I was walking around at work today, singing the melody of giant steps... then I went home after a night of jazz at my favorite coffee shop, went home and I found this. I am absolutely enthralled. Your ear and your voice are incredible.
Also, sounds great, I love the first 2 choruses. You have a nice voice... It seems all of my friends at my high school that play saxophone are in chorus or like to sing... Maybe it's just a coincidence, but I don't know :P
@12GageAirsoft I checked out your channel and I am guessing you are a 13 year old who is into guns and probably doesn't listen to much jazz and therefore doesn't really understand anything in this video or its comments. In this video I'm singing along with a progression of music chords from Giant Steps, a song written by an African-American saxophone player, John Coltrane (one of the most influential jazz artists ever). See next post:
@12GageAirsoft These chords were revolutionary, changed the way jazz artists thought about music composition and jazz, and moved jazz into a whole new intellectual dimension. They are hard to improvise over and even harder to do while singing (which is why the chord progression in my video is so slow). Now you are educated and I suggest educating yourself about stuff you don't understand before you post comments.
@Schnoogles after reading your prior post (after looking at YOUR channel) I noticed that you probably dropped out of or never went to school (therefore it is you who has been undereducated) and all you do all day, assuming someone like you has not life, is sit around and tell yourself you can sing when all i hear when i see this video is obnoxious droning.
@12GageAirsoft actually if you had really looked at my channel you would have seen where it clearly states that I have a degree in jazz performance. That means that I finished high school and went on to complete a four year university degree including music history, advanced jazz improvisation, performance, music education, music theory and ear training, composition etc and being awarded multiple scholarships. I can send you a picture of me holding my degree, if you like.
@12GageAirsoft Say it to my face, asshole. Like her, I am also a jazz musician, pursuing a Jazz Performance/Music Education degree. You should check out this song, along with the whole album, and all of the other things Coltrane did, along with some other people like Dexter Gordon, Art Blakey, Freddie Hubbard, Herbie... The list goes on. Then come back here. Maybe the genius of the aforementioned guys will make you think before you say stupid stuff.
@musicmanson i see know that you are not only saying girls you dont know, or never will meet are pretty but you are also arranging a sit down with me, another person online, saying virtually that somehow i can say something to your face? that expression is meaningless. go get a life you wierd, strange idiotic, and quite scary person, and you have low standards if you think this, uh. . . "girl" is pretty.
@12GageAirsoft don't be rude. Anyone reading these comments can clearly see that I haven't written anything rude, mean or offensive but everything you say has been negative and directly aimed at someone else. Grow up.
@12GageAirsoft Dude, you have no taste in music...that's my opinion though. I'm not going to force anyone else to agree. Now, stop imposing your opinions on other people.
@12GageAirsoft What the hell is wrong with you ? If you don't like it then don't listen and don't post about things you obvious;y have no clue. Giant steps is one on the most difficult chord progressions to improvise over, even for many current well trained jazz musicians. While I can understand your distaste for it due to your untrained music appreciation and your untrained ears, please spare the rest of us your meaningless critique. She nailed every chord change, can you do that ? Just STFU !
oh my....more people need to see this. I know you are a sax player and all, but that doesn't take away from the fact that is very hard to SING the changes. AWESOME JOB!!! (whistle show off :)
I was like "DAMN!!! SHE'S SINGING THE CHANGES!!!!" Then I clicked on your profile and saw that you are a saxophone player. But you have a nice voice. Haha. Nice job.
@Schnoogles You're very welcome. It's always nice to see someone who isn't bad on the ears or the eyes. (Don't let any jealous boyfriends see this comment :p)
