  • Wow. I did'nt kno they cut out stuff from this film

  • Hmmm I heard the director intended to make a horror movie without the horror

  • the wicker man was unintentially hilarious

  • I have seen three different cuts of the original Wicker Man, all with a very different feel to them. The first one I saw when it came out made the Pagans rather sympathetic and portrayed the Edward Woodward character as a really nasty piece of work, so the feeling at the end was sort of 'well, he kind of deserved it.'

Several years ago I rented the film again from Netflix and, with about 10-15 minutes edited out, it had almost the opposite effect. It was almot an entirely different movie.

  • well...he could always just play as saruman?

  • Every word he says such as recut and re-edit is imbued with so much richness. Christopher Lee is a legend plain and simple.

  • @Kaagh178 maybe your just and idiot XD

  • @MightyMusic101 Maybe you just don't know talent. Or how to spell. I've never been called 'and' idiot before. XD

  • @Kaagh178 LMAO

  • lord summerisle, do you think we can be made fools of indefinitely?

  • The Wickerman represents your strawman which is your person, corporation or human and is is completely seperate from you who is either a man or a woman.

  • I'd pay big, big money to have Sir Cristopher narrate documentaries about horror movies and books

  • oh god i remember that film, i found it too horrible to watch, need to try again some time lol

  • may he live to 160

  • @jimbobhk2009 That man may very well do so.

  • @jimbobhk2009 are u mad? may he live to 1000 years old

  • @halloweenfriday ok now you're getting ahead of yourself.

  • @jimbobhk2009 oops..my bad :/

  • @halloweenfriday lol maybe he will, ya never know ;)

  • Sup, we made a song about this great film, please listen :D

  • Troublesome people were burnt in the W

    ickerman, traditionally.

  • @bezerkerbitch73 Who is this strange little man?

  • @bezerkerbitch73 Nope. In the old days, people where sacrificed in great sacrificial bonfires usually in the shape of a man or a cage, a practice by the ancient druids wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy before Christ and the Bible! :) Historical religion is so much interesting when the Bible wasn't there! :')

  • @666BrotherofMetal Actually there was no real historical proof that actually happened the whole burning of sacrifices in a giant Wicker man was something the Romans had said the ancient Celts used to do, but again outside of those writings there is no real proof that the Celts/the Celtic religious sect The Druids actually did that.

  • Fucking trolls hit the Wicker Man ending video. They should be burnt.

  • @RedSoxForObama I just watched the movie.... I HATE RELIGION!! I HATE GOD!!! I HATE ALL THE GODS!! I HATE ALL THE BELIEVERS!!! Fuck you christians, fuck you muslims, fuck you all who acts and lives in the name of god! FUCK GOD!!! I want to burn alive every man and woman who says there is god! Because look! The man was burned in the name of god! There are wars between religions! so many deaths in the name of god!!

  • I can't wait for the Wicker Tree.

  • The Wicker Man was without doubt British Cinema at it's very best; Christopher Lee's performance was flawless and at best for him to defend this fine film from the half-wit critics that didn't understand it's true genius, shows the true mettle and heart of such a talented Man!...Like a fine wine, The Wicker Man simply gets even better with age!!!! Edward Woodward R.I.P

  • "they are talking about remaking it in America with Nic Cage (laughter)". Yeah, that wasn't a joke

  • @barsoff Nickholas cage = ARSEHOLE, leave classic films alone you Hollywood CUNTS!!!!

  • Nice put down by Christopher Lee, actually. I am fed up with ignorant journalists (or audience members) asking dumb questions.

  • A true gem of British cinema. Incredible actor and an incredible man. He was even an Intel officer in the Long Range Desert Group which was a fore runner to the SAS. Been married to the same lady for 50 years and even met Tolkien. A different breed of actor mos def.

  • Michael Deeley must've had a premonition about the remake...

  • What the hell is he talking about? It's like he's playing himself on Extras.

  • @AdamfMc Don't know what you mean, mate - he hasn't said anything that isn't true! :-)

  • It is a very interesting film because, Christopher Lee's career in hammer horror notwithstanding, it endorses Christianity and civic virtue. Paganism is represented here as evil, the policeman as the righteous Christian wrongfully murdered by a community hypnotised

  • @sherlockhaimes

Not sure I agree with that. Is Howie the hero, or an intolerant prig whose closed-mindedness seals his fate?

  • @sherlockhaimes Yeah, that's not what I got from it. Through the whole movie, I was rooting for the Pagans. Everyone is so nice to Howie, but he's such an asshole to them. They show him every hospitality, which he repays by insulting everything about them to their faces.

  • That remake was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. What's the point in remaking something that's already perfect anyway?

  • @oneinfinity Yea no point in remaking classics.

  • I pray for Christopher Lee that he might be saved through Jesus Christ.. I pray that he would repent of all his witchcraft,Satanism, AKA THE WICKER MAN 1 and 2. I pray he see that though he has power from satan in the end he will perish. FOR GOD SO LOVED CHRISTOPHER LEE THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGGOTEN SON THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVE IN HIM SHALL NOT PERISH BUT HAVE ETERNAL LIFE

  • @wreaksatansday Get fucked you Bible shitting dipshit.

  • @wreaksatansday Eternal life spent in the company of idiots like you would be far worse than what hell has to offer.

  • @wreaksatansday You are a horribly confused person

  • @wreaksatansday

Ha ha, I love jokes like that!

  • @wreaksatansday Are you aware that even though he plays a pagan in the FILM wickerman, that doesn't mean he himself practices witchcraft? It's fantasy.

  • @wreaksatansday people like you make me want to go out and dance around a maypole. Please stay in america and never leave!

  • hes a darling

  • His voice ! *___*

  • the original wicker man was the thinking man's horror film.

    the remake was utter tripe.

  • I wouldn't call it a horror film either i would personally call it shit. It's the most boring thing i have ever watched and the ending is comical. It's always the same with these so called "classics" they get all hyped up then banned for a while then upon release they turn out to be shit. A few rare exceptions would be The Exorcist, The Evil Dead and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I am a massive movie fan and i watch on average at least one film i haven't seen everyday.

  • @MrNecropink which is why you probablydon't understand most of them.

  • @sstuddert I understand the film i just found it rather boring and tame as do a lot of other people. But hey just my personal opinion though i do consider myself open minded when it comes to movies.

  • @MrNecropink

Being this self-crowned cinephile that you are. Im surprised you can call this film boring when it has more implicit substance than both The Evil Dead and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (of which i love both). This film was never claimed to be a directorial masterpiece or classic. However a 'cult' classic is very different, which im sure you know, being that you watch a new film everyday. In fact this film itself has themes that are important today. Very important.

  • @MrNecropink It's because you came in expecting something else. It's technically fantastic. Brilliantly well, written. It has atmosphere, a fantastic soundtrack, great acting. You just don't understand any of it, and I pity you. The films you list make it obvious you expected it to be some terrifying horror movie. Which it is not.

  • @MrNecropink

the texas chainsaw massacre? oh yeah, cos senseless killing really makes a good movie...

  • "It was a brilliant film. A brilliant film. But I don't know how much you know about the the film? Do you know much of the history of the film?"

After asking that, I'm pretty sure the stare he gave after that burnt the skin off anyone's face that was in the way.

  • Whats the thing at the back?

  • Ten times better? Wow. I've always thought The Wicker Man was unmatched in terms of paranoia, claustrophobia and -- the ending is one of the best ever. Sheer psychological terror without a single drop of gore or image of explicit carnage. It's really perfect. I can't imagine what a restored version would be like.

  • As wonderful as Mr. Lee was in this film, Edward Woodward's performance was totally absorbing - a very underrated gem of acting.

  • God i love this guy's voice.

  • @mark1800 This man is going to be waayyyyy cooler than you in anything he does.

    Wooden actor? Hardly.

  • Oh boy the original was great but the remake was awful. Thank heavens Hollywood finally seems to be starting to produce long awaited sequels instead of remakes like Predators, a Dark Crystal sequel, and supposedly a sequel to this with Lee reprising his role. About time. As talented as Ellen Burnstyn is she's no Lord Summerisle. Why'd they even make the character a woman anyway? If it made sense in that's fine if they were original, but they seriously made the dumbest changes imaginable in this.

  • Christopher Lee absolutely dominated this film.

  • I've always loved The Wickerman. It is such a classic.

  • I have NOTHING against Ellen Burnstyn and blame the material of the remake more than her but not even she could save that crap remake of this film. Lee was superb in the original and his presence reflects his work in those early Hammer films. I hate it whene my country tries to remake films so much particularly foreign films. Just burn all the copies of that remake in a Wicker Man as well.

  • That's Alexander Saxton - he dabbles in fossils and bones

  • This guy seems just a tad pompous

  • @mark1800 you do know who christopher lee is?

  • @silvershields does that have any bearing on one's pomposity? seems a little coincidental that in all the films ever made, he happened to be in what he considers "one of the best". uhhh... heard of humility?

  • @mark1800 Shut up man, that movie didn't just have him in it. He'd crush you with but a WORD! A WOOOOOORD!

  • @mark1800

I have to agree with you. A pompous fella, and a wooden actor. But Im still a fan of his.

  • @BlackenedForLife hes hammy but still very watchable. gives you that glare- and it works!

  • This film will never truly receive the respect it deserves, but that is part of the reason I love it so much. The few of us who found this movie on our own, LOVE the fact we found it on our own. The new owners of the studio that produced this film released it with hardly any publicity. Then, to remove any doubts about their idiocy, they released it on a double bill with Roegs Don't Look Now. The new owners were able to not realize they had TWO great films at the same time.

  • Fantastic voice!

  • Christopher Lee seems to have a very high opinion of himself

  • @lizclegg ...and rightly so!!

  • @lizclegg Yeh he deserves to have a high opinion of himself he is a amazing actor played in loads of great hammer horror films and was the definitive dracula.

  • 10 greatest films ever!! Wicker Man is the film of films!!

  • this is mad, really really interesting what Mr Lee is saying there about the missing footage, maybe someday!!

  • Such a genius

  • A great film with very powerful themes, they should have never have remade it, then again America should have never have gone to War in "Vietnam" but they did.

  • Amen.

  • Agreed. A seminal piece of cinema that should have been left untouched forever. I never saw it as a horror film, I wouldnt even describe it as a thriller. Its one of those rare films that for me escape definition. Hollywood took it, tore it to shreds and created a bastard psycho horror/thriller child that does not, nor ever could, come near to its parent.

  • @richieblackhearted I agree totally with you there, people need to totally boycott hash remakes, and just keep an eye out for the odd great film Hollywood manages to dish out once every few years.

  • Oh, how I love the movie...

  • I swear I've got a special edition DVD that contains both the Theatrical Version and a Director's Cut with about 20 minutes of footage that was cut out, including more scenes with Lord Summerisle, and also scenes with Sergeant Howie before he leaves for the islands. It's out of print but still available from sellers on Amazon Marketplace UK

  • I have to look at me collectors edition, if it is on the bonus disc!!!

  • Yep, it's definitely on there.

  • Actually, I'm looking at my Director's Cut DVD now, and the Extended Version with the restored "lost" footage actually has a commentary that includes Christopher Lee himself... so, either he knows this is out there and just forgot about it, or he's talking about other footage that has still not been re-instated.

  • @luscaslayer He didn't forget it - this interview is from 2002 and the "director's cut" dvd came out four years later.

  • is the directors cut better, is it worth upgrading?

  • The extended version was included as an extra on the second DVD of the 2-Disc set and contains about 15 minutes of extra footage. The new (re-inserted) scenes do not have the same picture quality as the rest of the film, so you can see where the new scenes join the existing ones. It kind of looks like the extended scenes came from an old VHS or 16mm print of the film. The scenes ARE interesting though, and give a bit more insight into Woodward's character specifically.

  • @obscurityandbeyond Yep, I have that too - i've got the 3 disc collector's edition, which contains the theatrical version, the director's cut and the soundtrack. Amazon has some.

  • The original was haunting.......

Always great fun to hear Christopher Lee talk. :-D I sure wish we could see the expanded version of the original he was talking about...

  • This movie w/ cage was put on the shelf and should have stayed there.

  • every time i see this noble and respectable man and actor , comes through my mind all the fantastic movies i have seen and the good moments i enjoyed and i still do , every day i like more and more his films, ....

  • While Sir Christopher is speaking about the "possiblity" of a re-make, he gives specific and signficant insight as to "what" really happens while making a film... "I still believe it's out there - in cans..", he's speaking of the bits of film that was cut out by the editors and "tossed"... In essence, preventing anyone from re-cutting, re-editing and therefore "re-releasing" the film in a better format or way!

  • uno de los mas grandes actores de todos los tiempos grande lee

  • Christoper Lee tells it like it is. The recent film was a joke. The original is hauntingly well done.

  • I read the book that the Wicker Man was based on called "Ritual."

  • Living legend

  • Icon love him x

  • The sacrifice had to be a virgin.....obviously if the Cage character has a kid with one of the priestesses, he's not a virgin. The sacrifice had to be king for a day.....the Cage character was treated like ass throughout the film, so that's out. The last qualifier was that he had to be a fool....well, OK, Cage is always a fool, and no exception in the remake.

  • The remake missed several integral points, besides obviously bashing on the Dianic Wiccans. The sacrifice of the cop was not done as some weird man-hating thing. It was supposed to be a sacrifice of absolute necessity (as stated by Lord Summerisle earlier in the film).

  • I'd love a voice like that!! He's right about it being brilliant. Whoever wrote that shit with Nicholas Cage should be burnt in a Wicker Man!!!

  • @JackDaniels267 almost a good idea,,poor execution..

  • @JackDaniels267 hahaha so true dude; spot on.

  • @JackDaniels267 Great comment kinsman!

  • I actually met this great actor on a trip to Lithuania to watch Scotland play. Everyone was singing on the plane (robert burns songs etc) and the stewardess told us to be quiet. A man stood up and said she should be quiet because he thought 220 people singing burns was wonderful. That man was the legendary Sir Christopher Lee.

  • Brilliant Voice. He played Mr. Jinnah in the movie "Jinnah" who had a very similar voice.

  • I think he was on about the original being great, due to the fact he was talking about watching it 30 years ago....

  • i believe you are the ass. if you read this was filmed in 2002, four years before the remake was released.

  • More films, over 200, than any living actor and Lee cited "TWM" as THE film of his 50 year career. Organic Old Religion v Organised New Rot - Pure Pagan v Corrupt Cop = No Contest

  • One of the best actors, EVER. Wicker Man one of the best films EVER. Nothing like this will ever be created again.

  • man that voice makes all other men sound like school girls

  • Yeah it's also British ;)

  • he is now "sir christopher lee" finally

  • Richley deserved and long overdue. I was so pleased to see Christopher get this award. Brilliant man and a wonderful career.

    ATVmidlands UK

  • da Christopher Lee is einfach cool, genau wie da Peter Cushing!!! Beide SUPER!!!

  • Christopher Lee is simply legendary, and The Wicker Man is one of the most remarkable British films ever.

Apparently since the budget was so low he agreed to play Lord Summerisle for free, thats how much he loved the script. Surprised he didn't mention that here.

    Regards

  • god bless this man

  • Interesting to know he was the only person on the lord of the rings cast to have actually met JRR Tolkien. Yes he is that old (-:

  • christopher lee = awesome

  • I agree...It is a brilliant film...

  • Mr Lee is wondeful.

  • Definitely one of the underrated actors of all time -and quite possibly THE most underrated one. He certainly deserves a lot more credit than he has received. Fortunately he has quite a lot of fans nowadays.

  • Gfeat film, great actor...too bad about the Nick Cage remake.

  • One of my favorite actors ever along with Brando,Mitchum,Nicholson and Price. I dont think he gets the credit he deserves.

  • I love how you can hear people in the audience laughing when Lee mentions the American remake.

Quite rightly. Their instincts told them, long before it was made, that the remake would be a piece a crap.

When they say "we have to remake the film for "today's audiences," they are not paying today's audiences a compliment...

  • I agree. The reason Hollywood are making remakes of all of these classics (other than the fact that they have ran out of ideas) is because they want the audience to connect with the actors rather than the characters. I'm surprised they didn't offer George Clooney a part in the remake. Still, at least Christopher Lee will be in the sequel.

  • Christopher Lee is totaly better than Marlon Brando was

  • What a great movie Wickerman is but only the 1973 one is worth watching, I think 2006 is a rushed and different story totally.Need a good remake with good actors. Nicholas Cage is so overated.

  • It's funny that he states that all the people involved in the film including himself don't consider it a horror film, and he even cites it's cinefantastique article when in the article itself the film is repeatedly referred to as horror by both shaffer and hardy, the screenwriter and director. Great movie and great acting by Lee but here he comes off as very arrogant and is just wrong.

  • Original is excellent.

    Remake was absolutely dire.

  • I've only seen the US version and didn't even know that it was a remake. I disliked that US movie....it made no sense to me at all.

So you guys think I should see the original? Is it really better? Cause I don't wanna waste my time again.

  • The Wicker Man is utterly fantastic - an absolute work of art. I'd urge anyone to watch it. I refuse to watch the remake - the general consensus seems to be that it's an ignorant desecration of the original.

  • You're wise not to, it's utter bollocks. The original is breathtaking.

  • Yes, it is one of those movies to see at least once. Just don't go in thinking it is a horror movie. It is more of a suspense film than anything else. One very good thing about the original is that it has aged very well!

  • The Wicker Man is the most important film ever made.

  • What a great film. I loved it! When I was watching it at first I wondered if this was a horror film because it music and the visuals were so beautiful. But yes, it is a horror movie and it gets very ugly at the end.

  • Even the 'director's cut' is disjointed with a lot of bits still missing (apparently they are probably buried under a highway somewhere in England (used for landfill).

    A great film though!

  • When he says, 'Oh, I see' what had the interviewer previously said?

  • After listening several times, I think he says "it's difficult to get a copy"...meaning it's hard to obtain the issue of Cinefantastique magazine that Lee refers to.

  • There are some scenes missing that were found because my dad found a copy that had the normal film with the deleted scenes intercut - and the deleted scenes were of a lower quality to the original film.

  • Wickerman the origional was one of the ten best films that I have ever seen...

I though some of those origional bits turned up by the side of a road in scotland...

  • The Wicker Man stands on its own despite the ridiculous US remake. I do wish those uncut scenes from the original could be located and reintegrated into the film. On Summerisle the Old Knowledge is still in use-Christianity is a "comparative religion".When Christopher Lee answers Edward Woodward's incredulous judgmental query about the girls jumping naked over the fire to become impregnated-with the retort "Jesus Christ was born of a virgin impregnated by a ghost". Its just classic.

  • your thinking of Christopher Lloyd.

  • He's the best speaker I've ever seen or heard and he's a genius on top of that, very honest.Watch his interview on the 'City Of The Dead'aka Horror Hotel' dvd where he talks about his life and career,it's great.

  • Wait a minute. This isn't the guy from Back to the Future!

  • Err... I think....... you're a douche...

  • I am latin american, and to me this movie is certainly Brilliant!!!, a pantagruellic feast, that´s the reason not everybody is invited to the table....

  • there shouldnt have been a remake in the first place as thers no need i mean it should have been a sequal if they were gonna do it anyway as remakes completly miss the point.

  • christopher lee is an absolute legend. the wicker man is a classic British movie.

    thanks - i enjoyed this

    atvmidlands

  • He is one of Maslow's 'self-actualised' human beings.

  • He is so well spoken and articulate, and such an interesting man to listen to, I could listen for days. The Wicker Man is the best movie in all movie history in my opinion, an intelligent movie.

  • Hello fans

  • abit too 'warm' for my liking...

  • <3<3

  • The original Wicker Man is one of my all time favorite films. I heard they are remaking Alice Sweet Alice and Suspiria too. Annoys me.

But I don't consider myself a film snob though, there is one good thing about the remake it has some hillarious bad actin my favorite form of comedy.

  • lol yeah

  • The remake should have been a spoof.

  • "The remake should have been a spoof. "

    THe remake WAS a spoof"

    Har Har

  • @RedSquirreI Yes, and a terrible one at that.

  • This is so true

  • Hi - This is Christopher Lee here - I neglected to tell you that Deeley didn't stand up when my wife entered the room.

I would like to put that on record. ( for the millionth time ).

  • yer m8 the new wicker man film with nick cage was a huge load of crap...but its the same with most great UK films...the US always turns them into a load of shite.

  • The remake was a pile of shit.
