice4orthodox 4 years ago
When Rome broke away in 1054 A.D., it formed a virtual wall between Europe and the rest of Christendom. Most all of the western world has been ignorant of the truth of the Church's origins.

Wars happen because people are self-centered.
Christianity defines Truth because Truth itself is Jesus Christ. He came to end darkness... bringing us Himself: the True Light of the world.
No, it doesn't matter how many nails were on the cross...
Yes, it does matter what you consume, because if you never abstain from comfort food... your self-will becomes weak, and you easily fall into sin.
There are also times to celebrate the great wonders of the Lord with feasting and thanksgiving.
voice4orthodox 4 years ago
exclusive religions like yours are the reason we have wars. christianity is a joke because it gets so damn picky and specific about its doctrine. it doesn't matter how many nails jesus was nailed with, and it doesn't matter how many times you eat bread and drink wine each week. faith is all that matters.
to claim anything else, quite frankly, is just an organization attempting to manipulate you.

TakielWestman... you say:

Christ is the Head. The Church is His Body.
The Head and the Body are inseparable.
To be truly Christ-like, you must be part of His ONE Body... otherwise you are
"on the outside looking in."

TakielWestman... you say:
"I did not break away from the early church. Neither did the people of 'my church'. Only the historical context of 'my church' did. You cannot hold us accountable for the actions of others."
True, but if you know that 'your church' separated from the original Church... and you don't return... then you have purposefully stayed outside the Church... and therefore you are accountable for that.
voice4orthodox 4 years ago
This isn't a contest to see whom has the most ties to the early church. This is about being Christ like, as the literal translation of "Christianity" goes.
TakielWestman 4 years ago
There is only one Church of Jesus Christ...
it is One and Undivided.
In it, there is found neither falsehood nor division.
There is only one "denomination" that fully fits that description:
The Orthodox Church of Jesus Christ our Lord
Orthodox Christians pray for all Protestants and Roman Catholics to come back HOME to the true Faith.
voice4orthodox 4 years ago
In modern times, Protestants like to try and sweep their disagreements under the rug... pretending they don't exist. They all say: "Well, at least we all agree on step one."
The problem with this is: no one ever gets anywhere... they never take the next step beyond the essentials because they don't want to step on anyone's toes.
voice4orthodox 4 years ago
Protestants are inevitably linked to Roman Catholicism because RC is their heritage... without RC, Protestants have zero concrete connection to the original Church.
Rome left the Church 1,000 years ago... then 500 years later the Reformation happened. Today, there are over 30,000 denominations of Protestantism that all use the same Bible to "prove" 30,000 different meanings.
voice4orthodox 4 years ago
Jesus said the gates of hades will never prevail over the Church. He promised that falsehood will never overcome His Body.
When Rome tried to introduce falsehood, they cut themselves off from the Church. But the Church continued... and still continues to this day.
The world knows it by the title:
"Eastern Orthodox Christianity."
voice4orthodox 4 years ago
The Orthodox Church has direct historical connection all the way back to the Apostles. The Roman Catholic Church can also trace their origins back that far... however, they broke away from the True Church 1,000 years ago (because they insisted the Pope should rule the Church).
voice4orthodox 4 years ago
People make up the church. Seeing that we are not the same people you cannot hold us accountable to the actions of others. Even the early church lied in division. Division by city, yet it is clearly recognized that though they were seperated all were the church. They were the "one body". It is cultish to state that only one denomination is the true denomination.
TakielWestman 4 years ago
TakielWestman,
Christianity is more than just words... it is more than a book with black and white text. Christianity is manifested on earth by the Body of Christ.
The Body of Christ is ONE and UNDIVIDED.
Paul says: "There is ONE Lord, ONE Faith..."
"We are ONE Body..."
voice4orthodox 4 years ago
I completely agree with you that Christianity is much, much more then text. However you provided only historical context to my question. I did not break away from the early church. Neither did the people of "my church". Only the historical context of "my church" did.

Jerry, greetings in the Lord.
Please understand I mean no offense by these remarks.
voice4orthodox 4 years ago
As you have stated, I mean to produce no strife by my writings.
But wouldn't you conclude that the essence of Christianity lies in the words of Jesus and the epistles? If this is true I would believe you to consider the Othodox Church to be a manifesation of such words. So what excludes any other Christian church from keeping alive the essence of Christianity?
TakielWestman 4 years ago
Think logically, (and I am Catholic, so I am not asserting Orthodoxy here...maybe just Eastern Christianity in general). If there is a Church which manifests the Words of Christ fully, then any Church which does so must look like that Church. Since no other Church manifests identically to the one, it can be concluded that it does not perfectly manifest Christianity.

Sure you're right to believe whatever u want & be the best person you can be. What isn't right is saying that people who don't worship your god are bad/evil/damned. You are confusing protestantism with Orthodoxy. To do that would be like confusing Norse mythology with Islam. They are THAT different.

REH88...

We are all inherently/originally moral/good.
Adam and Eve chose to LEAVE their inherently/originally moral/good state of being.
Adam and Eve chose to disobey (thus becoming immoral).
Our morality PRECEDED our immorality.
We are called to RETURN to the Light.
Through Adam we fell into shame...
through Christ we Rise in glory.

It is true that Adam and Eve were not perfect... because they chose to sin. However, they were originally called to walk the Path to perfection.
Through Christ, the Way Truth and Life, we can now resume this process of perfection:
purification, illumination, and deification.
"Be perfect therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."
(Matthew 5:48)

I highly recommend you read this book:
"Man and the Environment - A Study of St Symeon the New Theologian" by Anestis G. Keselopoulos
This author simply connects several different writings from St Symeon that all deal with man and the rest of the cosmos.
Much of it discusses the pre-fallen/original state of mankind.
God bless

It's not worth arguing about IMO. Personally I think if we choose to do bad we prove ourselves to BE bad, by definition. But as even the existence of free will is beyond my understanding, I may be wrong and there are more important things to comprehend. Still, various interpretations are important to consider if we don't want people to reject the Church because of minor speculative teachings they disagree with.

Mankind is inherently good, but chose to fall.
Through Christ we can RETURN to our Path to perfection.
This is basic Orthodox theology.
"Various interpretations" implies conflict and disunity.
Just look at Protestantism.
The Orthodox Church is ONE... fully united in the Truth.
Christ came to unite, not to scatter.
